I have a question, suppose if i have to search some contact name on the xperia.
Suppose contact name is Jones...
Like in normal mobiles if you press J and then O, the contacts will show all then name starting with JO,
but in xperia if i press J and then O it start showing contacts first starting with J, and then later if i press O, it shows all the contacts which have O in them.
why is that so? i just want that i should be able to search the contacts as we do normally in other mobiles?
Any suggestion.

yaa am having the same problem some one pls help
Lets wait, and see if some senior member or xda xperts come up with some solution for this basic need.
I don't understand the problem at all. When I type J and later O the contacts app shows contacts starting with JO.
Or do you mean the scrollbar? That is in any case only a scrollbar.
Maybe i am not in explaining it properly, Let me do again
Suppose i have 20 contact start with the alphabetic chracter ' A'
Ali
Ahmed
Amir
Aly
Aliza
Adnan
Appz
.
.
.
.
.
and alot more starting with 'A'
Now if i have to search for the number for "Appz", in contacts i will press "A"
and the xperia will show all the contacts starting with "A", but to reach the contact "Appz" quickly, in other symbian mobiles if i will press "Ap" it will directly take me the contact Appz.
But what happen in xperia, if i press A, it will show me all the contacts with A, later if i press P, it will start showing the contacts starting with P, so its not easy to find the particular contact, especially if you have 20,30 contacts starting with the same alphabet, and to reach the contact you are looking for is not easy task.
So i am looking for this option to reach the contact quickly. I hope this i explain in better way.
Thanks
this option is already there in xperia, in the top of the contacts page there is one text box, click there and enter the characters which you are looking for(like Ap..in your case)
I didn't meet this problem ever since I bought my X1

I also have never encountered any problem. It's easy to just slide out the keyboard or press the software keyboard button.
Still, when using the scrollbar (the line with the letters aligned to the right) it doesn't add up the letters forming a new word or name.

