Hi Guys,
Trying to get the music tab to work correctly.
It has eventually found that the music is on the SD card, and loaded the correct files (however it does the lengthy 2 min search every time I drop onto the tab) but when I select a track to play it does nothing. Every single track listed has a small music icon with an exclamation mark through it.
Anyone have a similar problem? Apologies if this has been queried before.

No,
It works fine for me, one time run through to update the library and that's it, but I have it all in a single folder called 'music' on the card. Don't know if that's a factor
Try remove everything in this folder and reboot your device
My Device\Application data\HTC\AudioManager_eng\
On reboot, the Audio Manager should recreate the cache file and sub-folder and search for audio files again.

Hey I just bought this phone yesterday (had the galaxy before)
and today i opened up the music player and loaded the songs from my sd card, but for some reason everything is (about 90%) of my songs are under the album "audio" with unknown as the artist/album. but then the rest of the 10% song are under albums...how can i fix this? its quite annoying now to find songs by certain artist since everything is UNKNOWN.
i also tried using another music player (pro player or something like that) and same thing
either your files lost the mp3 tags for some unknown reason, or something else is wrong there.
either case try out this great app

so is there any way to diagnose the problem to see what it REALLY is?
also is there an easy way to put the tags back onto the files?
OKAY SO I FIGURED THIS ONE OUT LOL
go to settings, applications, all, find 'media storage' click on it. clear data.
then go to settings and sd storage, unmount sd card. then once available, hit mount sd card. let it scan fully
then go to music player and all songs should be grouped into albums, etc etc etc..
someone can close this thread now and keep it for reference for newbies like myself who run into this issue
I'm having a problem with the Google Play Music app.
I've been using it fine for at least a month, but all of a sudden tonight, when trying to play some music I get the error: "Couldn't play the song your requested."
I can go to the files and play them myself with the file manager, and with the samsung music player... I even downloaded Power Amp to check and it works fine. But I can't seem to use the Play music app. I've cleared data, uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm a Canadian user. Would this have anything to do with Play music not being available in Canada? And if so why was I able to use it all this time without?
can you go to google's music page and play that way?
I don't think its nothing to do with you in Canada, Google opened the music publicly/ international several months ago.
Thanks for the response!
I can't play music that way because I don't actually have any music in the cloud... All locally on my SD Card.
Also I had to install the apk manually instead of through the store. It says play music is unavailable for my phone.... which I assumed meant Canada....
we have the same problem.. any tips how to make it work?
I think I remember someone saying to clear cache/data for the play music app.

They updated the app recently and its giving a lot of people issues on aokp and cm9. The prior version did too, but was hit or miss. Some had issues some didn't. If you have an older version try it
Play music is problematic at best. I loved it too. I tried to use it and I'm also a Canadian user.
I did a lot of reading and its a problem with Play music itself. Sometimes the program loses track of where exactly the music is. Its database gets out of sync. So you have to go to Manage apps and clear the data. Then download "Re-scan Media" from the app store. Let it do its work, then it will work again. But you'll have to do this constantly. Its totally not worth it. Especially when you're out... ready to play music and you have to do all that drama.
Hey guys stupid update here. Play music works again for me. Tried tons of stuff, so don't know which thing fixed it when it dies again I will try to narrow it down. Found out the mp3 codec lib is a bit flimsy. Found out play music has issues with sd card reading. Found out it also is programmed to search for atom moov contents for streaming purposes before playing. And oddly it loads/pushes bluetooth ad2p every time it plays a song. And it's database of adding song registration duplicates entries often, but it has a built in verification method. Each of these were determined through a logcat of the issue.
I had the same issue and fixed it with just a simple copy to a folder on my desktop, delete from Internal SD, then adding it back on. Now it works again.
Copy whole "music" folder or sd card contents?
Can you confirm internal or external card?
Rom?
At this point, my assumption would be your issue fell into the internal (emmc) rescan fix category.
Turns out the rescan app pulls the GetExternalStorage api which isn't able to pull external sd. It only will have the system rescan emmc. Unfortunately, Google didn't have the foresight that phones would have two cards originally. So if you have music there, clearing cache and rescanning works well for many.
Found out one other issue/fix. Someone asked me about the media app loading draining battery issue some of us have had. I had them pull the mp3s and run them through an mp3 validator and reload. It fixed both the media hang up and play music.
Here's what I tried:
My music is in my external SD card. Go to your app drawer, press menu, Manage Apps.
Scroll the top bar to the right and choose All. Find Media Storage and clear its data.
Reboot into recovery, fix permissions. Open the gallery and let the list populate (it takes a bit).
Download the app SDrescan. Run it. Reboot.
At this point PM should recognize all your music.

