I may just be imagining things but it looks like the specifications been changed on the HTC site with upped battery time and few other bits.
I'm sure for one thing it used to say on the HTC specs itself under special features it had FM-radio and said accelarometer not g-sensor but if that's what they sacrificed to get better battery or it's just been omitted who knows.
Still if they have looks mostly cosmetic.
What's the difference between G-sensor and Accelerometer?
I thought it was the same thing... Potato - Tomato
And as far as I can see they updated the specs on the europe home (choose country), but not on german (deutschland), Danmark or Norge (Norway). These were the only ones I checked.
They upped the batterylife and removed FM-radio from specs.

Finally someone noticed the deliberate misspelling.
Usually people read it like potato - potato
lol... I first heard the "Potato tomato" watching the commentaries of Mallrats where Jason Mewes drops the line. Great movie BTW!!
Funny!
Dutch HTC site
http://www.htc.com/nl/product/touchpro2/specification.html
On the dutch HTC site it still says :
Speciale Functies FM Radio, G-Sensor
But it also says:
NB: Specificaties kunnen zonder nadere aankondiging gewijzigd worden
*Specifications can be changed without any warnings*
And it also still has the shorter battery times
Can you confirm the FM radio availability on the TP2 Europe version???
Oh NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... it certainly has changed. I remember reading FM Radio as well a while back. I hope this is a mistake.

It's supid from HTC!!! If no FM radio, maybe no TP2 for me! I wait for the perfect smartphone...
In this review, the FM radio seems not present:
http://translate.google.com/transla...-touch-pro2.shtml&sl=ru&tl=en&history_state0=
Sorry wrong forum
Oh well... It seems like it has been confirmed... NO RADIO...
"Additional features
In the HTC Touch Pro 2 has a TV-Out feature to output the images to your TV, cable will have to use dokupat separately, it is not included in standard delivery. FM-radio in the office no."
If the translation was done correctly it has fm-radio. If you go to htc site and choose another country, e.g. spain you have the fm-radio listed.
It makes no sense on not having it but at the end:
"the worse camera, """"no radio"""""""", but there are special features that distinguish the unit simultaneously with other Touch-communicators, in the first place is Straight Talk."
Also on the review the screen shot of the device show bluetooth 2.1+edr and they wrote bluetooth 2.0 + edr ....
EDIT:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOkZlsS_lFo&feature=fvst
MIN 4.07 - FM RADIO is listed so it has fm-radio !!
So you reckon the translation is wrong? Ha ha ha... I read the page and it really didn't make much sense but I wouldn't of thought they can't even make a simple translation like 'no radio' correct. I hope you are correct mate!
another "prof" of radio built-in !!
The specs without the FM-Radio is new... maybe some language versions have not changed the specs...
Or maybe the quality of the radio is too bad and HTC decides remove the radio SW from the official roms
On Feb 27 of this year, this page listed the FM radio as one of the special features. It is gone from this page now, so something officially - and intentionally - was changed from the phone.
Kinda makes sense really. They are promoting it as a business phone, not a multimedia phone per se (though at the same time they are, like all good PR departments, trying to sell it as the most number of things to the most number of people possible). FM radio is really out of place on a business phone.
In return, they've upped the batter life from 270 to 390 hours for WCDMA and from 419 to 500 for GSM. Standby time has also increased 250 hours for WCDMA and 150 hours for GSM. Video call time increased 10 minutes
Otherwise there is no appreciable difference between the specs from then and now.
Personally I think it's a fair tradeoff, but I personally could not see myself making much use of FM radio when I can put 150 hours of my own music on a storage card, as well as a movie or two.

Without radio, this phone is not totally that I want!
To finish, it's not really a business phone because the calendar tab of the new TF3D seems too light for business (But it's better than the standard TF3D)

Somewhere HTC undoubtedly has a marketing report that business users as a group value battery life over FM radio (it's entirely possible it says the same thing about personal users too).
It may not be totally what you want, but it is what the majority of people in their target market want, I'm guessing.

Gaining ~200 hours by discarding the radio seems like a reasonable tradeoff for a business phone. The large screen is a much bigger plus than an FM radio.

I agree with victoradjei - you seem to mention an awful lot of advantages of the Artemis before throwing them all away due to lack of 3G! Anyway, for someone who doesn't video call or can't afford a pricey data plan, it is a spectacular device. Different strokes for different folks, as they say. (By the way, using SPB Full Screen Keyboard cancels out the problem of no sliding QWERTY on the Artemis.)
Let's keep this forum clear of random bashing of people's devices and use it to help each other get the most out of the HTC device we have chosen for our own reasons.

