Better spell check? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

The spell check on the phone sucks! I want a spell check that would tell me the word is missed spelled with maybe red line under it or whatever when I text and send emails. I also don't want to add all the CAPS in I's, put ' in don't and CAPS in a letter after the periods. Is their a way for all that to automatically change after pressing space?
I don't know, I guess I'm so use to my Blackberry.

There's no spell checker in Windows Mobile.
There used to be an automatic grammar correction, such as didnt -> didn't (automatically adding the aphostrophe). But, HTC or T-Mobile removed that. Same as the automatic capitilazation. WinMo normally does something like this:
I am typing a sentence. It automatically capitalizes.
But then the Touch Pro 2 will do this, because they removed that feature for some reason:
i am typing a sentence. it automatically fails
So, lets go burn down HTC. Or, wait for the custom ROM's to come out.

I'm kind of new to HTC phones so I wouldn't know all that. Forget waiting lets just go burn down HTC!

Yep, I'm pissed at them. That was a good feature in Windows Mobile, but they somehow ****ed it up. And, I have a feeling they don't care about Windows Mobile anymore, they've moved onto Android.

I hope Windows Phone (WM6.5) is improved and gives us the basics that we need.

WinMo 6.1 already has the basics that we're talking about. Heck, WM6.0 had those basics!
It's all HTC or T-Mobile that goes to blame here. But we should be getting some custom ROM's soon, which means that we might get that feature back. I'm guessing that in less than a month, we'll see HardSPL up and running, and then custom ROM's being built.
I know you don't know what that means, lol, but basically, you'll be able to use a "Operating System" that was put together by a forum member, which is usually about 3x faster than the default operating system, and will give you more featues, like our better spelling, hopefully.

"missed spelled". Funny.
So what you're actually looking for is spell check, grammar & auto-complete all rolled into one by the sounds of it. I found when I'm using the physical keyboard only, and have XT9 enabled, my TP2 auto-capitalizes after a full stop (period). With the XT9, which seems to learn as you go, that is about as good as it gets.
I had auto cap after periods, and automatic contraction apostrophes on my Palm OS Treo, but found that it made me lazy going to a regular PC keyboard for the first 10-15 minutes of typing. I would forget, and evreything ended up being lowercase, and then I had to go back and correct it.
Hope this helps.

I think I will start typing on XT9. And for my "missed spelled" didn't need to edit since I thought you guys wouldn't do what you did. Typed all that on my TP2....misspelled!!!

Just change the keyboard setting in advanced config or under HTC Custome if you have it, select Cingular for ATT & Cignular or you lang if dif. I think this is like the 100th time this has been asked. Doesn't anyone use search?
Thanks Scrambler001, i am glad someone asked it, i am a newbie i tried a search, before asking but you was kind enough to still answer that other person. I have to sneak around work to use the cpu really so i never have a chance to actually sit and read. Thanks again, fixed...
i checked in the advanced config app, the only choice for keyboard layout is "english", still the same results. I dont have any HTC Customize apps or settings on my device either.

Well then just install HTC Custome if you need to. I thought all the options were available in Schaps rom though you might need to scroll up or down to find the Cingular one if thats what your looking for. Thats what I did when I installed his ROM.

This always works for me. Hope it helps.
I"m just wondering, did no one bother to look in the Schapp's 4.0 thread. I think it was asked about four times in there

You bet I even posted the answer there a few times already but the starter of this thread probably didn't go through the whole thread or search using a good key word like "keyboard" or some such. I think the total is more than 4 though and if you count the number of times it's been asked out of the thread well I run out of fingers and toes so go figure. LOL

How to turn off button enlargement

Sorry don't know how to call it, but I have installed a newer schaps firmware and now I have the following tool I want to get rid of.
When I press on the right corner on the G(PRS), volume etc buttons, they are enlarged in a separate window (text balloon?). This means every time I want to access the volume or messages I have to go through 2 steps instead of 1, and I cannot change the volume of my phone just by scrolling the wheel, now the enlargement comes forward. (sorry for my bad english).
Is it possible to turn off this thing?
Thanks in advance!

Sure, you can turn it off. Just go around somewhere in Start/Setting then you will see the menu enlargement icon to turn it on or off.
Ignore the guy above - he's just a smart arsed f***wit who either doesn't know what he's talking about or just simply cannot be arsed to read your question properly.

What you need to do is to fire up a registry editor (handily, there's one included) and go to HKLM\Services and find the LargeTitleBar key.

With all due respect to a senior member like you, i would like to tell you that whatever vichet007 has said is true and if you disable large start menu you can get rid of the bubble. So why unnecessary flame some guy who is trying to help.

