stupid question... importing contacts? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

all my contacts from my previous phone were backed up into "windows contacts" i figured this would make importing them into my Tp2 rather simple.
however i cannot seem to import the "windows contacts" into outlook 2007 to transfer them over to the device. what exactly am i missing here?
OS is Win7 Beta 7100.

There is no direct import or export.
Open Windows Contacts
Click on Export button
Select Comma Separated Values (.CSV) on the popup screen
Save the file to hard drive
Open Outlook 2003/2007
File > Import and Export > Import from another program or file > Comma Separated Values (Windows)
Locate the CSV file and import

tried that. the "import and export" setting under the file drop down is grayed out. i cant even create a new contact under the contacts portion of Outlook.
ideas? i'm trying to use Google sync. but jesus, why is this such a dam hassle?

can you not drag your contacts out into a folder, then drag them into outlook?

The instructions are for my Office 2003, your Office/Outlook 2007 may differ
- go to Control Panel > Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs on Windows XP or older), select Office/Outlook 2007 and click [Change]
- click the Add/Remove Features radio button, click [Next]
- check "advanced customization of applications"
- click and expand Microsoft Office Outlook to show submenus
- click and expand "Importers and Exporters" and make sure Text (DOS) and Text (Win) are installed (i.e., Run from my computer)

Windows live Registry Keys??????

Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could point me to the relevant registry entries for the mail settings for Windows Live Mobile.
I'm trying to get messages to get synchronised fully (overcoming the max default of 5000) and also for the attachments and pictures in Html mails to be downloaded automatically.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Elsral
I would love to know how to change that also if you find out how...
another question - after setting up windows live mail with my hotmail account I deleted it and can not figure out how to add it again...any help would be much appreciated.
Just found the answer to this question.............
Do this..............
Go to Windows Live inbox
click menu (bottom right corner)
Click 'tools'
Click 'manage folders'
From here you can select which folders to synchronise
If you tap and hold on each folder you can then select 'folder options'
then in the drop down box you can select 'get full copy of message' and also 'only display messages from the last X days'
Do this for any folder you want to synchronise and you're good to go
When you go back to these options at a later time it would appear that the settings you chose arent sticking, this is infact misleading as all it is doing is putting the options back to default by appearance, but clicking 'ok' after setting each folder does infact stick the setting.
Hope this is useful to you guys, first time i actually get to help someone out for once, learnt so much from these forums, keep up the good work ppl,
Neil.

Think this might also help out with that too, simply tick the inbox folder.....not sure as i havent tried it myself, good luck,
Neil.
Thanks for the tip,
What about automatically downloading picture links?
thanks again,
Elsral

Contacts import

Is there any way to import a contact list to the Orbit if that list is in an excel file (column headings match the contacts descriptions)?
Have you tried importing into Outlook on your PC and then sync-ing with the XDA ?
No. I don't use any address/contacts list on my PC. I'll take a look at doing it this way though, thanks for the suggestion

"All people" button

First of all I am using manila 2.5. When you slide to contacts a button appears saying "all people". When clicking on this button you abviously open the contacts manager, but it is the old (or windows) manager. The new contacts manager however is not only nicer, but gives you all the options back to send mails from a contact card even if you have installed the SMS patch. Because of the SMS patch you don't have this option any more in the old contacts manager.
My question now is how can I make sure that the "all people" button opens the new contacts manager?
Thanks in advance

What SMS patch are you using? I used this one here, and it did not affect my contacts list. Make sure you follow all 4 of the manual steps described in that post (not just step 3). If you tried something else, then uninstall it, soft-reset and try my link.

Hi Chris,
I am using this patch and BTW the cab file 1.2 does everything what the manual settings do, but you can't click in a contact card to send a SMS, mails work, not SMS. I have discuseed this already with the author and he knows that it doesn't work.
Anyway, this is not a solution for my qustion. The new manila 2.5.1920xx has a great new contacts manager and I want to use it everywhere I can, because it is not affected by zenyee's SMS patch, it looks nicer. But apaart from making a shortcut I don't see how I can use it as a softkey in in the home screen or in the contacts (people) tab.

