I'm currenly getting around 9 hours with little use and without the WiFi turned on! The only app I'm running is s2u2.
Any ideas? Is anyone else experiencing such bad battery life?
Thanks.
Have no problem with battery life.
Probably best battery life I have had with HTC.
Mainly calls, text, checking email and some web access.
My standby time definitely has gotten better over time! In the beginning I was lucky to get one day (would leave in the morning, and in the evening I had to charge again). Now I get a day and half, or maybe even two.
No problem with mine... after 2 full days still with 60%.
Watched an 1 1/2 hours long movie on my TP2 only used 5 to 10% on my battery.
That's strange. I get 2 days on a W910i on the same network with similar useage... I've not yet a a full day on the TP2.
The Vario V (TouchPro2) has the best battery life of all HTC's I've owned. Maybe it's your S2U2 settings?
Indeed, maybe it's S2U2. I know that when I first had the TP2, I installed almost everything I found, including S2U2. Battery life wasn't good at that time.
After a hard reset I paid more attention on what I installed, and since then (and after some charge cycles) it became much better!
I get ~ 2 days with moderate use. Ive bearly used it this weekend, its on its 3rd day and still at ~80% power. No problems with that.

I took advice from a fellow member on how to charge it, 12 hrs the first charge, 8 the second, and batt life has been steady since then.
I've just been charging it till the light goes green, is that wrong?

Here is some advice i got when i pretty much said the same thing... Hope it helps..
na leave it on charge as thats a false full charge. leave it for another 9 for sure. then use it till it prompts you to charge again and charge for another 8. after that fill your boots, but occasionally let it fully discharge. hope that helps

What is 'S2U2' please?
--
Terry, East Grinstead, UK
Since the last time I charged it:
75 - 80% left
42 hours standby
4 hours active use
I too have varying battery life... Sometimes I get to the end of the day with about 20% left, others, I get there with about 35% left...
Have put it on charge at the end of the day and leave it till I wake up the next morning. Is that a bad way to charge it?
Also, are there any true task managers, which show all the running processes, so that I can have a look at what might be causing my battery to drain the most?
@terrypin
S2U2 is a programme called Slide 2 Unlock 2. Never used it myself, but it's available here...
have no problems with battery life. mine lasted 1 week with advanced use, some texting, wifi was enabled, i played bubblebreaker a lot (adore this game ), watched a few mins of some films.......
i'm very happy with it
My battery is just making my life miserable. It comes down to 50% in first two hours after nightful of charging. If I were to watch a movie, the battery just drains down even before the movie has ended.
Must have done umpteen hard resets as per the cust serv guys. But still the same problem.
I am now planing to get my handset exchanged for a new one. Hope that sorts it out.

Let me google that for you S2U2
...just be carefull to set OFF the digital battery in s2u2 settings!!
I've noticed digital battery option drains the battery...
...my suggestion is to set off every possible s2u2 info option... weather, appointment notifications, digital battery... everything OFF... the battery life will be much longer!!

i pretty its way too good to be true.
last time i charged my 8525 was yesterday, friday. and usually when i charge my phone overnight, by the end of the day, id get a 90% battery meter reading.
well today more than 24hrs after, i still have the battery meter reading at 90%! is this true or a glitch?
im not a heavy user of the phone though. and did not do anything outside the norm of my regular use.
anybody else having this phenomenon (?)
if u dont use the phone heavily and battery has been trained as in drained and re charged a few times then yes its possible. im at 90% also after a whole day but phone has been sitting all most all day today. its saturday so very little calls for me today.
oh ok... thats good news then.. ive read some incidents where battery meter reading was 90% and people think reading is good and accurate only to realize battery meter go down to 20% after awhile..
ill go see how it is tomorrow without me charging overnight..
i do have bluetooth on....
My battery can act strange at times too, but I am just trying to ignore it lately. I finally came to the conclusion that if I watch my battery meter all day long then how can I enjoy my phone? Buy an extra oem battery and never look back. I ordered one today.

Be aware, that changing location and so the cell location and needed consumption for the phone function maybe much less then at another location.
Recently a friend here from Germany told me, he was used to have an empty
battery within 2 days on his wizard here in germany. While he was on vac in Indonisia the same battery was alive for nearly a week. Hard to believe but obviously true...

The TP2 has been out long enough that I think we can get a pretty good idea of it's video, graphical, and system performance. For those who have had one, what are your thoughts?

