Windows live help

Updated to Wm6 and forthe first couple of hours loving windows live. but now whenevr i log in it says i have no contacts online. no matter wht i do i keep gettin 0 contacts online. I know this isnt tue especially when i sign in on my computer and tehres at least 20+

There are a number of buggy Windows Live installs about, so make sure you have a recent version installed. I have version 10.6.0026.1400 and thats fine (I had an earlier version on a previous rom that had the same issue you have).
Try unzipping the .cab file from the attached zip file, copy it to your phone, and run it on your device. This should update your Windows Live messenger to a working version.

could you tell me how to check wht version its running because when i did the update my screen went blank but the leds still blanked so did soft reset and all went well. Just want to make sur eteh new version was installed at not the old still on there

any1 know how not to sync all the contacts.. to the adressbook???

Goto the Windows Live icon (from Programs on your start menu) and when you get in, goto the menu and select about. It should show the version you are now running.

I dont think you can with Windows Live messenger. If you want messenger without syncing contacts, have a search on here for the older MSN Messenger install. I saw someone post this a few days back, but cant remember the thread I saw it in.

VK Switcher v1.1 (With 20 VKs!!)

Suggested by beagz, here's a VK Switcher for some of those beautiful VKs out in the wild.

Confirmed working on:
CyanogenMod
PREREQUISITES:
Android USB Drivers installed
HOW TO USE:
1. Connect G1 to computer via USB
2. Extract the files from the .zip
3. Run VKSwitcher.exe
4. Everything after that is self-explainable!
Changelog and credits are all in app.
If any one wants the source code, just ask me, and I'll PM it to you.
NOTE: It is a pretty big file (81.2mb). 20 VKs at a little over 3MB a piece will do that

Does one need to already have HTC_IME installed? I did this and it said pushed, restarted but no option for HTC_IME
keyboard.
Update: I seemed to have lost my HTC_IME, so I went and pushed it back in. Rebooted, have the option to pick Touch Input, but still, the Vk are not changing.

thanks its pretty easy once the first one was done ... just very tedious to change all the code to work with new folders etc

i had previously uninstalled HTC_IME so i never had a problem ... i think its because cyan puts HTC_IME in data/app and my switcher pushes it to system/app so maybe the system is gettin confused .. try uninstalling HTC_IME completely and then pushing it through the app ... and also dont pay too much attention to the status label .. it will say it pushed even if phone isnt connected .. trying to get the error trapping to work soon

@xidominicanoix have you tried looking meltus's audio hack v2.4 script(or something like that). It detects if the phone is actually hooked up and will not work if the phone isn't hooked up.

i used meltus script for my original clock widget switcher but i never checked back on his script :\ im an idiot lol ... will see if with his help i can get it done

i finally decided to stop being lazy and get that working ... i already implemented it in my Clock widget switcher and will do my Music widget switcher and vk switcher by the end of tomorrow

I downloaded it, executed it, ran the VKSwitcher.exe it came up, I selected my VK and it said pushed but nothing happened... My G1 was mounted and everything... help

i will be adding the check soon to make sure adb is finding your device ... for the mean time try "adb shell" and see if it works (you should get a #)

Pocket Legends APK

Does anyone have the Pocket Legends APK released yesterday?
I would be so very thankful if someone could supply me with it since it is the only bloody app that refuses to download from the market.

having the same problems on my phone as well.
had my mate next to be download and install it but weirdly the apk doesnt exist in data\app or system\app....

yeah we searched for pocket* using root explorer with no results. Unless you know what its called..

Get him to uninstall it, get the application installation tracker, reinstall and it should say shouldn't it?

he tried to uninstall it and it made his launcher crash. now it doesnt show up in his app drawer after he rebooted his phone. he went to market to uninstall there and now it will only download but not install. It just hangs at the installing status.
hes not too happy anymore haha...

This apk is impossible to find, even apps like apkshare won't find a trace of it.

I'm still having issues with this. I've downloaded it to my Evo using Myn's rom, wont install. Donwloaded the apk from here, still wont install.. flashed CM6 and still no luck. Is it not compatible with the Evo or something?

It originally installs on the SD card, and is 40(!)MB, so make sure you have space.
Mine also installed 2nd time from the market, and it's fun to play! I'm happy to see and MMO finally on android, I was craving for one! A bad point is, that it seems you have to pay a lot of extra to buy +dungeons, items, etc. No good....

Really nice with BT Mouse and TV-Out this one!

