I just thought I'd take a moment (one previously spent fiddling with my phone) to say well done and thank you to both Tom_Codon and meschle. Which ever flavour of ROM you've decided to put on your device I'm sure you'll agree that it has breathed new life into it.
I for one feel as if I just got a new phone. I haven't soft reset since Friday (which is a shame as I do like my animated splash screens), all my apps are set up, my home screen is just the way I like it....... so what do I do now?
Congratulations guys your efforts are much appreciated and I for one look forward to finding something more constructive to do with my time than hard-resetting my phone (well for a week or two anyway).
Cheers
Matt
I totally agree with you!
It's really amazing what these guys have created.. I don't know what would make my phone better than now. It's nearly perfect, just as I need it as my constant companion.
In this way, thanks mates..
lets be careful though
.....come on guys, I know the likes of Tom and Meschle are fantastic guys - with a lot of skill....but lets not make their heads TOO big....lol
If we big them up too much HTC might hear about them and take them away from us

I think Tom and many other cooks etc are well able to beef up the skills in HTC etc, but would not last long there.
Tom likes to produce new roms every month, but will be told 'that feature you just cooked is fantastic. We can sell that as the the new feature in next years model. We dont release new features unless we can sell them with hardware'

Thanks matt - this is encouraging Lets not forget fracoon - hope you finish your rom soon your beta is very promising
Well, I only know this forum for 2 weeks, but I could say that I am really impressed of the great work done on these ROMs.
I can't imagine the amount of work it is, but for sure the result is amazing
I'd like to put my 2 pennies in as well...
Thanks guys, tom meschle, fracoon and who ever else there is... i've had my xda orbit for a while, had other xda's b4, and work with loads of xda's, but since joining this forum, my xda has hit another level...
the time and effort u guys put in, my hat goes off to u guys... ive bin trying to cook my own rom, but failed miserabley, but i'll keep trying... im sure uguys will help
thanks again guys...
I can see a new MTV show coming soon; Pimp My PPC
Bunch of Cordon Bleu chefs in the kitchen taking some sad old OEM XDA and cooking away until voila! A new pimped-up device handed over to the poor ole charity case that will be able to now proudly be seen once more down the pub with his mates (a position for me I think )
Respect Gents, you make a good product so much better
Thanks to all
I also wish to thank all the people, who make ROMs and which happen to be much better than the original one.
This forum is a knowledge base for those who owns Pocket PCs. At times it is better than the manufacturers' support pages. To those who have created the Cook ROMS, you guys has shown a thing or two of how to make a ROM stable. Keep the good work.
If i can i would give 1000 Stars to the xda forum!!!
Is is the best i personally know and i deeply hope from the bottom of my heart that out friends like tom_condon and coolgadget come back.
There are only a few people kicking at the the forum - and most of us live the right spirit of the forum!!!
I think that it is interesting to buying a htc thanks to this forum because with original roms does not work well. 1000 stars to xda. We have new phones thanks to developers of the forum.
RESPECT
I absolutely agree with macguffin.
I've had tom's bb3.7 and 4.0, and I was totaly amazed! Until I join the xda forum I had my device with slow wm5, but now THANKS TO LOCAL GUYS I have brand new Artemis - I couldn't even imagine anything like this before. Now I have Meschle's ROM(seems better for me). I'm also sad that a lot of "internet newbies"(don't know how to search and ask) comes here but heads up guys...it's everywhere. I think if we stick together we can make this forum better!
Thank to all of you here who spend your nights with pimping our devices. You show me new way of using my phone. I don't wanna call your names because I know there are a lot of members who want to share their knowledge - no matter how they are skilled.
I'm sorry for my english, it probably isn't too good to describe my feelings.

Thanks to the chefs. Also many thanks to the developers who make the tools, which make these ROM's possible, thanks to Bepe, Pof, A_C, Gullum and NNcuong to mention just a few.
i am using B&B v3 Ger - Rom on my XDA orbit
and its much better than the original wm6. i love it!
hopefully soon the ger version of 4.1 will come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you had searched you would have found ...... this quite accessible ... the only ROM that comes with one is .... this ...
But I think you need to do a fair bit more reading and searching before you go ahead and flashing stuff if you think touchflo is a ROM
Hehehe, thanks alot Zocster...Believe it or not, i did actually search and ive been reading alot of posts! Im not 1 of those forum idiots who randomly posts messages without reading anything...
However, i am TOTALLY new to this world! I decided to ditch the trusty old cell phone and move to a pocket pc/pda phone whatever you wanna call it I have decided on a TyTN and am now getting into the world of cooked ROMs and all the stuff you guys know all about
Im learning!!!

