Hi guys, i am a newbie here.
Last night i was trying to root my desire using unrevoked. I followed the guide from XDA step by step and everything seemed fine until word "done" appear in unrevoked.
After that, desire supposed to enter recovery mode and clockworkdmod but there was nothing appear in the screen. My desire suddenly shut down.
Can you tell me what am i suppose to do then because i want to put custom rom in my desire and now there's nothing i can do because it can't enter recovery mode (it only able to enter bootloader or Android OS itself).
Thanks

when you are in boot loader, use the volume down key and goto recovery and git power button. you should then be taken to clockwork recovery. this is where you can select your rom from SD card and flash
I've tried to do that and now it stuck in HTC Logo. Doest it mean i've to try unrevoked again or simply unroot it?
try rebooting by taking battery off. i'm not an expert but you might have to do it manually using the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
did you install the unrevoked drivers?
Okay i will try. Btw, in case i want to unroot, can you tell me where i can get "RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.19.707.7_Radio_32.36.00.2 8U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126179" ? The link from XDA seems down and i can download any.
Me and another member have encountered the same issue, seems there's some bug in HBOOT or something.
Boot into Android, go to Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset. Once you confirm it, it will reboot your phone into Recovery.
BUT, unless you re-format (partition) your SD Card, you won't be able to get back in again (unless you do the Factory data reset again).
This seems to happen randomly. Right now I can get into Recovery just fine. But once the bug occurs, the only way to get it to stop is to format your SD card.
Now i am thinking to unroot it than trying to do the whole rooting step all over again. Can you tell me where i can get the RUU for HTC Desire Asia

Okay, i've done unrooting with HTC Desire RUU Asi and what happen now my SLCD is brick. I am really hopeless right now because guide for "SLCD Brick" doesn't even work in my phone because once again my htc can't enter recovery mode ><
"I am trying to use the guide from sprinker right now. Hopefully it will work"
when you are in hboot the volume down/up button work?
Hi all,
I also have the problem that I can no longer enter the recovery mode on my desire.
Basically, whenever I am in the bootloader menu (either by pressing vol-down+power, return+power, or via ROMManager) and then select "recovery" I get right back to the "fastboot" screen.
I tried uninstalling/installing/upgrading ROMManager and also tried flashing clockwork via the newest version of Unrevoked (downloaded yesterday).
Nothing helps :-(
What I didn't try, yet, is reformatting my SDCard or resetting my device via "Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset". (I don't want to install all my apps >again<; I'm also a bit afraid that I break something an then cannot even reflash using recovery).
Here is some more info about my device:
- Flashed rom: Leedroid 2.1a
- HBOOT 0.83.0001
- RADIO 5.10.05.23
I would be really greatful if anyone had a solution for this problem.
P.s.: in case I HAVE to reset/format: can I somehow make a backup of all my apps&settings?
Hi all, I have the same problem now.
Everything works, after s-off, except I can no longer enter Recovery - any solution?
I didn't find an easy solution. I had to do the following (some steps might be optional but I wanted to be sure):
- Formated SD card (ext3 and fat partition)
- Complete reset via RUU (RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_T2_Radio_32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09_release_137222_signed.exe)
- Using unrevoked to reinstall recovery rom
- Reinstalled my custom rom (Leedroid)
Now everything works.
BTW: via TitaniumBackup I could backup all my apps and data quite easily. Didn't expect it to work that well
thanks- what about s-off - is it working now for you?
"s-off" = ?
I Have a similar problem... I can't enter recovery. When i press "recovery mode", I just get a black screen with a phone and a "!" in it.
Have to pull battery to reboot desire.
I have formatted sd.
Quite annoying, cause I need to wipe my battery stats, and I don't know any other way to do it, than going to recovery.
I tried to update ROM to Cyanogenrom which was unsuccessful - just get boot loop.
I also get the same 'red triangle with exclamation mark on phone' icon when trying to go to recovery mode.
So now I have a Desire which boot loops and cant enter recovery mode ...
anyone know how to get out of this one?
This might work for you
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck
This should bring back your phone to stock. Root your phone again after it is done
i have the same issue. but i got stuck when trying to partition my sd card. Now i can't enter Android itself only the bootloader. But i also lost my clockwork recovery...
it keeps looping the HTC Quitly brilliant bootscreen... Forever!
i am now formatting my sd card with my pc. will i then be able to go into recovery again using a zip file from clockwork i found? using this:
fake-flash
Fake-flash is only possible with root access, you need to be rooted to use it. Basically, its a way to have recovery running on the phone without using a PC (making it safer as you are less likely to brick using no USB cable to push files, instead, you push directly from your phone). You can use "ROM Manager" from the marketplace to do this. Simply place the downloaded test recovery image on the phone and the downloaded rom zip (renamed to update.zip) and flash using ROM Manager.
Preperation
Download the fake-flash update zip from one of the links below
Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card (the name MUST remain as update.zip)
When you want to launch the recovery image
Turn on your device with 'volume down' pressed and select 'Recovery'
When the exclamation mark appears, press and hold 'volume up' then press 'power'
Select the second option, 'Apply sdcard:update.zip
That's it, ClockworkMod recovery should launch!

