setting theme on boot - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

ive made a theme and cooked it into the rom but i dont know how to make it start with that theme as the standard theme.
any help would be useful, thanks in advance

i had this question too... so i think in the folder that contains the start icons must be a rgu with that reg entrie... then I think we must to add some entries in dsm files from base dpi96 themes dpi 96 resh resv and other where themes resides.
Will search around that folders for that RGU

ok, i thought it would be a registry entry somewhere but i dont know much about them so didnt really know where to start

if 6.1 you will use:
EXEC: \windows\cusTSK.exe \windows\HTC_BrandGREY.tsk
if 6.5 u would use TSK: \windows\HTC_BrandGREY.tsk

problem during cooking lvsw 0320

i have cooked successfully more than 10 roms, WWE vesion to CHS vesion, they all work fine.
but when i want to cook a new rom based on LVSW 0320 vesion, i failed. i found that the default.hv can't be transfered to txt file, once i edit this file, os can't boot and stick on the SubSplash screen. but user.hv can do that.
sorry for post this new thread but i have posted under lvsw's thread and no one answer me.
can anyone help me plz, i really like this ROM.
thanks in advance.
i had the same problem... then i came up with a briliant solutiion
you know the user.hv and initdata can be edited without any probs..also this version of the rom deploys the ext rom aswell.. so what i did was i edited config.txt and added a cab with the HKLM etc regs that go into default.hv into the dump folder and generated a rom with that cab inside..
and VOILA... now i have a custom rom with all my settings... i figured this way out after hours of frustratingly trying to edit the default.hv
hope this helps

thank u, i have tried ur solution, but there is a big problem, .cab file doesn't support chinese caracter, so edit default.hv is the only way.
dont know if this would help you but take a lot here :
www.asukal.jp/hv_rom/hive2.txt
or simply use Make_HV, found it in the development & hacking thread.
First covert the hv file to rgu (which is simply REGEDIT4 Format) then make changes and convert it back.

You don't need a .cab for this. The program that goes through Config.txt can handle XML files with registry settings directly. So, grab any of the .xml files listed in Config.txt as a template for your own .xml file. Then just add your new .xml file plus a line in Config.txt referencing this new file, and you're all set.
There's another solution which I found much more convenient: use bepe's Rom Kitchen, and import whatever ROM you want. If I'm not mistaken, it's even available bundled with a Chinese ROM already. There you can edit the .rgu files from which the Registry will be created. This eliminates the need to read any of the .hv files. Worked very well for me! Also, since bepe's kitchen recreates the packet structure of the ROM, it's so much easier to understand which files and registry entries have a dependency or belong together. Highly recommended!

it is for CHT but not for CHS, there is a lot of CHT roms yet, cooked or offcial, but there isn't a official rom in CHS, a just want to convert 0320 vesion to CHS vesion.
I will be watching this thread.
Waiting for good news.

Any Unicode-capable editor will do. Personally, I use UltraEdit.

Please don't take offense, but I'm starting to think you got the ROM as it is..."protected" that's why all the customizations are done via AutoRun.exe and xml files.
i found that lvsw 0325 edition can be edit.

Yes, 0320 can't be edited. But 0325 could. But you can't use the regular tools..you have to use the "more Storage" tool, then just manually copy the "default.hv" and "user.hv" from the "dump" folder, use the regular tool and covert it to .reg. Then you make modifications to the registry file, convert it back to .hv and copy them back to the "dump" folder..you can add files by just copying files into the "dump" folder..after you are all done with it, just continue with the "more storage" tool to make your new-os.nb

