January 9 Update: aGPS now working. If you're having QPST issues, try the bigjr99's fix that ScratchyPDX recommended here. This allowed me to get QPST to recognize my Vogue in XP. THe real issue, though, was allowing the leaked Verizon ROM to run its customizations. This installed custom Verizon drivers that essentially lock down the GPS even if you reflash the radio. The fix I used can be found here.
-------------ORIGINAL POST-----------------
I posted this over at PPCGeeks, but I figured I'd try XDA too. I've tried the instructions both on the XDA wiki and on the PPCGeeks post, unsuccessfully. I'm not sure what the problem is. I haven't seen anyone with a similar issue, and I've been fiddling with various settings for a while.
I'm still having a problem getting this to work. It doesn't automatically install the drivers, I have to manually select them (plus, it only works in Vista). So then I follow all the steps exactly, the only difference is I only get one COM port in QPST (com3, which says SURF... next to it). So once I set everything up, GMaps and LiveSearch both find the GPS but never find any satellites.
My Vogue was set up as follows: xv6900 > official leaked Verizon ROM > 2.31 unlocker > NFSFAN Verizon 1.09, and uses the 3.77 radio. I had GPS working great with the Valhalla CAB on the leaked ROM, and I'm considering reverting back to that.
Please help! Is anyone having the same problem?

Edit: I'm evidently not the only one with this problem. Hopefully it'll get some more visibility.
I am experiencing the same issue. Trying NFSFAN 1.10 right now. I'll let you know if I find a solution, it could work for you as well...
Thanks for the reply-glad I'm not the only one. I quite like my current ROM in terms of speed and stability, and I've read reports of it working on NFSFAN Verzion 1.08, so hopefully it get sfigured out soon.
Same issue here. I've tried using NSF's 1.10 and Drellisdee's 1.12 and can't get either to work. I haven't reverted back to the leaked rom yet, but I was working fine with the leaked rom and valhalla also. Hope someone can find the fix.
Take a look at this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3123850&postcount=7
If I understand your problem description, I was having the same problem until I read that post. It worked!
Good luck.
BTW - I'm using NFSFAN's Verizon 1.09 ROM
same issue here with OMJ ROM
I was able to get through the qpst programming and loaded the GC VerizonaGPSfix cab. I still can't lock on any satellites.
Maybe not ROM Specific.
I am using Radio 3.42.50.
My issue is not getting qpst to work as i have already done this. It seems that there is a gps issue with using the 3.37 radio on these roms even if you have gotten it running on the stock leaked rom with customizations run.
madsuse, you must be having some other issues as with your radio veraion and a properly run agps fix you should have no problem with omj's roms. I had the same set up as you prior to the leaked rom with no issues.
This thread at PPC Haven might help: http://www.ppchaven.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=168&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=25
I've tried some of what was suggested, it still isn't working for me, but it might help. Some people are having similar problems.
@bigjr99: I think that might be it. Quite a few people have had trouble with the aGPS fix and NFSFAN ROMs, especially on the VZW radio. However, it has been done before, so I'm really not positive. I"m going to try the new Bell radio 3.42.50 and see if it makes a difference, then I'll give up on NFSFAN (apparently he's left several forums now, once for warez and then just recently for abusing moderator priveleges) and switch to either OMJ or WDM.
@ScratchyPDX: thanks! it works on my computer (in XP) now, no need to borrow a vista one. But it doesn't change anything else, I can reach QPST and successfully program w/out getting any satellites.
I am definately thinking it has something to do with the 3.37 radio and running customizations on the leaked rom. I tried multiple different roms including nsfan, omj, drellisdee, and one other. Neither the agps fix or valhalla worked on any of them.
I have now reloaded the leaked rom and again let customizations run. did the agps fix and google maps would show me in the middle of the pacific. Ran valhalla and moved around files to the correct places and instant dead on gps.
I don't know what the problem is, but it looks like I am stuck with the leaked rom until I go back to radio 4.42
bigjr, you mean I guess radio 3.42?
I've confirmed the problem is related to not the radio, but the CUSTOMIZATIONS on the Verizon ROM. They replace the GPS drivers with some idiotic VZ-Navigator-specific crap. If you're feeling daring try this and let me know how it works:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=581029&postcount=204
So, no problem with NFSFAN or even the radio. just the customizations, which is hard to revert to (cuz there's no previous VZW ROM, and running Bell/Sprint customization willl prob. just f*ck things up even more). I'm not sure how the 3.42 radio-only flash would affect the drivers. This is my understanding as of now, correct me if I'm wrong!
This may do the trick, I haevn't tried it yet though: http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS
Yep, that was the problem. Awesome sub-15s locks indoors with mediocre cell reception. Anyone who let leaked-VZW customizations run before flashing a custom ROM be sure to check out this post!
If you are using my Verizon Rom, only steps 1-15 must be performed from the AGPS Fix
AWESOME!
Thanks, now I can use GPS freely.
Fabio
@NFSFAN: Yep, everything was already set up. But the VZW Leaked customizations still screw things up. Great ROM NFSFAN.
Have any of you guys tried upgrading to the Bell 3.42.50 radio?
I've been running it since August. I use both google maps and TomTom6.
I am a Pilot with AirCanada Jazz, I live in BC, I am based in Montreal.
I fly varied routes across the East coast / Eastern canada
My GPS never fails to pick up sats within 10 seconds, no matter what program, no priming necesary. I'll use TomTom in my car in Montreal, fly home to Castlegar then use it in my Van there....no probs.
I even showed it off once using Google maps to show us lurching down the runway in Montreal and departing east, it kept up untill we accelerated through 160 kts, then the maps couldn't keep up (still showed lat/long though)
Cheers

