new t-mobile dash - HTC Excalibur

So, I just got my t-mobile dash yesterday. What's the easiest/safest way to upgrade to windows mobile 6.1? I see alot of apps on here, like feather weather, wont run on windows mobile 6.0. Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome
A good place to start would be read the STICKY's and the WIKI pretty much all answers can be found via serach...
Yes you will need WM6.1 sliding panels for weather appz to work.

and I'm 'assuming' that sliding panels is part of wm 6.1. Do I have to 'unlock' the jogger or anything?

Yep Sliding Panels is an integral part of WM6.1, no comprende on unlock jogger.
Follow the noobs guide to flashin if get stuck @ 3% then go to RoseROM in sig and @ bottom of first post is a link to files needed.
To be honest jogger is the first thing i turn off as rather spiradic

This looks like it installs its own custom interface and doesn't use the touch cube. Is this correct?
There's a Hermes thread on this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327846
Guys this program is a memory whore, takes like 4 megs of ram, not ideal at all for anyone getting email from an exchange server or people using active sync.
It works. The config can be a bit tedious and you'll need to get some better icons (see the hermes thread referenced above), but it pretty smooth. It does seem to slow down over time though and your screen gets fingerprinty but it works as advertised.
Can this work on the hermes?
How to install and make it work?
Is it touchflo or button flo?
PLEASE REPLY THANKS IN ADVANCE

Yes, it works on Hermes.
Click the cab to start the install.
It works like TouchFLO Cube.

I would call it: FlashFlo
Olioaglio
where can i download it?
Loving TouchFLO, testing!
This will be the closest we get to TouchFLO with the Hermes. Its a decent project, excited to see the final version...
not touchflo
I
Just to clarify some aspects.
the application is not the touchflo inself
the touchflo is finger scroll in all applications , so you dont use stylus, touchflo substitute the scroll bars.
see you
If this flashflo is just for the Cube, it is not the real touchflo because it can't finger scroll in wm6 anywhere
Good application, sadly isnt touchFLO, but none the less I see more of this kind of application spawning. HTC have created a monster with touchFLO.

Windows Mobile Sliding Panel

Sliding Panels Theme
Hi
I have a Samsung Blackjack II and i really like the sliding panels theme of WM 6.1, so i was wondering can it be ported to WM6 or not? since there are no 6.1 ROMs for Blackjack II. If it can,can someone please extract the files and post them here
Thanks
Heres a link to chome cab. I tried it on the motorola q9c but doesnt work

I think were fighting the same battle. Funny how wm 6.1 came from a motorola q8.
thanks i'll try them out and tell u if it was successful
nope not working just a background and nothing else
Im also looking for this. If anyone has an idea for an working one please leat me know.
sliding panels theme-on other than kavana?
is it possible to get the theme installed on a 1.33 version? im not sure if this is his own theme and hasnt been released to the public.
i tried the kavana version and it just seems that the 1.33 works smoother (...please dont bash me, its just personal preference) and uses less battery life, so i flashed back but i really miss the theme and a few of the other options. so my next question, am i just better off cooking my own rom or is it too complicated for "slightly above average" people like me?
can anyone point me in the right direction please?
thanks in advance
The "CHome" homescreen plugin is developed by Microsoft and is part of the WM 6.1 OS. Anyway... there's ways of getting it to work on other ROMs or devices. Here's a cab I have that's supposed to make that happen. Try installing it on your device, it should work.
thanks ill give it a try
fast response much appreciated!
tried a version of chome that i found but it didnt work either...i installed the chome_2 first and got a blank background, installed a version of chome and got the same thing but only showed a partial of the blank background, like the right and top are chopped off with a different shade of green than the background, (sorry best i can describe it) i uninstalled both and reinstalled chome first then chome_2, still the same results. i guess im stuck with the brightpoint 1.33 kavana version for now. thanks for the help
sorry for the post, the kavana version changed since the last time i used it. im cool with it now, no need for this post anymore, mods please bump. thanks
Work it with WM 6.0? Thanks.

Think this has already been answered and it's not available without 6.1.
Please feel free to correct me if wrong?

Windows 6.5 and the weather tab.

Hi all please be gentle as I'm new. And yes this may be the wrong place for this question.
I have seen videos and reviews about the new 6.5 but none of them show what the weather tab will look like as I love the look of the home screen with the big flip clock and tabs on the 6.1 but they look rather plain in just text style I have seen on the 6.5reviews on youtube.
Is it possible to have the advantages of 6.5 but with the old look of 6.1? Are there any photos anywhere? I have tried to do some searches here but have not found what I'm looking for.
Just to add, I don't have one yet but looking into getting one and have read the issues with 6.1 but love the look of the 6.1 (origional Touch HD) So it looks to me that 6.5 is better but lost the look.
Please help
Thanks.