I've been using my Artemis for a week right now, and I must say I love the overall system !
One thing looks crappy to me: contacts.
I find it very difficult to dial using one hand only (expecially when driving).
I have hundreds of contacts (will be thousands in the near future)... figure it out using it from my car with no stylus looking for Doe, John:
- tap on contacts
- tap twice on "CDE" ... oh.. why is so damn small ?
- use the wheel to reach Doe, John
- press the blue button twice ... oh again ... this thing works as a joystick, and if not pressed correctly you will call your old aunt Dorothy in place of mr Doe !
So, I'm kindly asking to you WM5 gurus:
- is there an alternative way of doing all this process (keep in mind thousand contacts, so dont't tell me to use voice recognition)
or
- is there a way to make the "#ab","cde","fgh" buttons bigger ?
- disable the joystick feature and use just the wheel ?
Thanks in advance,
G.
There is the "Intellidial" on the phone pad that allows you to dial Doe with just 3 presses of the phone keys Press the green button to go into phone function. Press on 3,6,3 successively. Even before you complete this, the name would be shown on the screen. If there are more than one number stored under this name you can use the scrollball left-right to see them. After this just press the scroll ball to dial. Simple.
It would save you a lot of heartache (and less "spam"onthis site) if you would take some time to search and read this and other forums
Merry X'Mas
wow ! Simpler than expected
Thanks !
HTC home "Favorite People" - names are cut to a few letters only. Any fix possible?
Does anyone know if there is a way to modify some registry or *.ini settings to display at least some more letters from a last name so the contact can be recognized?
The problem is that when you assign names from contacts list to Favorite People tabs, the font is so small and room is so little that it displays only a few first letters of a name so you can't figure out whose number is there in case you have same last name for a few persons in your contacts. Try it, and you see what I mean. Here is a screenshot from my Favorite people list. As you can see, two different contacts named "Katia Cell" and "Katia Work" are displayed only with words "Katia..." So it's impossible to figure out which contact is which.
My personal opinion is that it's needed to reduce number of people down to six (from ten) so there will be more room to display letters. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Hello,
If you put the two phone numbers on the same contact, there will be a small icon in the upper left corner to differentiate cell phone and land line number.
This Favorite People option is to use with the contact who has contact's picture. I am using it with picture contact and its fine. For mobile, home or work an icon appear with the picture if you have the same contact with all the different information.
I got it. Works good with a picture contact. Thanks.
Hello,
I was using RCMix V3.0 A2SD+ which has HTC sense.
I can use this number +886222222222pp357 so it will dial number +886222222222.
And after it connects, it will have 2 pause and then automatically dial extion 357.
Now I'm trying Oxygen V2.0.1.
I cannot find how to type "pp."
I searched on internet and some articles said that ",," is working but I couldn't find how to type ",,".
Could anyone teach me this?
Thank you.
Hi,
This is my first post, so easy on me...
Did you try the Dialer One app? It's on the Android Market. That might solve your problem.
Or
p pause 2 second delay put in comma in place of p ","
w wait for input from user ";"
I don't know what your keyboard looks like, so I don't know how to tell you to enter a comma...
Thank you.
I tried ",," to replace "pp". It really works.
However, I couldn't find how to type ",," in dialer one.
I can only add ",," from Google Contacts.
Could you teach me how to input it in Dialer one?
how to enter comma
I'm using CM7 (Gingerbread).
Note: When in contacts, this is how you would create a new contact or edit an existing contact. When in a dialer app, this is how you would call somebody on the phone, as in dial. Sorry I see that Dialer One is not required to enter a comma. However, it's a nice dialer app instead of the stock android one.
For me in contacts to get a comma I press the symbol key, which is the lower left key, and then a symbol keyboard comes up.
In stock dialer I press the hard menu button.
In dialer one, same, I press the hard menu button.
I'm going to try attach some screen shots.
Thank you cpoxda.
This really solve me issue.
Really appreciate!
Hello to everybody.
I'm trying to find out which is the fastest ROM ICS based for doing the following, where fastest means less number of touch on the screen or number of seconds before getting the desired result:
Call John Doe, when you have in the agenda also John Dui, John Ash, John Bone, John Cut and may be some other John as well as some more Doe (Albert, Stefan, Nat).
And then the same for opening the screen into input mode for sending him an SMS.
I used to have also Blackberry (oh yes, nice email reader but not very nice phone/smartphone), but with it, in every point of the user i/f calling John Doe would mean:
press the red button, press J, press space, press D.
I sow different behavior depending ont the ROM on the phone, but before trying all of them, if anyone can post his result it would be very appreciated.
thanks
Luca
Mate, you talking about speed dial or something?
As far as I'm aware there is no speed dial in the stock ICS or Sony dialers. Most if not all custom roms for ARC either use the Sony stock dialer or ICS stock dialer.
There are a few ways however that you can overcome this:
* On the dialer you can select "contacts", long press on someones name and select "add to favorites". Do this for every one you need. Then on the bottom right of the dialer, select "groups" then "star" on the top right. There will be a screen with all the people which you have added to "favorites". When you touch them you have the option of calling or SMS'ing them.
* You can also go to the Google Play Store and search for "speed dial" and download an app to set your friends on the speed dial list or speed dial widget if you want them on your screen. You can then call or SMS. Widgets are probably faster as you can have all people on the screen without opening dialer
* Probably not when your looking for but typing the first few letters of the name of the person on the dialer will bring up their name. You can touch once to call or press and hold the name for the option to send sms.
P.S You seem to have a lot of friends named John
The new ICS has a feature where you can start typing s name and it will narrow it down for you. Or just add them to favorites
@adielee
not speed dial, just a faster and intuitive dialler.
@irononreverse
something like this. May be the right question would be: which is the most intuitive and fast dialler, and feature rich?
I mean, press home button, touch receiver icon, then touch 5 (jkl), touch space, touch 3 (def)
I'm using today boosthd rom, and in the dialpad is not possible to touch "space" (may be I was not able to find the method)
Also in this rom, it is possible to order t9 selection based on name first or number first (by means of the option screen). But it is not possible to show ONLY name or ONLY numbers. This means that the list by touching 2-3 digits is really long.
anyone else have other ideas/solutions/suggestion?
thanks
Luca
I've been using Google Search app/widget for quick contact access on stock ROM, what I do is I limit searchable items in it's settings to just contacts, and when you start typing, it will act just like quick contacts search.
And you can always use voice search command, launch Voice Search and say "Call John Doe"
Is there any possibility for contacts to display with extra information like "job" or other tag? If you use redmi note 8 pro in work and you have lots of names than it is very difficult to find right person. Unfortunately I see only names and surnames

Press dial button, go left to contacts, in contacts press that round circle with letter ,in my case the letter is A, and after that you will see edit contact, press that and you will have a lot of options like other MI phones have..