jmitr, I've floashed my radio to 3.42 and back before enabling aGPS, and there's very little difference in trems of connectivity. Some people report that 3.37 gives slightly better service, although 3.42 may work better in low-reception areas (I can't confirm this, I've just seen posts about it). I'm very satisfied with 3.37 though, I'm trying not to mess around to much now that mine is working so well.
If you do choose to upgrade radios, you would have to reconfigure using QPST on Verizon. I'm not sure what your carrier is, but you may be able to find the QPST codes/instructions over at 2nd post of this thread on PPCGeeks.
Edit: oh wait, according to your signature you don't have to worry about any of this. This thread covers problems on Verizon Wireless XV6900s. I guess that was more of a suggestion for us, and no, that doesn't work. The files that the VZW ROM brought along are not affected by radio switches, sadly. I've tried.

i have been working at this for 3 days now. have done all the steps in many different forums. the lastest was the agps fix form here in xda. i then installed tom tom but stated that there is no valid gps device. i was ot able to dl the agps provisioning cab though. the link does not work does anyone have cab? tried using the valahalla cab as well but that still did not work.

Tell me all the ROM updates and radio updates you've installed, and I may be able to help.
Also, Test using Google Maps or Microsoft LiveSearch. Once those lock on, then launch TomTom.

Hmm, I'm really no expert on this stuff, I can only speak for what worked for me. If you let the customizations run when you flashed the ROM, then Valhalla should be working for you and I'm not sure what the problem is. If you haven't let them run, you need to perform this fix.
I have a Verizon Vogue and cannot get the GPS to work. it had the standard ROM on it out of the store then i upgraded it with the official WM6.1 ROM but i let the customizations run. a few weeks later i found a ROM from NFSFAN that i liked so i re-flashed my Vogue with the newer Alltel rom (to get the newer radio) but i didnt let the customizations run that time. i then used the unlocker 2.31 from coke (again not letting customizations run.) i then flashed NFSFAN's ROM. i cannot get the GPS to work. when i run GPSViewer it scans my ports and says it finds a GPS on com 4 at 4800 baud. it seems to successfully open the GPS but it never gets a satellite, i stood outside for 10-15min. i tried it with Google Maps and its never connects. i told Google maps to use windows settings for the GPS, also i tried to tell Google Maps to use Com 4 at 4800 baud and eventually it says no GPS found. i even followed a guide telling me how to use QPST to modify the GPS settings including the ip to the GPS server. any help would be greatly apreciated. i would really like to use Google Navigator from PDAfun.

yeah, you and alot of other people, some are reporting that VZW has locked down the aGPS/GPS access and found all the hacks and other custom settings and blocked it so it would seem that they are enforcing the $10/moth GPS plan as some are stating that they signed up and got the GPS back
Others of course are saying that switching the port in the registry from 8888 to 8889 works for a while then you have to change it back to get it to work again as well...
Im not on VZW so I couldnt be positive about any of it, just from what Im reading from users on VZW reporting stuff

hey thanks man, i will give that a try. but first i just want to make sure that downgrading the radio will even work and/or wont brick my phone. this is assuming those verizon ROMs do include the radio. also, do i just start step 1 from where i am now with the newer radio and custom ROM currently flashed?

