Hey Guys i just got tp2 , however i dont know quite alot about windows mobile as i was a symbian user
I have a series of questions that i hope can find an answer
As we all know tp2 comes with windows mobile 6.1 and i have seen several leeks of 6.5 provided by XDA , my question is as follow can i install it normally and download it directly to my phone ?? or is their another way to get windows 6.5 to My tp2?
Second question is i really wanna know whats the benefits of doing Hard SPL , and whats the benefits of roms like energy rom? do they replace touch flo or something or the whole windows mobile? if anyone would just give me an insight to why one would want to use Hard SPL and constantly get new roms
Third: it also mentions with energy rom that it is windows 6.5 does this mean i must have windows 6.5 leaked version installed? or energy rom installs windows 6.5 by default to my phone?
Finally if i did install those roms could i download default windows applications like say coreplayer for example? or that wont be allowed ??

to install any custom rom on your device, you need to have hardspl on your device. hardspl allows you to install these custom roms otherwise you would get an error and nothing would happen. the benefit is that these roms are tweaked and dont come with all the bloat ware that your cell providers cram a phones with. you must read the instructions though as you can damage your phone to the point of it not working anymore. as for apps, if they are built for windows mobile 5.0 and up, chances are that they will work, although some apps dont run at 800x480 resolution. some apps require .NET Framework 2.0 or 3.5. you can download that through microsoft. and as far as windows version, that gets installed with the rom. so if it says 6.1 in the discription then you will be running 6.1 and so on. by installing these roms, you get an experience tailored more to your need instead of what a company puts out for everyone.

To answer your third questions...energy rom will install windows mobile 6.5 on your phone while it loads. There is no other steps necessary. (Besides Hard spl'ing first)
To answer your last question...Yes, you will be able to install coreplayer. You should be able to install any win mob program for that matter.

Umm...there's this user named Mikey1022 who has both of the Windows Mobile ROMs you're looking for in his signature. Just search for him. He should have posts scattered throughout the Excalibur forum. **DISCLAIMER** Beware attempting to use Windows Mobile 6.1 from this forum. It's a "cooked" ROM (meaning it was developed by an amateur developer and not Microsoft). Installing (or 'flashing' as we call it) is a bit trickier with cooked ROMs. There are, however, numerous threads which have detailed instructions on how to flash the 6.1 ROM. Microsoft has released an official Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM to the public, but the Dash/Excalibur has yet to receive it (which is one of the reasons why we've been using the cooked version).

what ROM are you using? sorry i always assume people here are using the WM 6.1 cooked ROMS and not one of the official WM 6 or WM5 official ROMS. the .cab was built around the WM 6.1 ROM. secondly, if it isn't one of the WM 6.1 ROMs , is your phone application unlocked?

First, I have a question about cooking ROMs. A ROM is made of the Windows Mobile OS and some Applications, right? So where do you get the OS included in cooked ROMs. I would like to have a ROM with WM only. Like a formated PC with the OS installed after the first boot. This status I would like to have on my Touch Diamond. Does anyone know how to get this working?
I ask because I've seen a cooked ROM with CE OS 5.2.21042 and on my TD i have version 5.2.20764, but Windows Update reports, that no updates are available.

but with nothing loaded is barely usable (i'm talking about not having tf3d)
goto settings/today and disable Touchflo... thats what 'bare WM' would look like... and function like...
And is there any possibility to get just a wm update, that I have the newer OS Build, but without having to flash a new ROM?
no, just flash the new 6.5 rom, there is one with 120mb free which sounds like what you are after

usually xda-member posts both XIP and SYS of the latest build.
usually after rom cookers release their ROM first.

I have a diamond with standard rom2.03.401.2 WWE.
SPB shell and s2u finally grew old and i want a new ROM. I want it to have Windows Mobile 6.5.5 Office 2010 and opengl drivers (for best performance). I want it clean and simple, nothing more than what i stated above and maybe sense 2.5.
I need help to find such a rom, and flashing help. I never flashed a non-official version. I've read the tutorials, but i want you to give me ROM recommendations and indicate which HardSPL i need to use and some basic instructions on what to do.

I am desperately need some help. It's almost six months since I read about flashing custom roms and until now I can't find the courage to do it. For I don't muster enough knowledge (I think) in doing it.
I have an HTC Universal running in wm5. I want to flash it into wm 6.5. Is there some body who can forward me the suitable ROM and help me in the process of upgrading it? I really want to flash it to WM 6.5 so I can install cool looking GUI of e book reader in my device and some more eye candy stuffs.

Regarding the upgrading/flashing of my device. What are the things that one could get if he/she flashed her device? In other words why would someone wants to upgrade his/her device?
What I mean by this question is, is there any reason why would a dopod 900 user like me would want to upgrade from windows mobile 5 to windows mobile 6.1? What are the things that I can do if I will upgrade?
Yes I think there would be some nice applications that can only be installed in Windows Mobile 6.1 or Windows Mobile 6.5 however, if I just install a program that would do a make over of my GUI, SPB mobile shell for instance, everything will be like the same even if it has different Versions of Windows Mobile for I am using the same alternative shell for my device as a GUI.
Any insights? or word of wisdom that could enlightened me? Thank you so much!
