hi vibranze,
thanks for your contribution, will try it out later today.

Hi Vibranze,
managed to try out the rom, and here's some of the possible ideas you may want to take...not whinning here, since i reverted back to a original rom after that. Just hope to help you make something better.
1. softwares like resco explorer and photo viewer are great, but when i try to register them under my username, it seems to be unable to stay registered. You can probably provide auto installation for the programs, but not auto registration, since not many users go by the name of vibranze Same situation for handy task.
2. you could probably insert TCPMP for users to use, since its probably the best video player out there.
3. inclusion of a battery bar similar to the one used by SPB pocket plus. its definetly something useful for p525 users out there, since the battery life for the unit is not amazing.
thats all i can remember for now, but its a great 1st time effort. i look forward to the second rom, if there is any.
cheers

Hi Raven,
Thanks for the time for testing my ROM and the constructive comments, appreciated it You owned an Asus P525 too?
1. Yes, this is what I want to find out too. I tried Sorg's ROM and found that the owner's name is empty but the resco explorer is already registered to Asus PDA and it stayed registered even I fill up the owner's name. Any idea how to achieve it?
You mentioned auto installation, but after you install you still need to register it. By putting them into the ROM, you just need to change the name and re-register it, safe the installation step.
2. I tried to put it in but there is not enough space for it, maybe need to figure out what other files that can be deleted. I'm considering coreplayer since it has less files and all the plugins is already built-in.
3. Yes, I will put in the battery status indicator. Do you know any of them that light in footprint and free?
I would like to find the free useful apps with small footprint to incorporate into the new release that will coming soon.
Help me test it again, ok
Cheers,
Vibranze

1. He cracked it.
2. Core player is still missing a lot of feature compare to TCPMP.
3. I personally prefer Wisbar Lite and it's included in my customized rom. But if you want something even lighter. U can try pBar here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284952

1. Yeah, I also registered it under my name but when I change owner's info, then I need to re-register again. This is not the case with Sorg's ROM, wonder how he cracked it
2. I decided to use TCPMP0.72RC1 with all the plugins mentioned in pxdxa.com
3. I've got battery status ext, it's a freeware. It can display incoming outgoing calls duration as well as sms.

Hi Vibranze,
Glad to see that you are trying to come up with another rom, am looking forward to it. Yea, i've got a P525 too.
Celedial is a useful alternative, but is it possible to add in Smartdialing instead? I recall seeing a helpful forumer posting some must have apps for P525 and this was included.
Also, the WM new menu found in other roms from Jackleung and Sorg is pretty useful as well. these are the suggestions i can come up with at the moment.
hope this helps,
cheers
Raven
Hi Jackleung,
glad to see you here to give out pointers. have enjoyed your customized rom alot but sorely missed the E-java program, which made me revert to a normal rom, but kudos to you.
cheers
Raven
Smartdialing "was" a must have but Celedial beat it for smaller footprint, faster response time, better and more user friendly search (e.g. search by number, random search instead of search from beginnng). And it's compatible w/ Eten's phone skin DLL (smartdialing is not) so that you can customize yr dialing skin freely.
For E-java, I never run Java on my P525 and that's why I remove it. And you can always install it back later.

hi raven,
glad to know that you are also one of the p525 owner
i just released a new version, kindly check it in the first post. already included the apps you mentioned
personally i also feel that celedial is better and nicer than smartdial, only 1 dll file so it's very small in footprint.

Just one suggestion, it may not be wise to remove Windows Media player because TCPMP doesn't fully support MMS protocol. U need that to listen to streaming media.

Oh I see, noted. I removed it because of space concern. Later on I found that by directly add/delete files via dump directory can take more files rather than using addfile and delfile command, not sure why but this is a fact

hi jack,
I found this tool called CeleSetup (http://www.yonsm.net/read.php?300), looks like a new way to build and customize ROM.
My chinese is not that good so I'm a bit blur after reading the whole article. You may want to read and try it, then post another great article on building ROM using CeleSetup

initially, i thought all the apps (including the lnk and registries) can be compressed in .tgz file and only run when they are being called but this is not the case.

