GPS can't find satallites?

Got this phone today, installed tom tom, google maps and also gps test, none of which can find any satellites.
Tom tom just says "Waiting for valid satallite signal", google maps is the same, and gps test says "GPS starting up".
In the gps settings I have it running on com 4 for software, none for harware and managed by windows.
Anyone any ideas what could be wrong? fault gps receiver/antena?

Did you try standing outsite?

what about your baud rate settings?

How about trying the Asisted GPS, it will use some data but it helps find your locale.

I tried the supplied Google Maps and my copy of Co Pilot 6. Both acquired satellites very fast with a good lock. Didn't have to do anything special for Google Maps. With CPL as usual you have choice of BT or Manual. You choose Manual and do discovery. It finds it on Com4 at 4800 baud (I think) ... and that's it.

Do you find that the accuracy is good with CoPilot? I've got TT7 on mine, and it locks quickly qith good strength, but the lag is BAD. Don't know if this is a TomTom issue or the phone?

Had the same problem with GPS satelites, mine keep dropping connection so sending back to Amazon now. My replacement arrived this morning so when I get back from work, I'll swap them over.

CPL has always had odd routing issues ... like must Sat Nav systems ... but the lock has always been very accurate.
My TP2 went back after 24 hours due to a screen finish issue so I didn't test widely in the car etc.
I'm getting replacement tomorrow ... will try over weekend.
Again, I'm on CPL6 .. never upgraded because I have factory Sat Nav in both cars now.
I use Memory Map v5 more for walking (have 1:50,000 of the UK).

yep i have just tried google maps while out on a boat and in the town got 8 sats very quick and very accurate position

I've got the same issue. No GPS anymore. Wheneber I do a hard reset it works again. So it might be an installation issue?

Hi all,
For those of you who are unable to obtain a GPS lock within 1 minute, please ensure that you have DISABLED AGPS (it is only supported by a very few networks in a number of countries at present) and also ensure that you have run QuickGPS to download the latest data.

Great to hear after all the GPS issues with the Touch Pro and Diamond..things seem to have been resolved witht he Touch Pro2 and Diamond2. My TOuch HD's GPS works great..could be a little more responsive on location, but it acquires 9+ sattelites lightning fast though.

On most inbuilt GPS devices, you can improve lag by lowering the input and output buffer values in the reg, on Rhodium mine was set to 4mb for in and out, dropping these to 1mb (1024) has improved things.
On my TP (Raphael) I was running them at 512K , which was almost spot on.
You can also try the polling, default is normally 1000 (ms) I normally change to 100.
Make sure you Soft Reset after applying new settings to the registry.

GPS Lock, anyone with issues?

Has anyone managed to get their GPS Locking in Google Maps?
I've used QuickGPS to download the database and set Google Maps to use GPS but it never gets a fix.
When in TomTom it knows theres satalites about but doesn't connect to any.
Wondering if I have a duff.... anyone else?

Have you been out of the house? Some houses really interferre with the connection.
Also, maybe there are some settings in the application you have to change? It should get a fix pretty quick. (first time from 10 sec tot 60, after that, below 10 sec).
So you have updated the quick GPS? Did you (after running tomtom and getting the update for the first time) do a soft reset?

Yeah, did a soft reset after I turned A-GPS on in Advanced Config program. Have tried it in work which usually gets a fix, but will try outdoors, just thought I'd ask the question first

why did you do it on in advanced config? maybe that's where it went wrong. Can't remember me having to put A-GPS on in advanced Config program.

I had the issue in google maps where I could not get a lock. I had to manually configure connectivity to com port 4 in settings.
After that it has worked perfectly. I cannot say if TomTom works or not as I am waiting for my ne SD card to be delivered.
I have however noticed that everytime I sync with active sync QuickGPS always moans it is out of date even thoguh I might have updated it about 1/2 an hour ago.
Its not a major issue as its connected to my PC and just downloads the data again. i'm just ignoring it.

Do not use A-gps.
I have my TP2 fixing with no problem without it: first fix in 55", then always under 10".
Try and use for first fix Quickgps.

Brilliant, turned off A-GPS and loaded TomTom 7.915/Google Maps, got a lock, even indoors.

I keep seeing that to make the GPS work better, while also using QuickGPS, the A-GPS should be turned off?
How do I do this?
I have only had the Touch Pro2 for a few days, but have not been able to get a satellite lock in Google Maps even when standing outside away from many buildings.
If it would work better with A-GPS disabled, please tell me how to do this!

It should be turned off by default, I turned mine on using a program called Advanced Config.

