I saw this thread that someone had posted, about wm, But i Can't find the registry edit on my phone!..
Hi there,
This topic is about my experience of configuring a-gps manually with a French operator. This may help others.
I installed a few day ago the last french official HTC ROM (see here)
My Diamond is SFR branded (French Vodafone), and after upgrading from the native SFR ROM to the HTC one, I felt a slowdown to get a good GPS signal for the apps I use: Googlemaps and iGo8. The signal also seemed less accurate.
I decided to investigate this way.
First of all, some elements that may be obvious for most of you, but reminding them does not hurt:
A-gps is a system that enhances GPS performance, by connecting to an a-gps server. As a matter of fact, this server makes use of cellular network signal to locate you faster. For further informations, see Wikipedia a-gps article.
AFAIK, a-gps is different from Quick GPS (see here) In particular, config values for a-gps and Quick GPS are located in different registry keys on Diamond.
Now let's get deeper into a-gps:
You can, once again AFAIK (and you'll correct me if I'm wrong ), use two kinds of a-gps server:
Your mobile vendor's server (i.e. HTC)
Your operator's server
I remembered that on some phones (at least Nokia N95), you have to define manually your a-gps server when using SFR network.
For Nokia, the problem is that the port used by the vendor's server is blocked by SFR WAP connection.
This is not the case of HTC a-gps server, since using HTC rom does not inhibit a-gps: it only seemed slower to me than with my SFR rom.
Here are the registry parameters for a-gps, on the original HTC ROM:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
"EnableAGPS"=dword:00000001
"ServerPort"=dword:00001C6B
"ServerIP"="10.1.101.63"
"QosPerformance"=dword:00000059
"QoSAccuracy"=dword:00000032
"TimeBetweenFixes"=dword:00000001
"NumberFixes"=dword:3B9AC9FF
"GPSMode"=dword:00000002
I guess "10.1.101.63" is the IP address of an HTC's a-gps server (?!)
I then downgraded to native SFR ROM, and here was the same key:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
"ServerURL"="geoloc2.sfr.fr"
"GPRSConnection"="WAP SFR GPRS"
"Network"="WAP SFR GPRS"
"EnableAGPS"=dword:00000001
"EnabledPrivacyMethod"=dword:00000000
"CloseConfirmMsgTime"=dword:0000003C
"PrivacyMethod"=dword:00000000
"EnableLocInfo"=dword:00000001
"ServerPort"=dword:00001C6B
"QosPerformance"=dword:00000059
"QoSAccuracy"=dword:00000032
"TimeBetweenFixes"=dword:00000001
"NumberFixes"=dword:3B9AC9FF
"GPSMode"=dword:00000002
As you see, the server is defined with its URL, "geoloc2.sfr.fr" (known as one of SFR's a-gps servers), and some parameters are different.
Of course, you have to replace "WAP SFR GPRS" by the network connection you want to use.
I upgraded to HTC ROM again, and set the operator's rom values.
Now I've got the feeling that it's harder, better, faster, stronger (and more accurate).
By the way, QuickGPS is configured in the following key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS].
Note that, on SFR branded rom, this key does not even exist.
but i can't find that on incite.. any ideal?
You need a 3rd party program like this one to edit your registry:

(I apologize ahead if this may be "common knowledge" for WM-I'm on a huge catch up on the WM platform and still learning)
For the past few weeks I've gone through Exchange mail hell and various e-mail services and eventually settled on BlackBerry Connect. One of the issues I run into on various cooked ROMs is whether it's hex edited to CE 5.1 (a many thanks JJ on BE) but this is easy to work with. The major problem is a good portion of my 8525 is accessing cingular's APN and not Blackberry's.
The question is is WM capable of simultaneious data connections to both APNs: cingular (US) and blackberry.net or is there a software solution to do this?
There was one case that I've found throughout searching a few too many threads where the member claimed to be able to surf the internet and check e-mail on WMXL .20 but I had no luck on it.
