can anyone recommend an app that i can use to send text messages from an touch hd that has the capabilities of saving sent messages ?
cheers
Your phone is already able to do this by default.
Open Messaging (texts or email doesnt matter)
Hit right soft key - Menu
Go to Tools - Then Options
Hit the message tab at the bottom
Enable Keep Copies of Sent Items in Sent Folder

Pretty much any 3rd party app will do this (along with the stock winmo).
I use Vito SMS Chat for my sms. It also has the capability to backup you texts to your SD card!

Is there any good app out there for sending my business card info, or just sending my contact info to someone rather than having to type it all out. I am on the go alot and I plug peoples numbers in and would love to be able to just shoot them over my selected contact info through like SMS. But doesn't seem to be anything out there to do that. I found one app, but only info it will send is Name - Number - Email. I want something that will send all the info in the contact info of my phone, including my website etc... The app I found which is very limited and I don't like is called "Share Contacts Via SMS"
Thanks
bump it up
I use Handcent for many features including this one. You can attach a contact as a vCard or plain text, and you get a checkbox next to each item to include (numbers, emails, addresses, photo). Can't believe this isn't in the stock app!
If you do this a lot and the problem is just re-typing it, you can create and save a template with this info. In the stock SMS app, go to Menu->Settings->Templates. The icon in the upper right will let you create and save a template. Then when you are in the conversation/new message screen, Menu->Insert Template, pick the one you made.
But I would also recommend checking out handcent. I don't use this feature but it's a great app that packs a lot of good stuff.

This is in the stock Messaging app? If so, I don't see anything regarding templates.
Yeah, I don't see this template option in the stock messaging app. And I don't want to use handcent. Any other suggestions

Oh? I have a themed version of the stock app installed, though I stopped using it a while ago myself in favor of handcent. Perhaps the capability was added in by the person who themed it. I know his version of the dialer adds t9 dialing, but there's no note of added functionality on the mms link.
If you like or just don't mind the theme, the one I have is here.
Hello,
Sorry if this question sounds a bit... dumb... but I cant find a way to send an sms to multiple recipients.
I come from sgs2 where i could select as many recipients from my contacts as I wanted but in galaxy nexus stock sms app I cant find a way to do that. I have to type the first letters and then my contacts appear.
Is there a way that i missed ??
I'm afraid there isn't any way to access your "list" of contacts and just check/uncheck boxes to send messages to that particular group of people. You have to type out their name/number in the "to" field. But I know a handful of 3rd party texting apps that allow you to do this, handcent comes to mind... GoSMS maybe?
Create a new sms then type some until you can Select one of the numbers, after that at the end of the number and name of the contact you will see a ", " touch the screen there and type some after the ", " and Select the second contact and so on, or download ex dialer wich have way more features and options than stock gapps, exdialer its free and works great thats what i use

Thanks for your replies guys. I've never used 3rd party sms/dialer programs but i'll do now.
is there a way to disable the factory messaging app?
i'm using Go SMS Pro.
when one person sends me a text with an emojicon, the default app indicates i have new message.
There is no option in android to disable this, I use Handcent SMS and there is an option within the app to disable the default messaging notifications. I would think there would be a simliar option in SMS Pro but can't say for sure as i have never used it.
Good point, I'll dig into the settings.
Why not just hide the icon in the app drawer by pressing menu then hide app. Ive never disabled the messaging app before but i could picture it making you unable to recieve messages.

Or just disable notifications on the stock app.

I'll try disabling notifications in the stock app.

Came here to say exactly this. You will have no adverse effects. I rocked GoSMS (which is good for group sms, popups, and mms but terrible otherwise) for 4 months with messaging disabled in the app manager. It will go to the bottom and never make another peep until you re enable. If you uninstall go or other sms apps you will not get messages though.

If you want to totally disable the app. I used TitaniumBackup to freeze it. Ultimately, I ended up uninstalling it all together, because I was getting a weird notification with every text I would receive and started using GO SMS, but I hated it, so I reinstalled the messaging app and haven't looked back. To my knowledge, that's the only way to actually "disable" it. Otherwise, turning off the notifications and hiding the app should serve you well.

Did you set go as the only sms app under settings -> Tips?
Hi,
Coming from an iPhone background, I am finding the transition to this phone great!!!
One minor problem is group messages of 7 or more getting converted to MMS (as I found out to my expense). Is there an alternative SMS app that doesn't do this??
Go sms
Send from my Z1C using tapatalk
i use chomp sms
MySMS
MySMS is really great. Support different websms Provide, A perfect backup function and a lot more. Free Messages between Mysms users are also included...
Thanks for the replies :good:
I know this thread is a little old, but I remember that there was some hidden options in the SMS app on Gigerbread (3 Android version ago). One of them was whether or not you wanted to auto convert SMS messages longer than 160 characters to MMS. If your phone was rooted, you could edit an xml file to make this option appear so that you could check it.
In the same .xml file, you could actually set the numbers of character required for the auto convert to embark. I remember putting a crazy number.
In the end, on your phone it would still show as one huge message, but the recipient would receive multiple messages of 160 characters. Your phone would do the magic and send regular SMS instead of MMS.
If I can find the thread, I would link it, and then see if those options still works in KitKat on my rooted Z1c.
Check out sliding messaging. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smitten.slidingmms

Textra is hands down the best messaging app I've used. Try it out!
textra is a simplified version of chomp. i just like the more customisation that chomp offers
Guys,
Do any of you use individual sound notifications for either the Phone or Messaging Apps?
I appreciate titles such as GoSMS Pro and Textra for messaging can handle individual sounds but it would be good to hear if the standard apps on the G3 could achieve this?
You can do this with app from gp called MegaSound

Sorry but I don't think I explained it clearly enough..
Basically what I am looking for is an app that when one of your contacts is called into a notification be it a phone call or a text message it plays a sound that identifies the caller.
In the past I have created dozens of individually identifiable text/phone alerts that I use to identify who is either phoning or texting me.
GoSMS Pro and Textra to name but two I have used in the past to give each contact their own individual sound notification.
I was hoping rather than install GoSMS Pro or Textra again maybe I could use the default phone and messaging apps but with some way to identify each of my contacts?

Thanks.... I guessed it would end up like this.
Yet again it's the phone that has individual ringtone but messenger can't have the same.

Thanks but I have two problems with this:-
1. It doesn't allow you to select a pre-made sound file.
2. Are you sure this allocates the same sound file for an individual to both the phone and messaging apps?
