Just received an HTC p3300 with O2 contract. Within one day the network disappeared and I got the "Invlaid or missing sim card" message. It's all brand new. Obviously I can return it if neccessary but is there anything I can do about this?
If I plug the USB cable back in, sometimes the sim card starts working again.
I have read that this problem has occured on other HTC models in the forums.
I have tried putting another sim in which worked for a little and then stopped.
Any clues?
I had a similar thing with my Orbit from O2...
...it turned out that I had not secured the Sim Card correctly by clicking the little cage home!!
I have been using Co Pilot and my speed camera warnings stopped working so ended up deleting and putting on TomTom
Hmmm
I have made sure, several times that it is secure with no avail. But it is true that there are times I can give the sim a polish and reinsert it and the sim will be detected again. But if this is a matter of bad contacts or a warped sim cage or something am I better off sending this back or is this inherent in the design?
Thoughts?
Solved but not satisfactorily
Ok, solved the problem by putting a little bit of toilet paper between the battery and the sim card, wich exerts pressure on the sim against the contacts. At first this led to the corrupted file names on the SD card malarky. But checking the contacts and reinserting the SD card solved this problem.
But this is hardly good for a brand new unit. Should I send it back?
It doesn't bode well.
I hooked up my Desire to my PC as a usb drive and somehow it has corrupted the FAT table on it
Is there anywhere I an get an image of the original SD Card as it comes with the Desire? Obviously I can re-install music/videos etc, but I'm afraid that not having the original data on the card will screw up the apps.
Any ideas?
No it will not. Nothing essential on the original microSD card.
Excellent! Thank you for that.
I actually got most of the files off the card using RescuePro, but they're named Raw0001.dll, Raw0002.exe, etc, but it means I can recover the htcsync.exe and the pdf manual and suchlike.
Thanks again for your help.
I have a Sandisk 16Gb microSD card (which has outlasted one blackberry phone without the slightest problem) and have found that the Desire has on three occasions so far deemed it to be corrupt - with the only option is to format!
Having only music it hasn't been too much of an issue - but if and when I start storing app data such as satnav maps etc I am going to lose my adoration of this phone pretty darn sharpish.
Has anyone else had any sd issues?
Hi, I got my Desire on Friday, from mobilephonesdirect. It seems to be virgin branded phone and I am experiencing the same problem with SD card, it keeps saying the card is damaged and needs to be reformatted, or it says the card is new and needs formatting. I thought this was because it's meant to be a T-mobile phone and possibly the sim is messing the card??? Don't know this is all new to me.
If however the phone is virgin and working on a t-mobile sim does that mean it's unlocked? In which case I shouldn't return it just because of sd card.
Thing is, I don't know if there is something wrong with phone for not accepting the card or if there is something wrong with card?

Hi, I got my phone from carphone warehouse on T-mobile last month and it came with Virgin Media icons as well. I have had no problems with SDcard but replaced it straight away for an 8 Gig I had waiting for it The 4 Gig card has now gone in the mrs's blackberry and seems to be working fine.
The original 4gb card is collecting dust on a shelf. The 16gb replacement is a tried and tested card. Here's to hoping just an unpleasant hitch.
Mine's an unlocked device from T-Mobile.

Hi,
I bought HTC Desire a month ago, at first there was no problem. But 2 weeks ago, it started to throw the "no sim card in phone" error message. But the problem was usually fixed when i restarted the phone or turn the airplane mode on and off. But last week it started to throw the error continuously. I used another sim card, I bought a new sim card, yet they didn't solve the problem. I can use these cards in other phones without having any problems. If there were any simlocks in the phone, I wouldn't have used it at the beginning i guess. I reset the phone to the factory settings, still no help. Any ideas?

Dodgy SIM reader. If you've tried other SIM cards in it then it must be the handset. Take it back to point of purchase for a replacement if possible.
Have any Glide owners seen this? My wife's Glide was replaced at an AT&T warranty center recently (home, back, menu, and search buttons stopped working) and every once in a while I see the no network icon on the phone. I go to Mobile Networks and the no SIM card message popup appears. After several power off, take out/put back in SIM card, power up phone attempts the phone eventually sees the SIM card and all is well. I do notice that the SIM card does slide in/out very easily. I put in a small piece of paper to keep the SIM card snug, hopefully that will fix the problem. Anyone else experience this problem?