I seeI have an imate jasjam, so yeah you have a front camera I presume you would want to make video calls too then, so may be that ROM i mentioned not for you as it doesn't have video calling dial pad cooked in.
To be brutally honest, Ive had a Sony Ericsson K800i for a year and a half now and have NEVER used the video calling feature Our networks are rather unstable and its expensive, so why bother Im just looking for a fast, reliable ROM

Let me see then ... you have ten or so ROMs to try out took me two months to go through about 30 from pays, tnt, binky11s, now crc and pdacorner as my favs. You need to know what works for you, make sure you read the wiki, you don't want to kill your new toy ey ...
Welcome by the way .. saw it was your second post oh by the way, go the wallabies, even though i live in new zealand! hehe .. and this is for the trinations!
Much obliged Zocster!!!
Thanks alot for your help...I know that forum noobs are often ignored or flamed lol!!!
The problem i have is being a complete newcomer to this stuff...I honestly dont know where to start, I was hoping there would be a poll with "your favorite ROM" or something, then at least id have somewhere to start

Sorry mate, honestly, ... trying it yourself is the only way you can judge, read the wiki, and try out different roms, as i said what is good for me may not be good for you. So go try them all out and make up your mind from experience. I have had my phone for two months and I have been through honestly about 20 or so roms before i made up my mind, each chefs have got their own style and yeah you need to determine what style suits you.
Thanks alot, will definitely do so
One more question...In my research on the P4350 which uses the 200mhz OMAP cpu, i read that there is an app to overclock (and declock) the device, does the TyTN have a similar app??

If you want to keep your device for another couple of years, then no, it is not recommended. it is doable, but it would not be doing your device any favour.
Well since the reviews i read all said the TyTN is powerful enough, im actually more interested in declocking the device when i dont need the power, to save battery life

hmm, you need to try the roms available, and once you get applications such as BT GPS, BT Stereo, MP3 etc going, plus the touchflo extension you mentioned, it ain't all that powerful.
These chefs have done their best to make the most out of a device that is 2 years old. so ... yeah it isn't that powerful, but yes you will determine that when you have run a couple of things on the hermes have fun, ...
Starbase has the cab on his 4shared site. I have had it before, but find it useless, the touchflo that schaps has is better for finger scrolling and quick landscape mode switches however.
Good to see more South Africans here. (From South Africa myself). As Zocster said, just try the roms out. Been flashing my TyTN at least once a week. Just remember to Hard-SPL first.

Glad someone remembered.....
lol thanks guys!!!
Been reading the guides and the wikis, will definitely hardSPL first
first of all make hardspl ! it is the first thing you need to flash into your tytn....what you meen about -toch flo- ? many component may be instaled on any rom. personaly I use 3ppc.net russian 6.1 rom, whith htc home today plugin (one part of tochflo) included. for finger scroling I use ftochFlo, cube not use at all - personaly I found it useless....(anyway - there are some custom cube on 'hacking and developing' section of developers, as for me it much better than original.)
about overclock. sumsung procesors (which use tytn) is wery bad in frequency control. looks like time generator somehow connected whith main frequency - when you changing it, a lot of bugs appear....for example - if you overclocked cpu, you will notice that music/video/e.t.c. will run more fast that it needed. no need to worry about cpu power consumtion - it low anyway for samsung cpu. much more buttary will eat 3g, wifi, backlight e.t.c.
I have been looking into buying an HTC Diamond from Telus, but have kept hesitent due to a few major reasons: poor phone quality, reception, and dropped calls, and sluggish, slow interface.
Browsing the web for feedback and solution, I found an ad on the web offering to update the ROM which would improve in these areas. The person said it would turn diamond from triband to quad band, significantly improving reception, increase the speed of the pda, and the other interesting options. The only problem with that was that he was charging $100 dollars to do this. Thankfully, I discovered this forum, so now there is hope that I can tweak the Diamond. But it seems there is not one definite rom update, but a few. So my question is, do they all provide the basic features of increasing the processing/ display speed, and reception on top of other customized features, or is there a particular one the dude could have been talking about.
I really like the look of this phone, and it will be my first PDA. I don't want to get into some **** though on a 3 year contract. I am not noobish when it comes to these things; in fact, i enjoy messing around with my phone and computer -- customized both quite suitably.
If anyone has a ROM in mind that he or she uses very successfully, is very satisfied, please post it here and link the specs. Any advice, recomendations are welcome. I don't care much for music player, got an iPod, but compatability, accessibility, speed, reliabbility, and battery are very important. Naturally I am not looking for a mini laptop, so the phone aspect comes foremost important. Basically, I am trying to avoid restarting it every 10 minutes, rebooting, all that, which will just add on to the stress.
I also noticed some talk about Manila. What is it exactly? Is it just a theme, or something more. Well, any help is sincerely valued. Thank you.

