Hey there... Well I've had my TP2 for a while now and I noticed the Ctrl button on the Keyboard.... I was jsut wondering, what is it actually for? I've never used it and can't see what its used for so it just puzzled me.
Thanks, Chris
cut, copy, paste, select all etc.....same as on the PC....
I use it for copy/paste, Ctrl + x/c/v
Comes in handy, instead of using the stylus, especially when typing texts.
ctrlis useful in terminal emulator...and even pretty useful when selectin multiple messages....
I've just noticed I have two on my Laptop, does that make me special?
@ChrissehB
Just use it like you would on a normal keyboard, if you're not a fan of keyboard shortcuts's you probably won't use it.
P.S. Please search before posting a new thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521656&highlight=Ctrl+Key
Thanks,

So after having my new Tilt 2 for a couple of days I was cleaning out my inbox and I realized that because there is no d-pad I cannot select an e-mail without opening it, unless I have the keyboard out and use the arrows
This means that if I want to delete an e-mail that is not at the top of the list I need to press once to open, once to open menu and again to delete. Does not seem right.
I think I saw something that allowed the zoom slider to be used as a dpad of sorts but I actually like it the way it is.
I feel really stupid asking this and I did search but could not easily find an asnwer.
click on the small letter, you will see the menu that will allow use to manage the mail without seeing it.

Here's one hard-key solution that re-maps the volume keys on the side of the phone:

That's a great tip! I never realized that! You should put that in the wiki!
Thanks
Thanks to both vigohz and MCBrian!
You can also press and hold the message in the list you wish to do something with and you will get the same list of actions as if you tapped on the small letter.
SPL doesn't match

You seem to be lost...you have a Kaiser, not a Rhodium.
You should be posting in one of the Kaiser sub-forums.

Wow, I did not know either of these two tips, I had been opening the onscreen keypad and using the arrow keys to move down to the message. Thanks to both of you!
OK, I used my Tilt for everything. And I ususally get laughed at from friends cuz I have my checkbook as a spreadsheet, take notes for meetings, etc. on it.
However, I find that tying in Word, trying to cut and paste, etc., is almost impossible on my Tilt2. Is anyone else having this issue. For a recent convention I went to, I broke out my old Tilt to take noted on cuz it was faster to do so. Is there a setting I'm missing? A better keyboard I'm missing? Or something to make my Tilt2 MORE useful to me? I find everything else is OK, but I use mine for note taking all the time!!!! What can I do? Suggestions?!?!
have you tried using swype to imput data...??? once you get the hang of it, it is a much faster way of typing...just a thought...
I just use the stylus

For portrait mode, I'm using SPB Keyboard, which allows me to use the CTL key to do standard cut paste. However, what I generally do is open the hardware keyboard, the use the shift key and LEFT or RIGHT key to highlight. From there one can simply hold the stylus, or even hold the hardware CTL key + C to copy to the clipboard.
Otherwise, you have to hold the screen and enable text selection. But that generally doesn't seem to do me much good.
I don't like the select/cut/paste of the MS Mobile Office with the newer OS versions.

i can email it to you...its not letting me upload it b/c its over the 5mb limit...
i sent the email to you with the following msg:
Before you install, please be aware of the only "side effect" that I have noticed. After installation, you will no longer be able to have your contacts auto-populate, when writing an email or text message.
You guys notice that you can't double tap the word to highlight with the stock version of Swype included with the SGSII? Not sure why this is no longer available, really helped speed things up with editing on the SGS versions of Swype.
Yes I noticed that, makes it annoying to fix typos...
it's to do with the samsung "correction" system.
It is possible to edit words via swype, but its a bit clunky, you long press the word, click select word, and then wait 2 seconds for the samsung crap to get out of the way.
I'm sure that the correction thing can be disabled letting us use swype more intuitively.
Apparently you can just uninstall the swype that comes on the phone and install the latest beta from the swype website and get that feature back.

I think I might just do that, definitely makes it a lot more difficult to go back and edit!
EDIT: NOPE, that didn't work. Don't bother, it's something with the OS.
I think this is actually a gingerbread thing.
Froyo used to do it fine but when I upgraded my
Old phone to gingerbread I could no longer do it.
The text selection is different.
You can click on the word you want to change then
Press the swype button once to get up the word list.
Hope this helps.
Also, once you have the word list up, you can press the 'Shift' key to get a list of capitalisation options for the word, e.g. word, Word, WORD.
Swype is the main reason I'm on an Android phone. I like the SGS2, of course, but having played with dual boot WP7 and Android on an HD2, Swype was the main reason for going Android. No regrets, mind you
I would LOVEEEE to fix this.., someone freaking sticky this.. I tried installing my swype from sgs1 froyo but no good.. I also hate how , comma is where space bar used to be.. always hit it instead of space

Hmm well I have apks for the beta, my own custom version,
Maybe If I can change the name,.sign then instal it along side
Our built in version. I do prefer the beta too. Too many buttons
At the bottom on this version, but as I said, it might be gingerbreads
New way of text selection causing the problem cos it happened on
My old phone. Very annoying.
Edit : I wouldn't be able to post it here tho as its against the rules.
If you want to edit the word, just single tap the word and tap the swype icon on the bottom left of the keyboard which brings up all your options.