i'm having the exact same problem. i've tried fake flash and it does nothing for me, so does flashing the clockwork recovery image. the only one i haven't used yet is the downgrade...hope that will help
Hi, i've been using LeeDroid for a few months now and all has been well, however yesterday my Desire turned itself off and now won't come back on. Each time i try and power it up it freezes at the Alpharev S-Off screen. I went into the menu's with volume down + power, but i can't get into my recovery - it takes me to the same frozen screen as does trying to reboot etc. And i don't think it's being recognized by usb either. So i really don't know what to do now.. is my phone bricked? I was a complete noob before rooting and flashing a custom rom before, so now that i've hit a problem i'm clueless all over again. Any help would be greatly appreciated
can you use fastboot? If so just flash a new recovery and all should be fine... chill out it can be fixed

I can get onto the menu with the options 'fastboot, recovery, clear storage and simlock' if that's what you mean? The recovery option takes me back to my frozen alpharev screen, but i can get onto fastboot and after reading around i can get my pc to recognize it from fastboot usb from my pc using cmd.. Plenty of guides around man, good way of learning fastboot
to use fastboot you need to download several things. Instead of using fastboot with cmd, I'd just recommend using fastboot commander, which does the job for you. In order to use that however, you will need the adb drivers, and Java SDK.
Once you've got all that, simply boot into fastboot, run "fastboot commander.exe", go into the "misc" tab, wipe Recovery, system, cache, boot, and userdata. Once you've done that download recovery, navigate to the "Hboot, radio & Rec" tab on fastboot commander, select recovery, find the recovery.img you just downloaded, and flash it. Once you've done that just boot into recovery and install any ROM you want.
Thanks for the replies guys. I did what you said to do (using fastboot commander), and when trying to boot into recovery to install my ROM it froze again at the alpharev screen. I'm stuck again now. When the files show up as you turn on into fastboot, i'm getting this..

For any sense UI ROMs you would use the Sense HBOOT, remember to nandroid backup before you do so! because you might find that you get a bootloop after flashing the HBOOT.
And don't worry about asking questions! it's what we're all here for.
By the way if you don't know what different HBOOTs do: they change the partition sizes for /system /cache and /data. So by using a different HBOOT instead of the stock one you may get more storage for apps etc. if you choose one with a larger /data partition.... if that makes sense
Ok the sense one it is =)
Ah i see! Thanks for explaining cos underneath the nerd in me would have been wondering what it did lol.
Not sure how to get a nandroid done when i can't get into recovery though
I still havn't got anywhere with my problem, if anyone could advise me further i'd really appreciate it, as this is really stressing me out now.
The only screen i can still ever see is a frozen alpharev screen, and i still can't enter recovery. I've cleared everything using fastboot commander and flashed a new recovery which did nothing. Then i took the next advice and flashed a new hboot. The hboot has changed on my hboot menu (vol down + power) but still goes to the frozen alpharev screen when i try to go to recovery or turn the phone on. I then flashed a LeeDroid rom, which came up with an error at the end of it..
"sending 'zip' (173060 KB)... OKAY [ 23.469s]
writing 'zip'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)"
And that's as far as i've got.
Reading further i've been trying to work out how to flash a stock ruu to see if that works. However my phone was a branded Orange UK phone before so there is no ruu for that. So my question is, bearing in mind i can't get into the phone at all, how can i go about downgrading the hboot and installing a htc stock ruu. Can anyone point me to the right files i would need. I really don't know what i'm doing and i think the amount of searching i've been doing is just confusing me further

