Hi Guys, my first post here.
Just wanna say thanks to all the contributors/posters and this is the best forum for touchpro 2 configuration.
Last night, i spent 4 hours trying to figure out how to configure the Internet Tab on the Tmobile TP2.
After hours of searching through the forums, i finally figure out what needs to be done. However, i bet alot of people have trouble looking for these links.
So i decided to put all i had learnt in one thread and hope everyone can follow this.
Unfortunately due to me dozing off and my pc shutting off, i was unable to save all the posts and their contributors, so I apologize for not giving any credit but I assure you that i am not taking any credit for this post.
All Tmobile TP2s comes loaded with IE and Opera. I prefer Opera myself and I want Internet Tab to launch everything in Opera.
This is what i did...
1) Download Registry Editor (you can google it or go to this linklink
2) (this was quoted from the thread)
navigate to HKCU/Software/HTC/Manila
change value in DefaultBrowserIsIE from "1" to "0"
change value in Internet.SetOperaForeground from "0" to "1"
Registry Edit tutorial thread
For Internet Tab Configuration.
This was a little tricky for me, but looking through the posts helped clued me in on what to do.
1)You need to find a xml file located in the following:-
\Application Data\Manila\InternetPortal-en-us.xml
Some people may able to edit this file on their phone, but i prefer to make a copy and put it on my pc so that i have a few backups.
2)Make sure that the Readonly option has been unchecked for this file.
3) You will see the following when you first open the file for edit. (use notepad)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<InternetPortal>
<BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
<IncludeUserFavorites>False</IncludeUserFavorites>
<Banner
DefaultImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\banner.qtc"
SelectedImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\banner_selected.qtc"
Text="Launch Browser"
NavigateUrl="http://m.web2go.com"
UrlText="web2go"
Width="480"
Height="215" />
<OperatorLinks>
<Link
Text="YouTube"
Executable="\windows\youtube.exe"
ImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\youtube.qtc" />
<Link
Text="CNN"
NavigateUrl="http://tmobile.cnn.mlogic.mobi"
ImagePath="\Windows\_Bookmark_icon.qtc" />
<Link
Text="ESPN"
NavigateUrl="http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/index?z=TM"
ImagePath="\Windows\_Bookmark_icon.qtc" />
<Link
Text="Facebook"
NavigateUrl="http://m.facebook.com"
ImagePath="\Windows\_Bookmark_icon.qtc" />
</OperatorLinks>
</InternetPortal>
4) Remove the line <BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
This will now launch the lower left Bookmarks and lower right browser in Opera. (this is only possible, if you have already edit the registry in the previous tutorial)
Replacing the tag <BrowserExe>\Window\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe> with <BrowserExe>\Windows\Opera9.exe</BrowserExe> only launches the "Earth" tab in Opera but the tabs will not be launched at all, not even in IE. Don't know why this happens. You can even edit the Banner tag so that it doesn't go to the web2go website by modifying the NavigateUrl to "" or whatever you want.
5) Adding/Removing the Push Tabs.
Look for the tag <OperatorLinks>. you will notice that the three "permanent" tabs are located here. You need to remove the tag <Link> in order to remove them
For example: I don't want the facebook Tab on this screen. So I remove the whole tag
<Link
Text="Facebook"
NavigateUrl="http://m.facebook.com"
ImagePath="\Windows\_Bookmark_icon.qtc" />
You can add more Tabs accordingly by following how the previous link tags are.
6) You can also use your opera bookmarks to show up on this screen by replacing/modifying this tag
<IncludeUserFavorites>False</IncludeUserFavorites>. Set the False to True, and you will now be able to use all your Opera Bookmarks on this tab. This does include the pre configured Tmobile links. I got around this by removing the Tmobile links or place them all in a new folder. This is easily editted by going through Opera Browser.
Opera Browser Configuration
Look for the following files in your TP2
\Windows\Opera9\opera.ini
\Windows\Opera9\opera1.ini
1) Allowing more browser tabs in Opera.
Open up opera.ini and look for "Maximum Allowed Tabs"
You can change 2 up to 17. I can't find the thread for this configuration.
2) I got rid of all the url references to tmobile and even made sure the regular options point to www.google.com so that the browser loads up faster.
I know there could be more configuration that i may not have found yet, but this is the most basic i could do get the Internet Tab working like how it was supposed or how i want it to be. Still can't figure out how to make Push Internet work however.
Please use this thread to post other threads or even new ideas on how to configure this tab.
Enjoy and good luck !
Great info here...I also spent a lot of time solving this problem too, but I found one other thing with my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 that's definitely important to note...