The whole problem is that you let the customizations run in the first place. You need to flash a pre non-GPS ROM & radio. I would not have upgraded to the Alltel Radio as I don't believe that there is really any benefit. This is unless you know people in your geographic region have had success upgrading their radio.
Yes Start with Step #1
When you get to step #4 like it says don't let the customizations run. At this point your GPS should be functioning. You'll need to download the Holux GPS Viewer or the HTC one. Make sure that your phone location setting is turned on & not set for 911. setting--->phone--->services tab---> location setting ---> get settings button with one of these Gps viewers you should be able to get a lock it may take awhile. As long as you start to see red satellite dots you are probably good to go. This means that he GPS is functioning.
You can probably skip the last step if all else goes well.
Good Luck!
wiki works but
when I went through it at the first step. the phone kept on rebooting right after alignment. freaked out a lil bit. But it did stabilize. just keep the sd card out of the phone.

keeping the sd card out of the phone is KEY - after alllll the things i tried, i went back to http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS and ran through it without the SD card in . . . flashed NFSFAN's windows 6.5 v5 ROM, fired up GPS Viewer and for the first time in AGES saw the red satellite dots . . . a few soft resets later and I'm getting 6-7 sats locked on from inside my work!

Once you have your phone unlocked with 2.31 you want to leave it unlocked because otherwise there is a good chance your GPS will not work.
ok i finnaly got my phones gps to work this is what i did reset the pri with the stock rom with the 1.30 radio then updated the radio from bell. No gps hacks were need i get a lock with 7 sat. in about 10 sec. o yea im using my own custom rom.
Tried it all, guess we are going to have to settle
I too have a VZW xv6900 that used to have an awesome GPS, that is now not so awesome. I have tried all the suggestions - from using the telus agps server, switching the ports, using the qpst fix for both vzw and telus, valhalla, removing the memory card, standing on one foot and yelling at it and what it seems to boil down to is no aGPS for vzw users.
Sure you can make the gps work standalone with no aGPS by changing the SUPL gps mode regkey to 2 instead of 4, but it's slower to get fix, doesn't work in buildings very well, and overall crappy compared to what we used to have - which I think is what most people have done (either intentionally or unintentionally) when they say they got it to work.
If anyone has figured out a way to get aGPS working on VZW I would love to hear it... I really miss those instant locks
I did not have to run QPST at all. I made the mistake of running the updated VZW rom which locks gps. Followed steps from the WIKI and flashed NFSFANs newest ROM turned my phone location setting on and I'm picking up satellites quickly.
I got my gps viewer working with port 4, but my current location w/ google map doesn't work. What is going on?

Yup! i have more than 6 red dots when I clicked in the viewer page, but I cannot find my location within google map.
well after searching around for hours trying to figure how I can get my gps enabled the simplest way for google maps, I still don't understand what I need to do. here's my rom version, release date, and my radio number:
3.14.605.1 rom
10/3/08 rom date
3.37.78 radio
I got the update from the verizon support page. I've downloaded gpsserver and I also have gps test, and gpsviewer. when I upgraded the rom, I didn't stop the customization step. I have an 8gb sdhc card in as well. I don't really want a highly custom rom but if I do need to update it, what's the best one to get? I have an unlimited data plan so I'm not worried about the gps being agps or just gps. whatever will work the fastest. will I have to reauthenticate my phone? if I need to download anything else please give me a working link.
does anyone have any suggestions??

