Hello guyz, I have the US T-Mobile version of the TP2. For some reason, we have the PIE as the default browser instead of the Opera.
Even in the TF3D tab, when you launch the browser or any of the bookmarks, it launches the PIE and I HATE IT.
Is there a Reg Edit or some thing, that would have the Opera instead of the PIE as the default browser...
Thank much for you help...
don't worry about - Opera is not working propperly on my TP2. Often fails establish the data-connection. PIE works fine! I want to change from Opera to PIE but don't know the hack ...
im curious about this also.

So does IE sometimes.
The default browser is the issue. It needs to be changed. I tried to find the option for Opera to be the default, but it seems the one included in the rom has this removed.

On the internet tab, how do you change the default browser that launches when you click on the globe icon?
For some reason when I updated to Dutty's most recent ROM (full), on the internet tab, when I click on the globe it will hi-lite but nothing happens. Also, on the previous ROM i was using, even after installing Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta, when I click on the globe icon it launches the older version of Opera Mobile.
I would like to change the globe icon to launch Opera 9.5 Beta. Is there a how-to for this?
seriously...no one knows how to do this???
If you get WM6_PPC_HTC_Opera9_HKCSL_WWE_1660.CAB from Dutty's server in the "add-on cabs" section and install it, the link will be restored. Not sure if that is the version you are looking for. It is build 1660.
i ended up installing dutty's latest build (see sig) so the globe is working again.
i still want to know how one would change the browser that is launched by clicking on the globe... i'm sure it is possible!
Use this tool to change it (and other stuff). I use it so the 'globe' starts PIE as I don't fancy opera too much.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407777
on the flipside I HATE internet explorer with a passion but cannot use dutty's rom because everything is set to I.e. and I could never seem to get it to change to stay as opera. the screen res, size and opera browser are what made me get the diamond so going back to pocket internet explorer is like stepping into the dark ages for me - just try loading a megaupload page on it for example.
does anyone know a surefire way to put weblink defaults etc back to opera with duttys rom?
The reason why it didn't work in Dutty's roms was because it wasn't installed...
I'm running the 1.4 version now and Opera is included in that one...
due to many problems with OPERA I want do change de default setting for internet from OPERA to IE. Does any guy knows how to do this on TP2 ???
Rather than mess with registry settings, why not just remove the Internet tab and add a link to IE in the start menu?
Also, Pocket IE is such a piece of crap. I think most would agree. What problems do you have with Opera that can be solved by using IE?

Most links dont open with Opera. IE will work fine - specially links from RSS Hub open with Opera and mostly dont work. So I copy the URL to IE and it will work fine ... (bad workaround)
So this is for us Tmobile TP2 users who have PIE as the default browser.
I've had a few people test this & it has worked for most. I've also tested the updated cab from a fresh hard reset & it works for everything.
Things it does:
Sets OM as Default Browser
Makes OM the default for the Internet tab on TF3D
Changes the startup page on the Internet tab to Google
Sets search function on Internet tab to go through Google
Opens bookmarks on Internet tab in OM
Opens all links in any app with OM
Increases max tab allowed in OM to 5
Changes "Minimum overview Zoom" in OM to 90
Difference between OD & ODBookmarks
The ODBookmarks cab is the same except it takes away the globe & 4 default bookmarks on the Internet tab & just has your OM bookmarks listed.
(See screenshot)
Uninstalling
If you don't like this, just unistall like any other program. Also, to change the Internet tab back to Tmobiles default, install the TmoDefault cab. You have to do this because if you unistall the first cab it'll delete the settings for the Internet tab. Also, for some reason, no matter what, after you set OM to default, if you revert back to default settings, OM will still open all links in other appls. Don't know why, but it will not revert back to IE. Sorry.
Warning
If you've changed any settings in the OM ini, this will overwrite those settings so you'll need to redo them.
***Not for us with WM6.5 &/or Manila 2.5+ since i dont run a newer rom & i've never messed with it.***
Thanks for any help. Please leave feedback.
If you tried the original version & your links don't open in Opera, install the new one & everything should work. Thanks for helping test the original.
i installed the 1st cab and it works...launches opera by default from the net tab
It fixed the internet tab for me but links in mail still opened in IE.

hmm, it should have done everything. i wonder what went wrong? Did you soft reset the device & then try?

Works great. however i wondering how to change the internet shortcut key to opera. cos it defaults to PIE. thx

Are you talking about the key on the keyboard? I don't know how to fix that. I was just thinking about that a few minutes ago.
Also, do links in emails & everything open up in Opera Mobile as well?

It still opens links in internet explorer, as far as I can tell. It did change the tab in tf3d.

Ok, i have to figure out what else i changed on my phone but didn't put in the CAB that's makes the links work on mine.
Works for me; plus my email links still open in opera mobile
Cool. Glad to hear it's working.
@jim_0068 I'm thinking you're right (on tmonews) that the preference setting inside OM is needed as well, so I may include a modded ini file for that in the CAB. Its weird though because my ini file shows that particular setting as not being changed yet it all still works for me.
I just wish I could compare my registry to someone who hasn't tried this or anything else on it, just to double check all the registry settings i changed.
Anyway to get this going for the WM 6.5 Windows Default home screen? On the bottom it says favorites, but IE is showing and you could add favorites for IE. I wonder if this could be Opera and add bookmarks for Opera.
Works Great
Thanks for the cab

