i was wondering how to change the unlock * key , for example to space bar, cause *key is not working so well, which's the registry i have to change to do that??
thanx
i dont think you would have to go into registry at all.
start
settings
security
device lock
make your password "spacebar"
simple
yeah , know that but im talking about to change the * key to space bar but for unlock keaboard, thas it, not to unlock the phone.
thanx anyway
I believe he means, instead of pressing the left menu button followed by the * key, he wants it to be left menu then the [Space] button.
yes , thats it, i can't explain very well in english, but at least someone understood me, thanx
Thats exactly what I was hoping for too! that "*" key is so dang small for my big fingers that the space bar would totally be easier!

Haha, no problem.
You'll get an answer eventually, once someone with a decent registry knowledge drops by.

I was looking through the forum the other day and i found this, it is a way to keep the screen on during a call for the kaiser:
-Screen Going Off Durning a Call Bother You?
If you would like it to never go of during a call then edit this registry key
\HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplay DuringCall

I have looked fr the mentioned registry entry int he hermes and i cannot find it, but there must be an equivalent somewhere.
Does anyone know of how to do this?
Thanks
Have you tried to create that key?

Does anyone know the registry tweak to make the end call button close applications when your in them instead of minimizing them? I remember seeing it but now I cant find the dang post.
I dont think that's possible on a smartphone such as the Excalibur. Although that would be possible on a PPC.

Ahh I thought I read a post of Rip Syntaxx saying there was a reg entry you could change but I read so many posts they all kind of blend into one. Thanks for the response.
Look for a program called AE Button for smartphone...
Excellent little program will let you remap any key, and lets you change the function.
I have my end call button not only end calls, but also close programs instead of minimize..
It will do exactly what you want it to do..
Along the bottom of the phone there's a home button and an endcall which, within programmes, seem to do the same thing - take you back to the today screen. Or, in my case the 6.5 CHome thingy. And the back button in most apps takes you to the home screen too - so that's three buttons largely doing the same thing most of the time.
The new phones with 6.5 preinstalled will have a windows-flag start menu button, I assume this will open up the new hexagony start menu.
Is there a way of remapping the home button so it launches the start menu instead?
That is EXACTLY what I have been thinking for the last days. Pressing Home-key should naturally bring up the start-menu.
Nice idea, even because reaching the top left corner with your right thumb(maybe for left handed it's easier ) while holding the HD with the right hand is a little bit tricky
I'd like something small to do this but I have a feeling most people will return with the suggestion "use aebplus to remap"
I have the same feeling wiggz, There must be a registry key or something that can be changed and put into cab format? Anyone got any ideas?

So, we are many!!
I too have been looking for a way to do this for ages.
I too will be watching this thread with interest and hope.

No aeblus cannot map the home button as it's hard coded into manila!

so as the home button is coded into manila it mean's one has to play with the manila files and remap to start menu all that would mean is to change some scripts!!
bottomline Home button in theory can be mapped to the start menu!! so it's plausible!!!
i'm going to watch this thread as well --- i've been looking for this since I got hold of my HD. I've already remapped the "back" button to S2U2 via AEB since you are correct, essentially the home, back, and end buttons all work very similarly.
Hoping that someone posts a solution to this!
i have the solution...install this program and you can change all the hard keys to do almost any function...i have mine set up to do the exact same thing that you want it to do!!
cheers!!

Thanks, but could give more informations to remap keys, please ? The list is empty when i launch the application ...
Same here. I was so happy when I found this thread..
When I tried installing that, it did not work... Maybe it was my ROM.
There are REG keys that remap home in certain cituations, i.e. manilla but I have yet to find a way to get the reg key to do anything else.
The new keypad.dll maps it to a normal vk_lwin, so you can remap it as you like.
Unfortunately I have not yet seen it an any ROM.

It is for Diamond and the author says here post 10 "For the touch HD, maybe you should download HTCAPI.DLL somewhere, put it in /Windows and try again". Haven't read the whole thread though so not sure if this is what the problem is.
i know its a little confusing to get it started...so heres what you do...install cab, go to program files\dredsensor and click on dredsensor.exe and a config.ini will appear...now close out whatever app you are using to view files...and open dredsensor...now you will see default under name...tap default and then click menu, then edit...change type to launcher...then go to click and tap the gray box next to the home key...go to events and chose Misc:Start, hit select, hit ok to comfirm, change whatever others you want to...then hit save, then hit ok to confirm...then hit exit...then you should be good to go...hope this helps!!

