Hi all,
I have a problem that I hope you can help with. I have a TMobile Dash that isn't working. Well, everything works just fine except the screen...lol. The screen is totally black and I can't see what I'm doing. TMobile has sent me a replacement phone, as mine was still under warranty. In fact, since this is the second Dash I've had a similar problem with, they allowed me to upgrade to the Dash 3G!!
Here's my problem...My contacts were NOT saved to my SIM card and I can't see what I'm doing, on the phone. So, I've hooked the phone to my laptop, via USB, and am attempting to find my contacts, so I can at least see them, to type them into the new phone. Any suggestions where to look? ORRRR Anyway to give me button by button instructions for moving my contacts to my SIM card? LOL. I've also attempted to use Windows Mobile Device Center, but it won't let me chance Sync Content Settings because I don't have Outlook. The only Content Settings it will Sync are files, but not contacts.
Basically, I need my contacts in the new phone. I can't see the screen of the old phone. I can hook either phone to laptop though. I have Vista, so Active Sync isn't an option. I've heard that there's software, available on this forum, that will allow me to hook my phone to computer, and use computer monitor as phone screen.
Any and all suggestions would be well appreciated!!
My Mobiler
Will not sync but will allow you to see the screen and copy the contents, will still need to make a connection via active sync etc.
Stylez, thank you very much!! Worked just great!!

1. I know I can import Contact information from SIM card to device, but is there any way I can do the reverse since over time contacts changes?
(I have a back-up phone which is nothing more then just a plain ole' Samsung - so if ever I need to switch from my BA device to the phone I have an updated phone book on my SIM card)
2. Recently the battery came off my phone for a few short seconds while in a purse. Upon putting it back on I realized the phone did a hard reset! (I don't know why either!) The purse was practically empty (two wallets and receipts) and had nothing in it that could have started the reset. When I got home and tried to sync, ActiveSync coudln't recognize the phone and wanted to start a new partnership. Anything I can do in the future to prevent this from occuring again - Activesync not recognizing the phone?? I had to delete the partership the computer and start over.
3. In Outlook I have two Contacts list (1 personal and 1 business). I would like to keep them seperate but it seems like Activesync will only sync one contact list at a time. I know I can assign categories and sort them but life is easier keeping them seperate. Any way to do this or a program that wil do this?
THANKS!!!
BUMP!!!
Sorry to do this but some one out there can answer at least one of these questions right???
THANKS!

I have an MDA compact (Magician), and there I can simply mark the contacts I want to copy to the SIM in my list of contacts, then tap-n-hold and select "Save to SIM".

Yes. Make sure that you regularily do backups using Active Sync. Then, next time a hard reset happens, connect your PocketPC to the PC and choose Guest Partnership. Now, just go to Extras - Save/Restore in Active Sync, and restore a backup. After the restore completed, disconnect the PocketPC, soft-reset it, then re-connect. It will now simply use your old partnership.

I do not know of any way to do that. Maybe someone else does - if yes, I would also be very interested!
Cheers

First, yes, you can have 2 separate contact lists in Outlook. Just create new folder "that will contain contacts" or something to that effect.
Next, download the MS add-on that will let you sync 2 lists. Maybe part of the powertoys or something like that. Definitely out there. Seen it.
Outlook Add In
Thanks....Tadzio!!! Your info was a real big help!!
Has any one heard or found this Outlook add in? I searched all over Microsoft's website and couldn't find it???
What is a power toy??
Thanks!
Hello everyone! Well, I just bought a Jasjar and already having major problems...
I have had a Windows Smartphone before, and am familiar with ActiveSync 4.1, however, for some reason when I synce the Jasjar I get everything BUT my contacts! What is the deal? I have them checked off in the intial screen for Sync but after it syncs, I the original options to sync stacked on top of another list of options, the bottom list will not allow me to click contacts, but the top one does!
Please help...Is this phone all that it is cracked out to be?
Thanks!
Confusing. If you, at ActiveSync, go to Tools->Options, you should able to choose what you want to sync.
Or else, you can delete the relationship (e..g File -> Delete mobile device) and then reconnect and start everything all over again.
If still doesn't work, provide some screen shots, see what we can do about it.
it sounds like you have the device synced to 2 different computers. it will never let you sync contacts to both computers. uncheck the top one and check the bottom one, and see if that solves your issue.
I upgraded to Schap's WM6 Pro 3.54b ROMs from my Vista, but after the upgrade and sync back the contact & appointment on the first time at night, the next day, the contacts are gone, and the phone no longer be sync to my computer.......
Now I try to back up using SPBackup, but then the contact's application couldn't even launch.....any expert can help solve the problem for me?
Big Thanks in advance......
Sound like you need to upgrade Active Sync
I had similar problem, make sure you didn't sync up as guest.
Otherwise, when it happened to let last time, i check my deleted files on Outlook on the computer and just simply restored my contact files etc.
I really don't know much else, hope what i mentioned helps. i know it's bit vague only because i did it trial by error, and i think i got most of my contacts back.
But i'm using XP and active sync 4.2 i think..
Guess different issues.
My problem seems to be different as there are two problems.
1. the Remote mobile adapter is connected, but the Vista's mobile center doesn't launch and can't recongzie the device.
2. The contact program on the device can't be launch......
Now I can't even re-swap the rom on the device, and it just stuck.... Right now I am using Excel mobile to check on my contacts, and that's stupid
Please help.........
Try deleting ur old parnetership from Vista mobile sync center. and hard resetting your phone again.
hope this helps
i just posted about this too
hard reset sorted out my device, i was geting unknown device and a driver issue for active sync and internet sharing
Whilst the phone is NOT connected through USB, ensure the following:
From START menu --> Programs --> ActiveSync --> Menu --> Options (Choose the connection you use in case more than one) --> Settings (under "If thre is a conflict" choose "Keep the item on my device").
Hope this will help.
I found the problem now
Hi all,
I now figure the issue as I can sync with another computer, and I think the problem is on my vista. However, After I uninstall the window mobile center, I can't reinstall it. seems after I update the driver, it doesn't recongize my device.
Can anyone tell me what are the files and registry that control the connection between my Hermes & my computer, and maybe if I can delete it all, and add it back, it will be ok.... that is just my guess, and I don't know how to do that, please help me.......Thanks