My phone definitely has this file. It also has the same file located at "\Windows\" with the same name as above, but also in: \Windows\27c65cbd_manila
After finally finding the registry key to disable IE from the internet tab, I methodically checked each of these files for which one my system was actually using...and it turned out to be the *_manila file.
Just to be thorough, I made sure to keep all copies on my phone identical, just to be safe, but this may be helpful if it still just doesn't work for some reason.
Thanks for the info guys, I will look into this as soon as I get my TP2 back up again.
This path doesn't exist on the TELUS version:
\Application Data\Manila\
Thanks a lot! These configs work really well!

Thanks !

Worked very good, thanks very much! Although, in this section: NavigateUrl="http://m.web2go.com"
UrlText="web2go"
I put Google for the UrlText and it didn't show up, oh well, I don't mind it too much.
Yeah that's strange.
I was able to put Launch Browser in the URL Text, and it worked....
As long as it is still launching google, that is all that matters right ? hehehe
Try a soft reset.... that may work. Or, go to another tab and then return to the Internet tab to get it refreshed from the XML that you had modified.

I put Google in mine and it worked like a charm. No reset required. I used Notepad on the PC side to do it.
If anyone is finding they can't see the file from Windows, go to your Folder Options and uncheck "Hide protected os files"
Thanks btong1978, this post was really helpful. I banged my head on this for days. It's crazy that T-mobile would believe that everyone would want to go to CNN and ESPN. No offense to fans of these sites, but I have better things to do with my mobile browser, like movie times and wikipedia.
Another tip for people using these instructions. Change
Width="480"
Height="215"
to
Width="240"
Height="107"
or even smaller to get more bookmarks on your screen. With Height="60" I was able to get 5 bookmarks to show beneath the logo without scrolling.
Also, the <IncludeUserFavorites>True</IncludeUserFavorites> works for IE as well, so change-away.

Oops, while the bookmarks will be launched in IE, they are actually managed in Opera. No biggie, at least I don't have to edit the XML file again.
WOW Thank you very much!!!

THanks for the compliment on your other post ! I was just as much frustrated on how to change the internet tabs. Good thing i was running high on energy drinks that night. LMAO.
the previous quote may be due to the reg edit that i posted earlier. I haven't tried this yet, but if you switched the values in these .....
change value in DefaultBrowserIsIE from "0" to "1"
change value in Internet.SetOperaForeground from "1" to "0"
It might end up taking the IE bookmarks instead. I don't know tho.
I also had a problem of the bookmarks launching in IE instead of Opera, but when i removed the line
<BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
It will launch the bookmarks on the tab in opera.
I also found another trick that if you make this line instead....
<BrowserExe>\Windows\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe> , it will launch the bookmarks in Opera if you didn't edit the registry just yet. However i can't verify this, since i made so many changes in the registry that i couldn't keep up with what changes i made.

I'm just saying that if the Telus version doesn't have IE as default, then there really shouldn't be any problem. But as the_sys0p said, it's really the manila file that determines all the defaults.
Thank you!
Thanks for this thread. Here is some related info that I got from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542113
How can i change the search engine in the internet tab?
Use a registry editor and add/modify the following key (the one below is the standard search engine - Google)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
"InternetSearchUrl"="http://www.google.com/m?source=mobilesearchapp&v=1.0&aq=f&q=%s"
I don't need the search bar in the internet tab, how can I disable it?
Use a registry editor and add/modify the following key (standard = "false")
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
"DisableInternetSearch"="true"
why the hell couldn't i find this post when I was trying all of this? I actually had like 4 different threads up that had all this info scattered. Anyway, I actually made a cab that'll do all of this.

I don't know why, but I'm unable to open the file on my PC, and I can't edit this on the phone. Can you help me with that? I opened OneNote on the phone, pasted the xml, did my changes on there, but have no idea how to change the xml file in the \Manila\ folder.
I'm pretty much stuck on this...
open the xml on your computer with Notepad. then move the file back to your phone through Active Sync

It won't let me access the xml on my computer. Notepad can't access it for some reason.
EDIT: Nevermind! I did a soft reset on my phone, resynced it to my computer and now I accessed it. Thanks for your contribution xnifex.
And of course, thank you very much btong1978!
Now is there a way to make Skyfire the default browser in the Internet tab? I'm starting to like it more than Opera.
Great Post!!
I used the info from MattandTracy to do a lot of tweaking, but the part I couldn't find out was how to change the Internet default browser.
I edited the .xml page to tell it to look for Skyfire, instead of IE (or Opera) and I set Skyfire as the default browser when it asked me to. I then customized the Internet Page (It's now the "InterWeb" page) and I customized the push pages and added one of my own. It still kept bringing up IE.
Thankfully, you identified where in the registry to go and stop this! Now, it brings up Skyfire, and I can go to whatever page I want to.
I also edited the other push pages using the .xml page, so that they go to the sites' actual mobile page, with no reference to T Mobile. Really speeds things up!
Thanks so much. You really helped me out.

