I have the tomtom working great on my 6800, but I was hoping it have a few more features. I'm looking for something to track my trip with waypoints so I can download or view them later. Something I could add POI's to while out on the bike. A friend used to have a small garmin handheld unit we would take when trail riding that would make a waypoint say every 50-100yds, then we could print out the trail later when we got home. Anything along those lines for the WM5 side?
Thanks
GPS Tuner.

Will also work with my Google Maps API app GP Geoforum (Demo), which lets you host a collaborative map on your website.
One day I would like to add a mobile phone interface with GPS tracing, current position and "Add here" quick location adding, but I am too busy to develop at the moment, maybe during the winter. It's all open source tho, so if anyone wants to join the project and add it, just yell...
The GPS Tuner listed above does everything I was looking for and it doesn't use alot of memory and it runs fast. Thanks for that link.
The only think I would like to change about GPSTuner is the map pictures. It's not the end of the world, and you can add map shots from google maps.
I am wanting the same kind of program but I will be using it for fishing locations. I fish all over the west coast and I want to be able to make waypoints of good spots and be able to see them on a map that I can zoom in and out. How hard is it to make maps for GPS Tuner? I like the program but the map that is on it is horrible! Google maps or live search would be perfect if they allowed you to mark a waypoint right on the screen and save it.
Try this
free.3dtracking.net/
but it needs a data connection (gprs/edge/3g)
How about TrackMe 1.1.0.10* GPS Tracking tool with Google Earth from one of our own developers.
Hello
Can you have me that how to download Maps for GPS tunner ?
i have google maps... i like it, does the job but i know theres gotta be better?
i tried nav4all and cant stand it really.. its ehh
amAze isnt bad, its funny it dont show gas stations or anything but it shows all the mom/pops type places you'd never think would show up, thats only thing i like bout it
and live search, it doesnt show certain **** right on the map but its got gas prices, restaurants, movies, etc i can search through and route so thats beautiful
but any others im missing?? i wanna try all the ones considered good or better and see what im feelin the best
I think you pretty much covered everything here. I use google maps and live search and they are pretty good. never tried amaze or nav4all but I've heard of them.
IMO, a combination of google maps and live search is the best you are going to find for free.
Although you may want to try out GPSToday. I havent used that in quite some time, but i enjoyed always having my exact location on my today screen. (before we had TF2D)
What about GPS that costs money?
I've recently been tryin Garmin Mobile XT.. not bad, it's sort of like Live Search to me, the only upside I've found so far is I like the map layout..
I did run into the problem of not being able to route my ****..
I think because the maps I downloaded for it weren't complete or somethin? It has all streets w/ names, it follows me on them directly, but if I set a route it will do a straight line to the place instead of taking streets
No biggie though I still have amAze, Live Search, and Google Maps..
I wanna try TomTom, is it worth it?
Or is there a clear cut "best" when it comes to paid for GPS software??
My girl and I both have vogue's, and I installed tomtom6 on hers, she likes the different funny voices available. I installed igo 8 on mine, I thought that the 3D was done a whole lot better. Tom Tom6 ran fine on hers always, I couldn't get igo8 to launch without having at least 70% memory free.
For me to use igo I would have to soft reset and make sure that was the only program running.
My verdict is TT6 is reliable but boring, gets the job done always and starts with no issues. Tons of free POI stuff out there.
iGo8 looks way better, but is pushing the vogue to the limit in terms of processing.
Both get you where you need to go easy-
Working on getting TT7 now-

Have you looked at GPSToday? Give it a shot. Some recently added features(which doesnt cut even half of it):
Driving/Walking directions in many countries, with traffic-optimization option.
Log file plotting on map and animated "playback". Also, the geologger will now never clip corners, and will perfectly follow loopy highway ramps. You can now also upload your log-files to the desktop website from within the app and export to GPX format.
Location Tracking and sharing (GeoLocation). Track your location history online for your own private use, or share with friends/family. The power-saving ability of GPSToday means you can leave it on indefinitely without worrying about the battery.
Easily and privately (or publicly) share points-of-interest, pictures, messages with like-minded folks (GeoGroups). eg. Track or update swine-flu locations, right from your phone. The possibilities are endless.
'Slideshow' through all your address-book contacts on the map, or through driving directions, or local search results, or all friends' mobile locations
Satellite,Hybrid map views, and many more enhancements for ease of use.
Nearly worldwide support for many features that were previously US only.
Update your twitter status manually from within the app. Just send a message to username 'twitter' via the Inbox in GPSToday.

I found this on de.engadget.com:

This is ****ing awesome, isn't it? Is there anybody being able to write sth. like this for WinMo?
this proggie makes use of the compass, which is not on blackstone
therefore i guess the answer is no
Okay, but where's the problem with compass-function when having GPS?
gps uses actual movement in order to understand your direction, while with the compass it simply knows it, because, heck, it's a compass so getting such a program on a hd would mean relying on a gps which has a less accurate understanding of directions, which in the end would result in a crappy program working quite bad compared to this one
I didnt find it that great - the text kept jumping around and the person was still only moving it slowly. I think ill stick to google maps or a gps app for the time being.
Also, you forgot the delay of the showing video VS realtime(about 3 seconds!!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2uH-jrsSxs&feature=related look at the children running..
imagine if you use it while driving...you''ll have to look at your rear view mirror to understand what the Iphone is showing
Yeah, okay, I understand your arguments! GPS does know the position but not the direction - this is quite clear... Moreover, GPS apps as TOMTOM are really great running on the HD!