Hello.
It seems to me you have a lot of reading to do and a lot of catching up.
Bear in mind that all of us in here clearly take the risk of loosing warranty, since all the roms are home made and not official from htc. This means that it is solely your responsibility if something goes wrong.
I respect the fact that you are not noobish but for PDA stuff treat yourself that you are noobish and read from scratch ( friendly advice to avoid probs)
If you want a suitable rom for you it comes down to you and only you to take the risk and start trying what is availlable.
No one can tell you what is suitable for you and if it will work or not etc etc., quality and functionality is totally subjective
I repeat that if you want to try you must get used to the fact of warranty is void with these roms.
So lets begin.
1. understanding what you do is important so here you are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 THIS IS THE BIBLE
2. Roms: look in the forum for the varius roms, see the specs, progs, if you like it try, if not, try another one
keep in mind the above link. read it carefully if you do not want to end up with a bricked device. follow instruction carefully
Finally, i have been flashing roms for a year now in 3 htc devices i have come across and never ever ended up with a brick, however, no warranty.
and again there are ways to get the device back to original state for warranty reasons, you will get there in the forum, but get to know the stuff well and understand them befor you do anything.
Lastly, always read before you ask since most what you need, there is an answer in here.
I hope i have helped you as much as i could and i hope you will get your device up and running with the stuff in here, thanks to the amazing hard work and knowledge of the members/senior members/mods/admins/cooks etc (i hope i have not left anyone out )
Greetings
Keep in mind that *almost all* of the ROMs available here on the diamond forum are for the GSM version of the diamond, NOT the CDMA version (which is what the TELUS model is). Good luck with you research.

thanks a lot everyone. i am gona have a read. nuff respect.
I've been on some other forums wondering what phone to buy, and it seems the tilt2 is the best for me. That being said, I'm not totally sold on it. For you people who've had it long enough, would you recommend it? I'm committed to learning about the best ROM to install over it, so I'm going to try to get away from as many freezes as possible. Of course, I was recommended to *this* wonderful site!
Does anyone have a good place to start for learning on here? There's a freakton of information on here, and I have no problem reading through lots of info, but I don't know where to start!
I would be much appreciative. Thanks!
Welcome to forums
Yes!
Go and get it!!
Rhodium is the best hardware keyboard device to this date!
I´m very happy with mine
This is my 3rd HTC device. With my big fingers, a hardware keyboard is a MUST. The Tilt had a good keyboard, the Fuze had a better keyboard, the Tilt2 has the best keyboard for someone like me. And now that I have to have bifocal glasses , the larger screen is MUCH appreciated.
I say get it as well. I had the Fuze, AT&T's version of the original Touch Pro, for a week and hated it. I just got a Tilt 2 and it's a much better device. I've been using it for a few days and haven't noticed any freezing or bad lag. I've loaded a few programs and done a few registry tweaks and so far I've been very happy with the results. Slingplayer Mobile looks great on this device and I get GPS locks in seconds in both Google Maps and Bing Mobile. The touch screen is very responsive and TouchFlo 3D has really improved in a year. I noticed some complaints about the Widcomm Bluetooth stack but the phone paired right away with my Motorola headset and the handsfree system in my Acura RL and has worked flawlessly with both.
I plan on deleting as many of the stock bloatware programs as I can to free up some memory, but so far the stock AT&T ROM has been fine. The keyboard is awesome - I don't mind having the symbols in the top row as I seem to use them more when typing emails. This is a really nice device.
So what's the favorite ROM around here? Might be a week (or a few evne) before I pick this up, and I want to make sure I have my technology down so I don't keep on flashing.
I have a Motorola Q9h at the moment.... it's what got me hooked on windows mobile. I couldn't believe that I could actually edit the registry! So yeah, I'm all about tweaks, but I remember my first couple weeks and I was all over the place trying to find all the tweaks I needed.
I'm hoping to go into this next move prepared.
My advice is this - make sure you try the phone out first. Try to have a conversation in a moderately noisy environment and see if you can hear the other person, even with the volume on full.
Loud enough for you? If so, then get the phone. Everything else about it is awesome.
If not loud enough, forget it, find a different phone made by a company who doesn't assume all their customers have bionic ears. It will drive you crazy and frustrate you every phone call, and there is no fix.
The best rom for me which is closest to stock as possible is here. I currently have been running for about a month and this is stable and great. Very close to the ATT stock rom.
It's a terrific phone, I highly recommend it. The keyboard is the best I've ever used, the screen is gorgeous, and the build quality is fantastic. If you're looking to start somewhere, I recommend the following links: XDA-Developers Wiki article on the Rhodium and Flashing your first Rhodium ROM. Of all the places to start, those are probably best. The stickies at the top of the forums are also good to read, as they often contain important information.
Also, as many will tell you, there is no best ROM. I personally like EnergyROM Leo for my purposes, but other ROMs may work best for what you prefer to do with your Rhodium. I would recommend looking in peoples' signatures and seeing what ROMs people are using, or better yet, flash them all and see what works for you. Now that that's out of the way, welcome to XDA-Developers!
Perfect Dave!! Thanks a ton!