No need to upgrade your radio. Some users are using a Bell radio 3.42.xx but I wouldn't bother with it.
What is really screwing you up is letting the customizations run. Even if you were to do a hard reset you will still be screwed. Letting the customizations run basically make the GPS useless unless you use the VZ Navigator. The customizations changes config settings deep into the ROM that a hard reset may do nothing but it is worth a shot.
The GPS on my phone worked on my Vogue without any fixes by not letting the customizations run. However it was not perfect but I was able to get a lock.
The threads below may be of some help to you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497690
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496494
If all else fails then you may have to resort to flashing a pre-GPS rom & radio then flash back making sure that you do not let the customizations run.
Note: This will void any warranty that you might have.

well I figured out a way that works but it's beyond me why it does. I did the vw update with radio v. 3.37.78 from their site and let the customizations run. did the soft reset, then installed valhalla gps server, another soft reset, then installed serf agps telus and one more soft reset. I then ran gps viewer and found that satellites were starting to lock. opened google maps 3.0, enabled gps and with a minute, I had my position locked and tracking with anywhere from 4 to 8 satellites tracking. so everything is good to go I guess. one thing I noticed though, when I use gps viewer, I am acquired by the gps but my position is anything but being in one spot. the coordinates jump around to any possible combination. the speed seems relatively accurate but updates slowly it seems. I also downloaded a free program called gpscyclecomputer to see if I could get some better live numbers for movement and position but they're just ar crazy as the gps viewer. any

Glad you got it working. People have had success with the valhalla gps server for quite a while. Then Verizon did something to shut it down. Now I guess one of the fixes is this serf agps fix. This route will work fine if you have a data plan which I don't.
I would worry so much about the lat & long numbers jumping around. I see this with Tomtom too. The important thing is that you are now getting a lock.
GPS Server
Thank you for this wonderful app! When I first installed it, all was well used the "location" function in Google Maps - perfect! But then it quit working, for no apparent reason. I performed a "hard" reset on the device, and re-ran the GPSServer cab, and I still cannot get it to work on either of my devices. Did Verizon distribute a "poison pill" to disable the GPS again? Please help.

Ok assuming because your using a stock verizon rom you let verizon's customization run as well. Which is possibly why you have this issue. Don't let any customization unless its a Custom rom

I don't believe all the steps above are completely necessary
*Install Coke 2.31 Unlocker
*Flash a stock rom without gps (I used an old sprint rom like above)
*Reset with pin just before customization
*Flash Verizon's newest Stock rom like above (I have used and confirmed works great)
*Reset with pin just before customization
*Flash a NSFAN rom of your choosing 6.1 or 6.5
*Let Customizations Run!
*Install A GPS app of your liking (I use tomtom, nsfan always includes GPS viewer)
Side notes
As each rom is installed if you accidentally let it startup fully dont worry its ok, Its just very important not to run Customization for the stock roms.
If you need to use active sync during these steps make sure you
*Remove from Airplane Mode
*Un-check option under USB to PC (fast syncing)
Is this the defiitive answer to this? I have radio 3.37.78 and I thought attempting to downgrade the radio was a very bad idea.
Got it fixed see post below for what worked for me.
Okay I got aGPS working on stock Verizon 3.14 Rom with 3.37.78 Radio. Didnt have to use QPST or anything! What I did was installed Vahalla Fix. Then Telus Fix for Vahalla then out of sheer chance I then installed the cab below. Did a *22899 phone rebooted, loaded up google maps and got lock within 5 sec inside my apartment, nowheres near windows. By the way I live in florida so my apartment has about 10 inches concrete walls. I dont know where I got this cab from but seems to have done it for me. Im going to try to NFSFAN's v9 rom and see If I have the same luck.

By the way I live in florida so my apartment has about 10 inches concrete walls. I dont know where I got this cab from but seems to have done it for me. Im going to try to NFSFAN's v9 rom and see If I have the same luck.

Just do a quick search on the forums. I used the VahallaGPS Server from the wiki then used Telus for Vahalla cab then used the cab posted on my last post.