Check the Club Nokia web site. I used to have a Nokia phone, and they have a software suite that will allow you to export contacts from Outlook to most of their phones.
http://www.nokiausa.com/A4986252
You can Sync your contacts to your PC, then use the Nokia Suite to copy them from Outlook to your Nokia.
Note that if you don't have access to a Nokia data cable, in many cases you can sync with Infra-Red. I had an old Nokia 6610 and used IR from my laptop to keep my contacts up-to-date.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
just install this, plug into activesync and you can view your phone from your desktop...therefore you can just copy everything to the sim and you should be all set.

Very handy software. Thank you.
thanks gixxum, exactly what i was looking for!
im here to please
It's not happening and I am frustrated.
I just got this system installed two days ago. My Bluetooth connects and I can play music and answer or make calls, but my contacts and phone history will not sync over to the receiver.
I click yes on the dialog box when it asks to transfer the information, but it never transfers. I called Pioneer once but the rep was not much help. He suggested I delete the phone from the receiver and start over again. I did that. I called the installer and he suggested I do that as well as turn Bluetooth on and off. I did that.
I am going to go see the installer Monday if I can't get it figured out. It appears I am doing everything I should be doing but it seems the phone is blocking the transfer. I even tried selecting all my contacts and sharing them with Bluetooth and then the receiver but the send file fails.
Any suggestions as to what might be blocking this sync?
Hey I have the same deck as you and what you are trying to do is not possible for the time I spend with it and if you did manage to sync them what are the benefits? Look at your contact list when you leave your phone behind but can't do anything with said contacts because you don't have a phone? Doesn't make much sense right.
That dialog box that comes up when you first pair with the deck is asking you permission to access the phone contacts and not download/sync them.
When your phone is connected you can push the phone button and will let your scroll through your contact list and press the button again to call. Well that's all I remember what to do when I used the phone part of this deck, which is not a lot.
Hope this cleared some things up.
Also if I'm completely off base and you are having trouble with the contacts not displaying or showing when someone calls, then you got a bad unit.

Thank you Gilbert for the reply.
When I push any of the phone menu buttons, I don't get any information. It just says "transferring."
I decided to call Samsung yesterday and twice got on remote access, but both times I hit the wrong button on my stereo and the calls were lost. When I called the third time I started speaking with someone who was going to get me back to the remote access department and he asked me how many contacts I was trying to sync over. I told him about 1,800. He said, "Whoa, I can tell you from experience that generally car stereo receivers only sync up to 900 contacts."
So, I worked all night last night on my contacts. They were a mess and even if this doesn't work the guy did me a huge favor because I was able to shave my contact list down to 564 and unlinked them all from old Verizon backup assistant and Microsoft Exchange contacts. It was an ugly job that truly needed to be done.
Anyway, I have not tried to allow access yet. I am going to try in a little while and then I will report back in.
Well, it's been ugly, but things are working out .... weirdly!
After cleaning up my stock contact app, the contacts finally became visible but they are still being linked in with Microsoft Outlook contacts. I have tried every which way for them not to show up. I even deleted everyone of them from my computer and they are still showing up when I Bluetooth the stereo.
Well at least you got it working for you and seemed like you overwhelmed the unit with all those contacts.
But I find that strange that you can't get those contacts from showing up. So you deleted those outlook contacts from your computer but did you on the phone? Also have you disabled contact sync of the outlook account in the settings?
Also you could try to unpair your phone and pair again and see if that helps.