I had an issue with this before try to tape the sim card in place see if that helps
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda premium
Tried the tape and still got the sim card error message after a day or so. I went to the AT&T warranty center and they put in a new SIM card. The phone works fine now and hopefully will stay that way. The tech put a note in our acct of the SIM card issue in case it pops up again.
Also, FYI.... Samsung Kies does NOT work when you have the SIM card error message (for backup/restore). Kies just spins the "Connecting..." status forever. I spent a few hours selecting the troubleshoot button that reinstalls the drivers, uninstall/reinstall Kies, installed Kies on another laptop, etc...nothing. The moment the SIM card issue was resolved, Kies connected just fine. The Glide also seems to like to enable USB debugging mode on its own, which disables the MTP connection that is required by Kies. fun.
It would be nice if Kies threw a "Cannot connect, no SIM card detected" message...
I have the same issue. My glide came refurbished and about once every two or three days I will notice that the phone is no longer recognizing the sim card. I have to take the battery out and take the sim card out. Then i have to put the sim card back in and then the battery and turn it on and its fine for another few days. I have had 3 different sim cards and it still does the same thing. AT&T just refuses to acknowledge that its not the sim card.

I have the same problem where ICS will just not read a sim card. I have tried multiple carriers SiM's and none of them work. Does anyone know how we can force Android to read and then request a SIM. It is not a problem of the SIM not being seated properly since it was working directly before the ICS upgrade and when I downgraded the first time it read my SIM without a problem.
I have not yet had any problem like that, I have had issues with data and wifi, but later found that it was the software I used before for battery management had an update that shut off those services and have fixed.
SIM card errors though, I only got 1 once but that is because the simcard holder in my phone seems loose and it wiggled out once and after that was nothing a gentle squeeze couldn't fix.
Samsung SGH-i927:
ICS Leak I927UCKL1 4.0.4 Stock
CWMR Touch v4.0.0.1
Keyboard fix
Superuser 3.2r3 ARM Optimized
LiteKernel v5.2
quick update, so far so good with the new SIM card. no sim card errors
spoke too soon! got the sim card error this evening. went to the AT&T warranty center again and got a replacement phone. this one better work.
SIM card error mesage again with phone #2. so far:
1) new phone, same SIM card, same battery
2) same phone, new SIM card, same battery
3) new phone, same SIM card, same battery
I'm starting to think this might be a cell tower issue since the other problem with this phone is that the phone would sometimes not ring or show any missed calls. maybe now it throws the SIM card error instead??
the mrs is going to go to the warranty center again to try to get a new battery and charger. we'll see.
final summary, new battery and still get the sim card error. AT&T is sending a Galaxy S2 skyrocket as a warranty replacement. My wife tried out swiftkey 3 and is willing to make the jump to a touchscreen keyboard.
Sorry to bump an old thread, BUT, a factory reset fixes the issue. My wife had this problem. It occurs if the SIM card is ejected by accident for any reason while the phone is on. The simcard does not lock in at all so I can only assume she bumped it just right. I got a full replacement phone from ATT, and while messing with it while on, the simcard fell out. After turning it off and putting the sim back in, the same problem occurred on a brand new replacement. A factory reset solved the issue.
I was googling about this and saw this thread. Figured I'd add my 2 cents, and what solved it, but I am still replacing the sim just in case.
Hi all,
I have a Note 2 which was on O2 I purchased an unlock code on eBay and unlocked my phone using a friends micro sim which seemed to work fine. The only sim card I had is a nano sim so I tried to use one of those adapter trays and broke my sim reader in the process! So I replaced the sim card reader with a new one.
The phone seems to read sim cards now as it does not show the insert sim card error but it is not getting any signal and is showing the error "Not registered on network" when I try to dial. I have checked the hardware and the aerial is connected and undamaged. I have never altered the software on the phone and it is on the stock O2 4.3 ROM and the phone is not rooted.
Any ideas because I am at a loss...
Thanks
Doesn't any one have any ideas?
