Ok, built a new app phone switcher (flight mode on/off) based on the cell tower location.
System automatically switches the phone OFF based on the time you set when you are at predefined location (Say Home). When you are at home, say from 10:00 PM to morning 6:00 AM no one can call your mobile. But if you are not at home, then phone is ON even at night. This also saves your battery life and privacy too.
It is working on Hermes, and I have tested it on WM5 emulators. Will NOT work on WM2003.
Please check the link to the application under my signature.
I have a question, can it only change to "vibrate" instead of turning off the phone? That would be more appropriate for me. Thanks for your answer
Nice App! How about changing call forwarding (when busy, no answer, etc...) baased on location?
If the phone could forward all calls automatically, or forward when you press "hang up" based on location it would safe battery and reduce radiation using the phone.

Since the application do not keep polling for location, if it does not know the current location for some reason(reason = In the original post) then there might be problems such as wrongly 'forwarded' calls...
But its a great idea. I keep it in mind

Are you saying.. You were not at appointment time at sleeping location... And you came in late... and the phone does not turn off?
If so it is by design.. As i am not keep polling to find out the locaton. Just because then the application has to be running in the background or keep getting activated say for every 5 Minutes.
But let me know if you are saying the samething too.
not shutting off past sleep time
I think we're saying the same thing. Last night I installed the software set the home location and set the sleep time to 21:00 to 6:00. Actual time was 22:00. I expected it to shut down the radio and it did not.
Hi,
does not work for me
Install works fine, Test is OK, device went on Flight Mode and Back.
I set Sleep Location and Times and clicked Enable button.
When I want to save an error occurs lile: "InvalidCastException at Save. Please report this!"
The settings won't be saved then. I tried to manually edit the cnf file with
found cell values and True State, and saved this back to device, but when
time comes, nothing will happen.
I am on Schaps WM6 3.57a german and O2 Germany Provider.
What I was found out is, everytime I start the program it
randomly changes the location behind the dot.
Once it is xxxxx.8311 and the next time it is xxxxx.48311
May this be the culprit?
Any suggestions welcome bc I would really love this tool working

If you don't mind can you send me your cnf file?
Since your Location keep fluctuating... May be its failing to ON/Off
So when you are at home (Sleep Location) and if you keep refreshing the location (Button Refresh Location) you are getting diffent values?

Something similar, sort of
I use Teog's CallFilter instead. What I like about it is that I can set the filter to only allow calls through from specific people. This way if there's an emergency in the middle of the night I'll get the call. It doesn't work on a schedule, you have to run it when you want it and disable it when you don't. But it is a simple app that runs with just a click after it's configured and has worked over several different operating systems. Would work well for meetings, movies, etc. too.

Check PM
Olioaglio
Hi tytnguy,
thanks for fast PM. You were abolutely right with the idea of interfering date format. I customized my HTC Home with the SDTe Override string (by HTCustom Proggie) to display the week day, which turned out to be the culprit that your prog did display the error message at Save.
So I deleted this in registry and the app now saves without a glitch. So I set the time (1 minute in the future) again and saved. When the time comes, the turning wheel appears, but nothing happens. I figured out, that the Status page says: "Out of location so NOT switching off the phone", so this is maybe, why the program starts but do not turn to flight mode as suggested.
Since I set the home location and did not even move a meter from this position I cannot imagine, why it does display I am not in the sleep location?!?! Any ideas
Olioaglio
edit: It WORKED now for the first time !!!! Great!!
Just wondering, what happens when I just do the phone in another room in my flat, where maybe it is in another broadcast cell....
Think, it won't work then!! Is it possible to create, let's say, kind of a radius, where the program activates??
So my sleep or home location is maybe a bit more then just one room or even my desk
edit 2: May it work, if I set the SDTe string to override again, after saving correctly? Or will the app then stop working again? Sorry for those dumb questions though.
Thanks anyway!!! Great program!!