We have a winner. Don't double tap, long press, or highlight the word. as long as the cursor is next to the word, the swype button will show the suggested words list.
Burko
Thanks for solving that for me zxz88!
Now, how do I ad words to it?
press anywhere on the word you want to correct to get the cursor there, then just press the swype key in the bottom left corner of the keyboard.....does the trick without having to select the whole word again....i had the same problem you did, then realized there must be another way....
actually.. that isn't too bad, I still don't like how much of the spacebar was cut to add 2 new keys tho.. I ALWAYS hit ,,,,,, for space

Yes, but Swype previously you could just double tap to bring up the word choice, one less step = faster.
BTW, this looks to be a Gingerbread bug, not Swype's... and is documented on Swype's forum: http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?2928-Gingerbread-2.3.3-Double-Tap-opening-Edit-Menu.
On a side note... can one of you nice people post up the "libswypecore.so" file from XWKE2's /system/lib directory? It got deleted when I installed the beta version, I think the stock version runs faster.
Thanks!

Surely a double tap and 2 separate taps are the same number of steps? I find the new way more intuitive in day to day use.
In fact if you are correcting the word you have just typed, you don't have to double tap at all anymore. One less step = faster right?

No problem, to add words I believe you just type out the new word instead of swyping it gets added as a new word so the next time you can swype it!

Wrong, it's all about WHERE you're tapping. If I quickly double tap on the word, my finger doesn't move from that spot and I can immediately pick the replacement word. If I have to put the cursor on the word, then move down to the keyboard all the way to the lower left to hit the option button, and then move back up to select word, of course that's slower.
Pretty straightforward really... how could you say the two are the same? It's like saying you're both driving from points A to B, who cares about distance, lol.
I think it`s very useful to show other stuff instead of recent apps only. I can adjust brightness and sound volumn on an ipad. any suggested apps for customizing the home key behaviour?
Install a decent launcher like LauncherPro then you can have it open whatever you want.
Not long-press, it's a core OS function.
@theOP: you may not be able to change the function of a long-press like iOS but, unlike iOS, you can change the function of a short-press, so it kinda evens out.
google should have open it to other apps for replacing or adding new stuff, just like the home screen....
Hi,
I dont like opening older posts, but better than post another new one...
So I undestood, that a home long-press is not possible to redirect as another button (e.g. Search) or to execute some bash scripts?
I am still looking for some task switcher on hw button dependend and with posibility to call it from everywhere (all tas managers using search button, which is not present on X10i). Currently I am using PreHome with home doubleclick, but it is not so good as long press could be...
Or - one question - is it possible to redirect long press on Back button? I Know, that on Camera is this possible...

I think what XperienceD want to say, he like the idea of opening old threads instead of opening new threads...If everyone did that we would not have 500 thousand "my battery is at 0%" threads.
Hi I`d like to reopen this topis
Tomorow I found, that Cyanogenmod ROM`s are able to do this natively!
Anyone using any of these ROM?
I am trying to find out what is this button menu related to migrate this function
Hey, everyone. I recently obtained a Palm 3245WW bluetooth keyboard. The device works great, pairing is really easy and once connected it works fine without any glitches. The keyboard is really easy to use, and hiding the on-screen keyboard is easy in order to have more workspace. After a couple of day's use, I am satisfied with the build quality, it really feels like a real keyboard and it is quite responsive. Even some (not all) of the keyboard shortcuts work!
My question is if anyone who has used the keyboards knows how of a key combination to enter the alternative inputs (such as accents, etc). I could use them when writing Greek, where the vowels can be accented. Otherwise, is there some way to alter the key mapping in order to define how the system reads certain key combinations? I have tried several combinations, such as alt+key or control+key or Fn+key, but to no avail.
Any directions would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Sav
P.S. Apologies if this the wrong place to post this!
Why did U open a new thread. There is already an existing thread. Now this is when I don't read and jump on to post your cap.
However, I don't have any experience with this keyboard so I cannot help on this.

I searched around and did not find any threads on this particular keyboard on SGS2. I found a few threads regarding other phones (mostly unsuccessful attempts with this particular keyboard), so I thought I'd ask if anyone has used it with this particular phone.
Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I am new here.
Thats ok matey, just do a comprehensive search next time.
