Hi everyone,
I have been trying to enable the read and write on fonts folder by chmod
Unfortunately, nothing worked for me
everytime I write chmod 777 system/fonts/ on CMD it gives me an error message saying read only.
My device is rooted.
would appreciate any help

Try adding su before chmod
For example
su chmod 777 directory

What you need to do is go to the terminal and type in the following commands:

mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system #remount the /system partition read/writte

hi all. after restoring to original rom routed from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616991 9the second one, I lost the root access. I was trying the following commands
adb shell mount /system
adb push su /system/bin/
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/
adb shell reboot
but I got this :
what can I do in order to restore my root access? I was trying to re flash with FlashRek, but use less. I still have the Recovery Image when I boot in recovery mode......Help
try in recovery, instead of "mount /system" use "mount -a".
This doesn't necessarily mean you lost root.
It's not an error, for example, "permission denied". You just need an additional parameter, in this case, the mtdblock device (mtdblock3)
To facilitate your life if you mount/umount often, add the appropriate entries to the fstab, ergo, create one.
This is a full valid entry:
/dev/block/mtdblock3 /system yaffs2 rw
or, if you want it your way:
adb shell mount -t yaffs2 -o rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system (you might not need -o rw, since it's mounted as rw by default)

To install from CMD - Terminal

2. adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl6 /system
3. adb push fxps /system/bin/fxps
4. adb shell busybox chmod 755 /system/bin/fxps
5. adb shell reboot
To Run it
1. adb shell fxps
2 adb shell reboot
To install from Terminal Emulator

Am I the only one who thought that the system-partition should be mounted from /dev/block/mtdblock3 ?
i believe it should be mtdblock3 or you can boot into recovery and just adb shell mount /system
Just wanted to know if anyone knows how to disable the virtual cdrom in OOS when you plug in usb to pc. I have looked and there is no cdrom.iso like other phones i had.
Edit: Just overlooked the file.
If anyone is interested in disabling the virtual cdrom upon usb connection, navigate to /system/etc with a root filemanager and rename usb_drivers.iso to usb_drivers.iso.bak and reboot. or enter the following commands in adb shell and reboot. Phone MUST be rooted.

mv /system/etc/usb_drivers.iso /system/etc/usb_drivers.iso.bak

i'm on (pixel 2xl) lineageos 16.0 rooted with magisk, i want to add a script in init.d folder but i can't do it, i tried with root explorer but it doesn't work, afwall also can't mount folder for startup script, any solution?

Why? What error do you get?
Try to move/copy something into /tmp folder. It should work if you're rooted (your shell shows # instead of $).
If it doesn't work, maybe you have to remount your system as rw (read and write):

mount -o rw,remount /
after you made your modifications, mount it as ro (read only) again:
Code:
mount -o ro,remount /
If it still doesn't work, we need to see the error you get (copy and paste into this forum) while moving/coping something into /tmp.

Can you verify you entered that command as root?
Please do the following:
Do this on your computer to enter your devices shell
Code:
prompt_PC:~$ adb shell
Code:
prompt:~$ whoami
This should give you either "shell" or "root"
If it says "shell" do:
Code:
prompt:~$ su
prompt:~#
It will show a # instead of $ if you're root.
If you're already root (or you are now root due to su command), do:
Code:
prompt:~# mount -o rw,remount /
Now it should be writeable and you can do your modifications.
After you finished you need to change it to ro (read only) again:
Code:
prompt:~# mount -o ro,remount /
After that you can exit the shell:

prompt:~# exit
prompt:~$ exit
(first exits su, second exits shell)