Menu option
I'd like to know what setting lyhouth is talking about. I searched in settings and could only find large and small keys settings.
Quakie
Large Start Menu (and large Title Bar)
Having seen both functionalities (larger start menu as well as large Title bar bubble) as separate entities here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
i have concluded, that Schap's must have skillfully crafted one switch to simultaneously change the state of both settings.
This "Toggle switch" is found in:
Start -> Settings -> et voila "Large Start Menu"
While the larger style sure comes in handy for thumb use, it is a drawback of the large setting, that one cannot simply in- or decrease in call volume by simply using the scroll wheel but one has to remove the phone from the ear and set it manually via said big bubble.
Using the siple routine indicated above, one can decide for onesself, whether this feature combination caters to ones personal needs and preferences or not.
Being given the choice, along with the Advanced config tool et al. is what makes Schap's Roms so useful and great in my personal view. I must say I love them.
Cheers, Chris

Sorry Mr Senior Lordsmiff for this inconvenience. I just do hope that my contribution/response can help because I used to do this when I have this issue (if I can understand this issue). Please just ignore my post if you think it's not helpful or it's wrong because I am not an expert like you, Mr Senior. I spent time responding to this (using my limited knowledge as what you mentioned) because I do believe that people in this forum are helping each other if they think they can help.
Sorry for my bad English as well.
Hey come on you guys - don't be all up tight about this. It was tongue in cheek - highlighted by my use of stars instead of actually swearing. Everyone gets flamed occasionally, including me.
Suck it up and don't be such a bunch of girls.
Oh, and xda2jojo - next time you PM me to tell me not to use an inappropriate word, make sure I've actually used an inappropriate word.
The number of times I've spoken to flar and others in an attempt to become a mod and stop the people that are actually using bad language on here to each other and i get a PM reprimanding me for using stars in a tongue-in-cheek post??? Was there not enough smiley faces for you?
I apologise to lyhuoth for my abrasive sense of humour but that's what it was.
xda2jojo can f*** off and give me a free holiday then.
Well...we are all from different location, different culture with different sense of humor.
My co-mod including flar knows everything before i sent a pm to remind others.
Try to use again inappropriate word even using star, i'm gonna give you a permanent holiday.
I *really* can't believe that you're having a go at me because I'm censoring myself and not actually swearing...unbelievable.
With the personal attacks that go on around here all the time, I'm being censured for personal restraint during a tongue in cheek post.
It's obvious to me that you don't do any modding on this forum because anyone who knows me and has seen my previous posts knows that I am sarcastic, abrasive and helpful in equal measure.
Since when did the mods around here:
A) do any actual modding
B) start wearing jack boots
Custel got a 24hour ban for far far worse and you're threatening me with a permanent ban for using stars????
Seriously, unbelievable.

make a search on google or here, you will find the answer!
OMG? How much f***ing reading does it take to see that has been answered already...in this thread...!!
It's not like we went OT or anything and started *****ing at each other about stars and swearing?
Can you not use a scroll wheel man??
Sheesh.

Spellchecker hides the original message - help

Hi all.
When i spellcheck my emails, the spellchecker takes-up so much of the screen that i can't see the word that is supposedly spelled incorrectly. What that means is; I can't see what word I'm about to replaced with one of the proposed spellings.
Does anyone know how to make it so that the spellchecker allows me to see both my originally spelling as well as the list of proposed correct spellings?
Sorry if this is unclear. I'm happy to try rephrasing if need be?
Thanks
-jm
Does no one else have this problem? If I'm just missing something obvious, please tell me.
I use my TP2 for business email (as i'm sure most of us do) and I really can't afford to send messages without spellchecking. Given the issue i'm having, running spellcheck is extremely painful.
thx.
-j
Yup, I have this problem too, noticed it last night.. together with the TAB key being missing off the keyboard... and the two locations required to switch in Delivery reports...
As for a solution, I don't know of one except getting rid of the touch flow... which im tempted to do - as once you get past the pretty'ness its "pretty" useless!
Alternate solution :
* To have both "Touch Flo 3D" and "the standard Windows Mobile menus"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu]
"CUIHandler"=dword:00000000
With the standard menus you see the text while spell checking, and you still keep touch flo (which I do find helps when using the TP2 as a one hand phone).
Harvey
HarveyR, *thank you* for replying with that suggestion. I'm going to try that tonight and report back.
Harvey,
That worked like a dream... thanks so much!!
At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth; can you tell me if there's any way to resize the font on the "menu" now?
What i means is, when composing a new message, if i click the "menu" button, the font is HUGE which means i have to scroll vertically to see all the options on that menu. Do you know if that font can be set to something smaller? If so, how do i do that?
thanks again Harvey.

WM Word Gripe!

OK, I used my Tilt for everything. And I ususally get laughed at from friends cuz I have my checkbook as a spreadsheet, take notes for meetings, etc. on it.
However, I find that tying in Word, trying to cut and paste, etc., is almost impossible on my Tilt2. Is anyone else having this issue. For a recent convention I went to, I broke out my old Tilt to take noted on cuz it was faster to do so. Is there a setting I'm missing? A better keyboard I'm missing? Or something to make my Tilt2 MORE useful to me? I find everything else is OK, but I use mine for note taking all the time!!!! What can I do? Suggestions?!?!