Wow, you sure you don't have a faulty device or battery? Or perhaps it's something you installed? 8 hrs is not normal.
I have push mail on during the day, push internet checking every 3 hrs, and I use the web browser quite heavily and I always end up with about 30-40% charge at the end of the day.

Not very good, but certainly not bad. There are sample shots in many reviews of the device. Just check those out.
The overall concensus appears to be that it'll not replace your digital camera. Use it for casual shots and for using World Card Mobile. If you're expecting more, than you will be dissapointed.

I really can't understand what you are doing with your phones.
I charged the phone over night and connected it to WiFi and am playing MP3 music since 6:00 in the morning with the display on. Every 30minutes my 3 EMail accounts are being checked. Additionally, I have written and received about 40 SMS today and made 3 phone calls.
Now it's 13:30, so it's running for 7,5hours under this conditions yet, and the battery is at 57%.
I can't imagine a way to drain the battery even faster, except GPS. No matter what I am doing, the battery at least lasts for a day.
Considering the fact that I am not playing MP3 the whole day normally, I get 3 days out of my battery in general -the same as with the SonyEricsson Xperia I had before.

I second that. I have regular mail checks, browser use and calls on my phone and i see 3 days of battery life all the time with some exceptions in one or the other direction. The only thing which wastes battery like hell is tethering which will drain a charge in about 6 to 8 hours depending on the traffic.
My TP2 can last 1,5 to 2 days with average use... but only with Edge, because as soon as I activate 3g it berely last 6 to 8 hours... 3g and GPS are the two things that drains the battery faster. That is my experience...

Well, I'm connected 24/7 via gprs ad push mail on (exchange, with "as items arrive" setting), 2 other yahoo accounts with SEVEN, palringo.
100+ mails a day
40-60 messages
and bad gprs connection
and most of the time I feel the phone warm even in standby mode
I don't think this is a defect. since my tytn II wont last for more than 8 hours too. but when i gave it to my wife, the battery last for 2 DAYS!!!.. (she doesn't use push email or palringo, just facebook sometimes).
maybe I should turn the data off for 1 or 2 days someday and observe the battery usage..

Hi,
How can you activate edge only?
Thanks for all the input guys. However, the original purpose of this thread was more for how responsive (sluggish) the phone was. Is menu transition and program start up snappy? Are there any delays throughout the phone or has that been ironed out? I've got a mogul and even with custom roms from XDA it's still very sluggish. Always has been.
It is HTC's graphical drivers. There are a few XDA born ones which help but they are no substitute for a proper HTC issued one.

I guess you aren't a heavy user. Me and one of my collegues can empty the battery in about 5hrs...
That's with bluetooth on, HSDAP connection, 10min checkup on exchange server (with about 20-30emails and calendar changes in those 5 hrs) and about 1-2 hrs calling.
The phone gets a bit warm, but that would be understandable I guess...
My experience with the battery life is that it's pretty good. Better then with my old HTC Vox.
It checks my gmail and hotmail every 15min. When at work i don't really use my phone. With some spare time it gets to the end of the day easily with some music playing in the morning (when going to work) and some in the evening (when going home). And allot of browsing in between.
Overall, for the performance and big screen you get. The battery life seems really good to me. When i got my phone i discharged it to ~10% and then let it charge 24 hours. After that i started using my phone till ~10% battery charge again and charged it till it was full.
Maybe this method helped a bit in the battery life? I currently have my TP2 for 5 days, so i'm still playing aroudn with it allot. But with normal use i could get 2 days easily with my usage.
Grtz,
FeareX
So how does this perform with Diamond Hologram, how many FPS?
I'm assuming that, this device like all other HTC's with the 7201a processor, suffer from bad performance.
I have mine ordered, but I'm not expecting it to be any faster then my touch PRO, if anything slower, since there are no custom roms as of yet
Since there now seem to be a few different firmware versions floating around, shall we see if any of them give better battery life.
Of course we don't have an objective measure of battery life, but we cna get an impression.
My experience:
TMobile UK f/w 1.15.110.10
Battery poor - It needs topping up through the day or I won't make it to teatime, worse than my Touch HD which was 18m old. Similar usage, ie push email, Twitter sync, intermittent browsing, an hour a day ebook reading.
T-mobile UK same firmware
Battery fine, much better than my old G1, need to charge every other day (as opposed to everyday/overnight each day).
Uses (per day):
Push Email
Light Web browsing
About an hour of gaming
About 40 SMS sent
Twitter/Facebook constantly
About 2 hours of music usage - Spotify
Music using BT Earphones, Bluetooth on around 2.5 hours.
That's a big difference in battery life between you two, I wonder if there is a bad batch of batteries?
I think it has nothing to do with batteries or software. It's all about how the phone is used, what the signal strength is, etc.
Mine lasts two days on moderate use, but I charge it every night anyway.

