TP2 soft resetting, Powering off and other random issues... - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I mentioned this in another thread only briefly.
This Friday on the 28 I set my alarm, all three. One to 7, the other to 7:02 and the last to 7:04... Whatever. That Saturday morning I wake up at 8:05(learned afterwards) on my own, I reach over to the phone to see the time(assuming I'm up early) and the phone is off. I pressed the hardware keys and opened up the keyboard because I think it's something simple, hit the power button and nothing... Keep my finger on the power button and nothing. I wind up having to remove the battery and reinserting, hitting the power button and it finally worked.
Here's where it gets more interesting...
I am on my way to tumbling practice that same saturday affternoon. Messing around with my new phone, annoyed that my location doesn't work with google maps unless gps is enabled or the radio is in gsm mode(no 3g at 25 a month, don't get me started). I had just installed mort player on the walk to the bus and am sliding the phone into my back pocktet whilst listening to some Gnarles Barkley and wudduya know? Off goes the sound. I take the phone out, see whats up, and it's off. What the ****(I love all mods)??? This happens a second time as well when I repeated the steps to test. Hmmmm???!...
On to sunday.. This morning I wake up and what do you know. My phone is off. This time I had the idea to just use the stylus to soft reset the phone which I hadn't thought of the morning before(Sighs in disbelief).
I hope this is a program I've installed and not the phone. I know how HTC loves to give refurbs as warrenty replacements. Ib am going to hard reset the phone and install nothing and see what that does me for. I will hpoe for the best and see what happens. I like this phone. I dont want a refurbed replacement.
This and the sd card dissapearing every now and then coupled with the no my location in G maps is annoying. We will see, we will see said the blind man...

Same issue
I am having the same issue, did you ever figure out what it was?

Artemis won't turn on

Hello all
My artemis won't turn on anymore. I managed to do an hard reset but when it got to resetting the device, it will not start again. Tried removing the battery for some time, but no results.
Only thing I'm able to do is start the bootloader and use mtty. Is there something I can do from there ?
Regards
Hello,
I had the same problem, ended up with service - took 3 weeks (Norway). In the beginning it happen once or twice a day, managed to turn it on but after a few weeks it didnt start at all.
Best regards
BA
I had the same problem today on my Orbit. I started the GPS (igo 2006) this morning, and it started calculating a route from my present location to somewhere really far (forgot to reset the route). It became unresponsive, so i decided to soft-reset.
However, it wouldn't turn on... I removed the battery, sim, and microsd card for an hour, and tried to start, but no luck. Soft-reseting didn't do anything either. When I got home, I plugged it in to charge, but no go... the charging light stayed off, and a soft-reset wouldn't work.. wouldn't even power on!
Finally, I pressed the voice tag button (top left button on the side, beside the volume slider), and the soft-reset button togther for a couple of seconds... and it booted up like normal.
Not sure if this is a permanent solution, but I'm going to back-up everything daily from now.
Try it... might work for you.

Tilt 2 has narcolepsy

I don't know how it started but my Tilt 2 keeps falling asleep (screen off) after 5 seconds. This happens whether it is plugged in or on battery. The only way to stop it is to open Google Maps (I think Google Maps prevents sleeping on purpose) but as soon as Google Maps looses focus (even opening the Google Maps menu), after 5 seconds the phone goes back to sleep.
I have turned off all the power settings to no avail. I have been using SU2U lock for over a month with no problems. The last change to the phone was installing Gyrator about a week ago but this still occurs even with Gyrator not running.
Help!
One additional bit of info. It goes to sleep even if the phone is not idle. I could be in the middle of clicking something and then...LIGHTS OUT!
are you accidentally hitting the power button by any chance, particularly when the hardware keyboard is out, this is happening to a lot of people
(there is a cab fix for this by h andy)
edit... i just noticed you said its happening at 5 second intervals. obviously that cant be the power button issue.
Mine did too
My tilt 2 was doing the same thing.
I was worried that I had a bad phone.
I was on NRG's 4 dec 21XXX when this was happening. I reflashed twice, and still the same problem.
Reflashed to the 10 DEC 21XXX and it went away (well as for one day that is)
Phew!!!
Ugh. I was hoping reflashing wasn't the solution. I am still using the stock ROM with a bunch of software installed.
At least I am not crazy. Someone else is having the same problem on their Diamond 2.