Have a look at my thread "Augmented Reality Games / Apps" for a collection of Apps/Games like this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493333
I will update it soon.
I couldn't find a thread where anyone has mentioned this so I thought I'd mention this app. It's ArcGIS from ESRI and it is in the Marketplace (FREE!). It might be getting overlooked because people think they need to know GIS to use it which is not the case. Within the program there are dozens of base maps to choose from including a world road map. It doesn't have turn by turn directions but it does allow you to center your location and have the map scroll under you while driving. The world map has fairly good detail. Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised at all the information you will have access to with the various base maps.
I don't have any affiliation with the developer except I am a user of their desktop software.
Interesting, will show this to my girlfriend. She uses the desktop software for school, might have interesting integration capabilities.
Just for anyone who reads this, there is now a Turn-By-Turn navigation app which uses this API.
The thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959087
I loaded the A to B navigation yesterday and it's got to be one of the top 5 free apps out there.
One thing I like about the Arcmap app I originally posted about is the ability to have useful maps saved in the favorites folder and switch between them within the program. It can go from a road map to a weather map and back again with just a few button pushes.
that's really amazing
just curious if it would have an integration problem with a laptop?
Just found this on the marketplace and I have to say... pretty awesome. This is what WP7 was missing. Although its clearly in the beta stage it is pretty good for a V 1.0.
A-to-B is a Turn-by-Turn application built to demonstrate some of the capabilities of the ArcGIS API for Windows Phone. Warning: The application is meant for demonstration purposes only! Do not rely solely on the suggested routes or instructions given by this application. Features: - Turn-by-turn routing. Sound notification when a turn is coming up. - Add often used destinations as favorites. - List of recent destinations. - "3D view" when in navigation mode with easy accessible "zoom in/out" buttons. - 2D Map for browsing the map supporting pinching, panning etc, and pick new destination by touch'n'hold on the map. - Easy accessible "Recalculate" button if you go off the route and need a new route from your current location (because of service restrictions, the app is not allowed to do this automatically). - Routes all over US (support for Europe coming in a future version). - Worldwide map (detail may vary).
You can read more about and get the marketplace download link here
Nice find I'll have to check it out.
And so I just did. I've been playing with this for an hour not bad, not bad at all I'm going to have it set up in the car on the way into work. I'll post how it does on the highway. But it gave the correct route that I take. But I want to see how it does when I'm actually driving.
Morton you made one very nice app wit a few minor tweeks this thing will rock well done dir well worth the effort
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Sorry about typos walking and texting-bad

Here's hoping for a UK map!
finally...very good
awesome find I can almost retire my Tilt2
Keep it coming guys, honestly I don't research the app market because I can get all reviews and such here at XDA
This indeed looks fantastic. One question though:
Which map is it actually using? This one has the outlines of every single house or building in my neighborhood and it is VERY accurate. I really like it.
Will it support pinch to zoom?
Partial support in the UK
Hi all
I have installed this on my phone in the UK as a trial. It works and in map mode I reasonable moving 3D map like any normal Sat-Nav. There is no car/arrow on the road to indicate precisely where I am, but the basic mechanics. It can't find any addresses in the UK so I guess that's not yet supported on the server side, but this application clearly has huge potential.
I think whoever gets there first with a fully functioning turn-by-turn sat nav in the marketplace is clearly on to a massive winner.
Cheers

On US 95 in MA I, had an arrow up showing my car. it had all the off ramps and had my destination pegged down perfect. Also there is a speed indicator I was doing 70 mph, it had me doing 71 I can handle that. Like said before, it could use a few tweaks here and there. But overall this Nav app is darn good.
It was pretty nice and accurate getting me to work this morning, but it couldn't figure out my home address. Kept on sending me to weird parts of town.

Maybe this sounds stupid, but how do you know you were doing 70mph? Using your car's speedometer? In which case, have you had it manually recalibrated? Usually a car's speedometer is not accurate (though it normally shows that you're going faster than you actually are).
I'm going to download this now, though I'd be interested in maps of UK and Australia, so I'm not sure how useful it will be to me yet.
Casey
Please release this for the UK - awesome stuff!!!!!

Yes using my cars speedometer, and no I have not had it calibrated.
Hi all, it really looks amazing.. Is there any way I can see how it works when i am in Europe? I just want to see something like preview - e. g. select two destinations in USA and than see how it goes. Thanks
Fact of the day! - Generally, Sat-Nav's register a more accurate Speed than the average Car's Speedometer. Speedometer's are configured at manufacturing to register a faster speed than what the car is actually going, this is to compensate for Tyre wear and other wear-and-tear happenings that all cars suffer from over time.
What I have noticed about this so far as that if I'm zoomed in relatively close.. not SUPER close mind you, but maybe 2 or 3 zoom levels back from the closest zoom, that it doesnt actually register the map, says map data not yet available... shows the route the of the road... the path but not the surround streets, weird. This only happens in certain area's of the city I live in too, not all over. Its like the map data just isnt there which I find odd. Its not like its loading a satelite photo so I dont know why it would do this. I tried xmaps from the marketplace the other day and it didnt have this problem. Id understand if it was a satelite image as you cant zoom in close to those sometimes, I used to have that issue in google maps where you would zoom in and it would just say you were too close.
Otherwise I LOVE this thing and am so happy I found it in the market the other day. Just an awesome APP

I noticed the Arrow is there, but hidden by the info at the bottom of the screen. Hopefully, an adjustment will fix that.
Also, Morten Nielsen's other App 'GuidePost' is pretty cool too!
Finally! Free TbT voice nav on WP7!
Guys, WP7 looks to become the leader of smartphones. The system is the best there is and now the features are appearing...albeit slowly.