Alrighty... First of all, which ROM are you using?
Well, no matter which ROM you use--you can access your homescreen options this way: Start -> Settings -> Home Screen -> scroll down to Background Image. When you get here, just choose which image you'd like to be the background/wallpaper. (before making these steps, you can search Google or Yahoo! images for whatever wallpaper you'd like) Once you've saved an image (preferrably .jpeg), use ActiveSync to place the file on your device. Click Explore button -> Windows Mobile Device -> Application Data -> Home (this is where you store downloaded homescreen images).
i am using kavana rickwyatt v20 thank you for such quick replys but i dont mean the background pictures but like new homescreens as in new paneling and everything. i should have said that in my first post sorry.
The Home screen is controlled with XML files which lets you specify the position of certain panels, etc. Here is a tutorial on modifying the file:
http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=916
If you have any specifics questions about that let me know.
thank's a lot and I am going to read through that tutorial when I get some free time for sure.
I have another question but I don't want to open a new thread so I will ask it here. Are there any program's that have city map's? I need some map's of my city on my phone (I am a delivery driver).?

If I'm not mistaken, Windows Live has mapping and directions within it. It should already be a part of your Windows Mobile 6.1. Just look in the programs under the 'Start' menu.
I you dont want all the baggage of Windows Live, which permanently gloms all over your phone. just install "Windows Live Search". I think it is a better, leaner choice unless you already use Live Spaces and/or Hotmail.
I was wondering if you guy's knew of DLable maps because I don't want to rack up my data charges on the road?
I have the Kavana 6.1 rom... A link to open up Windows Live is built into the panels... Isn't there another option for that panel? I'm new to this, so bear with me please...

Look at a sticky named CHome configurator
That is a program that you can use to customize the panel.
Thanks, I'm working with that as well... I just remember when I was setting up my phone that there were two ways to set up the Windows Live panel. I don't see the option in the Configurator however.
Oh, and I'm still trying to figure out what app you all use/recommend for editing .cpr files. Any help is appreciated..

well i just got back into the dash game after not having a dash for what seemed like forever. and i guess i figured i would just remember everything i knew before...well i was wrong so here goes with the noob questions

First off , welcome back to the dash!
Now to edit the my faves panel if I remember correctly, on the actual my faves panel, scrool right to page 6 and that should be the settings for my faves, and you should be able to edit them there.
Now to edit the icons on the panels , you have to edit the bronzeres.dll file on your windows directory, you need a program on your pc to view and edit .exe's and 'dll's (extension files) like PE Explorer. I can do this for you if you want, pm me if you want me to and I'll give you more details.
You can also check my new theme for dash using new WM 6.5 on my signature below.
glad you didnt flame me for the silly questions. i figured out how to add the contacts last night like 30 minutes after i posted that. i didnt realize it was as simple as just adding the phone number to the action url. i was ready to go in with total commander and so some serious work lol.
ill take a gander at your 6.5 theme, i got the 6.5 wait cursor and i like the look of that. and ill look into the PE to edit the .dll files.
thanks for the help!!

So I have no idea what the previous guy just posted.... I have the ATT Tilt 2 with Windows 6.5, and here's what I did.
Using PHM Registry Editor:
Goto: \HKCU\Software\HTC\Manilla
Modify: InternetSearchUrl
Original: http://us.m2.yahoo.com/w/onesearch?.tsrc=attosus&p=%s&first=1&submit=oneSearch
ModifyTo: http://www.google.com/m?client=ms-opera-mobile&channel=new&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&q=%s
The ModifyTo search string is basically what Opera uses when you do a search from it's search field.
Thanks, this is a handy mod.
thanks for the help guys.

dude your the man the reg hack worked awesome now i just wish it could be the full google and not mobile hmm?
So if you want, just goto www.google.com, search 'tmpString', copy the redirected address that it takes you to. From there, replace 'tmpString' in the address with '%s'.
well.. here:
ModifyTo: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=%s&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
EDIT: had to modify the link because my original was linked to iGoogle.
can some body please post up the verizon tp2 link or reg for the stock bing search google mobile sucks and i cant get the full version to pull up the search for me. thanks
help please!
NOTE!!!! Don't type in the link as you see it typed in this board! Type in the URL address based on what you see it linking to! This board interprets it as a url and shortens the actual string with the "..". Mouse over and copy the link or copy link to notepad to see what is really there.
Ok I must be missing this how do you find the Google search address for the search tab in touchflo?
I have the Verizon Imagio and changed InternetSearchUrl to "http://www.google.com/m/search?q=" no quotes of course. Works perfect. Thanks people!
So basically all this does is redirect you to the google search page? I was thinking it would take you to search results not the search page did I do something wrong?? (BTW the address isn't quite correct needs a forward slash in place of the question mark after the m couldn't figure that stuff out for the life of me lol)