You got sd rescan to scan your external? On aokp/cm9?
Anyway, looks like you have also confirmed another relationship to media scanner. Though quick question, why gallery open?
Yes.
Regarding the gallery open, I figured it would get the OS jogging. But its also because there were double or triple false entries of every picture on my SD card.

i've had two root causes related to this i'll share with you guys here. i'm using an lg g pro 2. two problems:
i uninstalled two programs and the issue went away: greenify and v4a.
first, apparently *GREENIFY* was causing issues. i don't know wtf i put into auto hibernation, but something was causing this issue. at first i suspected n7player, so i degreenified it. nothing. anyways, i DID have ES File Explorer and MX Player still greenified, maybe they were the culprits?
second, i had uninstalled v4a before uninstalling greenify, but that still didn't fix the issue. anyways, after i got my music back, i reinstalled v4a and the thing stopped working all of a sudden (used 4.4 install). shifted to 2.3.4.0 and v4a did NOTHING. music worked again but it wasn't functional.
end result: i flashed the lolliviper zip from the nexus 5 forums and it works again, w00t! i'll link if you're itnerested

I did not get you. Please explain in clearer words..
Ok, I am trying to make new a playlist that will stay on my device (razr m). I have tried to make one on the device, but you cant move the music around to make a specific list. Then, when you do take the time to do so - when the sd card is removed, you loose the playlist. I have tried windows media player and I keep getting errors of it not being able to sync several songs, which are already on my device.
Very frustrated!

I, too, have struggled with the same concept. for whatever reason, this app best works by creating your playlist online, and then syncing it to your phone - in turn, it will download your songs and place them in the internal storage. you'll notice that the size of this app increases as a result.
the app still recognizes songs stored on your external sdcard though.
my only other thought would be to use other music apps like winamp.
edit: just found this, and I'll try it tonight. http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...e-all-google-play-music-external-sd-card.html
update: this process worked for me! I was now able to free up more than 1GB of space on internal storage by moving my songs to the external sd card.
I've been having an issue with my Walkman app for as long as I can remember. Basically, it will automatically create playlists, that are dated (see picture below), and that I cannot delete. These playlists do get deleted when I clear the media storage (found in settings-apps-all-media storage)... But, come a few hours time, all the playlists are back! Anybody else getting this issue, or have a way of solving it?
EDIT : Problem solved, turns out there was a folder on the SD card, with a bunch of playlists, that I was unaware of
So I have my saved to phone file (music) and I have them attached to a play list. Then I set in the wear app to allow store on watch, pulled up the list and clicked the playlist I wanted to send to watch. Then on the watch I hit play Music and on wear, and the list shows, I then pick what I want and see a orange check on the bottom of the watch screen. What ever I do with that check, swipe or click it just goes back to the watch face?
Has anyone got the Music to transfer to the watch?
Yes, it works for me. Try to follow these instructions:
http://www.wareable.com/android-wear/how-to-get-music-on-your-android-wear-smartwatch
It takes a while to transfer the songs from the phone to the watch. In Google Play Music, you can go to Settings > Manage Wear Downloads and check the progress in the orange circle. When the transfer is complete, you should get a notification on your watch.

Thanks for the info, I actually found that same page & tried several times. I even get the watch to show the list and pick albums, playlists, songs, and then try that orange check and nothing.
Cleared cashe on music app, reset connections, and rebooted both devices. It all reads just like the web page except for the actual file transfer. I get error phone disconnected on the watch, yet when I go to wear app it is connected. Or I just see the watch go back to the watch face, no notification what so ever. Sigh.
looks like many are having issues, depending on the version of google play music. It also seems it has been broke, fixed, broke again. These things do happen when working on updates and such, I'll keep checking for an update. https://productforums.google.com/fo.../DGr1WPiy9Po;context-place=forum/android-wear
We found the issue, and I have music transferring now!
It is related to sd card, two ways to get past googles sd card failure.
1. put a .nomedia file on your sd card root folder, this will work if you have a third party music app that will allow you to choose an sd card folder so it still reads files.
2. put music files you want on internal memory and remove sd card until music is transferred. keep that music on internal when replacing sd card.
I believe this is an issue with googles sd card security, and you probably won't see this if you have marshmallow and have formatted the sd card the new way making it your secure memory. If you choose to keep your sd card as removable and usable elsewhere you will need to try some type of work around. It frustrates me but the way they are doing it is more secure in the long run. I just never put files that need securing on my sd card in the first place, just music, games, videos.
I'm glad it worked!
My phone is running Android Marshmallow and the songs are stored in the internal memory (not the SD card). Maybe this is the reason why I didn't have problems in first place.

Thanks! I'm super Happy with the results. I used the .nomedia on sd card. I have 1.4 GB now on the watch and I'm able to do my walking with bluetooth sound, without carrying the phone.