So Install the vhalla fix, then telus fix and the GC Verizon aGPS.cab and dial *22899. when it reboots, is it a soft reboot or hard reboot. I don't want to loose anything on the phone. Also Does the GPS Use any DATA, because my phone has a data block. I will like to have a gps with my phone, without using data.
Thanks
If you could post up the cabs when you get them it would be awesome. And also an update to tell us if you got GPS working again

Update: I've gotten it to search for GPS but has a weak signal and not been able to get some. I am going to try to get in a clear space to check if it does work or not.
I've also uploaded the files and here's a link for step by step instructions:

I have been reading these post for hours and i am lost.
Can someone help. Hopefully I have not messed things up to bad. I tried to follow post 13. but when i open google maps it only says seeking gps satellite (0)
I am completly lost and really need help....i think in fact my brain is throbbing.
When i try to run the QuickGPS it tells me valid time : expired (not sure why
Windows 6.1 Pro
Rom is (3.14.605.1)
Rom date 10/03/08
radio 3.37.78
Please please please help.
You need to follow the wiki, to the letter.
http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS
I followed it exactly as instructed, and now (for past couple of months) have fully functional aGPS working on my Verizon XV6900. Note, you will be downgrading your radio to 3.37.77, but if you follow the process from beginning to end it will work.

I would flash NFSFAN's ROM then see if your GPS works. You shouldn't have do the aGPS fix.
This worked for me
Stock XV6900 MR1
Windows 6.1 Pro
After unsuccessful attempts at getting GPS working by using the Valhalla_GPS_Fix, Serf Telus aGPS, GC Verizon aGPS, editing the regestry and numerous *22899 programmings, I ended up doing the following and GPS starting working great:
- Downloaded and installed VZ Navigator (I did not run the program or subscribe to the VZ Navigator service)
As soon VZ Navigator was installed (as stated, I have not run the program or subscribed to the VZ Navigator service) the XV6900 was able to quickly lock onto satellites using the GPSTest program. Google Maps is now using GPS perfectly - which was my goal.
I found that using the HTC QuickGPS program to download the most current satellite location data before starting the GPS seems to most always help.
Hope this can help someone else loose a little less sleep...

Could someone answer the thing in bold. I would really like to know this. I don't have a data package and would not want a huge bill coming at the end of the month saying that I've been using the data. I know s.lanso got his to work even though he has a DATA block but could someone else confirm?
The answer is it depends on how your phone is configured. It your phone is configured as GPS mode 2 or 4, then the phone will try to use the data from the towers to get a quicker fix.
If it is configured as a mode 0, then it just uses the sats and no data connection is needed.
You will need PHM registry editor to check and possible change these settings.
I don't have the exact keys right ion front of me, but do a forum search on hklm and you should find it.

After flashing the newest Paranoid Android and running for a few days I suddenly lost data. My phone states that my phone is roaming, so I tried turning data on and off and switching on airplane mode and then I settled on switching back to the ROM I was previously on, the latest MIUI and to my dismay saw that the same issue was occurring. So now my phone has no data on every rom I try and I dont know how to remedy this. If anyone has the same issue or anything to say that might help it would greatly appreciated. I still have 4 months to go on my contract and no money for Verizon's ETF or a replacement phone.

Have you tried re-installing your PRL? Call *228 and press send, use option 2. That'll re-load the preferred roaming list.
What recovery are you using (CWM or TWRP - and ver. #) and is your DI2 S-Off ? Please post your current Bootloader information (HBoot) and whether you have Backups for your (previous) Roms on your mSD card?
Assuming that your device can still making voice calls (SMS ??) - does it work over WiFi ? And, you have already done *228 option 1 - as it sometimes help reset it?
It is sometimes necessary to call VZW and speak to tech support for smartphone and they need to reset things and power cycle your device while you are on the line with them on a different phone to get you out of roaming, depending on the "radio" that your device is now. Hopefully, you did not somehow flashed the leaked non-VZW radio/kernel from China Telecom.
Before calling VZW, it would be helpful if you can flash a Sense-based ROM, either one of the stock zip file or Andybone's tweaked Sense Rom based on OTA, or the SkyRaider's Zeus v1.3 Sense Rom - and, if your phone was Sim-unlocked, can you check to see if it will work in GSM mode for voice & data (borrow a known-working AT&T or T-Mobile Sim card) Remember to do a Master Reset, wipe dalvik/cache & system before flashing a different Rom.
And, you should read up the sticky posts written here about restoring the device back to stock - just in case. The steps are slow & delicate, but it can be done - relax & don't panic.