Thanks!
I always feel like such an outsider way out here in AT&T land! Thanks for the special attention. Downloading now!
Here's where I get to show my stupidity!
All the other ROM I have flashed have come with a utility to run the process. I tried replacing a previous rar file with this one and running the utility I had, but it changed nothing. I have read all the guides, the step by steps, etc, but the info seems to be for full packetsm not how to insert a new rar. I am dense. I am uneducated, I am sorry!
Thanks Shodowmite. It's good to have someone taking care of us ATT dudes.
What is the difference with other ROM ?
Is there something specific for AT&T ?
Sorry if the question is stupid, but I don't know AT&T particularities... ;-)

ok, have you flashed hard-spl on your phone before? If not, search for it and flash it! Next, you need winrar or some other file extraction program to extract the rar file (a compressed folder) to get the files out. Then you'll find the installer files inside, you run the exe... Hope this helps.

Mainly the big thing is this includes by default the sms/mms and data/proxy settings for cingular/att's network. You can use this rom with another carrier, but you'll need to delete those settings or install you own over top of them.
It's the little things
Thanks for the patience with my idiocy. I got WinRar and am flashing now.

We all have to learn at some point, I was no better when I started long ago... Don't worry about it and just learn at your own pace... Hope you like the rom!
I've updated to Shadowmite 1.1, while this is still a "beta" if you will, it's perfectly stable and appears good. Use this one if you want the HTC Home Plugin available... I've also removed windows live and streaming media in this version:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43857196/Shadowmite_1.1_beta_0.rar.html
Thanks. Good job. Downloading.
Ive had it running for a few days now and have noticed marked improvement on battery life. My only challenge has been running out of program memory during IE sessions. I run MemMaid and clean up, then I can go again, but I'm wondering if I have something set wrong.
Hmm, not sure, but I will be releasing another version maybe tomorrow with a increased available program memory using a 4mb pagepool instead of the stock 6mb.
Slightly off topic but is there a way / application to load apps & information in one go after flashing a new rom or is installing all the cabs one by one the only way.
Thanks in advance
S
Well, dunno if it helps much, but my HTCustom app, which is in my roms has a CABS button which allows you to choose a folder and it starts all cabs in it to be installed for you... but it needs human interaction.
In other news, the rom is ready and uploading now...
Version 1.1 is posted, now with 4mb pagepool, should increase your program memory a little and make it perform a little more quickly. I think this is about perfect now, let me know!
Nice ROM, but...

Hi, A very nice looking ROM - for which... thanks!
BUT... I keep getting... "An unhandled error has occured in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell [ok]". Soon as I hit the OK, phone reboots.
Now, to help u diagnose... I have installed NOTHING on top of your ROM. Only change I made from stock is I removed your Cingular settings .cab and installed the standard HTC ones for my UK Vodaphone network. (Actually, I was getting this error BEFORE I even removed the Cingular .cab)
Only other thing I can say is, I also unchecked the BatteryStatus plugin from the Today items (as I don't like it or need it... or do I, with this ROM? Maybe I will re-enable it a while...)
That's all. I'll try and stick with this ROM as it's the kind of thing I've been working on for myself... nice, clean and tight... but I've had no time recently to develop ROMs so it's easier for me to run with your work and let you do the head scratching!! Still, a nice effort so far - thanks again!
Moz.
Weird, I've never seen that error. I hate to say it, but could you start with the rom freshly flashed and tell me anything I can do to cause this to occur? Or is it random? I do run the battery status plugin on mine (very useful info, especially the current draw) but I've just removed it to see if I can get the error.
Let me know if you have any procedure I can try to get this error.
Also, you removed the cing.cab and then installed yours and ran it? That should be fine as the only cingular branding is that cab being ran after the welcome.
Fixed it... I think!
Ok, so it seems to be your 1.51 version of the HTC X-Button task manager. I always set the "End progs by tapping X" (not the default tap-and-hold option..) The previously mentioned error only ever happens when I'm tapping X to close down something or other... So, I installed my own .cab of this app (v1.5 build 29196) and all is now fine!
I'll probably do a fresh flash of your Rom tomorrow (its 2am now here) just to be sure, but I think I'm right in saying that your implementation of the x-button app in rom does not give the x-button icon in /start/settings/system... (i now have this by virtue of my reinstalling the app...) I think this icon *is* needed because if you choose to turn off the x-button "shortcut" thingy in the today screen there would otherwise be no way to get back to the x-button option settings.
Hope this helps...
Moz.
a-ha, I got the error now myself, but only if set to close app on clicking the X and furthermore then closing a system app that is running from shell32.exe. For some reason my entries of immune apps aren't being taken as immune. I'll look into this. Good catch!
The program however is in settings, system and is listed as task manager...
Ok, here is the fix, just install this cab (reg entries only) and it'll be working after the next soft reset... I'll figure out why this didn't work from the main hive before the next release.
Here's my Naked 5 ROM. It includes the following:
Windows Mobile 6 Professional CE OS 5.2.1620 Build 18128.0.4.4
Camera 4.0 build 28276
Arcsoft MMS 4.2
Internet Sharing
AT&T Black Stock Dialpad (3G in next post)
10 Button Black Comm Manager
Comm Manager Vibe Toggle
8525 Keyboard Mapping
PreConfig launches SetHSDPA & SetAccousticParameters.
Points to note:
Button 5 is mapped and ready to use / PTT is disabled
It uses Bepe's Big Storage OS.nb/XIP v3.60 and is based on a stripped version of austinsnyc Lite ROM (with permission - thanks dude!)
It does not launch extended ROM or storage card installations, nor does it include a radio, IPL/SPL, splash screens, extended rom, or anything else. JUST THE OS.
Memory Details:
Storage Free: 80.04
Program Free: 30.49
(Launcher and poutlook.lnk removed from /Windows/Startup - nothing installed, after reset and fully rebooted)
I would recommend you install the .NET Framework after flashing, as I did not include 2.0 or 3.5 in the base and some programs you install / use may require it to work. See the next post for links / downloads.
Why? I wanted a super stripped and fast base to add my cabs to with a crapload of storage. I don't have the time to keep tweaking my custom rom configuration, so this will give me the most flexibility and performance.