I also have the matrix style live wallpaper running http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/fishnoodle.digitalrain/.
It may be worth noting that I no longer charge overnight, only charging when it's low and until it's fully charged (I used to charge my G1 overnight or basically when I was on the desk, it became overcharged, battery swelled up, would only last about 2 hours but sometimes it would last about 10 minutes).
I also have no problems with signal and am pretty much constantly on HSDPA.

how long full charge takes ? at what battery % you start to charge ur phone?
did you charge till full since you first unbox your phone?
I have my brightness set to half way and have watched a few movie clips lasting maybe 20 mins and have just done a bit of brief messing about and i find the battery drains to about half way after this.
I have not let it drain out yet but it does not look like it would last a day if i had to listen to music surf and do a bit of gaming.

My firmware is same but battery is brilliant for me, try using a power manager and maybe look at widgets draining battery. I'm not using any widgets and have net off when not in use.
I wonder if it's about signal strength. By far the biggest drain on a smartphone is 3G, and my signal is quite variable.

I've just came back from Austria where I was using the net a lot over there for various things and I can tell you now, the signals over there are top notch!
The speeds remain consistent and the signals never go down by more than by one bar.
The T-Mobile network works perfectly even in the Underground!
This I feel had contributed to my battery lasting so long the last 3 days!
I've already noticed more of a drain since being back at home today!

I think if you continually charge from when you have 30-90% the battery will perform worse than if you charge it from dead / near dead. I have been charging my tp2 over night when the battery is extremely low and can now squeeze 3-4 days use out of it.

It doesn't really matter with Li-ion batteries. It is recommended to do a full discharge every 30 charge cycles or so for the gauge to recalibrate, but the battery itself has no "memory" effect.
There's no difference if you charge it from 70% or 15%

I've found with my T-Mobile Desire that the battery is really struggling and I can't get it to last a day as yet. I spent 3 hours with a friend that has an unbranded one and I saw my T-Mobile rom'd battery life deplete faster than his doing the same things. I think the T-Mobile ROM needs an update asap!
Since my last post, my battery the last few days has been bad.
I've also noticed now that it will only charge up to 98% and will only go to 100% if i remove cable and put back in. Then only to drop back to 98% straight away after I have removed it and then drop rapidly.
On T-Mobile using the older firware. Have asked T-Mob if the Firmware is the issue.
My honest guess is that all you guys will see an improvement in battery life over the next few days. Li-on batteries do need a few cycles before they'll give best performance and obviously no-one here has had their phone for more than a week or two.
I'm sure as the phone is rooted/custom roms appear/htc release the kernel/blah blah improvements will be made, but if I were you I'd definitely sit out any changes made purely on the basis of battery life until you've had the phone a couple of weeks. If it's still crappy after that, then it's obviously worth looking deeper.

Mine is .10 - the Battery at first was really good, I used it abroad in first few days and was great, 3G was used everynow and then, but wasn't a drain like it is over here in UK.
Now i'm getting last few days were on charge it sticks at 98% and drops pretty quickly.
T-Mob have asked me to factory reset it today and monitor to see if any apps are causing the issue rather than the firmware.
Any pointers for increasing battery life? I've disabled live wallpapers, picked a dark background, set friendfeed etc to update every 4 hours, and it's still not great. Phone is new, should I expect battery life to improve as battery gets used a bit?
Are task killers worth using? Seems to be some debate that they might actually cause more problems than they solve.
I've gone through forum and found lots of generic advice but would appreciate any ideas people have tried on the Desire.
Do I *really* need to wturn off wifi when I'm not using it? Isn't the phone smart enough to not use it when a known-network isn't present?
Cheers
From my experience i would advise against having a task killer running.
I used to have one running on my N1 and thought, "Great, i can free up memory". But you really don't need to do that with Android.
Having disabled it from running, I get to teh end of the day and I have between 75 and 85 battery, after having done a fair few phone calls, some net fun and data access.
I still have a task killer but I use it infrequently and dont have it running - i let it "kill" itself after running it.
I found they take up a good deal of battery life. But that's just my opinion.