Who said it was bashing, I just find it extraordinary that a manufacturer can build devices and leave out functionallity and technology. There are so many feature rich devices from HTC yet they cannot seam to pull one together that has all!!! The O2 Device looks good, it seems to have the right features but why no keyboard and no 3G, I have an SE phone that has 3G for god sake.. I have a data card from VF that gives me 1.8Mbs so a manufacturer brings out a neat little device that doesnt have a keyboard and no 3G, TBH its on par with the earlier HP devices that had phone capabiltiy but its in a smaller case and has a build in GPS...
P.S. I'm contemplating having one as my second toy...
P.P.S, this is more HTC bashing than the decive itself....

OK just to let you know if you're comming from a tilt you DIDN'T have infrared or flash to begin with so they won't really be missed. I also want to point out that they are not needed. Tilt and Touch Pro are marketed as Business phones where you want to focus on texting and connection rather than "flashy" things like Pictures. that's why the Diamond 2 (the consumer version) has a much better camera.
Also, wtf is with "Besides the Bigger Screen, Dual Speakers, Dual Microphones and...None of them are reason for upgrade"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Screen size is a major reason in upgrading. Like you said most of it's new M3D features will most likely be ported later but you can't port a screen's size and resolution also Dual speakers?? I don't even use my phone like a phone anymore I either have it on speaker or BT how can you say that doesn't matter. The Dual Mic. thing will only be cool if it works. Anyway that was my rant for the day....
I don't get all the negative vibes in the Rhodium forum?
So I have the device. Sitting right in front me at this moment. I also have the Touch Pro. I'd definately pick the Rhodium, you just have to see the screen to understand. It looks like it could eat an iPhone for breakfast. The back lighting under the keys is just wicked cool... all the keys are translucent on the sides but not on the top and the white led's light up the whole thing. Its fantastic.
I'll attach a panaromic shot I did of my very dim light kitchen. It came out incrediably.
Ahhh! Whatt? Think again, Think twice.

Just to appoint that they eliminated or "EXCLUDED" the IR from the tilt, REMEMBER 8525 HAD IT, then TILT did not, so there you have REMOVED.
Now in your favor it is OBVIOUS that the dual mic/speaker, screen etc. and everything they improved or redesigned is amazing.
NOW for the part of the FLASH and Infrared NOT BEING a business tool..... YOU ARE WROOOONG.
And I'll explain why; let's just say I was waiting for a shipment of CONTAINER with merchandise and most of it arrived damaged, A CAMERA IS NEEDED.
let's just say you are in a meeting low level light in the place and someone came with the idea of taking some pictures, you don't want to look like an idiot struggling with the stupid phone trying over and over to get the best shot, DON"T YOU THINK YOU NEED A FLASH? I'll answer that for you a MAAAAAAJOR YES.
JUST READ WHAT I posted again, and while you read, pay more attention to the essence, and if for some reason, I ate up words just because I'm a busy business man, and do not have time to eleborate, just focus, so you can get it right.
AND I WON'T continue giving examples of business situations where you would kill for a phone with a flash, or with IR because I won't be able to finish. OBviously your experience in BUSINESS is SHORT, by the look of your comments. YOU SOUND like a very and loved GOOD friend of mine, that his father spoiled all his life, and because of that he dares to say that the Iphone is a business phone too, JAAA!! I'm sorry for him.
Again your points of the upgrades they made are tempting me, and I would love to go through my docs and edit my contracts from that BIG screen, and also while business flight being able to watch a movie. But I just put everything up together in my mind, and still I won't buy a TP2 if they do not release it with a CAMERA FLASH. It's just not enough.
The WORST of ALL is KNOWING they are doing it on PURPOSE and BET YOUR LIFE they will next release a TouchPro 3 with the flash and even with an IR (so you can even use your phone as a remote, AND A BUNCH OF BUSINESS APPLICATIONS)
I think I explained my reasons in my previous post. That by the way I copied paste it everywhere without knowing I was violating the rules of the FORUM, so I'm really sorry, won't happen again.
Just can't stand HTC playing with everyone's heads.
Believe me never flashed a phone but if I have to in order to have my Fuze with the same productivity APPs in TP2, I WILL this TIME.
XDA will help me in the process.