Using KarhU's stats, I put together this build based on performance statistics. It's clean and fast - and should run as fast (if not faster) as the best one's out there. I should have started a new thread - as it's a whole new ball of wax - but it's look and feel is exactly what I started after.
Here's KarhU's great thread on benchmarking. I've learned a lot from his work - it's an excellent asset for tuning
KarhU's Benchmarking Thread
Note too that I didn't include the .rgu files. Please use the kitchen if you want to use the components.
Evolution History
Pandora Naked 1 - 3 was based on the Kitchen version 9.5, but had a problem with PIE speed
Pandora Naked 4U was based on austin's rom release, but setacousticparameters didn't launch correctly and was missing a few notification alarms

Additional Cabs for ROM
Here's the .NETFX and SQL CE files:
.NETFX CE 2.0
.NETFX CE 3.5
SqlCE 2.0
SqlCE 3.0 (already in ROM)
Here's some items I've found on the forum, or in the case of the Random Access package, I built a cab for it and included the registry settings to integrate it into the dialer / hard button 113.
Hi, is this a 3.60 ROM, or a newer ROM with bebe's 3.60 mod?
Does it include 3G-Dialer?

It uses bepe's modded 3.60 OS.nb/XIP, and it does not include a 3G dialer.
I retained the HTC3GVT.dll within the rom in case you have your own 3G version you want to use.
*Edit: The dialpad you install needs to have all the components, including the dialpad and smartdial dll's, to use with 3G.
Hi,
I'll give it a try as I'm fed up of several troubles had with cooked in apps-
You advise to install .NET Framework 3.5 cab FIRST? That is, before installing the ROM? I'm surprised but will do as you say.
Thanks.
EDIT: Well, I was unable to install it first, as it says the version is not intended for this device...

The same here, then I took the .wm. version, that works with my Hermes. How did you manage to install it???
I was unable to install it neither before, nor after installing this ROM.

If you use the CAB-file with .wm. in it (NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab), it should work..
You'll find it at ftp://ftp.servage.net/Upload/Micorosft .NET CF 3.5 RTM/CABS/

hi Matt,
I wonder: if you install everything afterwards using cabs, will this use more memory or will it be the same as coocked in ROM? In other words: do cooked-in programs use the same memory (size and type) as CAB-installed programs, as far as you know?

Sorry for the cab mistake, I'll fix the reference in the first post and make it clearer. I meant to say "after flashing, install the .NET framework before installing any other programs."
As for the memory comparison, the total space consumption is about the same, but you don't have the extra dsm and .rgu files, and the files are installed to the correct target directory, rather than all residing the windows directory - increasing file system performance (at least while browsing the contents of the /Windows directory anyway).
Edit: Updated context of post 1 and redirected link to original thread on .NET topic.
Whoohoo!!! 2 stars! I think that just made my whole day
I truly feel honored and quite special.
'Tis easier to complain than to provide fixes...
Mods - feel free to delete. I'm going back into my cave now.
Frickin about time...awesome rom. sdhc support I hope? So glad you left out netframework 2.0 as I hear installing 3.5 without having 2.0 cooked in prior boosts performance by 20%.
Device just rebooted, time to test =)
Directories seem take forever to load in file explorer.
Edit: Soft-reset seemed to fix that. Now navigating through directories seems much quicker than previous rom. Overall the device seems 2x as fast as my last rom. I had like 5 programs opened and running and still navigating through the start menu and then settings/programs screen was instantaneous. Great frickin rom so far.
hi mattk_r ,
I love this rom!
is there a way to get the kitchen files?
so i can build my own rom based on yours with the buildos tools like in the older pandora version? of course i would share my work to others