I have the same problem
I dont understand, what is so special on this aplication, that its not possible download it from repository of market. Other applications are downloading correctly.
When I press install, It seems that it will start downloading, but after few seconds apears download bar, where is nothing happening. I am user of Desire with Leedroid froyo rom. I tried clean market and download manager data, but problem is still there.
Do you have any idea how to resolve it?
Meantime can someone upload .apk file of version 1.5.1?

Ah yes, the game has been updated (to 1.5.1), the earlier APK is not usable any more. And for me it appears to actually download it, just not install it.

[Q] Gingerbread Keyboard install

Hey, I recently used the method for installing a gingerbread keyboard on my Desire from here: levelx.me/technology/android-technology/android-2-3-gingerbread-keyboard-for-htc-desire/
however after following the instructions it didn't appear in the menu's or if i tired to long press to select input method. It also messed with all my icons and widgets, totally removing my music widget from my homescreen and changing how the icons were displayed (massive gaps between an icon and the one above it) I was wondering if there is any way to undo this install. I had a look round and couldn't really find anything (either that or my searching fails horribly). If anyone knows how to uninstall a single zip that would be great because at the moment the only way round I can see is to re-flash.
PS: I checked in my applications and it didn't appear there either

You have to enable it in settings-keyboard and language. If you already did that and it still doesn't work it didn't install.

Ok thanks alot. Used a different method via downloading an .apk file for it works a charm now

1.1 Firmware mirror for NST

So I just picked up a nook simple touch and am eager to root it, I've done plenty with Android on phones, never an ebook though. I've been reading the material here and had a couple questions.
1.) It looks like 1.1 firmware is needed for most of the roots here, however B&N only lists 1.2 currently. Does anyone have a mirror to 1.1 or tell me how to get that, currently I'm on 1.0.1
2.) If I can't get 1.1 are there any roots that will work for 1.2? I've been following the thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346748 and it looks like it only works from 1.1 by the sound of it.
3.) Is everyone or anyone using the NoRefreshToggle? If so what do you think? Is it worth trying it out? Dangers of using it? When you toggle it off do you get greyscale back? From the sounds of the post, it's pure black and white with it on which is fine if when I disable it, it goes back to normal greyscale images.
4.) Did anyone find out how to turn off page animations in the kindle app? not a big deal, just wondering.

Thanks for the 1.1 post link, however I updated to 1.1.2 and followed the instructions and everything seems to be ok, I can get email, install from the market place, only thing I can't do is search the market. A search just lists a blank page and doesn't find any apps, any ideas.
As for the Kindle question, after installing kindle app and seeing the performance, this isn't a big deal at all.
Still curious on the refresh toggle however, any ideas on that, have you guys tried it out? I may post there if I don't hear back.

I have checked and as you said market search functionality is absent, it seems to be broken since the Googleplay thing.
As a way to regain it, in the mean time we get an updated market working, install Searchmarket.
The NorefreshToggle is still in early stages, but works quite well for webpages, etc.
Try it, there are no risks on it, on any program when you enable the app it will work, and when you go into a menu it will return to normal grayscale.

How do I install Searchmarket if I can't search the market for it lol ... Do I have to install it on my phone first, then transfer the apk over to the NST, then file browse and install it from /system/app ?
I tried NoRefreshToggle, it's interesting, like you said a work in progress ... Tried it with GReader unfortunatly it shuts off between Feed view and Article view which is a pain, but I think that's probably to avoid ghosting.
As for web page viewing, Opera Mini FCs on me everytime I open it, as does the stock browser, so I haven't been able to try browsing as of yet Still looking for a solution to that one.

I just use the Google Play website to initiate installs to the nook (it appears in my device list as "phone")
The included Opera Mini installation never worked for me (no FC nothing). In the end I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling.

Didn't even know you could send apps like that to your devices, never had a need to try it before. Worked like a charm ... Opera is working now as well, thanks for the tips Really enjoying Android on the NST

So are you saying you are on 1.1.2 rooted and enjoying it?
Should I downgrade to 1.1.1 and root or just go ahead with 1.1.2?

I can't speak to the upgrade patch from 1.1.1, I bought my NST yesterday, it had 1.0.1 on it, I upgraded to 1.1.2 then followed the rooting instructions for 1.1.0 or was it 1.1.1 can't remember, in any case, after rooting everything seems to be working just fine

It was 1.1.0, there was no 1.1.1

Is there any risk upgrading to 1.1.2 from 1.1.0? Would I have to reinstall google apps &c? Did anything change in between 1.1.0 and 1.1.2? (I have heard that they may have fixed the WiFi issues that were plaguing me a few months ago.)
