Aloha,
Version Opera Mini v4.2.13216 - 20081124
Found a working Opera Mini WVGA version for the Touch HD!
http://rapidshare.com/files/181737253/Opera_Mini_Final4.2.cab
New version... Opera Mini v4.2.13337 - 20081205
http://rapidshare.com/files/184240714/Opera_Mini_4.2.13337.cab
The following registry settings control the font sizes for apps running in JBed:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\Esmertec Java\Device Info\Java Font]
"Size Large"="26"
"Size Medium"="20"
"Size Small"="16"
Still the version i like, fast, clean and small
Have a nice weekend
i'm still annoyed, that firefox isn't available for pda's...
but thx for up
I found the standard 4.2 from mini.opera.com to work o.k. on the Touch HD. What's so special about this one?

Doesn't the HD already come with the Opera browser?

yes
But i like the Opera Mini more... (faster, smarter, feeds support with remote sync etc) this version is with bigger Font Size so it's running ok on a 800x400 screen.
So the Opera browser that comes preinstalled on the HD isn't Opera Mini? It's not Opera Mobile, right? I thought the HD utilizes a full HTML browser...

the opera 9.5 that comes with the hd is opera mobile, a standalone executable program, which is a full html browser. opera mini is a java applet that runs within a java environment, and used to have limitations. maybe newer versions of opera mini have more functionality??

Sorry i can't... rules...
Cool, works well thanks.
Very fast at loading pages, with nice sliding transitions. The rendering's less accurate compared to 'big' Opera though.
Pros / Cons
I use both the browsers, in my view Opera Mini is far superior though, but with faults. Opera Mobile which comes on the HD is good when it works and you have a fast connection (WiFI or strong HSdPA). I believe Opera Mini uses pre rendered pages from Opera so is very fast, yes the transitions are nice. It has speed-links like Opera on your PC and can handle pretty much all pages I've ever tried to load. Opera mobile sometimes messes up pages with forms, for example, using tfl.gov.uk is so fast on opera mini, nearly impossible on opera mobile. File downloads are fine in Opera Mini as it can access the file directories on the HD, the download manager is maybe not as good as on Opera Mobile though, stop-resume etc..
Opera mini doesn't have tabs though.. one page only, a couple of times it can hang, you need to mess around with it so it doesn't ask each time if it is allowed to access the data connection, leave it running in the background and it can struggle to find connection again without restarting Opera Mini. Also you have to load it through JAVA (from a list of other Java programs you might have on your HD, GMAIL etc..) unless anyone knows how to give it it's own direct shortcut?? Also it's not integrated with TF3D like opera mobile.
I use 4.2 direct from Opera, fine but yes the menus are small, but still quite easy to press. Sounds like there is a WVGA version now. Perhaps in the next version (4.3?) this will be the ultimate browser.
I'll carry on with both for now

This happens when the CAB is installed in either SD card or Storage

I got this one before i think... but 'im quite sure the WVGA support does not come from opera mini but from the version of jbed you got.. you shoudl have the 20081205.5.1 version or soemthing like that. There was a post here for that version, supporting VGA and WVGA in fact.

go to add remove programmes and remove the previous version of OPERA-MINI then install the cab attached on page one of this thread.
it should work nicely then.
re versions :the text size is now spot on. accept no immitations, this is the real internet in your pocket and no mistake. lovely and fast too, loads the times homepage in about 8 seconds compared to opere mobile's 30 seconds.
well handy. it has to be said.

in my opinion opera mini 4.2 under jbed and mobile 9.5 for all pages that mini can not display properly.
This should probably be a poll. Unless you have a scientific way of measuring "best", all you will get is a bunch of opinions. And everyone has a favorite browser, so with enough replies you will have all the common browsers represented.
The right answer may be "it depends".
I have PIE, Opera and Skyfire, and they all have their advantages.

X2 on the Netfront 3.5...Tj
Opera Mobile 9.5 for everyday use, Skyfire when Opera 9.5 fails to open something and Opera Mini 4.2 when i want low traffic (when roaming for example).
Opera works best for me
Opera Mobile 9.5
And soon Opera Mobile 10
Coming soon!
After upgrading to NFSFAN's latest 6.5 ROM on a Bell HTC Touch, if one installs multiple browsers, say, Opera 10 beta and Skyfire, in addition to Internet Explorer. Then, how to select default browser for TouchFlow?

You can either change the registry settings or use m2dc (Manila 2D Customizer).
Thanks for both suggestions... M2DC worked for me.
btw, what is the registery key for default browser?
I have tried skyfire, opera mini and dolphin. I'm not sure if its just how xandroid is setup but they all seem rather sluggish compared to when I'm on wm. Do you guys have any suggestions on a good browser. I'm on a tmo tp2 running 210 xandroid reference.

Stock Android browser here.
Opera Mini 5.1 is running very good, but on forum.xda-developers.com I have to scroll a little bit. The same scroll problem is in windows 6.5 with opera mini 5.1 and not with 5 beta (java-version).

why dont you just use the xda android app?
Opera Mini has Opera-Link and Opera Sync and is very fast.
All my Bookmarks an my startpage with thumbnails are synced. It is very easy to switch between wm and android.
