Is there a way to change a button on the keyboard (for example, the mail button) to TAB?
That way, we could press TAB to move from form to form when filling them out in a browser.
But most importantly, we could now use the ALT + TAB shortcut to switch between apps when in landscape mode?
Any suggestions?
The up/down arrow keys move the cursor from field to field.
Alt+tab would be nice but which key are you remapping to be the Alt key?
I've also posted on a similar topic, and a solution seems to be to modify the keymap files in the Windows folder.
See here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537818
The files are called like :
eT9.Rhodium.XXXX.kmap.txt
and for France, it is eT9.Rhodium.040C.kmap.txt. This was easy to find because it's the only AZERTY one, I don't know how you find the right one otherwise.
I tried for my "ç" problem (have "FN" + "c" give "ç"), and it works. I think it will work for "tab" instead of "message" (what a totally useless button...). You just need to know the "OX" code tab I think
On the way past, thanks to those you hepled me find this... Thanks to this, I can map many usefull buttons (as "FN" is free for about 10 keys, that gives me 10 free buttons to set).

I already have an ALT key as I lack a Fn key so I just need something for TAB

How do you change it to a shortcut to an application or a function like TAB?

The Tab key should be 0x09.
However, mapping Tab to the 'useless' message button does not work for me - anyone successful in doing that?

There is no function in Windows Mobile as "ALT+TAB", set up your vain. U have to find a task manager program, which is a sign shortcut, and list a task menu.

I remembered doing this when I had the HTC Universal. That device had both the TAB and ALT button which was what made it possible and why I wanted to replicate it.

Anyone know how to open the phone screen without pressing the talk/send button? I cannot find a way like you can on the Wing. I am unable to push the hardware buttons due to my severe physical disability (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). Thanks in advance for any help!

I've never had a problem opening the screen. I usually slide it open using two hands, both thumbs on the edge of the phone. My thumbs go to the center, so I never press the phone button. That's my personal experience.
I never use that tilt-up screen on it, lol. I have no need for that tilt thing.
perhaps your operator can supply you with a special dialling wand?

Oh, he's cool. Yea, he's a true badass. How hilarious.
Maybe someone could create an app? Something I can add to Start menu or Programs tab.
Sliding the phone open is not an option. It has to be touch activation.
On the Wing "phone" was a program in the start menu that brought up the dialing pad.

Ohhh, I thought you meant slide the screen open, lol.
Hmm, they don't have a shortcut for the phone, anywhere. But, it should be possible to create a shortcut. Lemme visit the file exporer for a few minutes...
You can add Phone to the start menu...
SOLUTION
Create a shortcut:
Go to the File Explorer
Navigate to the \Windows directory on your Device Memory
Scroll down to the file name, "cprog" (use the scrollbar, since kinetic scrolling is too slow)
Right click it, and click copy
Now scroll to the top of that list (use the scrollbar again)
Open the Start Menu folder (your filepath should be \Windows\Start Menu now)
Right click in the empty space, and then click "Paste Shortcut"
Now right click the "Shortcut to cprog" file, and click Rename, so that you can give it a more personable title
Now it's in your Start Menu! You can also add it to your Programs tab on TouchFlo.
Only problem is that there's no icon, but it works, right! (I'll read what was just posted...Beat you to the answer, Leanne, lol)
THANK YOU! Thanks for the solution, worked perfectly. I love my TP2 even more now!
Hi guys
Any idea how i can do a cut, copy and paste function during editing of my contacts info? I tried to tap and hold on the selected text but no cut, copy and paste function is made available to me. Or is there any available freeware that will allow me to do this?
It's quite difficult not knowing or having this function for shifting the text between the fields as i need to re-type them out each time.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
That's easy... ctrl+c, ctrl+v, ctrl+x. There is a reason that I LOVE my TP2 for having a Ctrl key, I use it all of the times. Contacts and Google Maps are two areas where the right click menu doesn't appear, and the keystroke shortcuts come in quite handy!
Jason
if you have a tilt 2, theres no copy and paste on the keyboard, i still havent figured out a way to map it to FN+C or FN+X or FN+V, but i just use swype onscreen keyboard to do it =X
You may could use "VitoCopyPaste.exe" to Cut, Copy and Paste. Just Google around. I also had it on my phone once.
You can use Keyboard Controller (link below) to remap many different keys. Since the Tilt2 doesn't have a control key, I suggest remapping the FN key+C for copy and FN+V for paste. You can allow keys to directly open programs and lots more - GREAT program. I can vouch for it working very well with the Tilt2.

