I've edited the registry key to disable the HTC dialer and restore the WM dialer - the combination of that and turning off TF3d restores about a third of the program memory. Initially I couldn't get the contacts / call log lookup to work, but I discovered that if you rename the "SmartDial" key in the registry (in the same area as the Skin Enabled / Disabled selector), the default behaviour is restored.
The only oddity is that accessing the call log and speed dials is strange. The call log and speed dial buttons on the keypad work fine. If you have the keypad displayed, menu items for "Call History" and "Speed Dial" appear in the SK2 menu, but do nothing when tapped. If you hide the keypad, the menu items appear as "(A)" and "(B)" rather than "Call History" and "Speed Dial", and still don't work.
Has anyone got any clues as to what I need to hack to get these menu items working properly? There is a chunk of registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Extensions\ContextMenus\Phone that looks promising, but I can't seem to get anything that works.
Ah - fixed it. It seems that the three menu items for Call History, Speed Dial and Save To Notes are HTC additions to the menu, rather than features of the default WM dialler. You can turn them off by setting AddPhoneMenu to 0 under HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone.

Hi there
I'm pretty happy with my XDA exec installed in "corporate mode" (far more reliable/stable than the standard mode i received it in from O2) however i have a very annoying problem:
After its been switched on and in use for a few hours the "phone" feature stops giving you access to the on-screen number keypad. When you select the "phone" app from the start menu shortlist it takes you to a page with only the following 6 keys: "call History" "mute" "video" "note"
"contacts" "hold" and "end".
In order to get the number pad back (so you can call people other than those in your contacts) it offers you a "keypad" option. However when you click it this does nothing.
This is quite frustrating as it means if you wish to make a call in PDA mode (where the qwerty keyboard is hidden behind the screen) you have no number keypad with which to dial a new number.
Is there a fix for this? Perhaps there's a home screen i can set it to which always has the phone number keypad displayed.
Many thanks
Charlie
disabling roaming indicator on smartphone, home screen background oddities & comm mgr
Apologies if I've put too simple a topic in this forum. I have three questions. My phone is actually a Samsung i320, but I'm hoping these questions apply across any WM5 smartphone.
1) How can I disable the roaming indicator? I've got an older Voicestream SIM and most unlocked/import phones think I'm roaming. I tried the same reg key as on the K-Jam PPC but it didn't work.
2) I've created a custom home screen with a transparent top menu bar. When I select a background jpg for it the jpg is cropped (for lack of a better word) to the size it would display if the top menu bar was not transparent. So depending on how I align the image (top or bottom) I get to see the background color where more of the image should display. Even stranger it behaves normally on the jpg files on the phone labelled "protected content" which seem to make a copy of themselves in \Windows under a shared file name when selected.
3) If I have another WM5 HTC smartphone (a StarTrk for example) is it possible to take that comm manager and copy it over to my Samsung i320? I miss the option to turn on and off the MS push. Alternatively what is the reg key entry to turn this on and off? (Yes I realize I can set schedules, etc, but it was sure nice on my K-Jam to just hit one button to temporarily disable it)
Thanks all for your expert help.

It works some registry hack: HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL

Change value to 1
...and it warks graeat. BUT !! remember afthe changing value wait some time, about 1-2min before make RESET, it is important !
Can anyone point me to a registry key that tells the Phone Keyboard to expand/open when the HTC dialer opens. It was working fine and then it spontaneously stopped appearing. The icon at bottom center is still there and I can tap it to bring it up. But I would prefer the default arrangement where it opens with the Dialer. ROM is XBMod 2.03 but I have posted it here as it is quite possible a generic setting that would be of use to any ROM. To clarify - the Phone Keyboard SIP is selected - that is not the issue. The Problem is that the dialer comes up with is minimised at the bottom.
Rather not hard reset but will do that if the answer is not obvious.
Does anyone know if it's possible to either:
a) Change the default phone behaviour to go to the 'people' view rather than contacts with a default action
or
b) Change the default action of a contact to "view contact"?
or
c) Delete all default actions?
I hate having a default phone numer - I want to tap a person and be taken to a list of numbers. I can tap the "quick contact" list on the right of a contact, but it's small and I frequently end up calling the default number instead of viewing the contact.
Also, I assume I hold a finger over the proximity sensor, because after I've accidentally dialed the default number, the screen often goes blank and by the time I've moved my hand and got the screen back on, the call has connected.
Apart from this one issue, loving every aspect of the phone, simply amazing.

Just realised that what I'm after is a replacement dialer, just installed a bunch of them or testing
What was the result of your research? Find anything good?
The soft key for "All Messages" in Sense 2.5 is not working. I can open individual messages and can open the app (to show all messages) from the Start menu, but not from within Sense. Any idea how to fix this (without a reset)? Just a registry key?