Would constant polling mode affect the battery drain significantly?
If yes, I would suggest a check box in your proggy to toggle this option on/off
Just my 2 cents

Olioaglio,
Can you set the home location from the other room?
If you change the date format to someother non standared format it will not work. Since program needs to keep saving the stuff on each try.
Update 1.0.1
Multiple location on the schedule: If you want to set more than one location as you 'Sleep Location' you can do it now. On the sleep location box bring the context menu up, and choose 'Append to location' now add the new location to the list. You can add any number of sleep locations!
Now if you were not at home at set time, system will keep polling based on the poll time you specify. So as soon as you reach home your phone will be switched off.
If you turned on your phone manually after the rk-Sleep set it to flight mode, then your phone remains on till next scheduled sleep session

Olioaglio,
No it should not make any significant affect on the battery.
I have programmed it to poll only on sleep time if you are not at home. But since I am not running the program in the background, it is ok.
The new update I release just keeping your problem in mind. So you go to both your rooms where you get different towers. Update both as your sleep location.

UPDATE:
OK, tested it now... Dude, the 1.0.1 really works like HELL!! I'm totally satisfied for now.
The Append function is very good thing, since I found 8 (!) different cell locations (about 3 with GSM and 4 with 3G) in my 3-room flat. They are always fluctuating even at the same place, so maybe this was the problem of the others, who tested the program with having only one location saved. But with the Append function AND the new Poll function (which also works great), it absolutely ROCKS!! Had no problem with several tests. Battery consumption with poll function really does NOT seem to be more than without poll.
Just some suggestions if you plan to make updated release. The Append function is not easy to find, I had to read your instructions three times to get it. Maybe you'll find another way. Also an extra tab with a list of all appended cells would be appreciated.
I would have another idea for an "extended" flight mode. Maybe you could add some checkboxes for Phone, Bluetooth, Wlan and Beam for - lets say - "Extended Flight Mode" options. So one could save even more battery as with just the phone function off. With the checkboxes you would have the choice what to turn off/on, when rk-Sleep will engage.
Best regards,
Olioaglio
tytnguy what about vibration mode? have you had time to check into that? Regards
Anyone here using it? what is this app for? is it worth buying? does it give u battery life? im really interested but i cant find no videos on it on youtube. please share your thoughts.
It is worth every penny. The best app for android IMO. It is not very easy to master it, but even the basic stuff has made a vast difference too the behavior of my phone.
For example, I have extended my battery life to 38 hours simply by having it automatically go into airplane mode between midnight and 6am.
It will turn off wifi, back screen brightness down, change screen timeout to 10 seconds and give me a notification popup and sound when my battery drops below 15%.
It will turn on gps when Wavesecure is activated, something Wavesecure can't do by itself.
It will turn my ringer off when I get within 200m of the two cinemas I go to.
It turns wifi on when I get home, and off when I leave. Same for work.
It loads my music app when I plug my headphones in.
Tasker can make widgets! I have one set up to (with one press from my home screen) turn up screen brightness, turn on gps, turn up speaker volume to max, wait 2 seconds, then launch google navigation. It will then turn everything back when I exit out of navigation.
It will, on weekdays, text my girlfriend at a certain part of my journey home after work. That way my dinner is ready when I get home!!!
I would say try out the free 1 week trial. There is even a wiki and web site with extensive instructions and examples uploaded by other users. You can also import profiles as well as create your own. The really handy ones I have exported to my sd card, and e-mailed them to a friend when he bought Tasker. Not sure I helped him though as there is a steep learning curve for this app, and it is worth being patient with it to learn its ways for yourself.
I think it is worth much much more than the asking price.

wow sounds sooo nice . i already bought full version yesterday but havnt even opened the app once . well i did open it once it seems hard to understand lol . so for all this task does the gps need to be on? or not? and can u turn off 3g?
You can turn off APN, but don't think that works well in the UK. Sorry, my knowledge of 3g is limited.
Basically, you can have tasker turn on and off nearly any feature of your phone that your want. There are two sides to tasker. The "Profile" and the "Task".
I have found it is best to first set up the "task". Say you want to save battery power at night. Select the task button and select "new". Call it "power save" or something. Select the + symbol and select "Net". In this menu, pick "Airplane mode" and select to ' on'. Then hit ok, then save.
Now to create the 'Profile' where you define the contexts that will activate the "power save" task you just created.
Select 'new' then select the 'time' context. Enter the time you would like to have your phone go into airplane mode. After hitting 'ok' it will take you to the profile page where you set up what now happens between the times you just specified. From the drop-down at the to of the page, select the "power save" task you created earlier. Hit 'ok'.
Done. Your Tasker will now shut off all your radios between the times you entered.