I am running WM6.5 and it is the same as 6.1 (at least from a TF3D perspective). All the tabs are the same as with 6.1. There are different versions of Manila (ie TF3D) viz 2.0, 2.1 and 2.5 which run on both 6.1 and 6.5 (although I have not seen Manila 2.5 on a 6.1 ROM yet).
Perhaps in the youtube video they were showing the Titanium interface, but you have the option of either running Titanium or the more familiar TF3D.
So yes, if you go to a 6.5 ROM you can have all of the benefits of a 6.5 ROM with the familiarity of a 6.1 ROM. Try it, you'll love it.
Thanks very much for the quick reply and clarifying this for me.
Now I just have to find a unlocked new handset for under £400.

You do not need to worry about getting an unlocked one, there are tools here to unlock the phone so that you can flash to any ROM. Read the stickies on the ROM development forum.

Who wants WM 6.1 back

Hello Folks,
even though I risk to become the #1 target of ridicule here, allow me to announce that I want Windows Mobile 6.1 back...and a stylus.
For productive usage, nothing beats a stylus. Tapping small items, etc... . And the new start menu is a PITA too...
What do you think?
why do you want it back? just keep it! It won't eat up itself. I hate it to be honest.... never used the traditional WM homescreen. Hate the old start menu. And hate to pull out the stylus for every move. I'm so happy they moved to start menu to the bottom and you never again need to get out the styles to only close an app because you couldn't hit the f...g X with your fingers....
No Of course
The reason is very simple
Some good build WM 6.5 with Manila 2.1 Sense can be simple fast like WM 6.1
So i don`t like the Old Start Menu and all ugly Apperiance.. and i wonder WOW when i by my Blackstone with the Stock ROM how do i like this device befor?... maybe because i didn`t have alternative and didn`t know about the new Windows
the 21XXX are really Stable and Fast.. so i can Enjoy Everyday Use with Eye Candy
Have you been drinking today? WM 6/6.1 was once the WORST things that ever happened to Microsoft

In my WM6.5 ROM build 21893, I pushed to make it resemble WM6.1 as closely as possible. I've already figured out how to remove the WM6.5 lockscreen and use the one from 6.1 but I'm still trying to figure out how to replace the start menu with WM6.1's start menu. I like a lot of the features of 6.5 but hands down, 6.1 is just so much faster and more stable.

unless someone is forcing a new phone into your hand u can keep 6.x wm as long as the hardware lives in the device!!
untill you actually use WP7 keep and open mind!!
well i donot really want it for regulary use for sure but would love to try a classic version just for fun. although i doubt how my hd2 will react to it
it'll b like feeding my rottweiler beast with a small toast of egg.

I like WM6.1 style too (now using WM6.5, but it's for testing only)
I'm going back to 6.1 as soon as I find the right ROM. I really appreciate what everyone has done with 6.5 but 6.1 works better for what I use my phone for.
So far nothing I've heard about 7 has told me it would be anything but worse.
I upgraded my TP2 to WM 6.5 and I have to say I didn't like it so I've but it back to the stock 6.1 ROM and it'll stay that way until I get a WP7!
all those who want the return of 6.1 are not consistent. Here we are on a website developement. and consequently. it means changing things .6.1 is part of the Jurassic era .. this is only my opinion

What he said ^
I won't go back to 6.1 as there is little to no ROM support these days, but i do like having more info on the screen, all this "finger friendly" stuff actually slows me down. I do like what has been done with kinetic finger scrolling, but fail to understand why all my fonts and icons have to be so damn big. If we are running resistive screens, we should at least be able to take advantage of precision.

IMO 6.1 was great.... until they released 6.5
Now that I have it I can't image switching back to stylus usage and having start menu on top is horrendous!!!

Yep, more stable and faster in my opinion
I've just gone back to 6.1.
I was using Android for over a year and more and more I've been missing WM.
So, I got myself a cheap Touch 3G, installed 6.5.3 on it, played for a few days, got annoyed with the stupid layout of things, and installed 6.1 back on it.
I've really missed it.
on my device (toshiba g810) WM 6.5 28014 works as good as WM 6.1

[Q] Modified taskbar

Hello there. I know that WM 6.1 is pretty much dead, but i'm still using it cause 6.5 isn't as fast as 6.1 on Blackstone. I've searched a couple of forums for a decent taskbar, couldn't find something to suit my taste, but instead i found an interesting taskbar for WM 6.5 which fits and works almost perfect, except for the "x" and "ok" buttons which show as a white square, due to the difference between the WM 6.1 and the WM 6.5 OS. If anyone who's a savvy in taskbars could help me and point me in the right direction to edit those 2 files and settings in the cab file in order to replace them with the default ones or any other files, i'd appreciate it. Below i attached 2 screenshots of the taskbar to see what i'm talking about. Thanks
P.S. Modified it. No further assistance needed.

...c`mon man....some basic info....what did you found (name, where, link)...if you succeeded in modding - how, and you might also share...!!!...like so many people here on xda...there are a lot of us using 6.1-you are right about the speed...cheers
Someone from another forum modified it for me. I posted the taskbar for wm 6.1 in Windows mobile themes section. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086646