Of course!
The classic task killers kill services that are sleeping and do no eat battery.
A few minuts later, on some receivers ( connexion to internet, message or SMS received) these services will restart, and that's where they are eating battery.
If you hadn't killed them, they would have done that without eating battery.
Waking up and then going to sleep is really less battery-eater than restarting the whole service.
So, please forget about all these task killers or do that in a smart way. Only kill your game or the latest app you used!
Battery life will improve over the first weeks use. Needs a few charge cycles to achieve full capacity.
Although the battery life might not be as good as some other "imore ipopular" handsets at least you can buy a second reasonably cheap battery if you know you will be a couple of days away from a possible charge (camping etc).

You serious? I am guessing you're referring to the iPhone, the smartphone that is on charge more times than its off charge?
My Desire hands down beats an iPhone for battery life by almost 100% - only ever got 1 day of an iPhone at best - Desire is approaching nearly 2 days full usage, I am no lite user either.
For battery life the Desire is one, if not the best out there at the moment.

My Desire has been up for 21.5 hours and has 3 bars left (according to the settings battery meter) but I've been driving around most of the day with spotify on listening to music, quite a bit of surfing, emailing, calls and a few texts.
I reckon it's probably got another 5+ hours to go yet.
My phone is quite new and battery life is starting to improve daily now.
Hmm... struggle to get more than 5 or 6 hours out if mine under relatively light usage, maybe 20 mins calls and 3 or 4 texts, if I use browser it flatten quicker still, the battery use status usually says Android OS itself has used most battery.
Hoping it will improve, at moment it is poor compared to my TD2 with a smaller battery
P.
had mine about 6 days and my battery is ver poor at the moment. however i remember thinking that about the G1 at first and it got better.
still was luck to get a full day from it. however i went to europe the other week (from uk) so turned all roaming data and syncing off and it lasted 4 days.
fingures crossed battery life increases on the desire, gor a car charger on orded fron fleabay so i should survive
i loved my G1, and found it hard to upgrade, first time thats ever happend, but wow this desire is differnt class, my wife has the iphone and is green and my 16 year old son is gutted he got the hero only 6 months ago.

I've been running my desire for nearly two weeks now.
As usual WiFi & gps are the main culprits.
On average, I have exchange & GMAIL push on 3G all day with a bit of Facebook, sms & several min long calls without going past the three quarter mark by 5:30pm . However as soon as I switch on WiFi at home for browsing, reading news feeds, market etc, bang goes my battery!
Turn off 3G and sync and use it as a phone.......great battery life!

Yea not sure how you guys get good battery out of it. I have everything off, dark background, no synching due to having mobile network off (only thing setup to sync is email every 2 hours). I take a few phone calls maybe 30-40mins, do about 15 mins of surfing, 30 mins of music through headphones at low volume, and a game for 30 mins. That pretty much concludes my battery life for the day (is usually at around 20% left by the time I get home).
I find if I browse the market and download/install apps, my battery will go down very quickly.
Got my desire for a week now and it lasts me 2 days woth some movies, wifi and messaging. if i go even lighter, only messaging and calls it lasted me almost 4 days. it has great battery in my opinion, better than my old hd2 and even better then my old old diamond
Over in General we found an issue with the calendar app keeping the phone from going into sleep mode - That could be a cause for poor battery life.
The thread is here (remove spaces please):