Worth every penny. I use it to:
- turn on GPS for programs that need it (turns back of when editing the program)
- turn notifications off when starting desk clock
- change volume when connecting head phones
There are endless possibilities, try it and then buy it.
i've bought it for little things but want it to be able to handle 3g data which it doesn't
i,e turn on wifi, if no conn after 10 secs, turn on 3g, auto sync for a min, then turn data off.
works fine and dandy with wifi, but not 3g.

Wow sounds like you have a good understanding and has some good stuff. I don't know if you can, but I posted a page where maybe people can leave profiles for those of us who are a bit more chronologically challenged.
This is the greatest
I use tasker for everything. I am very forgetful so I have it pop up astrid tasks when I leave the house or work. The quiet mode works well for work and there is even a way to auto check in to foursquare.
Worth every penny, it makes your phone 10 times better and is a must have app.
I have profiles that do the following:
-During work hours and within range of the office set Vibrate, turn off wi-fi.
-When within range of home turn on Wi-Fi
-If at home after certain time in evening go silent
-When leaving car (detected by bluetooth connection to stereo), store time and location. Have icon on desktop to retrieve info and show on map to find car.
-When on call (by checking diary) if a colleague calls always ring regardless of silent.
-Say caller/texter name
-Send magic packet to wifes phone to report location and show on map (handy when shopping)
Plus many other scripts....
I find that this program has a pretty high learning curve...
Is there a wiki I can read up or a way to import other people's profiles?

Using "Cell Near" instead of GPS
I was using Tasker to turn WIFI on and off based on GPS locations. However, I found an alternate method that does not use GPS calls (and waste battery use). Instead, I am now using "Cell Near" to find the cell tower near home and turn WIFI off when I am not within distance of it.
I have posting walkthroughs of all of the most useful profiles I have collected. Check it out at http://dbilliter.blogspot.com

Hope this helps!

Hi. Anyone here good at creating profiles?
I would like some help. If i want a profile that:
IF screen has been locked for 1 minute, i want WiFi to shut down.
And when i unlock the phone again, i want it to turn on.
But - i don't just want a "toggle wifi by hitting powerbutton"-function,
I only want this to apply if i had wifi on in the first place.
The reason i want this profile is:
If i forget to charge the phone at night, and have wifi going, i have 20% less battery when i wake up. Or if im at a friends house, connected to a wifi... well, same here. If it just lays in my pocket connected to X, i want it to shut down when screen is off. Saves alot of juice.

Well mine is working fine, no draining at all (wifi on 24h24 with this option checked and my phone drain only 1% every 5 or 6h if the screen is off). The thing is that it shut off the wifi only if no app needs it, so my bet is that those who have a battery drain just have some apps that don't let the phone going in deep sleep.

Not sure if I'm in the right place, new to smartphones. Got myself a Galaxy S2 and rooted it. Main point,
I'm using Tasker and I'm trying to have it set so that it's in Airplane Mode when I have an Alarm set so I get no calls/texts during my slumber.
So far, best thing I've done is the phone goes to Airplane Mode between 00:00 and 0600 everyday as well as when light levels are between 0 and 28 - not sure if the light levels are like, set too low.
So far I love Tasker but very little support online and Tasker Wiki doesn't really help. Trying my best with the trial and error method.

I found this cool app Tasker. It can do functions defined by you on meeting the circumstances you have defined. Like, I have a profile of enabling GPS on openining of maps and disabling afterwards.