Thanks to everyone.
I am using the BB connect and have had both APN showing up in the "bubble". I wanted to find out if I could surf using the BB APN only as is done on say the Pearl. Or would I need the APN from the cell provider as well. Presently both are on the Sim so I cannot chk.
Want to remove the GPRS APN that I used initially. Will I be able to surf the net using the BB APN.
Interesting that you were able to get both connections in the "bubble" but are you able to use data from the carrier APN while still tranferring data from BB's APN and you're curious on whether we can cut our data plans and move to BIS and be ok? I was wondering the same if so and if I knew that BIS on a non BlackBerry device would work, I'd just tell Cingular that I've got an 8800 and need BIS. Then the 8525 could access both internet and e-mail on one connection.
The thought does come up of whether 2G or 3G/HSDPA would still come in ok on a BIS plan on a 3G device but I would imagine that the speeds are independent of data plans and dependent on hardware only.
After extensive serching through the forum and the Wiki i was stumped as to why WLM was failing to sync.
all i could find were people asking if anyone new what the problem was and a whole load of replies that suggested they serched for the answer. The problem being there isn't (as far as i can tell) an actual answer to this issue.
This was my issue.
I upgraded to the newest version of LVSW and i couldn't get WLM to sync, it kept on saying that there was a problem with the service or i have not got good enough reception. this was incorrect as could use IE without a problem.
Many people said that this was because the Beta had expired..which it of course had, so i tried all the new versions, stand alone that LVSW posted with his new ROM, Tried BE 2.0 with the built in version. all with the same result. NOTHING!!!
Now i have found the problem i had and i hope that it will help with others problems
I used to put in my GPRS settings manually, but i decided to download a .cab file with the T-Mobile UK settings. and this was the problem. it was adding a proxy to the connection.
To rectify the situation i deleted the connection and put it back manually with the Following Settings.
Connection Name : T-Mobile GPRS
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
User: user
Password: one2one
and nothing else. (these are the only setting T-mobile CS gave me)
I now have a working copy of the new Messenger (No contact duplication) on my Vario II.
I hope this rather long winded post will be of help to some of you on the forum.

Yes I found this also. I kept getting the Out of range error message.
However, it's fine to have a proxy on Orange UK and is actually required for the 3G connection. The problem I had was with Active Sync - it kept adding my corporate proxy server name to the GPRS settings. Removing them allowed WLM to connect first time!

Eh? Are you sure? Seems plenty of people on here using Orange without a proxy set....
Just wondering, as I had been having problems, but not now, and I do have a proxy set, but ONLY in the WAP connection, not Orange Internet connection. Hmmm....

There were problems with the first t-mob uk cab posted, but someone put up a fixed version later on that I use without issues. Look about half way through in the UK operator cabs thread.
T-mob apparently use a transparent proxy, so no settings required.
Hi there (I'm in the UK)
it's an unbranded S620 brand new running WM5 (not interested in WM6). My SIM card is with T-mobile which works with my Pocket PC P3600. But I can't get GPRS to work with the S620. Could really use some help guys.
I've set up a GPRS data connection called "T-Mobile GPRS" and have entered the following details:
Access point = general.t-mobile.uk
username = user
password = one2one
I've deleted the Primary DNS, Secondary DNS (more on those later) and also the IP address.
I've activated the data connection (T-Mobile GPRS).
I've gone in to explorer and made the settings there, i.e.
highlighted "Automatically detect settings" and I've selected "WAP Network".
When I try to access the net via explorer I get the error "Your Internet connection is not configured properly. Please verify your settings in Data Connections".
I've checked and doubled checked and re-entered everything 5 times. No dice.
Note: when I go back to re-enter, the Primary and Secondary DNS fields have suddenly become populated with 0.0.0.0
Not sure if this is relevant!