Enjoy!
theres no function for copy and paste on the keyboard controller, or else i would have done that already, unless someone has a solution that i dont know about
Yeah why i didn't think of that - Ctrl + X, Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V
Thanks all for the help.
Cheers!
Jon
anyone have any idea to do this for the tilt2?
if you don't have the ctrl button, the "HTC People" contacts manager seems to have left out the popup cut/copy/paste menu on tap and hold of selected text.
but if you go to the windows contacts manager, the cut/copy/paste does come up. just either go to "More" within the HTC manager, or just start up contacts manually through the program list.
i actually prefer the windows contacts manager and have disabled the HTC tab.

Pick a key you are unlikely to want and map it is the Ctrl key then you can use ctrl x ctrl c and ctrl v

I use the Keyboard Controller on a Tilt 2 and have FN + C mapped to Ctrl -c (specifically, emulate key press, key 67 [C key], with the Ctrl box checked, send to OS). I have done similar with FN + X, & FN + V. Works great as copy, cut, & paste everywhere I have tried it.
I cant select ( highlight ) text from windows live messenger..
Also its very annoying to tap on the screen, and than select: select text, to be able to highlight and copy something.. is there anything i can do, to use it like htc kaiser... being able to select the text immediately ? without all those steps?

This works for me, I have been doing this since I got my Tilt2.
I have Z,X,C,V,A mapped. Very useful.
ctrl key functionality w/o need for ctrl (or Fn) key
I have found that the keyboard controller program also allows you to do this without having to use Fn (or any other two key sequence). What you can do is assign a long key press for C, X, V to serve as copy, cut, paste by emulating CTRL-C, CTRL-X, CTRL-V, while assigning the short key press (click) to retain the default key functions (i.e., c, x, v).
Of course, you can expand on this. I applied this method to create a Fn-key-free keypad. For number 1, a single click is still an apostrophe, but long press is number 1. While the built-in option to double-click Fn is definitely more efficient when you have lots of numbers to enter, my sense is that a long key press is more convenient when you have just a few numbers to input.
And, this method also works for undo (i.e., control Z on your computer can be long press z on your tilt 2). Which is a beautiful thing.
Is there any way to get copy/paste functionality on a non-sense 2.2 rom. Its killing me that I dont have this, really the only thing missing from CM6 and holding me back from it as a daily driver.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Copy/paste should work just fine in CM6. Works for me, anyway.
Just long press on the text you want and you should get the menu with copy/cut options.
Not to hijack this thread, but I've asked elsewhere and there doesn't appear to be a solution but I figured I'd give the inquiry another go...
Is anyone aware of a method to use either a multitouch keyboard or perhaps a specific pinch/zoom gesture to copy/past/cut text on the fly?
I really miss being able to do so easily on my G1's physical keyboard...and highlighting specific text with the trackball.
maybe i am a roflcopter, but I cannot get a copy paste prompt to open after a longpress? Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

Where are you trying to copy text from?
I am able to long-press on any text field (SMS, Address Bar, etc.) and get a pop-up menu that includes: Select text, Select all, Cut, Copy, Paste, etc.
I am running CM6 RC1 on my EVO.

You need to menu -> select text.
Swype has a fairly easy-to-use (though not as easy as SenseUI) select text method. Just Swype from the Swype key (the one in the bottom-left corner with the i above the Swype logo) to the SYM key. This will open the third keyboard in Swype; the editing keyboard.
Hi , is there any plugin / program that allow me to copy and paste text on webpage or gmail via S Pen? I don't need any other function from S Pen.
There is no need for a plugin or program. This Amazing Phone is capable of doing just what you are asking on its own.
Here's what you need do to copy and paste in Gmail or a Web Page using your S-Pen;
Hold the S-Pen button in, tap at the starting point of what you want to copy (select) and drag the pen to the right a little and lift pen of the screen. You will now see selected text and cursors..
Manipulate the cursors so that the required text to be copied is all highlighted. Once it is highlighted there will be a menu at the bottom of the screen if you are holding the phone in normal position. If in landscape mode it'll be at the top of the screen. Now just click on the copy icon and the selected text will be copied to your clipboard. Now that it is on your clipboard you can paste it where you need to paste it, Gmail, text messaging ect. Hope I helped.

worth noting that text select doesnt work on chrome, but that seems to be an inherent problem in chrome rather than in touchwiz. works on the stock browser

I didn't know that Thanks.. I use and love Chrome on my laptop. I am stock GN2..
I was wondering why the stock browser has an incognito feature as if it was Chrome. Do know know anything about this?..
I don't mean to get off topic but I was going to create a thread to ask this question. Now that you have mentioned Chrome I am curious..

the stock browser has incognito mode because Android was created by Google, though I'm not sure why they're different apps. I would have thought they consolidate it into one browser. the chrome browser seems to be a bit buggy so i switched back into using the stock browser. the stock browser also has pop out mode which is neat, but I'm not sure how to activate it on demand
