which on e is better? I cant decide which one to get. they both look good but I dont know. any suggestions?
I say TOuch pro 2 because it has a keybaord, a bigger screen, dual speakers, dual mics, and im not sure but I think it might have one sensor thing for detecxting something that the diamond doesn't but im not sure if it does or what the sensor thing does lol but yeah I think the touch pro 2 is alot better
I say TP2 because of the slightly bigger screen, but it comes down to what is important to you.
I am this close to going with the diamond2 myself because it doesn't have a hardware keyboard, and I'm an oddity in that regard. I think hw keyboards add bulk and cost but not value.
It also seems like the diamond2 will not come to my carrier, and in the end I decided I wanted the larger screen more than I did not want the keyboard. The other stuff (dual speakers, proximity sensor, yada yada) are pretty much useless to me, but I want the screen. I have a vague hope that before I buy the TP 2 I'll find out that Sprint is going to offer a phone with the TP2's screen size and no keyboard. Then I'll have a great phone.
TP2. the bigger screen, dual speaker, smarttalk, and slide out keyboard make it more attractive than the TD2. sure, the TD2 has a 5 mp camera, but that's just a small thing. (at least it is to me )
I'm also opting for the touch pro 2 because i need a keyboard.
As for the dual speakers, where did you guys get that info? From a video i've seen its only one speaker that directs its sound into a channel/tunnel in the back cover.
Also the spec sheet on pdadb.net says its speaker is mono.
i'd go with td2. i honestly dont know of a situation where i will really need to have a speaker better than just the regular phone speaker. screen is bigger, but theyre both big compared to regular diamond. i take more pics with my fone so im going with the better camera.

but htc's website says that there are 2 speakers
http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro2/product-tour.html
the two speaker technology is called smarttalk I think. It guess it's supposed make the speaker phone volume a lot louder. and the music volume too!!! I'm hoping that they'll decide to put a 3.5 mm headphone jack on it!!!
Price is an issue of course . . .
TD2 = $550 shipped from Clove
TP2 = $690 shipped from Clove
TP2 is almost $150 more than TD2 . . . not sure if its worth it for a worse camera, keyboard, larger screen, 2 speakers, and conference calling.

think about it- better screen, a full tilting qwerty keyboard, and higher quality sound- it seems worth it, 150 more, but they shouldnt have taken off the 5 megapixel camera, but 690 is really high thought but it should be alot cheaper with a new contract I am thinking
3.5 jack as well.....
the TP 2 is way too fat!

If that's your biggest complaint, then it must be a pretty good phone
Lol, I don't care about thickness too much personally. Hey, at least its thinner than the Pantech Matrix Pro!

I'm afraid I always compare it with women...
I think I'm on the wrong part of the forum, I'm off to the slim part...
I'd say Touch Pro2 was way better than TD2 a couple of weeks ago, until HTCs removed FM-radio from the former .
Now I look at SEX1, which seems to be the best HTC pnone by now and for months to come.

women? sex1? am i on the right forum here?