My Desire have no problem on battery so far tho, 1½ day with normal use is no problem. litle use i can use it around 2 days, but with alot off things running i would say for sure it works over a full working day.
Mine has been running for 20 hours now, I have mainly been calling, texting, surfing the net (mainly facebook), and playing a game a couple of times.
I'm not really sure whether this is good or not, I would rather it lasted longer than this, as it is due for a charge within the next few hours, and this is a bit of an awkward time to need to charge it. If I wasn't off work today I'd have a dead phone before I got home.
I don't like to charge mine before it tells me too, I like to think it'll improve the battery life over time? Is this right?
those batteries are not affected by memory effect. charging everytime you can is better than drain battery to 0%
HTC have said there is a software issue with battery levels hench the charging issues. Fix in the future they suggested.
Weather this effects the actual life of battery not sure.
I have just come from the HD2
At the beginning, everyone agreed that the battery life was god awful, and a month or so in everyone reported that the battery life was outstanding!
I can confirm this, to start with it wouldnt last me a day, by the end of it i could leave 3g and wifi on all day with everything running in the background and get a good 2 full days out of it!
I just received the desire yesterday, i gave it a full overnight charge and i must report that for the first charge the battery life looks very promising
I have used the phone VERY heavily even for me with about 100 texts, an hour talking, an hour on the internet and syncing every 15 mins or so and i have 2 bars of battery left, and i said, the battery is only going to get better!
You should look at power management tips for the HD2 as most of them apply, for example disabling 'automatic backlght' and setting it yourself because that alone can add about 30% to your battery life.
currently at 2 days 15 hours with 6/10 battery bars left.
i have gps/wifi/internet disabled and turn them on with the settings widgets when i want to use them. screen brightness at about 20%
the battery is great IMO
Guys could u please tell if I should when receiving my phone charge it directly (full charge) or it's better to empty it completely and then charge it ?
Thanx
Hi guys im wondering who else have a really really battery life, it drops so quick :S
i have brightness low,and seems its draining fast. i tried stock for a little and seems it drops not so fast but still fast, i compare with my old evo and wow was a beast it can last tooo long before drop 1% and htc one X its giving me so much issues i tried insert one coin, and im now on leedroid (seems better) i have to get juice defender ( i never have to use) using hard my old phone (EVO 3D) drops like 50% in 4 hours of Hard use, 2.5 hours bluetooth headsetplaying music, some browsing, whatsapp, twitter and facebook. sometimnes drop 60% its not so bad, perhaps yesterday in almost the same time and doing a lot less drop from 70% to 0% idk what happening or if this is normal because screen? anyone has this issue?
or maybe we can do a "test" maybe playing a video for 30 min or something wifi on, just to test.
Maybe could be my radio? im using HK htc one X in mexico, the 3G works great perhaps could drain more battery?
Any help i will apreciate thanks a lot, i love the phone but this sucks
Regards

Have you tried battery test, or safe mode?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA

screen on time?
Drain the battery completely and then charge for at least 8 or more hours, use the phone as normal and let it drain completely again and then charge for a minimum of 3 hours, after a couple of days it should last longer and if you can or need to upgrade to the latest OTA then do so.

well that is not really helping him is it. no point you telling him you getting that kinda of use of out the battery..it is like rubbing it in his face
but anyway 3g does drain battery specially if the signal is low and it is trying to find the best possible signal for you. only use it when you need it. same goes for wifi. for wifi i would have it to sleep when screen is off.
have a look in the battery stats thread and few people give tips in there on how to extend the battery life mate.

thanks, yeah i noticed some people have great battery life and i said NOOO WHY ME!!!! heh i hope its because battery its "new" but to be new sucks hard LOL, i have good signal, perhaps something weird i see its change from 3G to edge (i never had gsm phone on this carrier where im, i had a CDMA phone so idk if its normal, or signal sucks) so i figure out im having drop call just in 4:25
maybe coincidence idk maybe has something to do, any Radio to flash? or firmware? (safe and tested one please xD)
thanks a lot and i really apreciate all comments
thats why i love XDA
and yeah vladnosferatu slap in my face for great battery LOL

if i was you i would not let it drain completely..let it die down to say 5% i would then fully charge it like overnight. then go here install that apk and once you have fully charged let the battery drain again. once it drains to say 15% check what wakelocks you have. that will help you see where the issue lies and the battery gets drained..better explanation on the thread i gave you the link of mate

if your carrier still shows that you have updates then i would say do that as well mate. radio as far as i know we can not flash just as yet as we need s-off to do that so your best bet is the OTA if you are not on the latest firmware
Wait & see what the battery lasts like after a couple of days of charge & discharge, mine was poor on the first day.
I always try to charge mine up over night & my battery lasts on average 40 - 48 hours now.
The other day i had wi fi on & gps on read some of a book, 3 or 4 calls 5 messages & used a gps app for a while had just over 2 hours of screen on time & after 14 hours still had 60% battery left.
There is no reason why your phone wont get that after a couple of days, hope it is the case for you
Estoy orgulloso que tenemos mexicanos que tienen un One X
Hopefully as updates come, battery life will improve
I´ve been using the HOX for 5 days and it does get better after you run some cycles, but I still find it´s not as good as the battery life on the GS2 I used to have (I was running the Illusion rom).
With the GS2 I would leave the brightness at full blast, I would watch about 1 hour of video, I would use the calendar a lot, I would make a couple of calls and by 19h when I got home my battery would be around 80%. I do the exact same things on the HOX and I get a little less than 70% at the end of the day.

Have you tried running BetterBatteryStats?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
It may give you some idea of where the power drain is occurring. I've found it invaluable in the past where I've had battery drain and I couldn't see what was causing it.

Is this possible on phones with clockwork recovery? My phone turns on automatically when it's got some charge