What if there is no InitCmd.ccs file? Trying to use TMO WM6 ROM. This is the same problem I had trying to use the other kitchens (I thought it was me).
Boo Boo looks almost like a clean ROM:
Tried anyways only removing the handango in hand links (two files) from the rom and built RUU_signed.nbh with os only. Flashed fine with no issues, but most T-Mobile specific apps/settings did not load and do not show in the startmenu. TMO homescreens, ringtones, favorites, etc did not get placed/installed correctly. MyFaves (HTC App) seems to have installed correctly although it tries to load TMO homescreen which is now in the Windows directory, TMO Internet Settings loaded, but the startmenu is laid out differently. Most TMO Customizations just got installed in Windows directory where they will not install (homescreens, ringtones, etc. don't work under Windows directory). The files are there, but the phone runs as if they are missing (almost like running the Brightpoint ROM). The only TMO customizations Visible are the Startup and Shutdown screens, and winwap. Somehow the TMO customizations did not get loaded, but everything seems to work fine.
Recommend the following changes to make the kitchen more universal.
added command to DumpOS.bat
ren *os.nb os.nb
changed filename in BuildOS.bat to os.nb
Just an idea since not all ROM's have the same XX_os.nb filename.
ROM Cooking Hints?
Hi Ricky, and thanks a lot for such a good work, and sharing your knowledge !!!
A couple of questions around ROM cooking ...
- How does ROM size affect WM? I mean, adding files, apps, etc. to the rom makes WM having less memory to run programs or store files, or run slower, for example?
- I guess adding more and more files might create a ROM that does not fit in the Excalibur and might break it if flashed. How can we know when to stop adding stuff?
Thanks!!

if you add stuff to the rom it will slow down the rom but not to much & if you take things out of the rom it will get faster
and if you add to much software then the kitchen will crash
How do you remove programs? What all do you need to delete to safely remove it from your phone?
Did my first attempt at cooking. IT was successful, and I am using it know, but some changes, such as files I added to the InitCmd.tgz worked, and were extracted fine. Other tweaks, such as changing a CPanel's contents and adding media to the windows folder did not work, and came out as if I hadn't changed anything at all.
Do I need to make Cpanel changes in two places (Initcmd and somewhere else?) Is there another step to making files "stick"?

Ok, I don't get it. Rick, or anyone, can you explain the work flow a little more? I can't find a user.hv, or a default.hv in the dump contents, nor do I know what to do when I do find them. I see there is a assembler/disassembler toolset in the kitchen, but it fails to find any .hv's either. Is there anything missing in the steps above?

you have to unhide system files what you have to do is move user.hv and default.hv to to edit user.hv&default.hv folder press disassemble.dat it the make to more files called HKCU.reg and HKLM.reg now download emediter freeware and save HKCU.reg and HKLM.reg UTF-16LE Now move HKCU.reg to notepad2.exe edit it then press save do the same for HKLM.reg then what you do is make a dump folder then press Reassemble.dat if there is no errors in the hv files then you will find user.hv and default.hv in the dump folder that you just made if the is an error it command prompt will tell you were the error is once dont move the hv files back to you dump folder
I think I got all that! Thanks a bunch.
Rickwyatt,
When I run Disassemble.bat it tells me it can't find the default.hv and user.hv file and then it tells me that there is no regedit4.txt file in the Resources directory.
I checked the locations of the files, and there isn't a regedit4.txt file but the default.hv and user.hv files are right where they are supposed to be. Any ideas?
[edit]
Nevermind... unchecked the "hidden" box on the two files... it still doesn't find the regedit4.txt that it's claiming is missing
Ok, so I successfully was able to use this to mod the 1.6 Rose ROM, but I noticed that the InitCmd.ccs looks far different. How do I edit the menu items in this ROM?
Specifically I am wanting to remove a bunch of stuff I don't use from the ROM:
- Orneta Calculator
- OMAP Clock
- Getting Started
- SMS Tool Pack
- Light Config
- Messenger
- Streaming Media
- Windows Live
- Resco Explorer
- CHome
Also if anyone can post the list of files that I would need to delete out of the exploded ROM for the above, that would be great... especially CHome.
I do want to give this ROM serious props. I love it! I just want to pare down the things I personally have no interest in using, but I don't want to delete the wrong files, and/or not remove the menu items in the ROM for them.
Rickwyatt,
The Disassemble.bat file keeps crashing. It tells me that regedit4.txt not found in the Resources directory. It creates a hkcu.txt and an hklm.txt file though.
open hkcu.txt hklm.txt then add REGEDIT4 to the top line then save rename hkcu.txt hklm.txt to hkcu.reg hklm.reg

Looking to dump a lot of the same things. If I remove them from the "dump" folder, is that the end of it or do registry settings need to be removed as well. First time doing something like this, thanks for the help and patience.
Instead of going through this tedious process.. why not start with a very light version of the ROM and just add what you need ?