I have automated mine to do the following
As soon as I enter my work car park, it drops the volumes, switches off WIFI
I leave my work car park, volume to max,
I enter home, WIFI on, Volume max
after 11pm - 6.30am everything on silent, wifi & data off
then when i scan my NFC tag in the car, switches on GPS, loads co pilot
re-scan tag, turns off GPS and closes co-pilot

Was thinking the same. Any partial/wakelock issues caused by the program constantly assessing the environment. As it happens I am thinking of using the program to reduce battery drain and shutting down WiFi when out of range of home networks but if it's negated by the situation above it seems pointless for my needs.
Any one care to comment?
I've been using Tasker for a couple of years accross 4 different devices now (X10i, DHD, TF101 and GS3). I have a lot of profiles set up to do various different things and I can honestly say I've never seen a noticeable effect on battery life.
That said though I don't use the GPS location state at all. I imagine that particular state would drain battery pretty quickly. I use the WiFi Near state a lot though and, as I've said, never really noticed a detrimental drain on the battery.
I suppose it depends on what you do with it but overall IMO it's a very well written app. Extremely useful too.

Waiting for app sale. The price is slightly higher than what I'm prepared to spend, especially because there is a free alternative from Microsoft called on{X}: http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/05/onx/

I've been using Tasker for a couple of years accross 4 different devices now (X10i, DHD, TF101 and GS3). I have a lot of profiles set up to do various different things and I can honestly say I've never seen a noticeable effect on battery life.

Yep! This is what I was hoping to use it for too. My betterbatterystats has identified my Wifi as the one real drain on what is still a very good battery life. So although I could turn it off myself I just know I will forget to turn it back on at home and would like a program to do it for me. BUT if one negates the other it's not worth the effort.

Well your WiFi has to be on to use the WiFi Near state. You could potentially combine it with a Time state too though. Just for example you could have Tasker turn WiFi on for 1 minute once an hour to check for your network(s) then either turn off again if no network detected or connect and remain on if a network is detected... if that makes any sense!
It would save battery compared to leaving WiFi on all the time.

What effect does it have on, I have a task to turn of Wi-Fi during 10am and 1pm; but I try to turn on Wi-Fi during this period. Will it automatically turn it off again, or allow me to continue to use Wi-Fi?

It will allow you to continue to use it. That sort of profile works as a toggle based on the time state so at 10am it will turn it off - but only at 10am. If you were to turn it on again straight away it would stay on until you either turn it off manually or another profile kicks in which is set to turn it off again. The same goes for anything else such as ringer/silent/vibrate, mobile data, GPS etc.
@Greedyfly: you're welcome

Tasker can do wonders...but it requires you to be some kind of Tasker-scientist to get things done. I recently discovered Llama as well. It's free and simple but capable.
Yeah Tasker does have a reasonably steep learning curve admittedly. By no means insurmountable to most though.
I suppose it depends on what/how you want to automate. Tasker is very powerful but not so simple. Llama is free and easier to use but no so powerful.
Both are good automation solutions. Locale is another one to check out.

I've been using Tasker for the best part of a year now, awesome piece of software. Negligible impact on battery life and it's astoundingly powerful. A few examples of profiles I currently use - detects headphones/bluetooth headset and reads any text and who sent it, useful when cycling or out on the bike. Disables screen lock when at home, I use the phone as a control for my media centre so it remains unlocked at home and turns the screen on as soon as the handset is picked up, controls a variety of connection states according to location and time.
These are just scratching the surface. On top of this I've had direct dealings with the dev on a couple of occasions, genuinely nice bloke who does his damndest to solve problems as quickly as possible. All in all, this and Titanium backup are by far the two most useful pieces of software I've bought:good:

Hi,
As I remember my STAMINA mode work good in .234 fw.. my Mobile Data connection was disable and resumed when screen on.
But after .244 update.. Stamina mode does not work as before, Apps get stopped when screen is offed, but Mobile data connection is still there.
I have no apps in white-list..
Im bit worried, cause i have enabled mobile data 24x7 in LTE mode, so disabling it when screen is off, will help me on battery..
But i done know whether its the way how Stamina mode works..
If someone can explain me.
Thank you

stamina mode is somethings to enable phone enter into deep sleep mode. But after u turn off the screen and lock, if there got any apps consuming the data in background, so phone cant enter deep sleep.
most probably is Auto-Sync, social messaging apps (Viber, Line, Whatsapp, WeChat, Tango and etc). these will enable the phone always keep awake and using the data.. Stamina mode will only works after screen off for a certain time, will enter into deep sleep. If any apps wake it up, then wont work anymore.
So if u want stamina mode works better, turned off Auto-Sync, Mobile data (if u have a lot of social messaging apps).
Hmm..

