Check your initflashfiles.dat and remove all the scripts that create the 'Start Menu.' Also, look at all of the provxml files in the kitchen. There is probably one that creates the 'Office Mobile' folder which may screw with you. There could be some other ones, too (like for task manager or for widgets). The easiest thing is just to organize your \windows folder by file extension and copy all the .provxml's and the .dat file to your pc. Some of the provxml's will be hidden.
ok i found my problem i search for initflash.dat file for 6.5 in spanish and replace the original english one... start menu was fixed, but now i am tring to edit that one (the spanish one) with notepad a when i cook the rom with the file modifed... start menu and part of the rom goes to hell... i have to hex edit or something the spanish file after i edite ir????

I was modding vp3g's rom and when I put another Comm Manager package into SYS and run buildOS, I get the error "Comm Manager already exist". I did a search on OEM and SYS for "comm" and I found nothing about existing comm manager. How could I solve this problem? TIA

Just delete the duplicate file. Its a duplicate file existance error message.
The problem is I did a search in the folders and I found no duplicated files
The attached file is what I got after extracting everything off Schap's 10 button comm manager found in his thread. I created the rgu and dsm. I then toss the whole folder into SYS. Then I ran buildOS. At the very end of the process, I got the error.

Do you have your folders hidden not to show the system files? If so, then a search wont find the commanager.exe.
I would put the new Comm Manager files in the OEM folder. Try that and see what happens.
say, i have ao old wince.nls in \SYS\Base
i have an oem package that includes a new wince.nls that i would liek to compile under \Windows as well
other than removing the old wince.nls physically before BuildOS, is there any other way?

This is what you do:
1. go to Start/ programs/System Tools/task manager/
2. Locate CommManager.exe, click on "close".
3. Install the new Comm Mgr of your choice, Do a soft reset... you are good to go.
Nope, windows is not hiding any files, i;ve set it to show all hidden files but still couldnt find it.
@asfoor
What you suggest works if I am trying to install comm manager when the existing comm manager is running in the background but I am not trying to install the comm manager via a cab, i'm trying to cook it into the rom.
what kitchen are you using?
Rename CommManager to Comm Manager and it will then work. There was a similar problem adding touchflo into the Pandora kitchen and this fixed it.
I am trying to unsign a bronzeres.dll. How do you do that. I have Ricky's Rom tools with the unsigner.exe, but when I click on it on my pc, it opens the DOS window and closes it in like 1 second. I don't know how to work this thing. Please help, someone?!?
You got the right tool, you just need to use it the right way. I take it you've never used DOS applications ?
What you do is, you go to the start menu and go up to run. Type "cmd". Using the command "cd c:\xxxx" (where xxx is the name of the folder you want to go to), go to the folder the unsigner.exe tool is located in. It might be easier to move it to a simple folder on the c drive like "1" and then just type "cd c:\1".
After that, just type "unsigner bronzeres.dll" and it will give you a message saying it removed the certificate
IIRC, you can also drag the desired .dll onto the unsigner icon. Try it. ?
He's right, that will work also. You just don't really have to time to check the confirmation message whether the dll was unsigned or not, or if it was already unsigned...
I tried that, but it was unsuccessful. I did get it to work though. I had to get a file called unsigned.bat and drag my file into that folder and the unsigner to that folder, click on the bat and viola,it worked. I guess it must be a Vista thing. Oh yeah, by the way to Organic, I have used DOS, but man, it's been a while I must admit. I have almost forgotten how extremely simple of a program it really is. Kinda made me want to start using it again to do some simple programs, anways, thanks to all of you for the input. Without your help, I would have given up on this and said F**K it. Now my screen looks sharp as hell. I'll post my dll and screen pics and cpr files soon, in case anyone would like my mods that I have made. Holla!!
outerdepth, DOS is a not a program, it is an operating system. Of course now a days all you get is a modified version of MSDOS 5.0 in a virtual machine, but it is still not a program.
Certificate copy
Hello Folks,
How can i Copy Certificate from ORIGINAL MUI file to my own made UnSign MUI file?
How can i use ORIGINAL MUI file on WM ?
(Not by cooking new one, making a cab for it)
Thanks!

If you have a stock Blackstone, you don't have any operator customized file. To add a custom oplogo you need to add some registry key. I have also a stock one so I'm also searching for those registry keys.

