Soo... does Windows messenger not work over a Wi-Fi connection? Mine only seems to want to work over the data network (edge) Soon as i got the no-data installed and turned off the edge bands, it no longer wants to connect.
Anyway to tell it to use the Wi-Fi? or will i have to get a muilti chat client to connect to it?
That's odd. Messenger works for me via wifi. I turned off the phone radio, turned on my wifi, attempted to log in to Messenger, and it works.
I jus tried that to.. no luck. i just get "Their's a connectivity problem, make sure you're in an area with good reception and try again"
This might be an issue with your network selection.
Check in connection setting --> advanced --> select networks.

I am using vp3gs 3.61 rom with windows live messenger version 10.6.0031.2600. no matter what I do it won't connect on my WPA-PSK enabled router. I can connect fine to the internet.
Any special setup I need to do to get it to work?
Thanks for any help.
EDIT
Could someone on ATT disable the phone and use WIFI only and see if you can connect to LIVE?
I am using 10.6.0031.1600(older than yours) but I am able to connect to live services using the wifi with WPA-PSK.
I am using my own cooked rom.
Search in all the forums I remember some people had the simillar issues and had some 'workarounds'
Sorry I do not really remember.
I too also had a problem with .2600, reverted to .1600 and all is good over wifi. By the way, I'm using WPA TKIP on my wifi.
Tried that one too and still get the "there was a problem signing you in to messenger" error after checking internet connectivity.
try these ideas.
1 ensure your wifi settings are to internet and not work
2 ensure you dnt have the ip address set up in exceptions (these ips are only for intranet)
3 turn off your phone entirely. soft reset your phone. check that wifi is still internet and not work.
4 turn on wifi only. check that u have normal internet access. emails and hotmail etc work ok. then open messenger and sign in.
5 if you have to, use wlm switch user command and relogin.
this should work. once u have run and got it working, you can turn your phone back on and it should continue to use wifi and not 3g
s.

Still times out on checking internet connection.
I get email and internet fine. but no WLM.
I am using ATT. What should there be under Connections?
I have tried 2 My ISP and Media.net on My ISP it times out automatically, on Media.net it takes a while to time out.
Also did a hard reset to make sure that it wasnt anything I had installed. With the stock rom I still get the time out.
the proxy server u r using will b blocking that port.
I use telstra in australia, internet and push email works with proxy on, but wlm doesnt.
so i just turn off proxy and everything works except some of the telstra stuff which i dont want anyway.
proxy tends to give a garden firewall of their preferred content.
dunno how to deal with att, but suggest one of your connections should allow you to bypass the proxy styled firewall garden of att.
soz i dont have it to help u further, except to point u towards the proxy manager.
just to reiterate and emphasis the telstra proxy manager controls over rides and screws up 3g/next G connections AND my wifi.
only by turning this proxy manager off can i use wifi and 3g fully.
Thanks, there is a cab that disables the proxy on the att phone, so I disabled it, but that didnt help either.
Wlm 10.6.0031.2600
Hi, does anyone have the cab or installer for the latest WLM 10.6.0031.2600? Can someone post it or make it available for download? Thanks a million
Is anyone who has ATT able to use Windows Live Messenger?
Okay since WLM obviously doesnt work over wifi. How do you guys setup your outlook to get Hotmail?

Absolutely. I use it all the time. Mostly through 3G but sometimes through my home wireless network. Never had a problem.
Memnoch30, what version of WLM you using and do you have it set any special way in connections to use WIFI?
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem, I got an interesting PM stating another person has the same problem as I do. If someone else could do me a favor, turn off the phone in comm manager, but keep wifi on. Can you still connect to Live???
Anyone? Thanks in advance
Hi
Just try to keep the Red button pressed ~3s (it will cancel the GPRS connection) then Messenger will use the wifi one (i do like that since i use pocket msn).