Wow, I have a couple things to say about that.
1. I was raised by a single mother and very NOT spoiled having to also take care of my younger bro. growing up...oh, what's a father??
2. Anyway you are still missing what I'm saying I'm not saying flash and IR are useless I'm saying if you are going from a TILT to a touch pro2 you won’t' miss a feature that you never had. Yes they removed it and it's probably because IR is old tech and flash is still considered consumer. Yes you can go on about how you can use it BUT the fact of the matter is that's what they consider it as. I'm not saying ME but HTC decided that. And the evidence is in their phones.
Next time you want to slam my knowledge of business actually read what I said (even though you said you read it twice) not once did I say that "People don't need this" or "People don't need that" I said "marketed" HTC has a way they market their phones whether you like it or not, it's just how they work. Also don't ever mention an Iphone to me. I hate apple with a passion
Guys Take It Easy
I hear both sides of the argument and I must say that both you guys make valid points.
As a user of a Tilt, I must say I hate the fact that it does not have flash. The example of the damaged goods is a usual for me. And when it comes down to the business sense. I consider myself productive when I can take the pictures on my phone, directly e-mail it to the people responsible then wait 5 minutes, call and make noise right on site. But thats just me.
I love all the new features of the TP2. Trust me, from the big screen to the dual mic to the dual speakers, the M3D interface, and the illuminated keyboard. Whereas I'll continue to miss the flash, I'mma jump on this thing first chance I get. In terms of the IR, I mean this is aging technology. BT is taking over and it is equipped on this phone so I see no reason why they should not have removed it.
I don't know why HTC adds or removes certain things. I guess that its because they have a range of phones for different purposes and targeting different audiences. Hopefully one day will come when we can custom build our phone. Until that time, I think HTC is on track to making better built phones everytime.

from what I understand all the different radios like, wifi, BT, IR, 3g, etc...take up physical space in the phone and you can only make the phone so big. I'm sure HTC has a priority system on what they should have on the phone and it probably goes something like 3G, BT, Wifi, then IR and I think they only put IR if they possibly can and I'm sure a led light is lower than that. but I would like to see IR and a flash there are some pretty cool things that can be dones especially with an IR port.

The lamest of them all
Ok so I will add my 2 cents, I had the Tilt and when I found out about the Touch HD, i couldnt wait to get my hands on it. I did, i like it and i have it but miss my keyboard dearly. The touch keypad is nice but its not like having physical keys.
I have had my touch HD for about 3 months and plan on putting it up on Ebay, keeping my Tilt and selling it on Ebay once the Touch Pro 2 comes out and getting it. I know the processor is smaller which is ALMOST a deal breaker, i dont have a flash on my camera now and dont really care but going down to a 3.15 meg cam from a 5 kinda sucks too but whatever. I like a keypad, "Gimme da keeeeys ill drive!!!"
Also how much slow down do you think i can expect coming from the 7201 processor to the 7200? Doenst seem like it would be much of a difference. Not a deal breaker thats for sure. The camera issue sucks but whatever im not big on pics really. Can someone tell me the diff between WAP 2.0/xHTML, and just HTML? Deal breaker? I know the HD is a much better phone but i really miss typing with keys

WAP is the mobile view of internet and HTML is the standard (barely) for internet for PC. However that shouldn't matter to you since we have Opera Mobile and that runs most everything pretty well.

Grrr, I wish it had an 800Mhz Snapdragon Processor, or even one that isn't Qualcomm . . .
just giving my own opinion here
first of all i own the touch pro..
honestly i couldnt care less that the TP2 has no flash. Looking at the TP1 it has a crappy flash to begin with..wanna take a pic at night?i suggest you start praying they COULD put a better flash on it but i dont see the use for it..HTC Phones are not known for their camera quality anyway...
As about the TP2 being worth it..PERSONALLY i say hell yes..I find the bigger screen a HUGE benefit as compared to the TP1..Thats along with other small benefits of course..I use TF3D2 on my touch pro now andits great..but it surely is a different feeling when you use it on a bigger screen
too bad my contract will last an extra year so i cant make the jump now

Somwhere I have seen that Sprint would release the TP2 as Worldphone. Means with CDMA and GSM radios. Somebody out there who can give thoughts on this? Oh, got it http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1792 .
Hi folks,
hmmm don´t know what to do,,,
I can get a Rhodium in a week from a guy that´s working (VIP) for a brand here in sweden, but it´s sim-locked to "3". The Topaz is coming in a month out in Sweden ( http://www.expansys.se/p.aspx?i=179083 ). Rhodium in 3-4 month´s. The guys that can sim-unlock use a method with the code when you put another sim-card, but "3" in Sweden have another system, when you put sim-card from another operator it says SIM CARD FAILURE.
hmmm I realy don´t want to use "3" as my operator.
But on the other hand can´t realy wait to have it in my hands.
after buying a whole bunch of phones.. I say wait.... it's not worth it if you have to hack and hack to make it work, unless you truly enjoy doing it.
Listen to LoopTroop and calm down.