I to have a stock Blackstone so I'm interested in seeing what you find. I would like to have the custom logo on mine as well.
Hi All,
This is a Hidden system File, if you are using Resco Explorer, go to Menu->Options->Browser tab and uncheck the options "Hide hidden files" "Hide files in ROM".
Hi Friends,
Regarding the Registry Keys for Operator Logo.
I also searched for 256x64.png in my registry, its located at
HKLM-> Software -> HTC -> Manila -> OperatorLogo -> 52505 -> Logo
This key has the value "\windows\256x64.png"
Note: I am using the ROM which came with the Device.
Hope this helps.
What happens if I just delete the 256x64.png file?
no more news for this very interesting thread ?

I tried, and I got: " File '\Windows\256x64.png' is in ROM memory! You cannot delete it."
I also tried to replace it with an empty one, nothing changed.
shamsul, since you managed to modify one, can you provide us a totally transparent one?
Hi
Please find the transparent file attached.
I use Touch HD, but there is no file in my windows folder? i did uncheck hidden files to see it. but no success. I want to change my operator logo.

But the image shows you get rid of starhub logo in Home horizontal tab.
What about deleting the big starhub logo when you are in Browser horizaontal tab ?
Thanks

Can you explain the "Logo" is a Key or String Value. Thanks!

weird, I replaced the windows\256x64.png logo with the empty one using resco explorer, then I soft-reseted, and when TF3D restarted the logo is still there! I checked the image I just replaced using HTC Album, and it displays a white rectangle, so I assume it is the correct one, but then how come Star Hub's logo is still on today screen?

It's a String Value.
I just tried to simply delete the string, now the value of 'Logo' is empty. Soft-reset. Logo is still there :'( whyy ??
Hey Shamsul,
I tried 'all ways' but still cannot get rid of the StarHub Logo oi.
I must have missed something along the way...damned!
James
Not work for me even though edited registry.
Same here
did not work for me ,
Did not have the file in windows directory , so created and copied my own file to windows, modified registry , soft reset , still no operator logo ?
Instead of "52505" you should use the Network code of your GSM operator. You can take a look to find it here: http://www.activexperts.com/xmstoolkit/networkcodes/, or just use Google.
Alright guys, and gals
I hate to bother everyone over such a minute, tiny issue, and I'm sure this has been asked before (although before everyone jumps on me I have already searched the forum), but I was wondering if there is an easy was to change or get rid of the "START" text next to the start menu in WM 6.1?
I have just installed some gorgeous task bar icons by InsecureSpike and feel that I can do without the Start text.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Orpheus

Just did a search. THIS popped up
Its actually not that difficult. Just follow these instructions by tsowens who by the way deserves credit for this.
Change Start Text
1. Unsign your shellres.dll.0409.mui
2. Open it in one of these three Reshack / PE Explorer / Restoratorand go to string value 321 and change the name from Start to whatever you want.
3. Save your modified file
4. Open MssignerorMultiple file Signer
· click Start sign Process (for MFS follow directions in the link)
· a window will pop-up with "Process finished!"
· You will see a that a text file has been create for your shellres on your desktop
· Open the text file, if you see "Warning: This file is signed, but not timestamped, Succeeded" you know the file was signed.
5. Transfer the modified file to your SD card
6. Open TC and navigate to the /Windows and rename your old file to "shellres.dll.0409.mui.bak"
7. Move your modified file from your SD card into the /Windows
8. Soft Reset updated 12/09/08
super, thank you so much

Hi all,
in the Windows directory you got the directorys RSK und LSK. This is the abbreviation for RightSoftKey and LeftSoftKey.
In these directories one find a link to the software which is supposed to start if one presses the left or right softkey.
Somehow my links are broken so I tried to fix them. For example: the left softkey is supposed to start the calendar.
So, this isnt working: couldnt find the directory states the errormessage.
So I look into the Windows directory, found the calendar.lnk and copied it to the directory LSK.
Not working. If I look at the properties of the link in LSK, I see that the file has changed !
Just by copying ...
The properties doesnt contain the necessary information for starting the calendar any longer: shortcut: pooutlook.exe calendar.
Again , these informations get lost just by copying the file into the LSK directory. Editing the link to enter these information isnt possible.
How can I fix this - any idea pleaase ?
regards
Thomas