The only time I've seen this issue with after running PIM Backup and restore my phone settings. After restoring, it's super slow until I reset, then all is fine. It's done it on every rom I've used.

Thanks for great ROM, will try it out sometime. PIM backup hogs up cpu after restore, i usually let my phone sit for a while, and then it finishes whatever it does. I used to softreset the phone as soon as i restore, but not anymore. I think it mainly hogs the cpu after call log restore, if there is call logs of 100 or more..

I posted a 3G dialer that works in the first post
Here's a new ROM for the Excalibur cooked on the new 20282 core and the system partition from the newest HTC smartphone, the S740 "Rose".
This is a WWE (world wide English) only ROM.
Applications included in this ROM are:
- HTC Album
- Tegic T9 with English available
- TMobile Dash keyboard layout file by default
- Adobe Reader LE
- HTC Audio Manager
- Automatic GPRS settings application
- Windows Live
- Windows Live Messenger
- HTC Streaming Media
- Office Mobile
- HTC Weather
- The new HTC dialer application
- HTC CommManager
- This ROM is "UC" (user customization) capable!
- Chome Configurator
- So much more...
This ROM includes the new sliding panels from HTC, which open up a world of opportunities for customization.
INSTRUCTIONS for flashing:
1. Run the downloaded exe. It should automatically unpack and present a black command prompt window.
2. Make sure you remove your storage card from the phone before the next steps.
3 .Follow the instructions in the black window. Do NOT reboot when the SDA unlocker tells you to reboot the phone. It's not necessary.
4. You might get a prompt asking you if you want to run the spl program. Just say yes. At that point you should get a white screen.
5. If for any reason you're not seeing a white screen, you did something wrong and you need to try again.
6. Flash the ROM following the instructions in the flashing utility.
You can expect the phone to be "stuck" on the HTC logo for about 2 1/2 minutes the first time. After that, it should only take about 40-45 seconds for the phone to reboot.
INSTRUCTIONS for recovery in case something goes wrong:
Turn your phone completely off. Pushing the camera button in, plug in your usb cable. The tricolor, bootloader screen will come up and you can flash your regular OEM ROM which can be downloaded from one of the stickies.
I recommend flashing the modified bootloader made by jockeyw2001. It's attached to this post.
What it does is, it CID unlocks your phone, so you don't have to use the softSPL everytime you want to flash a ROM. It also makes recovery from a bad flash much easier, where you dont have to hunt for your original manufacturer's ROM to load in order to resurect the phone.[/CENTER]

Cool...
I'll wait for teh superlite before I test it though.
many thanks for this...
Appreciate it.
If you guys/gals find any bugs, NOW is the time to report them, before I release the next version... Thanks.
Nice rom, it seems really fast man. Thanks for this once again.

Oh mine did not have any problems with t9...
Thanks for putting this out! The ROM does seem a bit quicker and I'm not seeing any bugs.
Wow, I'm still running Rick's Kavana Remake V18... I've been waiting until most of the bugs have been worked out, but now that you mention a superlite version tempts me even more. Keep up the good work man!

Hmm interesting. I installed that cab over 1.4 and the tab key DID behave like it's supposed to. I will make sure to integrate this fix in the next release (including the lite release).
I went to find the t9 file mainly because there was no predictive text showing up for me after I flashed this ROM twice. No matter the cause, this seemed to fix it up. One other thing though, the ROM doesn't seem to make any changes when I add the cpr entry to make it show the day of the week, is there something I'm doing wrong?
Last 'problem' is whenever I choose Chome slim, I never have gotten a slim programs list like I see in your screens. Does my phone hate me?
Thanks for your work by the way

Hmmm I never use predictive text, so I guess I never noticed that anomaly. The cab should fix it though...
These new ROMs have a different system for editing CPR files. The CPR file is actually declared in the home.xml file found in application data/home. You have to edit one of those files, declare a custom cpr file and then go drop that file in the \windows directory. OR, you could just edit the HTC cpr file that are already in the windows directory.
Again, with the slim panels, you have to make sure the OS knows about them. THe easiest way is to rename the slim CPRs to the HTC cprs and just overwrite the htc cprs in \windows.
is there any way to set the directory in HTC Audio Manager?
Superlite?! Inquiring minds want to know.