Doesn't work for me, all that does is close out Live messenger.
anything else I need to try?
It doesnt work even if I turn off GPRS and leave wifi only.
I recently received a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 cell. I'm NOT paying for web service and would like to only use Wi-Fi. If I disable my data connection under the communication manager, would this mean that I will not be using T-Mobiles web service and only my Wi-Fi? Can I still receive calls/text messages when the data connection is set to off? Do I have to worry about the data connection setting automatically turning on by itself for whatever reason?

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Flipping that switch manually turns off your phone's 3G connection, and you can still make/receive calls/sms. However, as soon as some app or process needs a data link (ones that don't/won't use the wifi connection), it will flip that connection right back on.

Which apps do I have to worry about flipping the connection on? I only plan on surfing the web and I don't plan on setting up my e-mail account. I only want to text and browse the web using my TP2. Thanks for the response.

Well Google Maps for one, it insists on downloading through your 3G data connection even if you're connected to wifi. There may be others that will ignore a wifi connection and fall back on 3G, I don't know off the top of my head, you can dig around here some to see if there's any reference to that (I know I've seen it, just don't have it bookmarked)
Yes, some apps are automatically enabling the data connection.
My solution:
go to Settings > Connections >
and delete the 'data connection' for your provider.
Their you could also go to advanced and choose which networks will be used for what type of connection; play with it.
The data connection isn't used for 'calls', only if you are calling over IP (skype e.g.)
With a program like SPB wireless monitor, you can see which connection has used how many bandwidth.

How do I go about deleting the data connection from my provider? I'm lost!
There is an easier way. Use the Modoco NoData cab and it turns off the data connection until you turn it back on. This way if you decide that you want to use the data later you dont have to find out and enter your settings again.
It works very well.
For those who want to restrict the data to thier home carrier ie: no roaming the Dynamic+ NoDataInRoaming is ideal as it automatically switches on and off when you enter and leave your home area.
I've stumbled on a strange issue.
If I switch the Desire to the Airplan mode when the Data connection is off (I use the appropriate HTC Data connection widget to do this), when I switch back to Airplan mode off, the phone is no more able to restore the data connection.
The only workaround found is to restart the phone.
Has anyone got the same experience?
Two questions.
1. When you say you switched off data connection, are you talking about syncing, wifi, mobile network, ... etc?
2. Why do you want to switch off data connection and turn on Airplane Mode? Doesn't Airplane Mode cater for shutting down all wireless?
1. I'm talking only about the "Data connection" option on "Wireless and networks" menu, that is switchable via a special HTC widget. Switching this option off, the phone is no more able to access to the GPRS provider. I often keep this option off to save battery life. I turn Data connection on, if I need to sync and access to Internet.
2. This is not the matter, just it happens. Eg. When I go to sleep, I turn the Airplane mode on, doesn't matter if the Data connection is on or off (it is possible that it is on) in order to avoid any disturbs (calls, sms, etc.).
I just wonder if this issue is a true bug of the phone:
1. Switch off Data connection
2. Switch on Airplane mode
3. Switch off Airlplane mode
4. Try to activate Data connection (for me it seems it's not possible without a reboot)
Had a similar problem which I wrote to HTC about: after the phone has been data connected via wifi and I leave the wifi network it often will not connect to data via mobile network (GPRS/3G), giving the message "connection failed" if I try to manually connect in the "mobile networks" section of the "wireless & networks" settings page.
It seems to have fixed itself now, and I think it's because I've since ticked the option to "enable always-on mobile data", which I had turned off to save battery. Give it a try.