Hi guys
Followed the slightly concerning threads re the radio disappearing from the specs.
It is now back on the specs at Clove and never disappeared from the Expansys ones.
I called HTC UK support yesterday. They said to me that it was all still subject to change (as it would be officially until the shops get it) but their internal current spec still said it had an FM Radio.

If that's what the current internal spec is then I'm pretty dang sure it will have it. That means that it's been designed to have it and removing it would just be removing the chip from the board. The chip is probably pretty dang cheap as it is. Then it would just be wasted space.
Specs don't just disappear from web pages for no reason. The main HTC site still shows the FM radio as not being included, when it used to be there. I'm hoping it will continue to be there, but somebody took it down for a reason, even if it wasn't taken down from all sites.
at this point, if they say it still has it, it likely still does. They have to be manufacturing them in mass by now with it being as close to the release as it is (least outside of the US). T-Mobile/AT&T may have the radio removed tho, it wouldn't surprise me for them to remove features (ie cmos camera). But who knows. Either way, i couldn't care less. I don't listen to the radio as it is. Not to say that others wouldn't want to, but technically, this is a business phone so a radio would seem a bit out of its way.
Personally, i would say, if they included a radio, they should also include a 3.5mm jack to Listen to it on.
That's pretty much my point. At this time, they most decidedly are not saying that it has it, when in February they specifically said on the same page that it was included. I hope it was right then and wrong now, but I have my doubts.
Business or phone phone
I do wish people would stop pandering to this rubbish.
No one buys a highend PDA phone (privately) to use it just as a business / organiser device or just as a fun / media device.
It is fair to say that some people won't mind if a radio or tv-out or gfx acceleration or decent camera or 3.5" jack is missing .... but that isn't a justification for HTC or anyone else not to put these things in on expensive new devices.
Most people I know that have a highend device like the HD or TP2 will probably want at some point to dump some movies to it and play it on an hotel TV when they are away with work because they don't have their Archos or ipod with them. This means that TV-Out and support of embedded gfx hardware should be a given.
Most people would prefer a proper wired headphone jack for wired listening of any description.
Many people find themselves on the train, at an airport or in a break and at some point may like to listen to the news. If you live in the UK or a country where most providers insist on realmedia for streaming, Resco News etc is no good ... you need a decent radio. PDA and phone manufacturers have demonstrated that hardware for this sort of thing is typically on chipset anyway and just needs enabling and exploiting in firmware.
HTC very irritatingly artificially leave these things out which makes the device in complete ... for no good reason other than to force people to either get two devices or feel frustrated from time to time (even if rarely) when they want to use things like the above.
The camera situation is the same. 30fps vga video is common place on SE and Nokia ... Apple and HTC should not be forgiven for not including it (yes ... I know the TD2 and TP2 now have it ... at last) ... also ... yes ... you'd expect if you were planning to take holiday snaps you'd take your Pentax or Canon SLR with you .. but often you want to take adhoc pictures .... why shouldn't they be of decent quality ... the technology is there and in mass production SE and Nokia have shown that it shouldn't raise the cost of the devices.
We shouldn't be so accepting about things like this ... it allows HTC to treat us with some contempt and encourages them to continue to do so.
All these devices they are bringing out ... long after the Snapdragon ... but still no sign of official support ... again ... getting people to buy last generation technology today. Are we forced to ... no ... but given their position in the market ... they still have no viable competition on the WM front ... they are exploiting that.
Sorry for the rant ....
Hope this helps...
Some food for though...
If HTC remove the FM radio, at this late stage (after some devices with it have been released) will they keep the chipset's the same?
If so I'm sure some of the guys on here could get the Drivers for it working again...
If such a project is needed, count me in, I'm missing FM radio from my Kaiser

Yes, I'm sure that this is precisely the reason HTC does these things. Market analysis, purchase trends, customer preferences research - all of these things are meaningless next to the opportunity to make their customers irritated and frustrated.

Define decent quality. I'm not sure what your gripe is here. Lack of a flash? OK, I can see that. But if you are complaining that you're not getting 30 FPS for your ad hoc videos, then HTC is just not the camera for you. Your priorities dictate the purchase of a different device. That's no reason to suggest that HTC is being intentionally annoying. They are making the decisions that will earn the highest sales for any given device in the markets for which they have seen they can effectively compete.

I read HTC somewhere (I forget where) that it will be removed because of battery life performance issues. HTC are still trying to make this a business phone (hence the conference calling and Straight Talk) so it makes sense that a business phone would benefit more from battery life than an FM radio.