But i did a full repair, so all gone. but still its like that.. And no Auto sync as well
I'm same person as you. I'm turned on data, GPS, auto sync all the time.
Normally average I can get 3 hours screen on time with 12-15hours total.
Hope this can be your guide for battery usage life. I didn't active stamina mode due to I need receive email, msg at anytime. If phone lost still can track back.

I have never had much luck with stamina mode, or disabling background processes or whatever and, believe me, I have spent what feels like a total time of 5 weeks of my life on this, as for all of us, trying to get our super smartphones with awesome screens to last more than the waking hours of one day....
Here is a screen shot of my XZL from this morning. (82% battery remaining, 27 hrs of use on battery, screen on time 9% = approx 1.5 hrs in screen diag window I have Auto Sync enabled, and collect emails on regular basis.)
I am using DS Battery saver (pro version but there is a free one to try) and thro custom settings can allow checking for emails at whatever interval I like so, for example, i set DS to wake up (in background, of course) every 20 mins for 2 mins to allow whitelisted email app to check for mails or whatever intervals and apps I want....
SMS and MMS are always instant as are incoming calls (obviously again)
Have this on all my work phones, XZL, GS4, GS3, HTC one etc, and all are now easily able to do two days with what I would call normal usage (3-4 hours screen on per day) emails and calls and the rest all the time
@chuan Hong - why leave GPS on all the time, are you looking at maps all the time? Device locks so fast on GPS why not just turn it on when you need to know where you are or where the phone is? Certain apps will switch it on when signalled to do so remotely...

Thanx al try the app
Srsly man, stop using battery saver apps, that is Not at all required. In fact that app might be interfering with ur stamina mode...
Also, as another person above said that stamina mode requires deep sleep, this aint true(actually, that would defeat the whole purpose of stamina mode). As soon as u turn the screen off, the stamina mode kicks in.
Also, how do u know that stamina mode isnt working? Do u recieve whatsapp notifications after u turn the screen off??
U might wanna check ur stamina mode settings.

Sorry, but I am not stupid enough to run both at the same time! What the battery saver app offers over and above stamina mode is deep sleep so you have missed the point there. For me that is why it saves battery for my usage...
My remarks are intended to offer another possible direction for those who have not succeeded in achieving what they are looking for using stamina mode. For me that is the purpose of this place that we love, xda! Negative comments slagging off others people's posts when they are trying to be helpful are what is rapidly becoming the norm here, and that is very sad...
My remarks are also based on many hours of analysis and research and are, for my usage, bourne out by empirical results!

On a more conciliatory note, sorry if I ranted, you are correct when it comes to the Wi-Fi only tabs and battery usage is worse with an app than with stamina mode. Maybe related to continual switching/seeking of phones looking at 3g, h+, lte in the background which ds obviously removes....

Well friend u r an advanced sort of user... Unlike many others who just download things and complain that their phone isnt working properly... I previously thought that, and u might not believe but there r ppl who use stamina mode and battery saver apps simultaneously.
That's why I said so. I never meant to counter comment u in a negative way. Im sorry if u feel so. I just wanted to convey that battery saver apps r not good for our droids.

oh i turned on gps for all the time because of security.. i've been lost my phone before so cant track it back. now i purchase https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myboyfriendisageek.gotya&hl=en apps and installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
smart lockscreen to prevent people shut off our phone in lockscreen there. Useful. If im lost my phone, i can track the location and take the front photo. I can remote control my phone. So i have to turned on my data, GPS all the time.. dont want lost my expensive phone like that.
recommend u to install these 2 apps too. i know myxperia can track our phone too.. but GotYa! got much better features. MOST IMPORTANT, cant let people turned off our phone 1st. Once off, then can flash rom or anything. GONE.so smart lockscreen protector is important and installed gotya! to catch/track our phone

I think you are wrong. Stamina mode should always work the way that it disables mobile data when the screen is off, regardless of how many apps you have running in ackground. that is the whole point of stamina mode. Mine is also not working. I turned it on this morning at 5 am, and at 6 am the battery dropped 3% and i got a notification that i should turn on stamina mode to save battery. The screen was off for that one hour and the phone wasn't in use