Very cool, downloading 1.4 right now. Sent you a PM as well about a separate matter.
Superlite?
When is it coming?
New 3VOLUTION series ROMS! I cooked up these ROMS with packages from the new HTC SNAP. The new 3VOLUTION series of Smartphone ROMS will give all new life to our older devices. And since the CAV has a pretty fast CPU and descent RAM, it runs very well. Give it a run and please report any bugs found.
This ROM only flashes your phones Operating System and Splash screens. Your radio is seperate and will not be modified. I have not tested this ROM on Dopod devices, only HTC. Please flash, test, report, and enjoy!
Included in the ROM (basics for now):
* All new Phone Canvas and HTC Sliding Panels
* Some customized splashes, backgrounds, and icons
* HTC Weather Panels (6.1)
* HTC Album and Comm Manager
* HTC Camera and Camcorder
* New HTC Dialer
* Internet Explorer 6.0 (with mouse pointer!)
* New HTC Inner Circle Application
* CeleTask and CeleCmd
* All new Settings for better customization
* CHome Configurator
* Office Mobile
* SIM Manager and Task Manager
* USB to PC
* Adobe Reader LE 2.0
* ClockOnTop Application
* ROM is Application unlocked
* (Removed Windows Live for now, I can re add it later)
Current known bugs:
* 6.5 ROM has a Homescreen bug, please see workaround below
* The Cavalier hardware has major bugs. No OS newer than 19XXX will run correctly. Use Version 0.99 for a stable WM 6.1 release.
I know that for some, as for me, the Bluetooth problem is major. If anyone wants to take a stab at it and help find a fix, by all means, please do! I think it has something do to with btdrt.dll not registering properly.
Flashing instructions (Remove the SD card!!):
1. HardSPL Recommended! See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398945
2. Download and unzip the file
3. Run RomUpdateUtility.exe
4. Follow the prompts
5. The flash will take about 8-10 minutes
6. Upon first boot, it will seem frozen for a few minutes, maybe even go black. This is NORMAL!
7. Enjoy!
In case something goes wrong:
1. Remove the battery and the SD Card--> Put ONLY the battery back in.
2. While holding the camera button, press the power button
3. The multicolor boot screen will pop up
4. Plug in the USB cable and flash back your shipped (HTC or Dopod) ROM
5. Find out what went wrong and reflash this new ROM properly

One small problem
Love this ROM, looks great, works very well for the most part, only one small problem I've found so far. When I open the start menu it shows recent items, but when you use the left softkey to open "All Programs" the button flashes, but nothing changes, you are just stuck at the recent items menu. You can't get to any other installed apps... Would love it if a fix were available...
More info
I am using the DOPOD C730. Just for the heck of it I re-flashed the ROM to my phone. That did seem to fix the issue, now when I press the "All Programs" softkey, the menu expands and shows all installed programs. Confirming that bluetooth does not work with this ROM on the DOPOD C730 either. WiFi works ok, and other features seem good. I'll report anything else I find as well. So you guys can ignore my previous post about the programs menu, its working after a ROM re-flash.
ROM expires?
I just rebooted my phone and noticed that this ROM appears to expire. I get a message saying this concludes the beta test of this software. I can't get past it and am going to re-flash the original ROM for now. Looking forward to a final build of this ROM to use!
I've got the same problem as joe- I'll bet htc put an expiration date on the rom. One (temporary) workaround would be to set an incorrect, earlier date, I suppose. But otherwise, an awesome rom! Great job!

oh, and also none of my apps seem to be able to use data. I did auto configure for at&t, and IE can get online, but neither skyfire, facebook, or seven email seem to be able to use the data connection.
Good to know that this ROM has a Time Bomb. On the other hand, how's the battery life?

This might be due to the Home Screen timeout issue I am battling. Goes to "the layout cannot be loaded" after letting it sit at idle for a while. Try unchecking the "show recent programs" box in Home Screen settimgs. I am working on a permanent fix. Uploading another test version right now for you guys to try. Bluetooth fixed!!!!