I have found that the placement of the lights out button is very very bad for typing with the physical keyboard, I am still relearning how to keep my knuckle away from it.
Update on this problem. I removed Smart Lock and soft resetted a few times. So far so good.
I am not accidentally hitting the sleep button.

[Q] Help needed for fixing quirky/malfunctioning software!

Hi folks, I've lurked here for quite a while and gotten some invaluable info; so first off thanks for all of the contributions from the gurus here!
Now, I have a pretty strange issue that I haven't been able to find an answer on anywhere. I'm hoping that someone can help me sort this.
The background story:
My wife has a MyTouch 3G Slide that I bought for her back in July. Last week she managed to drop it in some water. It DID NOT get fully submerged since the water was very shallow. However, it did get a slight amount of intrusion. She pulled the battery in a relatively quick amount of time and we let it sit in a bowl of rice to dry out for a couple days.
The current deal:
When I felt the phone was sufficiently dried after a few days, I fired it up. It took a very long time to get out of the MyTouch splash screen and loaded noticeably slower than normal. Once in, the phone functioned perfectly normal. Absolutely no issues at all with any functionality once you get past the security pattern.
However, whenever you put the phone to sleep, it does some funky stuff. The screen goes black for a second and then comes back on, ready for you to swipe down and then enter the security pattern again. Then it will go black again. Then it comes back on. It just continues to do this, never stopping. Sometimes it will go to the security pattern screen too.
So I figured this may have been some hardware issue since it was acting like someone was just repeatedly pressing the power button. First I wanted to try a simple reboot though. Upon rebooting, the phone would not get past the splash screen. It just froze there.
I pulled the phone apart to see if maybe there was some corrosion on the PCB from the water intrusion. Everything looked fine, but while I was in I did a little wipe-down with some alcohol, then I put it back together. After multiple attempts, I was able to get it to boot again. But the boot process was still VERY slow. Occasionally, it would boot into safe mode as well. But when it booted normally, everything would always function great once logged into the phone. This convinced me that it wasn't a hardware problem since the phone would not cut into sleep mode or anything when logged in. It worked perfectly fine. So I figured that maybe there was some sort of corruption that occurred in the software.
So I tried a hard reset. Didn't fix it.
Then I figured that maybe I needed to do a reflash. So I rooted the phone since the water plunge voided the warranty anyways. Once rooted, I flashed TeamFenix 1.7.1 successfully.
But the phone still only fully boots intermittently, and the boot process is still slow. It also has the same problem in sleep mode which is killing the battery fast since the screen is pretty much constantly on. But once in, the flashed ROM works perfectly just like the stock ROM.
Video of the condition:
Since I'm new, I'm not allowed to put any links in my post. But if you type in the string below after the YouTube url, you'll see a quick video I posted of the condition.
watch?v=dX55URtaRHo
So it seems that there is some crazy issue only upon bootup and when the phone is put to sleep. Can anything be done to fix this? Is there a way to locate and fix corrupted software? Any and all help is appreciated!
Sorry for the self bump. Any devs out there have any suggestions? I gotta get this thing sorted.
If its happening on both stock and teamfenix, I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Flashing a rom completely replaces the software, so it doesn't sound like its that.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
It actually seems like a problem in the power button. Did you check the contacts for the power button? Repeatedly pressing the power button will first lock it initially and dim the screen. Press again, then it gives you the chance to unlock. Press again and it goes back to sleep. Wash rinse repeat...
Yes, I understand. But if it were an issue with the power button, when you logged into the phone, it would randomly put itself to sleep. It doesn't do that, it functions perfectly normal with no errors whatsoever when you are logged into the phone. This problem is only exhibited in sleep mode which would rule out a hardware issue with the power button.