Hi.
As I can see the only way to restore is using a RUU to go back to stock then root and S-Off the phone again.
First: Preparation.
1. If you have a custom HBOOT (e.g.: 6.93.0001) you need first to flash the HBOOT Downgrader (found on alpharev site), then flash the RUU.
2. You will gonna need a Gold Card if your phone was branded.
Second: Starting
1. Make your Gold Card using someone's else phone (it has to be running Android) - the Gold Card is unique per SD Card, not per phone.
2. Use this tool to make the Gold Card: HERE
3. Guide how to make a Gold Card in Linux: HERE
4. get the latest RUU WWE 2.29.405.5. Extract the PB99IMG.zip file from the RUU: here it is how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 -2nd post.
5. Reboot in bootloader (Volume-Down + Power)
7. Select fastboot
8. Flash the HBOOT Downgrader (don't forget to check the MD5 of the file you have downloaded from alpharev)
9. Extract the PB99IMG.zip and put it on root of SD Card.
10. Reboot in bootloader (scroll to REBOOT and select)
11. It will automatically load the img and ask you if you want to install
12. Check Yes and follow onscreen progress.
13. Wait untill it finnishes
14. I think it will reboot itself, if not scroll down to the Reboot obtion and press Power button to select.
IMPORTANT WARNING!!!

Whatever you do, DO NOT turn off the device manually unless the software tells you to. If something goes wrong, dont switch off phone. Keep the phone on while trying a solution. Newer RUUs dont usually wreck a phone, and with a goldcard, you can always recover. But, the flash SHOULD NOT be interrupted by switching off or disconnecting the cable.
Always start with a battery with >50% power (full recommended).

Think i may be the happiest girl in the world today lol i finally got it all fixed. I had a bit of trouble making the goldcard as at first my sd card kept saying it needed to be reformatted after, but after formatting it with SD Formatter program rather than Vista's own, it worked. All the rest went without a hitch. Now just gotta root, s-off and grab my new ROM and this past week can all get forgotten about =)
Thankyou so much to everyone that helped!

I am able to access the bootloader screen, this is what is displayed, as I'm guessing as this was aid anyone who is willing to help me get my phone working again!

Since you are S-Off already can you now access recovery from the bootloader screen? If yes, then try to download a new ROM. There are a lot of ROMs on the developers section. Do a full wipe and flash a different ROM
I'm a noob by XDA standards but from the looks of it it's just a bad ROM flash.
because you're S-OFF this makes your job a billion times easier.. all you have to do is flash recovery.
unzip the file I attached into c:\
download recovery, rename it to "recovery.img" (for simplicity, you'll see later) and also put it in c:\
then follow these steps:
Go to start menu, accessories, command prompt
in command prompt type the following commands:
Code:
cd\
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot oem gencheckpt
you should now be in recovery, go to "mounts & storage" and wipe "system", "userdata", "cache" & "boot".
Once you've done that, simply flash a new ROM

If you're able to access recovery, it's a very simple task of wiping your phone and installing a new ROM.
If you for whatever reason can't, you will need to use a RUU to restore it to it's factory state, and root again.
Hi,
I have similar problem: I can boot to bootloader only.
I completed root and s-off process and installed new rom. Everything was great, but I didn't have enough memory for applications and I tried to partition SD card with ROM manager to enable a2sd. After I ran Rom manager, I found that RECOVERY options disappeared. And I decided to re s-off with alpharev and it was stacked at step 3 .
Is there still any option to make it alive?

check my guide and look at the boot problems section. I'm 100000% sure you can find your answer there mate
It all goes like this - I wanted to root my WPS to solve space problem, although, there was a solution for it without rooting, I figured I will be wanting to use some apps that need root access and some roms sooner or later.
So I did a search and found few ways to root my phone. Being a lazy ass I decided to use "the simple" one click solutions - gingerbreak (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765) or Root Unlocker (http://www.unlockroot.com/) This was no success. Gingerbreak kept rooting when I launched the app, but Root Unlocker displayed " FAIL TO GET SHELL ROOT". I figured that problem with Gingerbeak might be that I updated the software to the latest version -
Then I went on and tried another tutorial(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275). Everything was fine till I selected Recovery from bootloader. It got stuck with white HTC logo. Took out the battery tried to use newer version of ClockworkMod Recovery, but still was a no-go. I also can't do a factory restart. I can't do it from bootloader or settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset. (But could do it at first. Before trying to root my device I did a factory reset once.)
Is there a way to use another Recovery (not CMR) or force Recovery from fastboot? As I found there are some other people that got stuck with similar problem.
Other problems:
My phone doesn't show up in HTC Sync. Althought, when I tipe adb devices in cmd, it shows up. I did turn my AntiVirus off when I installed HTC Sync, but it still didn't display my phone.
I also found that I can't boot when I connect powered off phone to my pc. I have to take off my batery.
Here are my specs:
Model HTC Wildfire S A510e
It shows Marvel in bootloader.
Phone was S-OFF when I bought it.
Android 2.3.5
HTC Sence 2.1
Software number 2.26.401.3
I bought my phone without a contract from a local internet shop. I am from Baltics.
The phone might be somewhere from Europe.
My bet would be Poland. (guessing that manual language is Polish, but I might be wrong)
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE!
I took the original recovery img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426611 and flashed it. All went well. I did a restart (after doing this I was able to boot power my device while connected to pc) and had another try with CMR recovery, but it didn't work. I also I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406321 recovery img, but it didn't help, I still can't get into.
How to root Wildfire S S-OFF the easy way
First download this
Put it in your memory card
then press and hold voldown+Power
It will load the bootloader follow the instructions on the screen and update accordingly
Then Turn off
Remove that PG76IMG from sdcard
After that download this and put in your memorycard and update same way, it will flash the CMR5.0.2.8 (after flashing dont forget to remove this PG76IMG from sdcard as well).
Now download this put it in your mmc and flash this from recovery.
Done.. U have successfully rooted Ur S-OFF device Now In CWM do factory reset install new custom rom according to the way devs say. I can assure U that this process will even remove Ur white screen
im stuck too on the recovery s-on btw and bootloader unlocked