I have done multiple AntiVenom wipes to no avail, and only WiFi is working for me. I have not yet attempted to flash an older sense based Rom so I will try that. My only question is can VZW access and get my phone out of permanent roaming with my phone having no data or 2G?
P.S. - I did not flash the Chinese radio/kernel. Just checked

I see, I've seen DI2 in similar situations but usually, VZW tech support can do some resetting of the stored info on their database to try to restore it, and the best way to make that easier is to restore/go back to a near/pure Sense-based ROM. Once you do that, and you are prompted to "activate your phone OTA" - try to make a call - if you can dail out but the call cannot go thru, you should hear an automated voice msg. that there is error processing your call, ask you to hang up, power down & restart - and try again after waiting 5 to 10 minutes. The msg. will ask you to call # **** - make sure you can call from a home/office/different wireless number as they will go thru the troubleshooting & power cycle/reset process - should take 10 or 15 minutes, and will have you make a test call & verify connectivity success at the end. Informed them that you've done a Master Reset. (FYI - This involved updating, re-generating the good old "A" security key(s) used to identify the phone and the ESN/MEID stored for each device - somehow, the flashing of some Roms & wipe/reset totally dumped clean all of that info, and it needed to be re-established. )
The next step is to re-flash a Sense-based Rom that's stock or close to it -

From the device's Settings - About Phone - look for your radio's info - is it .0312 or .0320 (ICS-based) or an older radio like 0.1111 - after you flashed the Sense Rom, please check it again, and if you could - follow the Sticky's to get the 0.312 radio or even the 0.1111 radio in a Zip file, copy/move to mSD card, restart into Bootloader & flash it - restart and see if it can make calls/use data. If not, VZW tech support is your best friend to reset those Android handshaking of the security keys as stored on their database ...

I will be doing all of these as soon as I get home from school. Thank you for all your help so far
Try dialing some of the *228 variants such as *22801, *22802, and so on. I had a similar issue where the radio got all messed up. Verizon store was so close to selling me a new phone, but when I made this suggestion the sales guy tried it and it cleared up my issue. My prl I think was totally hosed and needed to be reprogrammed ota.

So I have moved back to stock Sense 2.3.3 with S-ON and there is still no working connection. At this point would I call VZW? and since i cannot call from my cell phone would i still call the *228 number or not? Is it possible for them to access my phone when it cannot connect?

Hmm, still no luck at all. Yeah, dial *228 first and does it dial out at all, or do you get any recorded msg. or nothing happened at all? Make a note of it - then, call VZW from another line (800) 922-0204, Monday-Sunday 6am-11pm - you want to reach smartphone / tech support - tell them you have the HTC DI2 and you are a customer. They will verify your personal info and then proceed to the next steps - and, try to find a way to communicate and/or re-establish communication with your device OTA. Make sure your device is at least 75% charged and at a good 3G signal area, and it's helpful to let them know that other VZW devices at the same physical location have coverage & working signal.
Let's see them go about resetting the system, etc. ...
All of a sudden today I cannot send SMS.
I was on a really old build of Cyanogenmod12 (April 22nd I believe) as any time I tried to update to newer Nightly builds I lost all Sprint service could not make/receive calls or texts, etc.
I decided I was pretty fed up with CM12 so I decided to go ahead and migrate to AICP. I wiped everything TWICE in recovery, loaded up AICP and it works fine, I get LTE signal, etc. However I cannot SEND SMS, I can RECEIVE SMS I just cannot SEND. I had done some data restores with Titanium and I figured that somehow some way that might be messing with things. So I did another 100% fresh install after wiping everything.... I can send/receive calls, receive SMS but I cannot SEND SMS
I am really at a loss here guys, ANY help would be greatly appreciated