Unless he's having specific issues or a WM veteran I don't see why you'd point him to how to flash a ROM first thing... Probably let him use the device out-of-box for a bit.

The OP was interested in information concerning cooked ROMs, and where a good place to start would be. I figured that they'd want to know the process of installing one since they were inquiring about which one they should flash, and I thought that link would be a good place to start (when concerning ROMs). It's not like they have to flash one just because I linked there, and if they'd seen the instructions already there's no harm, so I thought I was being helpful by posting a useful related link. IMO there's nothing wrong with using a device out of the box (I did for ~1 year), but the OP requested more info on ROMs and I simply gave it to them.
I've had my Tilt 2, for 2 weeks.
And I LOVE IT !!!
And i'm already a flashing whore ..........

Yeah, I've been using WM for 2 years now on my motorola q9h. The tweaking aspect is the reason I *want* to stay w/WM... and I was definitely looking for exactly what dave posted!
Also, as I indicated in a few posts, I want to know as much as I can before actually getting the phone so I can flash it, tweak it, set it up how I want it, and then not touch it so that I can keep a stable environment. I don't want to lose my messages and things...

Let's leave your mom out of this
(I'm sorry, I have a chronic condition involving mom jokes)
well.... I just picked up the tilt 2 . it's pretty cool so far but I do notice all the lag people have been talking about... will prolly just take some getting used to.
My advice would be to try and get the out-of-the-box system working, install a few apps / shells / tweaks, figure out what's important to you and then flash. Pretty much any stock rom will be lag-free or lag-minimal. There's a lot of good ROMs / chefs out there. Flashing several will definitely whet your appetite.

I rarely reset my phone for freezing issues, especially on sense 2.1 ROMs. Sense 2.5 ROMs maybe once a week at most. At the end of the day to get a phone that more closely functions how you want it to, a custom ROM is the way to go.
I will say the most stable release I ever used was the stock VZW 6.1 TF3D 2.0. I could run that thing for weeks and still idle at 49%.

There's a couple of things that should be done with all new TP2's to help reduce memory hogging and help performance in general:
First, run the first two cabs below. One switches off push internet for a big resource savings. The other one switches on dynamic memory allocation, which does a much better job of freeing up memory when apps aren't using it.
Next, run the Advanced Config cab below...it's a utility that gives you access to all sorts of deeper-level settings in the phone. When you run it, navigate to the "power management" section, and make the first 7 entries there set to "enabled (advised)"
Do a soft-reset after these, and you should see a significant reduction in memory use and lock-ups.
Lastly, use the Crud Scraper attached below...copy it to your SD card and just run the .exe from there (not your PC). It allows you to uninstall a fair amount of the bloat AT&T was generous enough to include on the phone
Some pretty good advice in this thread for new users. I've been playing with WM since well before it was WM and I've had an overwhelmingly positive experience with it, that is until i moved from the kaiser to the tilt2. I was ready to chunk it and get something else but decided to flash a few roms first. Not expecting much i was surprised by the significant performance improvements and overall appeal the device gained over the stock At&t rom.
My advice, I woudl only try "fixing" the issues with teh stock rom if you are absolutley stuck with it. if you are not stuck using the AT&T rom for some reason flash one, there are several good ones out there and all of them seem to be an improvement over the At&t rom in terms of stability and performance.
guys...i'm in a dilemma and thought you could help me...
maybe this isn't the right section to do so but...didn't have the idea where else to post this
should i swap my hero for a touch pro 2
i love senseUI and android as it is beautiful, simple and so on,but lacks some software (which is not too important but...still counts)
i checked prices and tp2 is still more expensive (maybe because of the OS)
i have experience with abut 15 htc wm devices but never got hands on tp2...
so based on hardware vs hardware and your experience...what do you suggest
Hi farkub,
If I´m not mistaken you had an Universal right?
Go for Rhodium with no doubt!
Is the best hardware keyboard device to this date and 2010 models won´t be better.
Hero is ok but Android is too young and immature for now, perhaps in the future...
Just my opinion
Cheers and hope to see you on this section soon
nah i had artemis, himalaya, magician,hd,hero, diamond, hermes, herald, kaiser, and several more..but you probably ran into me in general and hermes section
i saw your poll...and thank you for it...
as for the immaturity i thought so too
but half of it went away when i got hands on hero...and the other half still stays (birth dates tell for themselves)...maybe 2.1 firmware is better but too bad i'll not have it when the htc's 2.1 upgrade comes out hehe
thanks for the opinion orb, much appreciated
as i thought i will go for tp2...at least for fun because it's a thrill to change and trade phones and to discover every of them
as we all know...there will never be a perfect one (the technology goes on and it's not quite good for the market to give the perfect one to the crowds)
hardware to hardware...
TP2 wins .. no brainer!!!!!
In all specs, TP2 is better than Hero!
Software???
I had the HTC Diamond
Windows Mobile sucks!!! It just does not have that many good software out there.. and when you find them.. Prices are higher.
I was waiting for the Diamond 2 to come out.. but got tired of waiting so I tried the Hero...
Wow... I dont see me going back to WM!
Hope that helped!