Download the rom. Put in ur sdcard.
remove battery
press vol down+power
press vol down
press power to select recovery
In recovery to move press vol up/down, to select press power
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced>> Wipe Dalvik cache then also wipe battery stats
Go back
Install zip from sdcard
Select the romname.zip put in sdcard
that should be it instructions are also found in that rom. thread so simple!!

I have the same problem. My bootloader is unlocked via HTCDEV.com, though with S-ON. In any case...
My WFS is running 2.3.5, it's A510e.
installed recovery image 5.0.2.8 via console (had trouble installing it from the SD card).
each time I attempted to go HBOOT > RECOVERY, my phone would reboot, but would be stuck in black screen with the nav buttons at the bottom lit up (HOME, MENU, BACK, SEARCH).
installed recovery image 6.0.1.0 via SD card, going to HBOOT > RECOVERY will restart the phone, but it freezes on the white screen with the green HTC logo
downgraded to recovery image 6.0.0.3 via console, same problem - frozen on the white screen with the green HTC logo.
at this point, I'm out of ideas, but it seems that recovery image is at fault here?

Is there a way to execute the ROOT.ZIP script on the phone but via the console on PC?

Nope didn't work. I reflashed each of the boot.img, system.img, and recovery.img, manually though, since the utility didn't work for me. To do this, I booted into HBOOT, then FASTBOOT, and ran commands from my machine "fastboot flash <image type> <image.img>", where <image type> is either boot, recovery, or system, and <image.img> is the corresponding image (boot.img, recovery.img, system.img).
It seems my recovery cannot boot from HBOOT. It simply gets stuck.
With clockwork recovery 5.0.2.6, the phone appears to shut off completely.
With clockwork recovery 5.0.2.8, the phone will shut off except the Android buttons at the bottom are lit up.
I don't know if I can use later CW recovery images, but I tried 6.0.0.3 and I get stuck at the white background with green HTC logo when attempting to go into RECOVERY. Downgraded back to 5.0.2.8.
However, I gave the HTC SuperTool v3 another try, and this time it worked. Previously was giving me errors.
So... to those that are stuck, boot your phone normally. Make sure to go into Settings > Applications > Development and enable USB debugging. Also enable 3rd party installs, just in case.
Then proceed to STEP 3 on this page http://www.htcwildfiresblog.com/2012/03/guide-to-rooting-htc-wildfire-s-235-s.html
For those who want more info, here's another thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725398
It appears that the latest Wildfire S has a slightly different firmware, possibly for the video chip, which causes the CWM Recovery not to work. Perhaps there'll be a fix released eventually, but for now you can follow the thread above for some possible workarounds and more info.
Try mg all in one tool. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697985
It should sort out you guys problems.

It appears that CWM 5.0.2.8 actually works, but it doesn't provide any output to the screen. With ROM Manager, you can automate starting into CWM Recovery and installing a custom ROM, so it doesn't matter if the screen is blank.
Hi guys I have a mytouch 3G slide and I was able to get the bootloader unlocked. However even before I unlocked the bootloader I was unable to get the phone to work it would stay at the mytouch slide splash screen. Im on the new hboot and a am able to get into fastboot and hboot. However when I click recovery in hboot it takes me to the tmobile slash screen and never gets into recovery. I have flashed the original recovery but still no luck. I can't reboot the phone all they way. Anyone know what's wrong?

Hey Moe92,
I'm pretty much in the same situation as you!
I was given a phone to fix that has water damage, the owner disclosed that up front and I can see this based on the moisture sensor on the device.
The phone boots up and is stuck on the splash screen with out any activity after this. This is the same screen that I see when trying to enter recovery.
The only thing the phone can do is go into fastboot and hboot. Let me make a list of all the activities I have tried to perform and what ended up happening. As of now I still cannot fix the phone.
Device Details in Hboot
Code:
ESPRESSO PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0002
MICROP-0620
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0102
RADIO-7.15.35.16
Dec 13 2001,11:34:01
The items I've performed so far are:
* Downloaded two different versions of ESPRIMG.zip and placed them on the SDCARD for the device. Neither loads up by the device and they both fail.
The MD5 hash for each version is: 892b885010563208edc3037dfec40425 and 9e80d53b4afa73ecf0d58f703831ac82
* Created a goldcard and tried to run the above two files with the same result.
* Tried to enter recovery from the device; ends up on the boot splash screen and hangs
* Tried to use fastboot to flash several recovery images: Clockwork 2.5.0.7, recovery-RA-Saphire-v1.7.0, recovery.img from the ESPRIMG.zip files
* Each time fastboot flashes the recovery sucessfully, but trying to get to it ends up with a boot splash screen hang.
I'm starting to believe the phone is bricked, or something occurred internally when it became wet. I have no idea what the software was on it prior to it being wet.
From your experience does this phone have any luck of being restored? I've spent two days looking over the threads and trying to avoid asking a question that may be answered; but have had no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually sometimes and this rarely happens... I can load into the welcome screen but everythine that happens, the phone is in safe mode. When I power down the phone it goes back to the splash screen and hangs there. I have to keep flashing the Tom many many time and pray that it gets into the welcome screen again.
BTW I can unlock the bootloader. Does anyone know what I can do after I unlock the boot loader?. I tried to flash zips via fadtboot but got the error where it cannot determine the signature. When unlocking the hboot, are there specific things I can do via fastboot? Please let me know. Thanks
I have also unlocked the bootloader by using the token provided by htcdev.
What zip did you try to flash to yours? I haven't tried that from fastboot yet. I only tried to flash each component of the ESPRIMG using fastboot with out any luck.
Moe,
Do you have any information on how to boot the device into safe mode?
I tried to use fastboot to flash an update.zip but that method did not work either :crying:
Does anyone have access to the ESPDIAG.zip for this device?
Ran out of ideas at this point .

well when i unlocked the bootloader. i then decided to relock it. once i relocked it. i went to the HTC website and got the 2.2.1 RUU. once the RUU downloaded, i reloaded the phone with the firmware and once it was done, it booted o the entire OS but it was in safe mode. i didnt press any buttons for it to get into safe mode. it went in by itself...
also when i shut the phone off and truend it back on, i was back in square one where i was stuck in the boot loader screen.
Also you can extract the original ESPRIMG.zip file from the offical 2.2.1 ruu. In order to extract the .zip file, you first have to run the RUU. Once you click on the Downloaded RUU program, let it run. once the first page of the RUU comes up, follwo the below directions to extract the .zip file. DO NOT flash the phone with RUU if you want to extract the .zip file.
Here are the step by step instructions
1. open my computer
2. click on the main drive. (for me it was the C: drive)
3. click on users
4. click on you computer name (the one that has the lock on it)
5. click Appdata. (appdata is a hidden folder. to un-hide it, click---> Organize/Folder and search options/view/ scroll down to hidden files and folders/ click on show all files and folders)
6. click on Local (NOT Locallow or Roaming)
7. click on Temp
8. when you get into the folder, sort the files to the DATE MODIFIED
9. when you have it sorted, you will see some folders such as ({95153F7E-B880-4656-B55D-54DD7869F984}), the name of the folders can and will be different. open each folder and when you come across a folder that has the ADB application, scroll down the folder until you reach the LETTER "R". you will then see a .zip file named "rom". copy that file onto the desktop or any other folder. rename it to ESPRIMG.ZIP.
10. format your SD CARD to FAT32. once the format is complete, copy/move the extracted rom/ESPRIMG.zip file into the sd card.
11. put SD card in the phone.
12. Hboot should then detect the esprimg file.
google for mt3srooter

Thanks! I'll check this out. Unfortunately I returned the phone to its owner, I'll have to get it back to see if I can resolve his issue.