I stayed up all night last night working on this, let me update the thread with what I have done so far.
I was looking at some stockish ROMs and I noticed that there were warnings on some of them stating that you needed to have the Sprint OTA 5.0 update installed prior to flashing, which I actually never got. My phone came out of the box with Kit Kat and I never installed the 5.0 update, I went straight to CM12 5.0 instead. So I had a theory that there might possibly have been some sort of network data profile, etc or something out of that official 5.0 OTA that I never got that was somehow causing me problems. I decided to revert back to complete bone stock.
I wiped everything and flashed the N910PVPU1BOB7 file (MD5 = 7304e42cf0e241553d8db9e3c3eeed81) which was the official Sprint 5.0 OTA. Loaded it up, updated the PRL, Network Data Profile, etc, etc, etc.... everything works (relatively speaking...... TouchWiz sux balls of course). I have LTE signal, I can send/receive calls, I can send/receive SMS... all good.
So at this point I decided to re-wipe and flash AICP, with the emotion Kernel (latest builds on all). Load it up.... same problem as before. I have LTE signal (stronger than on the stock Sprint ROM), I can send/receive calls, I can receive SMS but I still CANNOT SEND SMS
I tried a few things at this point. I tried to manually reset the Sprint network connection on the phone by dialing ##72786#, this did not work, it returned an error "incorrect MIM code". I tried the *#*#4636*#*# that I have seen suggested in multiple places, this also did nothing, it returned an error "incorrect MIM code". I also noticed on the "mobile networks" tab, and this is true for BOTH CM12 and AICP, that it has the setting at "Global" by default and everything works with exception of sending SMS. Now when I click that tab it only has 3 options LTE, 3g, 2g.... for some reason "global" is not an option, neither is CDMA. Whenever I select LTE it automatically drops me from the Sprint network PERMANENTLY until the ROM is re-flashed there is no way to reverse this. I cannot even dial the manual programming codes "*#* etc" as it just simply says "no network service". If I try to automatically connect to the sprint network through the network operators tab it does in fact find Sprint as my provider, however if I click on Sprint to connect it processes for about 2-3 minutes and then simply returns an error of "cannot connect to the network at this time, please try again later". Again the only way to reverse this is to re-wipe and re-flash again which puts it into the unselectable "global" network setting by default where then I will have LTE signal, I can send/receive calls, and can receive SMS but not send SMS.
So that is where I am at, I stayed up all night last night wiping, flashing, and testing different things over and over. Nothing seems to work 100%, except the stock 5.0.1 OTA which is what I am on now. I really hate TouchWiz and for some reason I get a much weaker LTE signal on stock compared to either CM12 or AICP (I have no clue why this is). I am really at a loss here why everything works on the custom ROMs except for sending SMS..... willing to try almost anything to go back to a custom ROM.
Let me know if you guys have any other ideas.
Well great news I have finally resolved the SMS send issue

pbedard had tried to help me with the above post (which I appreciate, thank you), and I have seen the same advice in other threads. One slight problem though, he slightly mistyped the manual programming code it is actually *#*#4636#*#* not *#*#4636*#*# which I had tried entering ohhhhh I dont know 30 times? :silly: And it always returned an "invalid MMI code".
I had tried everything and after spending a full day on TouchWiz I was determined to fix the issue so I could go back to a custom ROM. I was even manually creating and deleting APNs, etc. Nothing would work. Right as I was about to finally give up (after literally 12hrs of researching the issue and testing fixes) I was reading the official CM 12 thread and came across the "fixes" post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57613217&postcount=3
Because I had tried entering the manual programming code so many times I happened to notice that the last 4 key strokes were not what I had been entering. I entered the correct programming code, boom the Phone Info menu pops right up I follow the directions and what do you know send SMS finally works .... wow what a relief, I am on the latest AICP release on the emotion Kernel and everything works like a charm.
Also by setting the phone to LTE/CDMA through the manual programming menu I have the strongest LTE signal by far, full 100% bars at all times (I live right next to a Sprint tower). I have never understood why I only got 1-2 bars on the stock ROM and 3-4bars on CM12/AICP through the default settings. Anyway thanks for help and I will list out exactly what I did to get it working.
- 100% Stock ROM
- CF Auto Root and TWRP install through Odin
- Reboot to recovery
- Wipe Dalvik cache, system , data, and cache
- Reboot to recovery
- Flash emotion kernel (optional)
- Flash latest AICP build (or custom ROM of your choice)
- Flash latest stock Gapps
- Reboot system
- Confirm Google Messenger is the default SMS app (it will already be if you flashed 5.1 stock Gapps)
- Dial *#*#4636#*#* ("Testing" menu screen will pop up, select "Phone Information")
- Scroll down to "Set preferred network type" click it and scroll up and set it to "CDMA auto (PRL)"
- Wait until 3G signal comes online (takes about 10 seconds)
- Change "preferred network type" to " LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)"
- It should take another 10 seconds for LTE signal to come online and you should be good to go to send and receive SMS ! :good:
