Phone band options - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Can someone take a screenshot or list the options for the drop downs under the Band tab in Phone settings for a US TP2?

As far as I know the list is always the same and is Hardcoded in Windows Mobile.
Doesn't mean anything really.

GSM Frequeny

I have a Orange SIM card which I got in Israel, I am now in Canada and that SIM works fine on my friends Nokia 6600, but when I try to use it with my XDA IIs I can't find any networks or anything. I am guessing its the GSM frequecy although the phone supports all of them. Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get the SIM to work here? Does anyone know how to manually select a GSM frequency?
XDA IIs
ROM Version: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.15.00
Protocol Version: 1337.45
Hello psytech,
I believe you're roaming. Sometimes, you really cannot just plug your sim card then voila its working. If you are roaming, most of the time you really have to manually select the network.
anyway, i'm currently using windows mobile 2005, and no longer using windows mobile 2003 SE. i hope i could still help you or atleast you can see the pattern on how to do it.
here what you do:
1. click on the signal strength icon (the icon located on the upper right most portion of your screen just beside the speaker icon)
2. a dialogue box will appear with a clickable 'settings' button (located on lower left part of the dialogue box.), click the 'settings'
3. you will then see 3 tabs on the bottom part of the screen, 'phone', 'services', 'network'. click on 'network'.
4. you should find something like 'find network' button there, then just but before you click on it, choose 'manual' for network selection.
the rest is self explanatory, i hope i was able to help you. cheers!
You say your orange sim works fine on your friends nokia but does not work in your IIs.
Is it possible that your IIS device is sim locked as in will only work on the O2 network in the country you got it from.
If so unlock it via wiki (link in sig)
not it
I forgot to mention that the SIM worked fine in Isreal, my original SIM is orange (I do have an account with) I just can't get support cause I didn't buy the phone from them (capitalists).
About the network search. Thats what I've been doing for the last couple of days but I can not find ANY networks at all. which is what leads me to believe that its a GSM frequency problem.
What happens if you put your friends sim in your phone
GSM in Canada is generally 1900 http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_ca.shtml
doesn't work either
My friend's SIM doesn't work on my phone either. If canada is 1900, how can I make sure that my phone is currently using 1900. (I know it supports it, but how do I actually see that its actually scanning with it?)
What happens if you go to Settings->Phone->Network and then change Network Selection to Manual.
You should then get a list of networks. This will list all networks even if you cannot connect to them.
[edit] This has already be suggested earlier in the thread
If you do get some networks then the only reason that I can think of that you are not connecting is that under Prefered Networks you have a network selected that your carrier does not have a roaming agreement with.
Check your provider's website to see who they have agreements with.
no networks
My provider (Orange) has agreements with Rodgers, but my problem is that I am not listing ANY networks, I tried manual and even added the Rodgers network to my favorite networks, but when I try to search for networks I can't find any, I just get a blank window. This is very odd to me and I've never heard of anyone with that problem.
Like I've mentioned before, I updated my windows to TuMa 1.4 and my radio to 1.1.15. If there's anything else I need to do or anything I may not have done when I updated my network please tell me.
btw when I installed that TuMa windows I change my ID thingy to Tmobile.
Problem solved
Attenttion everyone:
It has come to my attention that there is a problem in the Band Selection CAB when it comes to certian cellular providers.
The problem so far appears on a Cellular One network that only supports 850Mhz. When the North American Option is choosen in the Band tab, the phone can not find a network to register on. I'm not quite sure why this happens yet, but there is a solution to fix.
http://relaysgoldens.com/sx66/ext_roms/BandSelect-fix.CAB
By installing this CAB, it provides a fourth option on the band tab, "Reset Value to Zero".
By selecting this option, the phone will be reset to it's default state, and will work normally.
I've trapped this as a bug in the 1.40.124 extrom and will be working to figure this out.
Note: the band selection setting is persistant, and will not be reset even if you downgrade the ROMs on the phone. If you are experiencing this problem, the ONLY way to reset the value is to use the CAB above.
-Chris
P.S. I've also updated the 1.40.124 RAR file on the website to include the updated bandselect CAB.

At&t temoraly RAT removal

I just play with my S3 I747 and find out how to temporaly remove RAT restriction.
Click phone then punch code : *#197328640# ->Umts->Debag Screen->Phone Control->Network Lock->Rat_Free_Supporting ON
After you click this you see " Now RAT Free Supporting". Click back button and try setting radio by pressing *#2263#.
RTA will lock back after restarting.
could you explain what "RAT restriction" is and what removing it will provide?

Here is a thread that talks about RAT restrictions. It appears to have to do with restricting access to certain bands, but I am swimming in waters that are deeper than my skills will allow.

I gonna do a run for this later today to see if it will actually work for allowing band selection and sticking.
It seemed to work for me, but it's only been a couple of minutes so far after turning off LTE. BTW, the first menu is "UMTS", not "Units".

Any suggestions on how to make these changes permanent without rooting?
Since there is now a known code to lift restrictions until reboot, I hope some dev will figure out a way on stock based roms (both stock and mods), as well as AOSP based, to make it permanent. I have tried AOKP and CM10 in hopes the LTE and 2G toggles would work but no dice with AT&T SGS3.

Given the issue at hand, it is most likely a deeply embedded setting that will not be available to standard user base (non rooted), henceforth root access or even on a programming level will be needed to make the necessary changes. How the changes will be made available, if it is done, will depend on what was needed to make it permanent. This raises the question of where is this restriction coded into the AT&T SGS3. Is it firmware, ROM, SIM related, Radio? Seriously doubt it is hardware itself since there are ways to get around the restriction.

Testing this method now. So far I am running on 2G. I will give it at least a couple of hours and will update this post accordingly.
Update: I was messing around and decided to save this USSD (the official name of these secret dialer codes) in my contacts. From dialer you can start pressing *#1 and when it appears just press it. This gives quick access should you need to change radios often. I also want to add that instead of going back into *#2263# you can also select the band from *#197328640#. If you want to change it immediately, then once you get the confirmation "Now RAT Free Supporting" press the menu key on the left of the Home button. Select back and repeat again to go back again. Then, instead of choosing Network Lock choose Network Control-->Band Selection. This takes you to the same menu that *#2263# does and you can select accordingly.
@norbarb...perhaps you can update your OP to reflect that you can stay within the original selection instead of *#2263# and just go back twice to access the band selection. It is just one more way of doing things.
I also did the test of rebooting my phone. As mentioned by norbarb, if you have rebooted the RAT restriction is back in place. Regardless of which option you take to the band selection it will show RAT restriction until you follow the OPs steps again to remove restriction. Have not found a way for permanent removal of the restriction yet (I am optimistic and really want this permanent so I will look very hard to find a solution.). Also when I rebooted I had GSM 2G only selected prior and I kept the option upon reboot so only the RAT restriction is reset...not the network band settings.
Update 2: After 4 hours I am still on 2G Edge. I am in a very good LTE location so this is definitely the most promising outlook. I have found that I despite my love for the look of AOSP roms, the inability to turn on 2G at all will keep me with TW for now. Thankfully I do not mind the look of TW and with root, I can kill the Bloatware. I will look at all of the options in the *#197328640# menus and see if there is anything that may can be applied for permanent access. I also wonder if the secret to overriding the lack of options for network choices in *#*#4636#*#* will be here as well as this would more preferable to shut down LTE only.

Isn't the problem with doing this, say if you disable LTE and only select HSPA, it wont go to any 2G networks if you are out of coverage. Because its not on 'automatic', its on HSPA. So if you are out of a service zone of HSPA, then you dont have anything to fall back to.
If only there was a way to disable LTE, and use the other networks 'automatically'.

That is the problem. However, AT&T in their infinite focus on trying to force users to their networks of choice has purposely had the ability to do network selections disabled. Under normal circumstances in android devices the option of network selection is under settings and mobile networks option. This is removed I am sure at AT&T's request. The other way to access this is to use USSD *#*#4636#*#* in dialer and select "Device Information" which will give you an option to choose a network preference. While the USSD works the option to select network preference does not work.
At least with the option to unlock RAT and using USSD *#2263#, it gives some sort of ability to choose a network. For me this is perfect since I want the 2G only due to poor 3G and LTE signals at work. However you are right that it is not convenient if you just want LTE off. For the moment there is no known way to obtain this option on the AT&T SGS3.

Yep. I also think it's something to do with AT&T network setup. Because on AOSP ROM's we can't toggle LTE either. But the same ROM on a Canadian model phone will work just fine.
Even though the iphone has an LTE toggle. At least I read somewhere that it does.

It has nothing to do with the network setup...it is the carrier forcing restrictions on their customers. I have had three other android phones (including my wifes) in the last three years. All of them were restricted from choosing the network from stock rom. The moment I uploaded a ROM such as CM or other AOSP Roms I was magically able to do a network select. I even had to Windows phones (6.1 and 6.5) and both of them were stripped but with some registry edits I was able to add the option back to select between 3G/2G and 2g only. It is AT&T's way and they are notorious for it.
On a side note, I would not be surprised if AT&T is the primary corporate network that pushed for this network SIM lock ruling by the Congressional Librarian. Of all the carriers they have the most to lose.

I have been testing this for the last 4 hours and it does seem to work. Went to 2g only area and it switched perfectly to 2G and reverted back to 3g when I left the area. However I am not able to do GSM ONLY (2G only) using this method. You will have to follow the instructions on this thread for that.

It could result in battery savings and reduced dropped calls. For instance, I am often in and out of areas with little to no bandwidths under LTE. At default, my phone would always looking for an LTE signal which means my battery takes a pounding. By having my phone only look for 2G/3G, I do not take as large of a battery hit. Besides that, LTE does consume more power. For the most part I leave my phone with LTE off because the data speed is not crucial for me. At home I have a really fast WiFi network so it is better to be on it anyway while at home.

OK Thanks. But under Settings/More Networks/Mobile Networks/Network Mode there are 13 "band" combination choices. Do those choices not provide what you''re looking for (i.e.2G/3G)?
I've never changed mine, so I'm curious

[Q] Service Menu Help

IAnyone happen to know the default *#2263# Service Menu settings on the i317, and/or how to restore them to default???
I'm experiencing some network issues...drops...no signal...etc - and so in reviewing other threads I adjusted a few, which didn't make it better.
I set gsm, lte and wcdma were set to "all" or "automatic" in the Service Menu...but signals are still not good.
If I set to default, I will leave them alone
Does any changes you make to that menu stay saved on the device? I'm thinking at&t locked down that menu back with the radio/modem released with 4.1 roms.
Try *#*#4634#*#* then Device Information. You can select the band you want and it seems to work.
I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
I'm glad. Be careful in those menus -- you can do some unintended damage.

[Q] Select LTE frequency band manually

Hello,
Before buying this ZenFone2, I had a Samsung S4, which had a secret menu that could be accessed through the phone dialpad to allow viewing and selecting frequency bands.
I would like to know if there is a similar test menu on the ZenFone2 that will allow me to manually select which LTE frequency band the phone is forced to use?
Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not quite what I'm looking for. I want to manually select the frequency band, not just choose LTE.
Here is a screenshot of what that looks like on a Samsung phone:
I am sure that I have seen info on this for ZF2, but now I can't find it....
I hope that by bumping this thread someone who knows will shed some light, obviously it won't allow us to select a band that is not enabled, but at least seeing which bands are enabled in a particular phone would be good!

Device Info
Battery Info
Useage Stats
WiFi Info
But I cannot see anywhere in these options that tells me which bands are enabled.

How do you set a custom APN?

I just got a brand new unlocked HTC 10 today straight from HTC.com. My cellular carrier is Red Pocket Mobile - an AT&T MVNO.
I connected the phone to WiFi and applied the system update for Nougat. I'm trying to set my APN for Red Pocket and it's forcing me to pick a carrier from a list that doesn't include Red Pocket. I select AT&T to get passed this and it allows me to add my APN settings. It won't let me actually switch to that APN though. There's a lock icon next to the AT&T settings and it doesn't seem to want me to change.
I've never seen this behavior on an Android phone before. Is this something new for Nougat? Is there something simple I'm missing here?
Thank you for any assistance
PS: See the attached screenshot. Notice that there's no radio button for me to click on next to the APN I've entered.
The answer is you have to select "US Travel SIM" from the list of carriers for it to allow you to switch APNs. Of course I figure it out minutes after asking for help.. :silly:
In my defense, it's not real obvious.
EDIT: I am so confused. I selected US Travel and input all the APN data. It doesn't allow me to select it now. It allows me to when I don't fill it out entirely though.
EDIT 2: The instructions I have from Red Pocket instruct me to set APN Type to: Default, mms, supl It seems like putting this in disallows me from using the APN for some reason. I hope it'll work without this setting.