ROM Kitchen questions;)

Hello all,
I have downloaded basic kitchen from Cyphol and I want to make my first simply-adjusted rom This is not Turbo Pascal programming that I did some years ago, so if you could help me that will be cool
As I can see extracted ROM is dividen in OEM & SYS folders, in OEM folders there are Packages directories with add-on aplications, and in all directories dsm and rgu files. My questions are:
- I want delete f.e. Welcome Center, so I must delete all folders in SYS containing Welcome Center and thats all?
- If I want delete for example FMRadio, I must delete all FMradio folders in OEM?
What if I want add some cabs to be installed in customization? What should I do (as I noticed dsm and rgu files must be in folders...)? I would like add an .exe file with EyeOnThief
If someone can help me or send good instruction HowTo i will be very happy
Thanks in advance!
TomekJ
Read up on Ervius package creator.

Have some questions i cant seem to find answers to.

im new to this cooking thing and wanted to make sure of somethings.
1. what exactly goes into the SYS folder? i read somewhere on the forums that the only folders needed in this folder are the .ROM, .VM, and the shell folder with the shell32 folder is all that is needed in there. is this true.
2. does the my programs and games i want to cook into the rom go in the OEM folder after i use the cab2oem program? oh yeah and where do i put the cab files that dont want to seem to convert?
3. what would i need to make my rom a RBSC rom and how do i get rid of the ULD partition?
4. where would i put the files in for like the different shells so that it starts up on these shells after it is flashed like for example: the iphone shell or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354866&highlight=SCLPF
I think thats about it. Oh and before you start scolding me and say "its called a search box" or "maybe you should look"...well just know that i have and cant find anything. I have been seeking these answers for about three days now.
Many answers to wich i know the meaning and knowledge...
1.-In sys folder goes all the OS Base...
What do i mean by this? well it depends on the kitchen you use... if ou can see on the kitchen of Josh its a modified kitchen betwen ervius visual and bepes platform rebuilder so not so much folders in it! the sys hs two folders more... 0409 and common... in this original kitchens you can do many lang OS or many devices OS, so thats why there is more folders than OLD School way... so there are so much folders in it like the office... the bronzeres the manilla 2d and many more...
in old school the OEM folders becomes sys when dump again the rom so imagine how many things must be on SYS!!!
the .rom .vm and shell and shell 32 is a way to port the sys... but is not ported well with this method. and yes that folders must be on SYS anyways.
2.- Yes exactly the programs you wish to add to the rom must be on OEM folder... and the cabs that dont wants to be converted into OEM must be in OEMOPERATORS to install them on first UC... you must to edit the config file like the SD config way...
3.-RBSC is related to the os.nb.payload... so get a dumped rom with RBSC and get it's os.nb.payload... and add it where this file must be... On ROM folder of the kitchen, to get rid of changing the ULD partition many people is working on it... so the modules can be added there to have more storage... wel its not so much i thing 3 MB of storage not RAM.
4.- Well dude that link is not a shell... but what do you mean by "SHELL"?
This is a program that emulates... the htc cube... that was an app too so it is not a shel but if you said you want a new theme... home plugin... or UI use them as it is a programm add it via OEM or cab thats all.
thank man that was really helpful that cleared my everyting up

editing registry
hi dreamtheather93;
my 12mb pp size untouched pdxbi1 rom is ready i will upload here soon.however i wanna learn how can i delete unnecesarry programs from rom like cnn or rss reader? how can i delete registry of these programs from rom? and last one, i knwo cab extractor and it produces everything when u extract cab file like nitflashfiles.txt, option.xml, .dsm and .rgu for the kitchen ROM. but how can i add these settings to rom? i know too much questions but i like rom cooking and i wanna learn it
once you've dumped your rom and segregated them into OEM/SYS folders, you'll see most of your packages in your OEM folder, sometimes some cooks put them into SYS folders too!
So, find the proggie, and just get rid of the whole folder with the app.
To edit registry, open the corresponding .rgu file in the folder in notepad and edit it.
I use PackageCreator2.7 by ervius to create packages, pretty nice and simple to use...search for it!
To build the OS/rom, I use PkgToolsBuildOS-5.3
I'm still stuck at a problem myself and i haven't found the time yet to get it working....
good luck m8, looking forward to your roms! cheers