Ok, thanks, just going to go try Google Maps again to see if I can get a lock. Maybe I just wasn't outside long enough, or far enough away from buildings last time.
Hopefully I can make GPS work soon

Ok, I just sat outside for about 20 minutes, in the middle of a field, away from any buildings, and was unable to get any GPS lock!
What is wrong here?
I have not touched the GPS Port settings in the control panel, but Google Maps only says Seeking Satellites (0) all the time.
If I do change Google Maps to use COM 4 Baud 4800, it gets worse and says Seeking Satellites (48037656) or some other equally stupid number! At least 0 makes sense, as there are not millions of GPS satellites, only about 20!
Please help, surely there is some way to make GPS work?

AGPS is not currently supported by any UK Networks, so should be turned off if in the UK.

i think i ended up setting all mine to com0 but i think it wasn't working originally coz i was sitting in the car and it badly needs a wash (yes that bad). Just stuck it up by window for around 2 mins and it had 8 satellites but i've reset it so often since i last used the gps i wouldn't have been surprised with around 5 mins ... 20 on the other hand is a bit daft

Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with settings somewhere, as in 20 minutes outside it never indicated a single satellite in Google Maps.
I have downloaded the Advanced Configuration tool, and it says that A-GPS is Disabled, which is correct for the UK, so there is nothing to change here.
I have tried changing the Port settings, but I don't know what I should change it too. The Hardware GPS port is blank!
Getting close to giving up for the day, but I really want to get GPS working soon!

Ok, I had the same problems, have you updated Quick GPS? Are you using Google Maps?
If you go into settings and go to External GPS my GPS Program Port os COM4 next page GPS Hardware Port is none and Baud Rate is 4800.
Make sure settings are same and restart phone.
Have you installed anything since getting phone? Might be worth doing hard reset and trying is "out of the box" so to speak.

I could confirm the GPS is working and flawlessly! Much quicker than my old HTC P3600i and the locking is done in the CBD area!
I used the QuickGPS (download the latest update) and then using my GPS software called TechrificWay for Australian (it's a rebrand of NavNGo iGo MyWay 8)

(I need to set the TechrificWay application settings to find the GPS unit on COM4 though)

I actually spoke to HTC today and they think it's actually a fault with the hardware, possibly the internal antenna for the GPS is not connected properly.
Slightly annoying as I now need to send it back to get a replacement, or have it repaired, but good in that it's not a problem with me using it! There definitely is something wrong that I can't fix, I just can't wait to get one that works now!

I can get a lock, but get bad lag, and it wonders off course regularly. I wonder if it could be that the radio is not that great for GPS, as many other HTCs have suffered with GPS performance that has gotten better with certain flashed radios?
HTC gave me a generic response of "check these settings" (which were all as they should be in terms of com port and baud rate etc... So I think I'll have to call them if it keeps crapping out on me

(Fortunately) For me it turned out to be a genuine hardware fault causing the GPS to not work. I spoke to HTC and they believe I was the first in the UK to need to get a replacement due to a genuine hardware fault, which I guess is an honor (just a very annoying one!).
Even with the GPS not working for the week that I used it, I loved the handset, can't fault it, and can't wait until tomorrow when I should be receiving my brand new replacement, hopefully with working GPS and no faults!
Thanks for the suggestions here though, I needed to make sure it was a hardware fault before sending it back for a replacement.

I've tested three over 30km trips with Tom Tom 7 installed on the device.
Haven't lost a signal once. So it works fine here in Finland.

No GPS Lock on Tilt 2 (Any ROMs)

Hey guys, is there any particular reason why I wouldn't be getting a GPS Lock on any ROMs when using things such as Google Maps or GPS Photo in the Camera.
I've tried all sorts of ROMs and they are all the same. Google Maps keeps doing the Searching for Setellite thing with 0 results.
I've tried various Radios too but still no go. I wonder if it has anything to do with SIM Unlock I did with Olipro's utility.
Any help is appreciated, otherwise I may have to return the device.

I flashed NRG's Leo Manila 2.5 ROM that has footprints, and I can't get a fix. I've tried googlemaps, gps photo, trapster, and footprints. I left my phone for almost 20 minutes and still no fix.
I'm gonna try the fix I found in one of the threads in the Rhodium general thread. we'll see what happens.

Did you have any luck with the fix?
I have tried the T-Back ATT aGPS Fix but still no go!
Anybody have any ideas?

