[APP] MangaMeeya comic book reader - Touch HD Themes and Apps

In a discussion about ComicReader Mobile somebody mentioned MangaMeeya as the best comic book reader.
I found a version that supports VGA/WVGA
http://www.geocities.jp/comicview7/meeya/mangameeyace_24beta_wm2003_vga.zip
But it is in japanese I think
I also found an english translated version:
http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=9502&start=1
But it is QVGA and has a pixel doubling effect.
At least I can use the VGA one by learning all the menus on the english one.
I wish I could have an English VGA...
Anyway it is really really quick to open images and in any kind of archives and has tons of options.
Completely worth a try, on our big screens Comics are starting to be useable.

CHM reader on dash?

I bought a MicroOLAP CHM eBook Reader a while back to use on ppc. It's fantastic. However they don't have a version for smartphone. Is there a good chm reader available for dash? The only thing I found is this one: http://www.smartphone.net/software_detail.asp?id=1663
But it hasn't been updated for long time. And the author didn't reply my inquiry.
I'm afraid I can't recommend any program for ebooks I was curious as to what a .chm file was so I popped it into wiki and came across this:
"In 2002, Microsoft announced some security risks associated with the .CHM format, as well as some security bulletins and patches.[1] They have since announced their intentions not to develop the .CHM format further, and will be moving to a new generation of Windows Help called Microsoft Assistance Markup Language in the Windows Vista operating system."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Compiled_HTML_Help
Could be why it has not been updated in a long time.
thanks for the reply. Too bad that MS gives up on chm, even their latest Visual Studio 2008 is still using the format for help files....
That's the biggest problem with eBooks in general. Each manufacturer creates its own, proprietary format to store the book data. This usually comes with some form of DRM so that only that company's supported readers can view the content. Software writers can't easily make reader software without being given the nod from that company.
Until there is a truly open format for eBooks, the market isn't really going to take off and there won't be readily available readers for them ubiquitous among device platforms.
on a side note, I googled 'convert .chm smartphone', and came up with a few hits... especially http://forum.isilo.com/showthread.php?p=10968 (converts CHM to PDB = Isilo)
and iSilo is yet another proprietary format that you have to find a player that works (and they're all ugly) and pay for it.
I just found Alreader 2.5 can display chm files. It's not as good as dedicated chm reader like MicroOLAP CHM eBook Reader, but at least now I can read it.
I used Alreader 2.5 to read html files. It's a nice surprise that it can handle chm too!
As for book format, personally I think they should just publish in html. Most likely no other ebook formats can be as popular as html.
Plain text, rich text, and xml are also up there.

New User, help please!!

Hello everyone
I'm a new HTC Touch HD user ( I bought it yesterday), I have been a palm user for almost 8 years!, and finally I took the step and change to windows mobile!!, principally because I need to work a lot with word, excel and emails on the go, and not always I can bring my laptop with me.
I have been reading diferent stuff about WM for around 10 hours, and it's quite diferent than the experience with palm OS, I think with Palm OS was much more easy to choose a software for each job!!
well I would like some help please:
1.- I need a good email software, which support many accounts and foulders to organice my emails just like outlook, I'm thinking in "seven" http://community.seven.com/viewforum.php?f=17
or just outlook mobile, but I would like to heard some oppinions before buy this last one.
2.- a good PDF reader, I need to read a lot of datasheets, and I need a software which can word wrap and be finger friendly. adobe reader LE coudn't do it, eather ubook, or maybe I'm doing something wrong? any idea about it?
3.- for GPS I'm thinking in buying IGO 8.3, it's a good choise?
4.- a good agenda software, and I think I will buy Pocket Informant, any coment?
well this is the most important thing for the moment, apart of this and only like a comment, I'm looking for a good clock with alarms, a good english and chinese dictionary, music player, movie player, picture view software, etc.
any help or comment will be apreciated
iGO8 its ,imho ,the best option. I have tryed TomTom but iGO beats it for far..

Hi stranger!!!
Hi! i-m trying to bring my experience to this panel... i-m not an expert but have know both worlds, Palm and PPC devices... i-m own today a Samsung I900 Omnia runing under WM 6.1...
in my experience here you are some tips about your questions....
1) Outlook Mobile provided is good enough... it can manage messaging (SMS) and mailing (i have 4 emmails including hotmail, gmail, yahoo and a propietary one) without any problem... is something spartan if you understand but give you a peace of mind to search and found something more sophidsticated... may be u can try Fleximail...
2) My Omnia had a PDF reader File Wiewer that's good enough... i-m not shure is a standard in WM 6... try Pocket Adobe or Mobile Foxit intead....
3) GPS depends where are you use it!!! because of maps IGO is a good one if you use it in Usa or EUROPE... i-m in Argentina, South America, here Garmin XT rules because detailed maps that it works...
4) I have Pocket Informant and it's superb!!! another good one is Iambic Agendus Pro... i-m not shure rank of prices... both are excellent....
+ clock with alarms: SPB TIME or Ptravel Alarm
+english and chinese dictionary: True Term
+music player: sorry i like WMedia...
+movie player: again WM
picture view software: Pocket XNView or Resco
all topics are just an opinion, hopefully that give you some easy guideline and my english isn't zulu 4 u (MY TONGUE IS SPANISH) c u HERE OR @ WEB...
hugs from Argentina
Jorge
thanks tossero
I think I will check the maps of IGO and if they have good ones for Asia I will buy it
thanks jorgec333
mm, thanks for your advices, I didn't know Fleximail, I will check, about the agenda, yes I used to use agendus, its really good, but I didn't know was good for WM too.
BTW touch HDD came with adobe reader LE, which is really bad in my opinion, I will check the ones you recommended me!!