Annoying Screen Rotation Issue

If I have the hardware keyboard out and the phone goes into sleep mode and I close the phone, when I hit the power button, I get the issues shown in the attached images. It won't respond to anything unless I open out the keyboard and close it again or, tap on the notification area and close the notification screen. No issues if the phone is not allowed to sleep.
Don't want to hard reset if I can avoid it, anyone else had this issue?
I have never seen my device do this, but I don't think I have ever let my device go to sleep while in landscape.
To avoid this, why don't you just change your backlight settings? While on battery power, set the backlight to turn off if idle for 5 minutes or something. This way you'll never have it fall asleep on you. Unless of course you read extremely slow and a page takes 5 minutes.
Was thinking about increasing the backlight settings for a bit longer. I had that situation by chance last night and tried various things, uninstalling software, bluetooth head set, changed radio, hard reset and even task29 and a new flash, still same issue.
Just starting to get fed up with these little annoyances, would be nice if it just worked, lol.
Wow that's rather odd that you did a hard reset and still had the issue. That would suggest that it is most definitely device specific. Maybe you can call your carrier, and if it's your lucky day they can replace your phone. ??
Why no try Energe ROM, It has no such problem.

Lumia 900 just died... like totally dead!

...and won't turn on. Totally non-responsive. It's barely 2 months old. I was browsing on it, and battery level was about 75% (3/4 charged). Connected to home WiFi. Now it's not responding at all - power button doesn't do anything. I have connected it to a power source; typically this powers on the phone even if it's off - nothing so far. Took out the SIM, and tried that too. No dice. I have the June 6th update installed.
Any one experienced something like this? Any thoughts? Any advice?

Did u try a hard reset?
1. plug into original nokia USB adapter and cable. leave connected for up to 1 minute. If nothing then,
2. as previous poster stated, do a forced soft reset holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
3. try hard reset -- hold down volume down + camera key, then press power down for 2-3 seconds.
Good luck
Would you try something a little un-orthodox? It may sound strange, but before you go and wipe all your data from your device with a reset try this:
Take your device, put it in a nylon/plastic bag (like those you put your sandwich in) and seal the bag. Now put the bag with your device into the freezer (YES! that thing in your kitchen!) for 15-20 minutes.
After that, take your device out and try to turn it on.
This method worked for a similar problem which occurred with another Nokia device with a non-removable-battery, the N8...
How to perform a soft reset http://www.wpcentral.com/tip-how-soft-reset-nokia-lumia-800-lumia-900
Thanks to everyone who replied. I tried the key-combinations to perform a reset. Did not work. Used the Nokia charger and left it plugged in, no change. Even tried the freezer-bag advice... nada. Phone was truly dead, from a 100% running state. Extremely weird. I've been in touch with Nokia USA and would have taken it to the store on Monday morning.
HOWEVER - out of nowhere, totally randomly, it turned itself back on at some point. I had it on my bed-stand, and was in the other room when I heard it ring. Ran over, and sure enough - it was alive, well and performing like nothing had happened.
No idea what (if any) of the methods I tried worked, but it resuscitated itself.

LOL! You probably got the Lumia 900P - the Phoenix version!
To tell you the truth, yesterday I had a strange "almost dead Lumia 900" moment myself! I was on my way from work to the bus station, while listening to music on an internet radio station (I'm using the "Tunein Radio" app) when I decided to change the station I was listening to, and when I switched to the other station the screen became entirely black and all I could see is the station's Stop/Favorite/Bookmark buttons.
Anything I clicked on did absolutely nothing... At one point the screen became completely blank but the device was still working (I knew it was still on because I could hear the static 'clicking' sound in my headphones when I connected them to the device), so I just tried pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds, and the device finally turned itself off...
After turning it on again, everything was working as if nothing happened... Odd stuff...