Thanks yurikg, but on my phone the "enable always-on mobile data" option is checked, anche there is no mobile network connection problem coming back from a Wifi connection.
The problem I shown is probably caused coming back from Airplane mode.
The other possibility is Juicedefender which apparently is known to cause problems recovering a mobile data connection (recent update may have fixed this):

I've not juicedefender on my Desire...
I've in plan to do some other tests...
I have a problem with my Desire reconnecting to a mobile data connection too, but not when I come out of 'plane mode, its when I leave a Wifi covered area. It could be the same problem, triggered by anything that disables and then reactivates the data connection?
I have no solution yet, and I have contacted HTC support about it (still no reply). There is some discussion here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656192
I seem to be having this problem too when coming off WiFi connection, unfortunately restarting the phone has not righted the issue...
I'm also having this problem with the connections. Fine on the wifi at work and at home but not switching over to the mobile network. Apart from that the phone seems awesome! Soooooo much better and more fun than the HD2.
OK, my phone appears to have no network connection whatsoever in fact...
Have the same problem as well. Coming from Wifi and to mobile network only - I do not get any data coverage. This is for the Desire and I had the same problem with Legend.
I hope this will be worked out ASAP.
Well, my problems all sorted. Turns out I had to manually input the APN for internet, took me by surprise since no phone I've owned since 2006 has needed that...
Just had to put in the settings manually too. Seems there is an issue with some of them. Would put a link here but as i'm a newbie not allowed Just google vodafone apn settings for htc desire and hey presto
Same problem here, my Hero had it too. I found it did work when you switch to gsm only and back to 3g/gsm... Would love to hear good solutions.
Im also having the same problem.
If i try switching my connection from wifi to mobile data, my mobile data connection fails to work. A power cycle fixes the issue but if i try switching connections again, the problem returns.
Can I suggest to anyone still having problems getting their phone to switch to mobile data when leaving Wifi to view the following bug report on Google Code and to star it to help raise the priority with Google:

I have a U.S. Cellular TP2 working well with T-Mobile (Radio 2.32.00WU) except that the HTC Weather GPS Location doesn't update when it's connected with normal Data plan. It just updates when it's connected to a Wi-Fi connection. Google Maps works fine with either Data or Wi-Fi.Tried many tweaks and cabs on this forum and still nothing. Maybe it something trivial but I don't know what is it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Set your connection correctly under all setting-connections My work network should but be selected.

What? My Work Network settings are empty. What does this have to do with GPS Data?
What do you mean I need to select My Work Network where? On Connections/ Advanced tab, Select Networks. Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network ? Like it was on default? That doesn't do anything.

It sounds like your data connection is not set up. The advanced tab should point to the data connection, not the Work connection.

The data setup works well enough. I was just asking the previous poster what did he meant by selecting My Work connection.
I have several more weird problems with my Tilt 2 which has been flashed with the WXW version 2.10.50212114. I just moved to Dallas and the weather on the home page shows Houston instead of Dallas. Before wherever I was at I would get that weather.
Another issue is since moving to Dallas I cannot get my personal e-mails on my phone. It just runs and runs and finally errors out. It also hangs up when disconnecting. I do not know if this is a phone issue or an AT&T mail issue. I have a Bellsouth e-mail address
One more issue is whenever my phone and the bluetooth in my truck connect the phone goes to my music on my phone. This seems like it would be a phone issue.
Any ideas?
I was able to get my e-mail working, but have not been able to resolve the other two issues.
Any ideas out there???

For the weather problem, try updating with the 3G radio disabled in Comm Manager.
For the Bluetooth issue. all I can say is that some radios play better with different devices.
There is not a setting for the 3G radio on Comm Manager. Below is what is there.
Airplane Mode
Phone
Bluetooth
Wi-Fi
Microsoft Direct Push
Data Connection
Wifi Router
Everything is on except for Airplane Mode and WiFi Router.

Well, I don't know which ROM you are using, but the setting can also be found in Start > Settings > Connections > Advanced Network. There should be a drop down box there. Set it to Disable. This will make it so the device only connects to GPRS or EDGE networks. This should allow you to update the weather location without a problem.

I found the setting and disabled it. This disabled HSDPA/HSUPA. I then did a reset, but it is still showing Houston instead of Dallas which is where I am right now. Checking the GPRS setting it is asking if I want PAP or CHSP authentication.

If that still isn't working, then the only other things I can suggest are to ask your carrier to reset your connection to the network, or input the location manually. JVH3 made a Weather City Editor app that will add cities to the list if Sense doesn't have them by default.