You change the repeat rate from registry
\HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\RepeatRate default 8->4 (or less)
Had no probl. w. double tap to zoom in Opera. You can check the Opera setup with about:config from your browser

Hey, thanks for your speedy reply!! if it were not for people like yourself my diamond would be a very dull device indeed!!
Right, I changed the repeat rate and tried from 4 to 3 to 2 right down to 0 and it seems to have no affect on my problem...for example, on my older builds, if i repeatedly pressed '.....' it would input the dots for however many times I pressed the button into my text, even if it did take a few seconds to catch up...now wen I write a text or somethin, i have to wait until the last letter I have pressed is on screen before I can enter a new letter...if I type too quickly, it misses out loads of letters until it feels ready to recieve a new one...before I could just type away and I always knew it would catch up with itself and remember what I had pressed a few milliseconds ago!! now I can repeatedly hit '.......' and only 1 dot will appear on screen! i have to wait a second before I press '.' again! same with backspace....i used to be able to hit backspace repeatedly very quickly and delete a whole load of text, even if it took a second to catch up, now I press it several times and only 1 letter deletes!! I have to wait a few milliseconds to press backspace again before I can delete another letter! very very tedious!! any ideas??! its really buggin me, its ruining the way I text and email. its not just the dots or backspace...every letter is the same, so its basically impossible to type quickly... I've tried another keyboard 2! 'fingerkeyboard' which is really nice and looks great, but it does the same thing!! last build (6.5q) worked fine and the same way as my original 6.1 rom.
Also with opera, I had alook at the config options, but could not see an option to enable double tap to zoom! I dont suppose you know a registry tweak for that aswel do ya??
Looking forward to your reply!
Kind regards
Ben

It gives me the vibration feedback on every finger stroke, but only scrolls if I move my finger abit slower!! someone who upgraded must have the same problem??! plz help..there must be a registry tweek out there sumwhere to increase the reaction speed of the screen..??

Goodnight people ...
I have a question for you:
Because I hate the touchscreen keyboard, I wanted to know if there was a way to prevent it being opened automatically!
Let me explain .. when I write a new text message, a new mail, when I use opera but when I select any text box, it automatically opens the touchscreen keyboard!
can prevent this thing from happening?
I only use the HW keyboard ... and would prevent the automatic opening of the touchscreen keyboard!
I dug into the registry, more precisely here:
[HKLM \ Software \ Tegic \ eT9]
and all subfolders below ... I could not find anything about it!
How can I do?
Thanx!!!
Try this:
Code:
[I]HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\TurnOffAutoDeploy[/I] = 1
[I]HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\AllowChange[/I] = 0
[I]HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Disable Auto SIP[/I] =1 (Note the space in "Internet Explorer"; there's a different directory without the space)
I found these online, so I don't know if they'll work.
Actually, I think only the second tweak ('AllowChange') is necessary. I remember trying it before. You have to know, however, that it will (should) completely disable the virtual keyboard; you can only launch the SIP by changing the value back to '1'.
yeah i used to turn it off with a tweak program. turning off auto works most places but not in opera. however later builds of opera wont show the onscreen keyboard if the physical is kicked out.
thanks for explanation ... really helpful, but my intention was not to completely disable the keypad, but only prevent it opened automatically!
I don't like the on-screen keyboard popping up all the time either. So I took an interest in this thread. I found that of the suggested registry changes mentioned above, the oly one I needed to impliment was this one:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\TurnOffAutoDeploy = 1
This seems to keep the on-screen keyboard from popping up on its own, but still allows me to access the keyboard when I need it.
Hopes this is helpful...

I tried one of the tweaks I listed a few months ago. I think the "AllowChange" tweak disables the launch (auto and manual) of the virtual keyboard.
I remember helping someone on an EnergyROM thread about this same topic. He wanted to completely disable the virtual keyboard, so he was happy with the tweak.

You could just add a DWORD for the "TurnOffAutoDeploy" key. That should suffice.
You're welcome for the tweak, but I understand the problem of having to remod the registry and soft reset when you need it. Maybe you could push for an app that can "switch" the registry key for you without a soft reset?

You're right... I never thought to create the DWORD!
I try now... and then I post the result!
PS: I can create an app that modifies the registry to enable and disable the touchpad, but I think it is impossible to avoid the SR, because without it, the touchpad still does not work even after I edit the registry, because this type of change requires necessarily an SR to become effective.
I've tried to add manually the DWORD "TurnOffAutoDeploy=1", but the problem isn't solved!!!
PS: I can create 2 different CAB... 1 for "Powering ON" and 1 for "Powering Off" the Touchpad... because i'm not a programmer, and i haven't the necessary competence to create an application in c++!
The only one problem, is that i don't know how to avoid the SR necessary to make active the change!
If I find a way to solve the SR problem, i have solved my touchpad problem!

You can try Mobilnaut SYM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459253).
When Mobilnaut SYM is activated, the SIP does not pop up when the keyboard is open.
for my it work with the "Deploy" reg kack. the "allow" one killed it all toghether. I't wouldn't apear, even if i click it.
I have a diferente problem now. I'm Portuguese, I need special char "ç" a lot. my harware keyboard doesn't have that. so I have to pop up the SIP every time just for that one.
Can someaone develop a small app i can link to a hardware button, that all it does is type "ç"?
Thank you!