SEX1 stands for Sony-Ericsson [Xperia] X1
TP2 because it´s physical keyboard!!
IT'S hard to decide... HD... TD2... or TD Pro... Radio or no Radio... Keyboard or not ... Larger screen or not... 3.5mm or USB... I already own an HD and it's brilliant, the TD2 only wins with it's native TFlo version 2 but developers here can sort that out with no problems. I love th bigger screen and the 3.5mm jack (i can listen to music or watch a movie while charging my phone ) I am wondering if i should go for the TP2, but it's really missing a Radio and a 3.5mm jack (which I will miss when my battery is low)... then again, the TV out is pretty tempting... IT's hard to decide...
I own a Blackstone and a Kaiser and I think that could be interesting to give the first impression that I have of the phone compared with Blackstone. I compare with a Blackstone in his maximum speed with original rom and after using several custom roms (dutty etc)
Warning: this is simply a quick test of features as I have the phone a few hours. I could be wrong in some of the opinions.
Speaker: very disappointing. We were told that Rhodium has two speakers and it is very loud for free hands calls. The reality is that the speaker has the same volume than the Blackstone. Kaise, Blackstone and rhodium have good quality in the speakers, better than average. It is odd that it is the same quality and there is no evolution.
Responsiveness: I feel it more responsive than Blackstone
Video player: faster, less jerky playing videos
Camera: it is 3 megapixels instead 5. But in low light conditions it is a very good camera phone when Blackstone is rubbish (slow and blurry). In general super responsive. I’m surprised.
Photo navigation: feels faster navigating the pics and more responsive
GSM reception: similar reception than Blackstone, that it is not great really.
Zoom bar: ok feature, nothing great but the fact that doing zooms in Blackstone is a lot of time unresponsive this is a cool difference
Keyboard: the best ever. Simply great and a lot faster than on screen keyboards. The only point is if you really need a keyboard. For small amount of text the on screen keyboard of Blackstone is enough.
Weight: you feel the phone. Blackstone is so thin that you don’t feel it. Not big problem but something to have in mind.
Sunlight: visible under sunlight. Blackstone is not visble under sunlight. Really nice.
Software: because the last custom roms of Blackstone have copied a lot of the features of rhodium there is not a lot new there but I have spotted a brand new Bluetooth manager (very cool) and perhaps there are more stuff there.
Style: better looking than blackstone because looks and feel more like a luxury object. You need to use to understand what I mean. The quality of how the phone is done and feels is stunning.
Battery: longuer battery life than blackstone, around 25%. It feels than never goes down.
In general Rhodium feels like a evolution rather than a revolution from Blackstone: A better phone but you should no change to it except if you need the keyboard. I would have been happier if the speaker was what was supposed to be.
For anybody that has not a Blackstone this phone is simply great. Nearer to the responsiveness of a iphone (not quite it yet) and with some features that iphone hasn’t (stereo Bluetooth, keyboard, more resolution etc)
It sounds like it really is a good phone then, but I think the point of having 2 speakers was for better sound quality not louder, but then again im not sure, but on a blackberry pearl with 2 speakers music sounds a lot better than on a kaiser, and better than on some laptops, and it has 2 speakers so im hoping the touch pro 2 will be even better than the pearl's sound is.
without any doubt it has no more quality and it is no louder. Initially I was confusing and thinking that I was mssing something, for example an option that I need to activate or whatever. But there is nothing more than the blackstone speaker quality. The only different thing is that it has a button to deactivate the mic in the back.
Has the Blackstone have stereo speakers then? cause if not, there has to be a quality diffrence when playing stereo music (set sound options to stereo in coreplayer)
Also, the blackstone is a multi media phone and I suspect it has a pretty good speaker.
The speakers for the TP2 are probably optimized for speech and not for music. At least you would think, it being a bussiness phone

GSM, there is no music radio.
also I have added this point to the list;
Sunlight: visible under sunlight. Blackstone is not visible under sunlight. Really nice.

It has two speakers but as I said there is no difence of quality with Blackstone. If they are stereo or not is not relevant as the quality is not that great and they are too near to notice the stereo. This doesn't mean that the speaker is bad compared to other phones. It simply means that it is not better than blackstone and this product was suppose to have the dual speakers as a diferenciated selling point.

thats disappointing because a blackberry pearl with 2 speakers plays music VERY good and the bass is so good on the pearl it is almost shocking, I thought that HTC would top that cause they make better quality phones

yes it is for sounds quality and as a blackstone owner I think the quality is far better than the blackstone.
When you said that the video playback is not jerky.
1. What codec movie are you playing?
2. What resolution size?
3. Which player did you use?
4. Did you need to re-encode your movies to play on the Rhodium?
5. Are the pictures in sync with with the sound?
I play a lot of videos on my HD and I would like to know if I can play videos without encoding all my movies.
When you place the phone down with the screen tilted, the speakers are on the bottom, right? How does affect the sound coming out of the speakers? Does it get blurred?
What is the speed of files transfers from your PC to the Rhodium? Is it faster than the HD?
Has they fixed the thread SMS? On the HD, when you use thread messaging, the on screen keyboard hides the entry box. You had to hide the keyboard and then show it again to show the entry box so you know what you are typing. I know the Rhodium has a keyboard, but what if you use the on screen keyboard to send SMS.
Thanks in advance for your answers, I am still waiting for the Rhodium to come out here. Can't wait to found out. Cheers!
Maybe I am missing something but I have a Tilt / Kaiser and a relative just got the Fuze / TP1. I only messed around with the Fuze for a few hours but I found the Tilt to have a higher quality, and louder, speaker. For those w/ a TP2, how does the speaker compare to those (I've never used a Blackstone)?
About the video player questions:
I was using core player. Perhaps I have been unlucky but I have been unable to get blackstone playing smoothly movies. I was trying mainly podcast from itunes that didn't have really too much resolution. But even them were jerky.
This phone doesn't have the same problem but I have not tried higher resolutions. I'm nearly sure that will fail in high res as the phone is not that different.
I didn't encode again. The sound was on sync. To be honest Blackstone plays videos worse than kaiser, except if you encode them again.
It is a lot more confortable to see videos in a table with rhodium compared with blackstone because the tilt screen. With blackstone I was forced to hold it with my hand or to fight with the phone trying to place it tilted with some object as support. The speaker is in the botton and the sound it is ok. Obviously would be better in the front.