I have to ask this again. Why would a radio chip and software waste battery when it's not on? It just doesn't make sense. Please enlighten me!
any news?
it's weird to see the Radio feature still on the official italian specification web page ...but it's not anymore on the english page

It's Possible the FM radio stuff can cause interference with other devices in such a small space, meaning more power is needed to overcome any distortion.
There might even be a form of idle state it keeps itself in. Take the radio feature on the mp3 player next to me, it doesn't scan through like normal unless you force it to retune. It presets itself stations it can find gets RDS for them and names them and keeps track of it when not using the radio feature and more annoying it will do this when the whole device is in it's standby mode and will do so unless fully turned off.
Personally I believe it's just an oversight when they updated the battery spec on the UK HTC page as mass production is likely to have started and removing it last minuet would have likely been costly.

I understand that if it's on standby mode, it may use up battery life. I mean if you leave software running in the background, it will run down your battery as well. So it's understandable.
But if you fully turned it off, it shouldn't kill battery life, cos it's not on, right? So, again, it doesn't make sense for battery life to lower, with or without the radio.
As you said, it could be HTC updating on the battery life spec because they got it wrong the first time round. And they thought the radio is no longer needed on this phone so they take it off as well.
I think this happened to the Samsung Omnia HD (not out till end of June) as well. GSM Arena just took another preview of it and some specs has changed prior to launch. They took the radio out as well.
So anything can happen until everything is set on launch date.
Just thought of a good reason to keep radio for business - GPS traffic data! GPS software use FM radio to receive the traffic data. if no radio, no traffic for GPS software.
Apart from no Radio, I just saw a couple of videos from you tube on TP2 reviews, it looks like the zoon bar is missing too.
I checked HTC's website and their gallery still shows the zoom bar. The videos were uploaded this week as well. So unless they took the video a while back and just uploaded it now, it looks like we are missing more features.
European Version Video Review
Asia CNET Version Video Review
Hope this is my mistake.
I just watched again and on the start of the video, I think I saw a glimpse of the zoom bar but never again afterwards. Maybe it's just so reflective, that I can't see the zoom bar. Maybe it is really me... being too imaginative
european video at 3.36 min, it's there !!!
Ha! You are correct! I saw the glimpse. Super reflective screen makes it hard to see on the video.

which icont is it? i cant easily make out what one is the radio
Well it seems everyone is raving about the phone so maybe I'm just crabby, but I just have to ask, all the same, and maybe to have a bit of balance in the euphoria...
Now I'm a massive HTC fan and have had WM since before the days of the steam engine. When the Rhodium was announced I just knew it was designed for me and I have been dreaming about it ever since. Well now I have one, and I'm sad to say I'm a little bit disappointed. Maybe expectations were too high. But I cant help feel that something is missing in the packaging.
Maybe it's just me but don't you think the scratch-shield is tacky? It started to peel off at the corners half an hour after I put it on. And why wasn't the G-sensor activated for the majority of the applications? And the FM-radio. It's there but without an application to run it on. etc. etc.
Now through the wonder of XDA and all of the expertise that resides here all these things are fixable, but you'd think that on an $800 phone this wouldn't have had to be the case. Kinda thinking that Apple would have done it diffrently... Not that I would ever go to the dark side.
Well, all I can say is that I can't wait to have some of the great chefs that have done such wonderful jobs on Hermes and Kaisers (which are my personal experiences ROM flashing) come over here and start fixing all the little glitches HTC seem to have missed.
Now my question is; is ther a Machiavellian plan behind all this or is it just ineptitude? Or am I being overly crabby???
Just my 2 cents worth/M
If Apple had sold it a damned site more would have been disabled out of the box and they would have drip fed you the goodies to keep you spending!
I'm pretty much sold on the prospect of any new HTC phone evolving over time. It is half the fun! But I agree with your point about the screen protector and radio. The protector was appallingly bad but not as bad as the Brando mirrored one that I bought to replace it!
The radio was preinstalled on my Vodafone branded phone and works well, so for some reason HTC must have disabled it on the ones they didn't send to VF
Don't you just love discovering new hidden functions and features? Like my Dopod D810 without GPS being abled when I first bought it, then Dopod released a ROM update to release it and they kept it when HTC issued the WM6 upgrade, all that after someone else discovered how to hack it.
My TP2 came with FM Radio function fully usable, but I found their software was extremely buggy - how about locking to one radio station forever and it wasn't even the station of choice? (released by deleting a registry and restarting the app) May be that's why they removed it for some regions.
Someone else also posted here that the Voice Recorder is also missing on his TP2, so go figure!

Thanks for the verification on why they didn't include the Radio App in the first firmware. I was wondering about this alot. BTW, is that you in the picture?

Mine did that the first time I ran it but it worked perfectly after that