I'm confused about what you wrote (the bold part I highlighted). What do you mean it is "not" affected? I thought you said it is affected - i.e. the "send message" part of a contact card doesn't work. Am I just totally misunderstanding you?
In any case, you can change the left softkey in the home tab to open the Manila contacts list instead of it bringing up the phone pad. All it is is registry entries that need to be changed. But, if you have the sms patch installed, I assume you'll continue to have the same problem.
Let me know if you want to change the left softkey in the home tab anyway. I made a cab for it so that I wouldn't have to manually make all the changes every time I hard reset my phone to factory defaults.
EDIT:
Here is the cab that will make those registry changes for you.
This is the ALL PEOPLE Reg Value, restore it using any Registry editor

Let me explain what I mean using the two screen shots: one from the classic contacts manager, the other from the HTC contacts manager. If you apply the SMS patch and open a contact and click on "send message", nothing will happen. If you use the other contacts manager, you can open a contact and click on send message and it will open the windows messaging service.
Look at the answer from zenkinz, see [Tweak/App] Disabling HTC Messaging in manila 2.5 (version 1.2 Updated on 29th Sep), page 17
zenkinz said:
yes the send message from the contact will not work. It's due to a service I've disabled, and if I don't disable it, you'll not be able to send the SMS from the winmo app, so it's a catch 22 situation. I'm trying to work on a fix for that, but it's going to be tough.

Now what I was looking for is to replace the contacts manager in the contacts (people) tab. If you click now on "all people" it will open the "old" windows contacts manager, I would like that the new and better (and nicer) contacts manager would be opened.
Thanks anyway for the suggestion, but I don't want to replace the left soft key on the home screen.

Okay, so you want to keep the sms patch installed, but you want the "all people" softkey in the contacts tab to open the new Manila contacts list? And how do you then plan to open the WM contact list so that you can use the "send message" option in a contact? Do you plan on having a home tab quick link to WM contacts? I guess that would work.
I don't know where the settings are to the left softkey of the contacts tab and I don't know if that particular option is available in the registry just like it is for the home tab softkeys. I also looked into adding a quick link in the home tab, but I can't get it to open the manila contacts (only the WM contacts).
Sooo.... I think I'm out of ideas. Maybe you'll consider changing the left softkey in the home tab as you mentioned at the end of your second post (that's why I mentioned it as an option in the first place ). I don't know what you currently have set for that, but if it is still the "phone" then you can always access that by using a hardware key on the HD. Or maybe you have something in that softkey that you can place in a quick link instead.

Gmail configuration Help

Hallo,
I have setup a Gmail account. I can send/receive emails.
I would like to have a copy of sent emails saved on the phone.
After sending the email, it disappear from the outgoing mail folder, but a copy is not saved in the sent email folder.
Any clues ?
I'have already checked the "save a copy of messages in sent email" but doesn't work.
Thanks
1. Open to your Gmail inbox
2. Menu > Tools > Manage folders
3. Check "Sent Items" folder

I think you may still be looking at HTC interface for your e-mail, not the WM one that has the menu options you need.
Once you go to the "Mail" tab in touchflo/sense, you have to hit the "Inbox" button first, that will take you to the WM e-mail interface...THEN hit the "Menu" button in the bottom right, then hit the little arrow at the bottom of the list that pops up so you can see the rest of the options, then you'll be able to get to tools>manage folders

did you scroll through the page when you hit the menu button? Tools tab is located @ the bottom of the page & won't show unless you scroll through the page.
That's the solution many thanks

WP7 Calendar, Birthdays & Holidays?

Is there a way to get Birthdays and Holidays from my Windows Live calendar to sync to the calendar in my WP7 device?
Thanks,
Dave
If you've added the LIVE account for your Windows Live calendar to your phone, and checked the option to sync the calendar, it seems like these events should show up on the phone.
Can you try adding another event to your Windows Live calendar on the web and making sure that syncs down to the phone?

I've found out how to merge multiple Google calendars, but haven't found a way to do it with Live calendars. Bit of a bummer.

goto hotmail web on your desktop. along the top, hover over hotmail, and select contacts. put a tick next to the contacts you want to merge into one. just above the list you see a "manage" option, hover over that and select combine contacts.
presto. contacts merged. these changes should be pretty instant on the phone. otherwise you can goto settings > emails & accounts > press & hold windows live, and synchronise.

Calendars, not contacts. What I really want is birthdays to automatically be added to my calendar.
aww ok, then in that instance, i'm not too sure. haven't really looked into it.