Is there an ebook reader like this for Windows Mobile? If not, who want's to exchange his iPhone for my HTC Touch HD? I hate it, that the motherf***ing iPhone get's all nice apps i am waiting for. I like ebook reading on mobile devices (our HD has such a huge screen), but without dpad it's no fun (eg on mobireader, which is very powerfull on other devices).
Can anyone code this for WiMo? That would be perfect
I like reading books... not getting thumbswipe RSI !!
That's why I use ALreader,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1464812&postcount=2
BTW
Is it just me? or does that kid need a slap?
ubook reader
The best for me: ubook reader many skin, many languages
http://www.gowerpoint.com/uBook_main.html
thnx guys, a tried both of them but i dont like the interface. especially µBook is really strange and for 15 Bucks???? Not really intuitive for devices without dpad. Anyone else an idea?
perhaps amazon decides to release this kindle reader also for WiMo.
I use mobipocket which I first had on my Iliad ebook.
http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/application.asp?device=WindowsMobile
It works fine on HD but I'm really waiting for PlasticLogic to launch at year-end.
Meanwhile, mobipocket is free but the books cost.
I also have AEB+ to map the volume buttons to up/down.
I believe this is what MobiPocket reader has done for years. Please give it a try and compare, if you need to touch on the screen to turn page, there is a function for that as well.
Oh, you can also create a prc file of your word document and read on ur device.
Cheers
The problem with mobi-reader and alreader tho is no support for .lit. i have a ton of lit files already. and yes theres converters but most make it look like rubish when they convert. and converting is a hassle. i want a good reader that support LIT and prc and mobi and additionally pdb would be nice.

will there be an app for Windows Mobile also or do you mean a real (hardware) Ebookreader? On the homepage i only see an ebookreader (wich looks really promising though).

Mobipocket is a very nice ebook reader (i use it on my HD), BUT only for devices with dpad. The UI isn't very fingerfriendly (look at the videos at the first post, this is what i call fingerfriendly). It's a pity that most of developers have the iphone in focus, not windows mobile devices. Probably the HD is my last Windows Mobile device if this doesn't change.

I think mobipocket works fine on the Touch HD, even though there is no DPAD. You just need to configure the program a bit.
My preferences (for reading books, which are mostly text and have little to no graphics) usually include changing the background to black and text to white (the white background hurts my eyes after a while).
Change the margins to very small.
Disable the popup menu when highlighting text.
That way you can easy browse through the book just by tapping the left or right sides of the screen.
Mobipocket on your PC will easily convert most formats. It doesn't covert .lit files, but you can use clit to break a lit file apart and just send the rtf portion over.

Think I've just spotted Windows Mobile 7 (in beta form)

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNjgwODg0ODA=.html
Is this new or am I late to the party?
I've not seen this before...
Has anyone else seen this
Could be fake but looks real to me..
Your thoughts?
This video is kinda hard to watch, takes about an hour to buffer from China or wherever it's posted!
I waited till it buffered than watched the whole thing.
It's reminiscent of Androids home screen but definitely different...
Interesting anyhow
yea it also sorta reminds me of the Touch Wiz OS found on the Omnia family and the samsung eternity and such. with the ability to drag various widgets onto the homescreen. it's really hard to see tho
You guys need to read. That's Windows Mobile 6.1. It's just a custom skin that he's using to emulate some of what 7 will look like. There are a bunch of inconsistencies with the design. He's actually using SPB Mobile Shell with this skin:
http://img255.imageshack.us/i/presentation17c270a9hl7.jpg/
Yeah, don't you guys read Chinese? Jeeeezz!
Sorry I don't read Chinese - Although I could have copied the url and had Google translate the page so fair enough I guess - LOL!
And the gui somewhat matched a recent Microsoft Vid that featured a Xperia and TP1 running some variant of WM7.
When I find the url to that I will post it.

This is just a book downloader. It uses Office Mobile or other custom reader to show the books. The downloaded books are .txt at base.

I will try. My device is VGA and the emulator doesn't work on Windows 7. I will try to think of a way.
Good work so far. Can anyone suggest a nice fingerfriendly reader to open the .ebk files? Pocket word does not finger scroll, which makes reading that way a bit tedious.
can i rename the file type and use it in adobe pdf or something?
Good news
Good news people:
1.This is out of beta.
2.The people at wattpad.com want to help with this app.

Hello People
I am thinking about scrapping this. I am getting little to no feedback for this app and i really don't know if this is compatible with other devices except my own (an HTC Diamond ).
Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks,
Alex
gonna try it now - there is a strong need for a prog like this - if you could skin it to match tf3d then you'd have a real winner + kinetic scroll! - what about the file compatibility options?
I wouldn't mind testing this and providing feedback. However, I don't have a vga device. I own a HTC TyTN II.
I have Xperia X1 I'll try this app out.... already using quite a cool app called Vade Mecum to read .pdb files. Got a desktop app that turns web pages into .pdb - useful for project gutenburg and so on. As you can see there's been no work on that for a few years now.
The Xperia is WVGA of course, so we'll see how it goes.
Just mentioning some of the features Vade Mecum has that I like: assign quadrants of the screen to pull down menu, page up, page down etc. Like invisible buttons.
That's kind of it really I guess lol.
Can I run it on QVGA device?
QVGA plz...
just for your interest...
i tested it on a blackstone with energyrom wm6.5 and installed it on device.
the first page where you listed the books doesn't load fullscreen, but the settings window works just fine. I don't know how to make a screenshot so if you pm me how to do that I will send you the screen.
I can change language but the icon says "gr" when I select "Dutch".
How can I go to " online mode" ? My data connection is online but i still get the message "can't search, offline modus"..
