Backup linked facebook profiles to contacts? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

since i experiment a lot with programs roms etc, i frequently hard reset.
i love the "link facebook profile" feature but because all of my contacts are in greek, it doesnt automatically find people in facebook, since almost all greeks spell their name on facebook with english characters.
if i hard reset i lose the profile assignments. any way to backup this?

Google Contacts sync

Hi all,
any of you ever tried to sync only one (or more) specific contacts group?
I remember of such a function in Android 1.6, and it would be great to have it back on 2.1 too (maybe it's there and it's just me who cannot find it).
I don't like to have ALL the Google contacts sync'ed.
Thnx
Can't be done. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662949
Thanks Cleargrey,
would you tell me if you ever tried to sync Outlook with the phone did you manage to do so? It seems my HTC sync won't sync, telling me no errors but no contacts sync'ed as well
I also tried to sync Outlook with Goole, and found a good prog to do so (Go contacts sync) since I don't want ot go over with CSV import/export, but it states it syncs pictures too, and it doesn't...
Cleargrey, just a little info to better understand the following HTC answer:
A1. It is not possible to sync just 'My Contacts', it would always be 'Google Contacts, or 'All Contacts'.
what do they mean with "Google Contacts or All Contacts"? Is it just basically a different way of referring to the same "All Contacts" group?
I'm asking because I just checked on Google Accounts and I didn't see anything like "Google Contacts"
There does seem to be some confusion over the various contact lists/groups on the phone and on Google Contacts.
BTW, Google Contacts can be accessed through your Gmail account (left side menu -> Contacts) or directly at www.google.com/contacts.
Basically:
All [phone] = My Contacts [Google Contacts]
Favorites [phone] = Starred in Android [Google Contacts]
Co-workers [phone] = Collegues [Google Contacts]
Family, Friends [phone] = Family, Friends [Google Contacts] resp.
user created groups [phone] = user created groups [Google Contacts], and vice versa.
All Contacts [Google Contacts] is never sync'ed on the phone.
All the above get sync'ed together, you can't cherry pick.
Sorry to correct you JT, but if I access Google Contacts on my desktop I find "All Contact" contains 643 contacts.
Now, doing the same on my phone (Contacts -> Menu btn -> view) I see "Google (643)".
Hence my phone sync'ed All Contacts.
It would be great if it would have sync'ed "My contacts" only, cuz even if it's not a subgroup, it only contains contacts I want to carry on the phone
Two very quick questions I'd love some help with.
1. Whats the quickest way to type a new sms message? When I open the messages icon and choose "new message" it lists ALL of my contacts. Anyone I EVER emailed in my life. 1000s. I justwant to see my 100 or so SIM contacts as I want to write an SMS message. any way around this?
2. I clicked on new message (in the messages icon) and typed in an email address. The phone then sent the email as an attached MMS message via my phone service provider? I assumed it would use my gmail details to send it? Am I set up wrong?
Thanks, Got the desire yesterday. First time on android. bit lost really. not as intuitive as expected, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
fastest way to send sms to a specific contact is to go to "Contacts", look for the person you wantto send the sms to, and then click not on the name but on the picture (or on the pic placeholder): some icons will show up so that you cna choose what you want to do. Click on message and you're good to go.
your problem is the same to me: I DO NOT want all my google contacts on my phone cuz everytime I have to do something with contcts (apart from phone, where I checked "show only contacts with tel number") it will fill my eyes with unwanted persons

Hmm, glad mine doesn't do that! Anyhow, go to your "All" contacts list on your phone, then MENU button -> View, un-check "Show auto Gmail contacts".
Seems I may have been wrong, Google Contacts' All Contacts do indeed seem to get sync'd in their entirety but this check box allows you to mask what you don't want to see.
checked that, and will test functionalities for some days, but going to "search contacts" still shows up all Google contacts.
This is something really pissing me off.
For real: I can't understand why 1.6 had the opportunity to select the groups and 2.1 does not!!!
The Contacts/People feature seems a bit confusing to me.
The best way I've found of managing contacts is to create a group called 'Phonebook' and just use the People widget to display that group on one of my home-screens.
I can then add or remove anyone I like in there and it's easy to pick someone to call/text. The widget looks pretty cool too with everyone's facebook pics.
Seems much easier than viewing all People and scrolling through loads of Facebook contacts I don't need or Google contacts with only an e-mail address.
I can manage it all online under my Google account as well so setting it up only took a couple of minutes.
See here for a workaround for syncing just my contacts:

[Q] How to NOT use phone numbers from facebook

I have the HTC Desire with Android 2.2
I have linked it with my facebook account, but I do not want to have access to all the phonenumbers that people put on facebook.
I have managed to disable them in the contacts (dont remember how).
However when I want to send a text message, I enter the name in the receipient box and the box comes up with suggestions of names, it still includes contacts from facebook. Even contacts that are unlinked and unrelated to anything on the phone. I really do not want that.
Is it possible to get rid of this, to not use phonenumbers from facebook at all?
I think it's not, because i can't remember any other settings which would include contacts....
Try ChompSms or HandyCent app if you can disable them directly in the app.
I tried CompSms, and the same deal applies
On another note, I really like chompsms, so thanks for pointing me to that at least.
hi, first post - i think this may work for you.
make sure you aint syncing facebook account in "account and sync" and try deselecting facebook from the view opption in the people app.
sorry just checked my device and have the same issue as you, i guess it cant be removed. I can only suggest grouping? maybe?
only way I know of is deleting the facebook sync.
after this: apps -> contacts memory-> delete
and then sync it again (where you got your normal contacts from)
and don't forget to backup your contacts beforehands ^^

[Q] Contacts - All contacts showing up in email apps, no way to get rid of them

Hi,
I have seen various topics on contacts syncing and how to avoid sync with Google account to pollute the Contacts on the phone with what is not part of "My Contacts". I have been to apply most of this but it seems that it is only partial:
I can get the People application to show only the contacts I want, this is fine.
The issue is that when I send an email and I start typing in the To field, I'm offered all possible contacts, even the ones I explicitly filtered out and which are not appearing in People application...
Is this the expected behaviour? I hope no Is there something I can do to avoid that?
Any chance it could be a left over for a first sync? If yes, how can I clean it for good?
Thanks a lot for any help on this,
If you're talking about the Gmail app... it works the same way it does online, so you'll get all the contacts. I don't think you can change this.
I was talking about email and sms apps.
For Gmail, I'm clear it works as you say (even if the proposed contacts are not sorted in the same way on Android than in the browser, and it is a bit less convenient).

Having problems with synchronizing contacts with Gmail?

Hi all,
Today I ran into a problem with my phone, regarding synchronization of my contacts with Gmail. I wanted to share the problem and solution, since it is bound to happen to others.
NOTE: I have a Dutch phone, so when mentioning menu options and such I am bound to use the wrong terms.
What I did:
I came from a WM6 phone and migrated my Outlook contacts to my new Andriod phone. All went well, I had my contacts securely in my phone memory. Handy thing, it links all contacts with similar contacts from Gmail.
Since I do not use Outlook anymore (it now seems redundant) I worried about losing all my contacts when something happens to the phone, and wanted to migrate them all to Gmail.
I did this; downloaded an App (IuA Contact Backup I think), backed up the contacts and imported them into Gmail. After cleaning up the contactlist in Gmail it seemed to synchronize fine but it also made my contactlist slow. This is because it needs to link all contacts from different sources, which takes up a lot of processor speed. The phone contacts were now useless though, since they are all in Gmail.
So I decided to delete all Phone contacts. When I did this, I lost most phonenumbers (although they were still in my Gmail contacts). Then I noticed that synchronizing with Gmail had started failing, resulting in some drops of sweat and no clue how to restore it.
The error message was: "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Apparently when I thought the contacts from Gmail had synchronized correctly, they had not.
What I did to solve this:
I started with a backup of all my contacts! If something goes wrong, I am not responsible for the loss of your contacts!
In Settings -> Applications -> 'Manage applications (?)' -> 'All applications' I went to something called 'Contact storage (?)'. Here I deleted all data.
After that, I restarted my phone (soft reboot, just use the on/off button with long-press and select 'Turn off'). When the phone starts again, it will start synchronizing with Gmail and all will be fine.
On various fora I found that Android does not like large amount of changes to the contacts in Gmail. If you delete (or change?) a lot of Gmail contacts before it synchronizes, I guess it cannot keep up with the changes and stops the process. This will not solve itself.

GingerVillain contact sync

So far my only 1 contact have synch with the facebook profile.
I used to have to sense and there was a way to manually assign a facebook profile to a contact so it would "absorb" all the info, includying the profile pic.
Is there a way to do it in gingervillain, I know there are some apps for that, but I just want to know if its possible of doing it without one.
Thanks in advance for the help.
For me it synced pretty much the contacts, only a few remained due to incorrect e-mail addresses.
If you want to do it manually, then EDIT contact and then press menu then the option JOIN. You can now join with the FB and other profiles.
Well for some weird reason if I press join it only shows the ones that are in my contacts, but not a way to select a facebook account or any other account.
That might be because the visualization in contacts is set to "contacts with phone number only" but again its a nonsene...
Also I found this the other day:
With Gingerbread, Google removed support for facebook contact integration as well as facebook video upload from the gallery. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to go backwards in facebook integration, but the two companies have been having a PR fight. So we, the android user, get to receive the negative consequences of a tech giant fight.
I now use the SyncMyPix app to sync fb profile pics with my contacts. Works really well if you have the correct first and last name.
Click to collapse
Strange. It works for me :S
Download the facebook app and sync contacts from there (sync all contacts in the menu) - then you should be able to join.
Again the quote is right, but after downloading the facebook app, syncing all contacts it works for me as I mentioned before. BTW, I also have the option "contacts with phone number only" selected.