I don't know if it will work for 6.5 or not. If you try it, don't hold me liable if it messes anything up. If it does work though, let us know.
Also, glad to see it works. I guess now i'll edit the original post to show what all registry edits & what-not that it changes.
to the original poster: I just noticed that while this works perfectly it doesn't scale properly when you are using touchflo 3d in landscape. was curious if you could look into that? thanks for the wonderful cab though.
Thanks for the cab., it worked perfectly for me. One very minor issue however. I have both the stock version of Opera Mobile and Opera Mobile 9.7 (I believe) beta downloaded from OM's website. When launching the default browser, it open with the stock OM, but with links to emails, the beta version opens up. this isn't a problem for me honestly, I even actually prefer it since the beta version actually scales the page better, but I just thought you'd wanna note that. Awesome work on the cab. and thanks again.
Oh yeah, how do I use the favorites cab.? Is that what I use to change the favorites on the internet slide of the tflo3D?
Worked great
No problems. I still had to do the configuration in opera:config to set it as default so it would be used from email links. Other than that, it worked perfectly. Thank you for the easy tweak. Those of us who dont know what we are really doing in the registry appreciate it when someone takes a tweak like this and wraps it up for us with a nice ribbon.

do you mean when you're on the Internet tab & go to landscape mode? I just did that on mine (i have it where the globe is gone) & it just moves all my bookmarks to the right. It seems that TF3D has it so that The globe will always default to the left part of the screen in landscape. I don't know how to fix that

As for the 9.5 vs 9.7 issue, i think that has to do with if you set 9.7 as default in the settings (i think that's an option)
The favorites cab is the same as the first except for it takes out the globe & the 4 default bookmarks on the Internet tab & just lists all the Bookmarks you have set in OM

Yeah I'm going to edit the cab to include the ini for OM with the "Browser First Time Launch" set to 1
Yeah the main reason I made this is so that I don't have to redo the registry edits manually next time i hard reset. Glad i could help out others
updated OP to fix changes in cab file. Everything should work.

What I meant was to make a new .cab for the WM 6.5 non Manila OS to have Opera the default. You know how it says favorites on the last slide and it's for IE? I want it for Opera instead. You know what I'm talking about right?

I haven't messed with 6.5 at all so i don't know what slide you're talking about or anything. Do you have a screen shot?
As for setting Opera as the defaultl (w/o TF3D), if someone could provide the registry tweaks (which probably are the same) for 6.5, I can compile them all in to a cab for you.
...has been launched. Just installed on Dutty's latest rom and so far so good.

Can't upload the cab, keeps failing!
thank for the heads up...
downloading now ;-)

No idea mate. Never bothered syncing favourites from my PC before
I don`t know some peoples already say about the new Opera 10 its nothing more than all other versions but i don`t think so.
1st when i install on my HD this beta i saw its much more faster than the 9.7 or 9.5 Also the view of the pages is much more better and clear and all the menus of the opera are just fast and awsome.
On the same time i just test for how long will load a page.
For example i choice a random page and i use Opera 9.5 then use Opera 10 for the same page in the same internet connection and i can say that this 10 BETA is minimum 3 times faster than the old Opera.
The Only bad things is that still not have a full Flash support but soon this will be fixed and then we will have a awsome fast beauty Browser for our devices
Cheeersssss
thx for info about new release
Looks good. particularly management of bookmarks. Zoom seems more controlled

I've been using changescreenconfig to control my g-sensor apps. Works fine with opera 10.
Now I just need to find a way to make the zoom bar work on my TP2.

I know. I had it installed before but the apps in Dutty's ROM didn't require changescreen so I didn't bother to install it. Seems I have to now, though.
Does anyone know how to sync the bookmarks in Manila with those in Opera 10? I currently have two sets of bookmarks now, one in Manila for the Favourite Shortcuts and those in Opera.
hi..How to set opera 10 as default browser?thanks
Mine became the default browser when I installed it to main memory. Landscape working. Best browser ever!

+1
It's still a bit buggy - but this will definitely be the best browser ever when the first non-beta is released!!!
I'm just wondering why Opera Mobile is still (alot) slower than Opera Mini, although both use server-side compression!? With Opera Mini, browsing the web is so incredibly fast!
very positive first day impression
RTL display
Hi,
can anyone tell me how can I configure Opera to support RTL languages display properly (i.e. hebrew).
Currently all the hebrew sites I entered displayed the text backwards
Btw, I have the RTL checkbox checked (under opera:config)
Thanks!

If you want rotation for OM 10
install the cab file
Thanks to Syd159
PS : let me know if it did worked
i already install the opera 10 at main memory but cannot.....
CRANKSHAFT thanks for the link and RAMBO12345 thanks for the rotating cab, this is so far the best and fastest mobile browser
I recently installed Opera Mini and found it to be so much faster than either Explorer or Opera, so I use it all the time. How do I replace the default browser for internet on the home screen (Opera) to Opera Mini?
question too simple?
Hi, I'm still frustrated with this. I have the NRG Sense2.5 with cookie homepage, with Opera10 as the default browser. Anyone know of a simple way to switch to OperaMini as default?

I once looked into this to change the default browser from IE back to Opera. The IE included in 6.5 has a "do you want IE to be the default browser?" question. I checked yes and wanted to change it back to Opera. After some googling and research, I found there were about 6-10 registry changes for this to happen. Ugly! But then, I found a way inside of Opera to make the change via the menus (using the http://about page).
But, to answer your question, I don't think it's "too simple"... it's too hard
You might try to see what you can do with the http://about page of any given browser.