Note: I can connect to the web if I use WiFi and also change the setting "Select Network" in I.E. from "WAP Network" to "The Internet". Which also begs the question, why doesn't this switch automatically? This is the first SP I've had. Ive always had Pocket PC which if you switched WiFi on and opened explorer it used WiFi. Seems a bit of a pain to have to change IE settings as well, unless I've got that wrong as well....
Anyway, I've called T-Mobile and apart from the above all they said is go to your local T-Mobile store and they will check your s/ware. The problem with this is that the store will want to stick their TMobile s/w on and I prefer the handset unbranded. As I explained above I've used the SIM in other unbranded devices before.
Any ideas?
I'm missing my news.bbc.c.o.uk!
Thanks
Change WAP Network to Internet.
BTW, WM6 is ways faster on the Excalibur.
Ka.
That's great it works!
I wonder why the T-Mobile website asks you to enter WAP Network?
By the way, in what regard is WM6 faster?
Download speeds or some other aspect(s)?
Thanks
General responsiveness of the UI is (in my humble opinion) faster with WM6 than with the shipped WM5.
I had an Excalibur for roughly two months. Got it with the shipped WM5, then installed the TMo Wm6 as soon as it was out and was impressed by it (after some tweaking to remove the TMo stuff I didn't need).
Decided to buy the Vox as the keyboard was sliding, shipped with WM6, more compact and nobody would say anymore:"Oh... Cool!!! You have a Blackberry! You must either be important or want to show off!"
Sold the Excalibur, bought the Vox. Vox's WM6 is not even comparable to Excalibur's... Don't ask me why but it find it quite slower. But now I'm getting OT.
Ka.
I have an unlocked HD2 with an o2 sim. When I try to change GPRS connection settings I cannot select any network other than the original T-Mobile. The auto option is disabled. I'm not fussed about the T-Mobile splash screen but I do need to be able to connect to the o2 network (GRPS). Phone / text is fine. Any suggestions? I would like to avoid flashing the rom if poss. Roger
I have a HD2 locked to T-Mobile, all of the internet settings are obviously pre-configured for that network.
I'm not sure how to change them but I'm pretty certain you can get O2 to send you the GPRS the settings directly to the handset as long as they have the device or they may not support it.
T-Mobile
Unfortunately that isn't possible (HTC & o2 advised). Also there is no option on the connectivity wizard to update the list of telephone providers (that surprised HTC!). Presumably there is a regkey missing / overidden. Any ideas out there?
Rog
i got the same problem. theres no alternative to write a new rom to your hd2.
after that i could easily download the o2 settings...
theres a thread somewhere here to show you how its done
good luck.
Had no problem with the dutch firmware.
are you sure that you have 3g coverage where you live?
Don't forget to enable "wcdma only" from call settings. It might help.
Hmmm .... I do not have any problems with Diamond, I'm close to BTS with signal level 5 in 3G. So I think there is something with that....
Problem is with Samsung only. Sipdroid is showing more than 95% of lost packets and about 10% late. I have to test this with another firmware... maybe this is a problem.
Thank for suggestion with the change of GSM band - I did this - the same.
PS: no problems with on lin eradio e.g.....
OK - I changed firmware, radio, modem... nothing.
Then I made some additional test using sipdroid on the alternative port - and bang... clean sound... no dropping packets.
It is looking that vodafone.nl is filtering communication on SIP ports like 5060 - they have in rules that voip is not allowed.
The thing is that before with my old contract it was working really perfect without any missed packets.
Question is how it is possible that on HTC Desire in Vodafone as well everything is working fine.
Maybe they have me on the list.... black...
interesting!
which port did you use? i should keep it in mind in case telfort does something similar
I have used port 36999.
The problem is that this port is supported only on pbxes.org - which is not perfect as the SIP provider for my another account.
So now I'm trying to find a good solution - maybe to use siproxd to forward connection to the SIP provider on normal port (5060).
Will see if this si working. For now Vodafone is blocking the SIP and VoIP (what is in their regulation).
I just did a mistake signing contract extension with them. Should choose another provider....
