I just tried MagiKB on the Pro2, a program which translates held keys and quick double-taps into shifted and caps-ed equivalents (eg. hold down "a" for a fraction of a second to create "A"), and it sadly doesn't seem to work. After a spell with the HD, where on the soft keyboard you could hold down keys to get alternative characters, I'm a bit surprised HTC didn't implement something similar on the Pro2's hard keyboard. Anyone have a workaround or suggestion?
When I press and hold the keys with alternate characters, it will give me the alternate character. but no double click ...
Did you try with the Touch Pro overlay?
I was hoping this would work myself. Haven't installed it yet though.
Has anyone gotten Magikb to work on Tilt2?
Thanks!
Looking for this too.

Saw that there is now a cab file for the HTC Diamond keyboard. [link]. Anyone know if this will work on the Touch?
Yes it does
I put it on my xv6900 & my xv6800- works fine.
any feelings on this keyboard? I started with the older HTC keyboard, then moved to TouchPal. I'm curious to try it out, but it looks like its just a skinned and mildly updated version of HTC keyboard.
Using the diamond keyboard on the VZW Touch right now. Works well, no real issues found as of yet. Like it for the fact that it has more buttons and I love the "Switch" for the ABC and xT9.

It works well but in QWERTY mode, the letter Z is missing
Mine has the Z on both phones.
I like that I'm not stuck with the qwerty keyboard in opera now on my touch
wonder if the diamond keyboard originally has the sound when you select the keys like the htc phonepad had?

I don't know, i really like the PCM Keyboard. I can't find one that's as simple to use and functions well.

Click to collapse
I'm going to try out the Diamond kb, currently using PCM also. I also really appreciate the simplicity of the PCM and how it takes up very little screen space (compared to others), but I really hate that I have to change layouts to get to the period (.) key. IMO, this should be on the main layout, being a such often used key.
wow....has anyone failed to mention that the "qwerty" mode doesnt work in landscape?????? that is a huge drawback for such a nicely skinned keyboard....hope this gets fixed soon
I mainly use the keyboard layout. When I hit the shift key the characters show as caps and types a cap, but then stay displayed that way even though they are no longer typing caps (at least until I enter a space, then the displayed letters return to normal). Makes it hard to tell when I have caps turned on/off. If I tap the shift key a couple more times then the display will change back, but it's annoying. The landscape qwerty seems to be working fine for me, unlike what another user said (and it's not showing the shift display problem I mentioned).
It would be nice if when a key is pressed the enlarged view of the key displayed above the key, so that my finger is not covering it up. What I mean is like the way the PCM keyboard works, or like the iPhone.
Is there any way to make the on-screen keyboard enter the key I click first, as opposed to what key I am over when I take the stylus off the screen.
For example, if I use the Full QWERTY keyboard and press the E button, but drag my stylus over the R key and take my stylus off it enters R, not E. When I'm typing a message fast this can be a problem with keys at the side of the keyboard as I regularly enter S instead of A and B,N or M instead of a space. Does anyone know of a registry edit or some other way of stopping this from happening? Many thanks in advance!
Sorry, have entered this in the wrong forum! Meant to put it in the generic BlackStone one!
Dude,
That's a feature!
Most people prefer to be able to drag to another key, knowing they pressed the wrong one in the first place. It's kinda natural as our thumbs are bigger than most keyboard keys.
You haven't mentioned which keyboard you're using ? (As you're new... It's also known as a 'SIP'. Try seeking your answer using the search facility in this forum. You may have more luck outside the Blackstone forums)
If you want to just 'point n' shoot' without the drag option, then you could try reverting back to the plain-ole Windows supplied Keyboard (though I haven't tested this).
Seems like a step backwards though...
Cheers
Yup, choose "keyboard" that's the Windows standard keyboard (almost feature-free).
Firstly, cheers for your replies! I will have a look to see if I can disable the feature on the keyboard as I much prefer the Blackstone's Full QWERTY keyboard as it means I can use my thumbs when on the go, and the stylus when at a desk. The plain windows one isn't really what I'm after. Many thanks people!
is there another keyboard that has arrows like the one on the bottom of the stock 2.2 keyboard? i like the stock keyboard in all but its not like the multitouch droid keyboard. i wish someone could put those arrows on that keyboard
Swype has a special editing keyboard, by swyping from the Swype key to the SYM key.
Alternatively, there's a keyboard called Full Keyboard in the market. It's not great for day-to-day typing, and doesn't have a horizontal mode, but it has all of the editing keys you could want (arrows, del, insert, etc.) as well as Ctrl+*letter* keys, making it great for SSH sessions in ConnectBot.
I've been using the demo of Smart Keyboard, available in the Market. You tap the number key twice and it brings up a screen with arrows, a delete key, Tab and and Enter key. Then you switch back by hitting the ABC key. The skin I'm using is the iPhone skin. It has small spaces between the keys. It works for me.
I really like SwiftKey the best. It not only guesses the words you're typing, but also the next word. Works really well, but no arrows.
I also found a useful little app that allows you to have a virtual trackball, called Virtual Trackball. It's useful for moving around when you're trying to edit text. It also allows for a virtual d-pad. It's in the Market and costs .99 Euro. I think it's worth it. The developer is very responsive and is adding more features. I used to have trouble with it going away when running a lot of apps, but the new update seems to have made it persist better. If it disappears, you just hold on the home key to bring up recent apps and turn it on again.
Hi all,
I love my phone but I've come across an annoyance that I would like to fix. My thumbs are retarded and I constantly hit the period key instead of the spacebar. Does anybody know of any other keyboard or a way to adjust the size of individual keys? I'd like to make the spacebar wider and period key smaller, or get rid of the voice button and move the period key to the otherside of the spacebar. And yes, I have tried to adjust the way I type with it and re-calibrate the screen as well.
Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. You can change keyboards. I'm currently using the Droid2 multitouch and I'm pretty happy with it once I got used to it. I think you'll probably need to be rooted but I'm not sure on that. Just look around and find other keyboards that are ported to the Incredible.

Hey all,
I was wondering, does anyone know of a soft keyboard for the touch pro 2 / tilt2 that has larger keys then the current on. I don't have large fingers, but i might as well have, I've been dealing with typing and messing us every 5 letter and input wrong letter, but there has to be a nicer keyboard. I've tried a few, the custom keyboard or something like that, i forget the name, but still the buttons are to small.
Any one know of anything?
Thanks,