I just use the stylus

For portrait mode, I'm using SPB Keyboard, which allows me to use the CTL key to do standard cut paste. However, what I generally do is open the hardware keyboard, the use the shift key and LEFT or RIGHT key to highlight. From there one can simply hold the stylus, or even hold the hardware CTL key + C to copy to the clipboard.
Otherwise, you have to hold the screen and enable text selection. But that generally doesn't seem to do me much good.
I don't like the select/cut/paste of the MS Mobile Office with the newer OS versions.

[Q][Unimportant]Why doesn't the keyboard dictionaries not recgonize proper grammar?

It's not a big deal, but I wanna know if this irritates anyone else. When I try to type "it's" in lower case letters, it keeps wanting to auto correct to "its". Seriously, they are two different words with two different meanings so why doesn't Android keyboards (HTC's or Stock's) recognize "it's" as a word?
There's a bunch like that, but "it's" is the one that, by far, gets to me the most. Anyone know a fix or is anyone else at least irritated with Android's apparent hatred for proper grammar?
Simple answer to a technical quesiton....
programmers are better at programming then they are at grammar. Computer science, not English major, ya know.

I've run into the same problem. It is rather annoying and I've found now fix for it. Before I rooted, it recognized that when I would type "its" that I primarily meant "it's," although it provided options for "its" and "it's." I don't know what happened, if it was a fluke in the system and completely unrelated to rooting, or what.
Also, trying to press the arrow for more options when having typed "its" provides no option "it's," I've noticed. One workaround, I've found, is to only type "it" and the option for "it's" will usually be the fourth option listed, without the need to press the arrow to look for other suggestions.
Just something I've noticed.
Is does come with the option to add words, correct? Is it hard to add a word that you deem should be there? When I type it's with the HTC keyboard nothing else shows up. Unless I forget the ' then it shows its and It's...

On the HTC keyboard, that's my primary problem. Can't add "it's" because it's already in the dictionary. If I want the grammatically correct "it's" I either have to type the apostrophe myself or settle for it being capitalized.
As for the gingerbread keyboards. I don't think there is a fix. It's in the dictionary, but typing "i", "it" or even "its" doesn't pop the option up.
I guess I'm doomed to avoiding that word entirely or just sucking it up and typing it out.
*note*
swype has "it's" and it can be swyped very easily. Maybe it's time I adopted it entirely and used it exclusively.

Well grammatically speaking you would have to put the apostrophe there, so I assume you are looking for it to automatically be there with out you imputting it?
**Also cant check now because I am changing roms and phone stuck on htc screen, but have you checked the down arrow to see if it shows "it's" in lower case?
So let me get this straight, you are complaining that tapping "its" outputs "its" and that you have to tap "it's" to output "it's" right?
PS: not that I don't trust you but being that this is on the internet I need proof of a sample sentence to prove you are using the proper "its/it's."
PPS: I use Swype and often you have to Swype over the apostrophe to get certain words to work right. "Don't" for example can be picky if not Swyped exactly (comes up doubt a lot for me, but I'm a sloppy Swyper).

My problem, good sir, is that when I want to type "it's", it wants to auto correct to "its". Therefore, every time I type out "it's", I must also tap on "it's" in the auto correct bar so that it stays that way.
Proper usage:
"It's a nice day outside." A contraction of it and is. It can also be a contraction of it or has. Thus, "It's been a good time, man!"
"I don't know what it is, but you should probably get out of its way." "Its" being a possessive pronoun in that sentence. You can tell if you want to tell the difference, you can substitute "her" or "his". If it still fits, then you're using the possessive pronoun version and not the contraction version.
The problem is the keyboard only wants to enter the possessive pronoun and not the contraction.
As for swype, I love that you can just swype over the apostrophe without having to change tot he symbols keyboard or hold down the symbols keyboard button and move over to select it. Most of my friends don't even care, but I kind of do.

The option for "it's" doesn't even come up in the auto spell and yes, I'd like it to. I would like to type "its" and have the option to choose "its" or "it's" but I do not get that option. I know on the Gingerbread keyboard, you have to type "Il" to get "I'll" to pop up in the auto spell, but it won't pop up for "ill". It's silly, I know, but it's also stupid. Someone in the programming chain needs to add contractions to the dictionary and make them options. To be frank, it would not be that hard.

It does it for pretty much all 3 letter contraction (I'll, it's, etc) which keyboard are you using? It definitely won't work on Gingerbread because that's what I'm using right now. HTC IME is sketchy, it depends on whether it's stock or themed; or so it would seem. It's not a problem so much as being annoying. If I'm not paying attention, it'll enter the wrong word. Then, because I'm OCD about my spelling and grammar (at least in text messages), I gotta go back and change it.

I am using a regular HTC IME keyboard. But not the one with the arrows, but it is working for me

For what it's worth I used all three keyboards I have installed (Swype, Gingerbread Stock, and Swiftkey) and typed (or Swyped) its and all three had it's as an option. In fact, with Swiftkey I only typed it and it was an option. If you hurry Swiftkey is free from the Amazon App Store today only.
This could be because of my own dictionary so take it for what it's worth.

I'll have to give it a try, I've only used the one with the arrows. Maybe there's a difference?