I just looked through the user.hv file and found something interesting:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Browsui\Settings\Tabs]
"MaxAllowed"=dword:6
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\TabsManagement]
"MaxAllowedTabs"=dword:6
"LaunchTabPolicy"=dword:1
These entries set the limit for the tabs that can be used in IE9 on our Windows Phones. Maybe we could adjust the value of the entries and get more Tabs...
Sorry if this has been posted before. I searched for it and didn't find something, so I made a new thread. I'm gonna try to set another value for this entry and give you a feedback.
EDIT: Okay, I tried it and it doesn't work. It could be the case that more tabs just aren't possible or - and that's what I think - I missed something. If you Dev's are interested in this, I'll keep you updated. I'm new to cooking. Ohh the tabs reg key works. I've changed that key a long time ago... they just won't ALL appear on your screen. You have to close some tabs and you'll see the extra ones on the screen then. It will always show 6 at a time

Umm...How do you mean that? Changing that key didn't change something for me. I still can't add more than 6 tabs.
I think he means that you can not scroll down when adding tabs, but they are below the screen boundary so if you remove the top tabs you will see the ones that were hidden.
This registry key was discovered pre-Mango, but back then messing with it could freeze up the browser. No idea if that's still the case. I tried tweaking it, then left it alone after that.
Didn't freeze my HD7 on Mango
Hi,
Here I show you how to create custom local homepage for the stock web browser.
So, basically, when you start the web browser, it will load this custom web page.
This is very useful, for example: You can create quick shortcuts for all your frequent visit of websites.
(1) Download the attached "bookmark.zip" and put it in the a folder, for example \Download
(2) Extract the content, for example in \Download\bookmark
After this second step, you can access \Download\bookmark\bookmark.html
(3) Open the stock web browser, go to:
Settings --> General --> Set homepage
(4) Choose "Other"
(5) Set to:
file:///sdcard/Download/bookmark/bookmark.html
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
There you go!
You can modify the bookmark.html as you pleased.
bookmark.zip has been updated.
Disable page zoom added:
Remove the "initial-scale=1" in the bookmark.html as shown here:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=0"/>
There is already a most visited sites option in the browser so I'm not too sure why I would want to do this?
Admittedly this isn't really needed, but is quite cool. I've just started learning html/css. So I will have a play with it later.
Sent from a phone that is not running ICS
Because this is the fastest way to get all your favorite websites!
Start the web browser and it is all there, right in front of you ... With all the thumbnails, ready to visit
There, two clicks you got the page.
Even better, when you go back by clicking the back button, you will see all those shortcuts again
Efficient ... Fast ...
And ... You can customize the way you want!
On the other hand, your way is too slow.
You need to start the browser, long click the back button, click the most visited, and you might need to scroll ...

Incorrect. There is a 'most visited sites' homepage you can assign in the settings. Plus if you want to talk about efficiency for certain sites why don't you just add a bookmark widget to the desktop?
i will try this.thank you
Right, you right about that most visited as homepage ...
But, the order can change at any time depending on your frequent visit. Also, I dont like the white background that consume more battery power.
With my way, I can have fixed loaction of thumbnails which for sure easier to navigate.
And because of that, we can have flexibility to arrange the thumbnails the way we want
Bookmark widget ... problem is that I must swipe to that home, and I dont like to clutter my launcher! Dont forget that widget consume more memory and might slow down your launcher if redraw is required!
So, still, my solution is better, faster, more flexible

Alright you win . Have you tried allowing the table to use 100% instead of defining the number of pixels?

Hi,
See the attached screenshot.
Do you know how to format the <table> or use CSS so it will utilize the whole screen?
I set the <table> width to 720px but that does not help.
So, please please please ... if you are HTML/CSS expert ... help us!
Thank you

Is this what you mean???
<table> width 100% does not work.
But, I found it ... We need to prevent "zoom" which can be done using this:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=0"/>
bookmark.zip has been updated in the first post.

There is already a most visited sites option in the browser so I'm not too sure why I would want to do this?

Can I say what I want to say at here?
Updated, remove the "initial-scale=1" in the bookmark.html as shown here:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=0"/>
This will give you the correct view