Have you tried turning on aGPS in the settings/system? also can try updating to the latest radio which worked wonders for me to get My location working.
Make sure you use quick GPS also which helps lock faster.
Remember sometimes it can take awhile to get your first lock.

Well, so far, I've tried turning on aGPS in Settings/System. I've also tried downloading the latest info with QuickGPS and trying it that way. Still no luck!
I got an email from Olipro saying that it could take up to 40 mins to get a lock. How in the world is this at all acceptable???? 40 mins is toooooooooo long.
But I will let it sit there for a while today and see what happens.

Well that's about the only thing thats left to try. So I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

Also, if you live in the city, buildings will also block the line-of-sight to satellites so it will take longer to synchronize.

On my phone, the GPS is much, much improved over the Fuze, using stock AT&T ROM. It takes about 12 seconds to get a lock with Garmin Mobile XT--and that's indoors.

haha Well I thought it'd take a little longer than if I was outside but...not 20-40 mins longer!! Hopefully that'll be the issue is not being outside....and not that the device is defective.

Since GPS requires line-of-sight to multiple statellites, it depends on the building you are in. I get no signal at all when I'm in my house or travelling through tunnels.
Then there is a difference between cold and warm start. Cold start is when you first load the GPS app and sync to satellites, warm start is a reconnect after you lose your signals for short periods (say through tunnels). My fastest cold start sync was less than 30 seconds on a program called MapKing, all out in the open of course.

Why is it taking so long to find satellites??? I have to wait about 3-5 minutes...

my one locks into GPS satellite within 30 sec of turning on the GPS every time.
maybe you need to turn on the use Wi-Fi to locate function from setting>location.
which help to locate itself by using wireless mast triangulation.
might boost the speed of GPS lock.
also get the app called GPS Test from market to see how many satellite your phone picks up.
it gives a detail breakdown of satellite info and number of satellites.

I tried that but I can see no difference.
Is there a programme like the one I used to have in windows mobile diamond2, that connects to internet and speed up the process???? I am talking about the one that needs to be updated every week, but I can't remember the name right now. . .

I had it on my HTC Touch HD too.
I don't think there is such app for Android as the built-in triangulation via mobile network mast does it for you anyway.
You know how it shows your current location weather in the clock. also if you use Google map your location within 500 meters.
Try getting the GPS Test app from market for free to see if the phone is picking up any satellite at all.
if it's a brand new handset might be the chip is faulty. then you should be able to get an exchange as it should be easily demonstrated side by side on a working Desire.

checked my phone just now and I still get GPS lock in 40 sec inside my house even though it's quite a bit cloudy in London today.

Gps locks in about 20 secs for me, however i always had problems until i factory defaulted since then it has worked perfectly

Can someone recommend a good gps app that doesn't rely on Google Navigation? Google maps wouldn't lock any satellites on 4.1.2 and it works even less in kit kat. My wife had a very important doctors appointment today and we almost missed it because it was the 1st time using the navigation on kit kat and to my dismay, it's still garbage!
And I refuse to play the blame game between AT&T and LG as to who is to blame and needs to fix it.

First, let it do an initial fix. Install GPS Status & Toolbox from Play (or don't, use Maps application you already have), go out, enable High precision location (if using Maps, tap on My location button) and wait for a fix. It takes around 5 minutes, if device's GPS wasn't initialised. If devices GPS was initialised but can't get a fix, I suggest installing GPS Status and check the number of available satelites.
osmand uses OpenStreetMap, so you may try with that.

Thanks zamajalo. I think that may have worked but I didn't test it by going for a drive. But I do have to go into town tomorrow so I'll test it on the road then. But so you know, it's connecting to 10 out of 22 satellites. I applied the fix from gps status but also used another app called gps fix so who knows which one did the trick....lol.

I usually have a lock on 8 to 10 satellites on open, so that's pretty much OK. If you get a location fix, there should be no more problems.

Yeah it did the location fix but it said something about it only lasting a couple days?

What exactly? I've never seen that message on my phone or others.

When it downloads the extra content for the gps fix. it gives some disclaimer about how it may only last a couple days before having to download the content again. But it doesn't matter. It didn't work. It kept dropping the gps signal every two minutes and the screen would hardly refresh and show the direction properly. It just sits on the starting screen(your starting point), tells me how far down the road to go, then drops signal, doesn't give you directions anymore, and when it finally does pick up the gps signal it takes forever for it to "recalculate" your position. Oh and losing the signal again. Did I mention losing the signal?....lol
This happened with 4.1.2 also so it leads me to believe it's not a software issue but rather a hardware issue. I:E LG sucks for gps!