I had the kaiser also. The speaker of the kaiser is similar to blackstone and rhodium. It is disapointing how little has evolved this part of the phone. kaiser had a loud speaker but I was specting something better now.
Photos are not too bad, instead i find video has a good quality

not bad. I would really appreciate if you could take some video and pictures when its is darker outside so we can really so how bad/good it looks in those conditions.
Ok asap i'll take some shots in the dark, but without flash i don't expect a great result.
I thought the quality is bad or maybe I'm so used to take a snapshot with a digital camera
I have a few photos on my blog with the phone taken inside my bedroom and the quality is quite grainy (low light conditions)
Yes, me too, i've a Lumix
But quality video are better than HTC HD or previous
the quality is VERY bad.... you can see some photos taken with my kaiser... a two year old phone.... they are better than those on tp2...

Well I also had a Kaiser and now a Tp2 since yesterday and I find the quality of the Tp2 pictures alot better then the Kaiser ones. But the most important part is, that the camera doesn't lag like the one on the kaiser. My Kaiser oney were horrible.

Hello. I used to have a htc hd but it was stolen. i was considering getting the tp2 but its not out here in the us yet so I got the n97. Its a cool phone but I wanted to know how does it compare with the tp2. I also wanted to know how the camera and video quality compare to the nokia because the nokia has great quality in those areas.
Also, I wanted to see if anyone knew how the internet speed compared with other browsers. The browser on the hd was great and plenty fast... At least until I compared it to a ipod touch and it smoked the speed of opera on wifi. Basically, I wanted to know if this is just a htc hd with a keyboard or is the internet and ui any faster. Thanks for any input!
Hmm, sound like a McD fan come to Burger King asking how Burger King taste like (or vise versa),
Please feel free to check out other post on "Asked Owners TP2 questions" You may find why people pick TP2 :> compare to other like phone like iphone, etc.
Good luck with your finding

I live in the UK and have just picked up the TP2 following having the N97 for a few days. I would say that the TP2 beats the N97 in pretty much every area, except in the camera department. The only other thing that I miss from the N97 is 3.5 headset jack and its 32gb of memory.
I also really struggled with the N97 keyboard.. it was just not up to the job and compared to the TP2, well the TP2 keyboard is just 'wow'.
I've been away from WM for a year, and was, at first hesitant at going back there, now I'm glad I made the change. This site is just awesome, and I've been tapping away playing with the different settings and customizing the phone to my own requirements... having come from the iPhone, to the G1 and then the N97, the TP2 is just the best for having a poke around and making changes.
I sold my n97 after two days with it.
And I have to agree with krowboi that TP2 beats n97 in every aspect expect camera.
The n97 is not well polished enough software wise, and the hardware is totally awful.
The one I had, had a camera lens cover flaw as the cover will scratch up the lens when you open and close it too much. The n97 keyboard is a joke, the buttons are too small and the d-pad takes up too much space. And there is no dedicated number rows like on the TP2.
Tp2 is way smoother in terms as software, as it doesn't even seem like it is WinMO anymore. I had more lag and trouble using the n97, the widgets in the home screen is a complete gimmick. Besides not having the 3.5mm jack ,and a dedicated camera shutter, TP2 is one of the best phones i have used ever.

Thanks
Thanks for the input guys. Im leaning towards the tp2 but I still commend nokia for trying to put everything but the kitchen sink in their phones. HTC makes it so hard to choose between their devices. If you want a mediocre camera with no 3.5 port, get the tp2. If you want a better camera with a 3.5 port but no video out or keyboard, get the HD. I just wish they would release a tp2 with decent camera quality, 3.5 jack, and decent video recording. All the nokia phones have had vga 30 fps recording for over 2 years and even the ipihone has caught up. I know its not good to buy a phone based on the camer capabilities but it just pisses me off when they advertise a 5mp or 3.2mp camera that has no flash and crappy quality.
the Tp2 produces pretty decent pictures in good lighting conditions...the video playback is also better than that of the n97.
there are many codecs for tp2 which can play a lot of videos that the n97 dont.
The camera is the best part of the N97 but the camera lens cover is scratching the lens of the camera. Head over to www.thenokiablog.com and look at what it is doing to his pictures.
Nokia - it's many years since they were "modern" and had good functionality.
Anyone having issues with poor photo quality? My Fuze used to take rather sharp pictures and with an extra 1.2 MP I just figured the Tilt 2 would be the same, but my pics are very poor.
The first two attachments are with the Tilt 2.
The third attachment is the fuze.
The camera on the TP2 works better when there is a lot of light. No fix as-of yet.
There were some changes that were done to the first Tilt that helped, but don't try those on this phone.
Yeah it will be interesting to see if anything comes around. I noticed the Tilt 2 has a clear cover over the lense while the Fuze didn't. I pulled off the back cover and shot some pictures....didn't notice any improvement.
I'm going to play with some settings and see if there is some default setting that is running interference.