nah i had artemis, himalaya, magician,hd,hero, diamond, hermes, herald, kaiser, and several more..but you probably ran into me in general and hermes section
i saw your poll...and thank you for it...
as for the immaturity i thought so too
but half of it went away when i got hands on hero...and the other half still stays (birth dates tell for themselves)...maybe 2.1 firmware is better but too bad i'll not have it when the htc's 2.1 upgrade comes out hehe
thanks for the opinion orb, much appreciated
as i thought i will go for tp2...at least for fun because it's a thrill to change and trade phones and to discover every of them
as we all know...there will never be a perfect one (the technology goes on and it's not quite good for the market to give the perfect one to the crowds)

Wow!
You had a lot of devices, nice!
It´s great to know we will be seeing here!, it´s always nice to see familiar members
More than agree with the last part of your post!
Cheers,
so i swapped them today...let's see how long will this relationship last hehe
as for never coming back to WM....i wish i didn't but my current needs are a bit more pointed towards wm because of some specific software which can help me in my studies...i'm studying mechanical engineering and all that great software really helps out sometimes
i really liked android...and i still do,but this was a clean swap 1 for 1,and this still is a phone with better value...and i'm thinking about selling the tp2 already...it's brand new,no scratch on it....with all goodies...so if anyone wants we can talk...but till then i'm gonna enjoy it while i can
and believe it or not...i'm a windoze hater
but software forces me to use it...both in pc and ppc worlds
(but still i use ubuntu most of the time on my pc hehehe)
thank you dan and orb
TP2 owns every other phone I've had, including the sucky iPh*** 3gs..
Hardware vs hardware, it's the smoothest WM phone I've had, using Valkyrie's rom of course.
Update radio, and mess with the settings a little, and you go yourself a bestfriend.
Imo, I think android's are crappp.
oh yeah which rom do you people suggest
valkyrie seems to be a decent one....probably energy roms are good to but that tone of bluer really irritates me
and for the radio...i put blackstone radio rom to a diamond and the battery life doubled...so is the 1.17.**.** blackstone radio also good for this one or you suggest other maybe
and for messing with stuff...that's what keeps me with WM
i'm a tweak freak
Hi
If you are thinking on sell your TP2 let me know (PM)
As for ROM try Energy phoenix (Sense 2.1) this version:
EnergyROM_28008_RHODIUM_04.Dec.2009_Standard
If you can´t find it let me know and I´ll send it to you
Cheers,
is everything blue? ...hope not...i will pm you...but i have to find a way to get the payment...since accepting payments via paypal doesn't work here in bosnia (or that's at least what one guy told me)....any ideas?

Do you have a paypal account already?
If so PM me and send me your email account and I can try making a "test deposit" if 1USD to see what happens
I think it should work

i definitely agree with this. I love android but still to young for me. and the TP2 is an awesome phone, best htc i've ever owned and i always wow people when i pull it out. wouldn't have it any other way!
People know the hero, most peeps haven't seen the TP2 and the keyboard and screen blow them away. i've converted 2 crackphone users over to TP2!! {applause}
