Hey peeps!
Question First: Has anyone else found a LED flashlight app that works well on the DHD or Inspire that can dim the LED right down?
I want to use the LED on the back as a reading light so I don't have to drain the battery by using the screen but its simply too bright.
I am running an Inspire 4G on Revo HD 6.3.1. The stock flashlight app works well with the 3 levels avaliable and I don't want to kill the LEDs by over running them.
There are tonnes of flashlight apps out there, some using the led and some not. The ones I have researched either don't have a brightness adjustment on the LED or attempt to burn a hole in a sheet of paper.
The only app that I have found which relates to this is call "Reading Light" and is just an adjustable brightness grey screen.
If this has been discussed before please let me know and i'll request this thread be closed. I couldn't find anything regarding this aspect of the topic.
Regards,
Akida
I don't think this has come up before. Its a good request. I'd be interested in something like this.

Bump for confirmation of possibility please!
Btw .. how often am I allowed to bump? I couldn't find it in the forum rules.
CM 7.1 has a application called Torch which has two light levels. The dim one seems like it would be perfect for reading (it only uses 1 of the 2 flash LEDs). The bright level is insanely bright (much brighter than the Sense flashlight app).
There is an app on the market called Torch, but I don't think its the same one that comes with CM 7.1.

Hey that sounds like its worth a shot. Has anyone extracted the app from CM 7.1? I'm going to ask them for permission anyway.
Thanks for the info.
Hi
I've tried with MX Player and Moboplayer but both will keep soft buttons illuminated when a video is playing in a dark room.
Any way to fix this as the apps settings don't affect it.
The buttons aren't illuminated if the room is bright so it's a One X light sensor issue I think.

afaik there is not a native option/solution to this, however, i used to use a 3rd party app called 'Screen filter' in my Desire in the past. It has this option along with adjustable dim for screen (perfect for watching film in the dark) but "enable/disable soft-keys backlight" option is not functioning with OneX. Hope the developer updates it to let it work with OneX.
For e-reading at night this is also an issue...

I'be been looking for a solution for this as well. FBReader has a setting to turn the buttons off, but it doesn't seem to work on the HOX...

Found a fix! Requires root, works great on my AT&T HOX...
search Play for 'Keyboard backlight controller' or copy/paste: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deskangel.kblight&hl=en
(can't post links cuz I'm a n00b...)
Main concept is keyboard and bln backlight dont turn on to save battery. I have 2 solution both has own limitations.
I use cm10.1, but it should work with others. This is my first android mod, be sure you backup .
1st solution Liblight
Strengths
Key click timeout, turn off when you dont hit any key
Working with lcd brightness
Keyboard light and BLN light too
Weaknesses
It wont work with high birghtness
No customization ( you can only change light value for lcd birghtness)
install
Better backup /system/lib/hw/lights.n1.so
Simply install from recovery.
changelog
1.1 This version prevents to turn on button's light ( keyboard and navigation keys) when high light, it couldnt handle light changes.
disable hardware buttons light too
when power on, sensors always says 0, so wait 2x 1.1sec and power down lights, when need.
2.0, [17/06/2013] This version use normal lcd brightness, and it changes keyboard and navigation keys light with lcd. When lcd brights it turns off keyboard lights.
redesigned. I use lcd brightness idea from QWERTYled.apk
2nd solution Userspace
Strengths
Easy customization
You can use only apk.
Weaknesses
Not BLN support
No key click timeout
install
Install latest apk, optimal install keyboard-light-remove.zip from recovery.
Start app, and start sevice.

How does this work with the keyboard patch that ties the keyboard lights to the capacitive buttons on the screen? Are you using this with that mod? If so would it do the same to the capacitive buttons?

try this

Try this, I did the same with hardware buttons. Test BLN too.
I installed this on Liquid Chrome and seems to have shut off the key lights when not in use... Don't see any problems yet?

I've found Nonamerzz's project. He made a userspace service to control keyboard light. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032962 )
He sent me the source code, I've change files, but I'm testing other liblight at the moment, so feel free to try it.
You need to install apk and remove liblight keyboard control, you can found both attachment.
Hello.
Could You add setting of ambient light sensor to 2.0 version? I'm using automatic brighiness and lowered it to 0% in low and medium lights. Keyboard backlight is really needed for me only if ambient light is below 100 lux according to automatic brightness regulator, but I'm using 0% of backlight for all ambient light below 3000 lux, and so 2.0 version keeps lights on even if I can see keys w/o it (in medium light conditions).
Thank You.

I dont think I could make it in liblight. Please try qwertyled, I've updated APK.
new qwertyled
Just made some modification in qwertyled:
Settings where you can define the sensor value when to turn light.
[updated 9th July 2013 : Add delay, so keyboard not blinking when you use subway ]

Is it possible to fix the broken landscape mode? If you open the keyboard it won't go back to portrait mode.
Also, thanks. The keyboard lights now work. Good job.

Its nothing with light library.
QWERTYLED Works well on my OmniROM setup, but I don't care for the unremovable "Q" notification in the upper left. I am using the Xposed module NotifyClean to force-remove it, but I wish I could just turn it off and uninstall NotifyClean.

I've removed notification from this version: QWERTYLed-1.30+bubor1.0-notify.apk you can download from the first comment.
bug report^^
dear bubor,
seems this odd behaviour went unnoticed up to now.. when the screen is turned off while the keyboard is expanded, and the screen is turned on again, the keyboard is not lit until keyboard contracted and re-expanded.
Also, when screen is off, expanding the keyboard make the backlight turn on but not the screen - now when power button is pressed, screen turns on and keyboard backlight turns off :silly:
this is about the only problem I had so far, thx for coding it up.. maybe you want to put the source on github as well?

For me one of the most useful apps since the huawei watch has no sensors.
Its a little bit tricky at first, but with a little bit of practice, this will work fine. Dont forget to set the correct possition fields in the smartphone app.
Works like a charm.

Thanks, what an awesome little app! Since you've played with it more, what are the smaller boxes at the top and bottom of the position screen are for? Ideally I'd like the slider to work across the top of the watchface, but I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
Also, in your video, you say you can customize it to show the percentage or not. The percentage shows for me, but I don't see any options to customize it at all.
No go here, installed and I can turn the brightness down but not up again. To make things worse, a cold reboot is needed to get viewable brightness (aw 1.5 stock)

It's cool but I feel it's just faster to press the button 3 times to temporary increase the brightness. Hopefully there's a light sensor on the HW2..

Not that i know of. Mine's completely stock, btw (v1.5).
EDIT: just so we're clear, you're not tapping on the screen, are you? I was referring to the metal button on the side. Press that quickly 3x and it'll increase the brightness.

Thanks, it does work after all. There just wasn't much difference with my watchface to notice the difference.
this was a good app recommendation ...
great app, and it goes darker then brightness 1 so already removed the other app I used for bedroom use
Hi guys
I was thinking if it is possible to use finger print scanner LED as a notification LED? I know it may not be currently possible but just floating the idea for the devs who make things possible all the time
I know the LED is huge to be used as notification LED but some people would love to have an LED instead of a ringtone or vibration alerts, thanks in advance for any help in this regard
I don't know if this is possible but this is a fantastic idea.
If this is actually possible it would be awesome!
Great idea, but is there really a separate LED ? I had always assumed that the FP uses the green lighting from the display itself....

Yes I thought it was like that.
I think it doesn't matter if there's a separate LED to light up the display or part of the screen itself is used as a notification LED, but I think all possibilities are there, to choose the color, random colors each time or per app, position on the screen etc...
I don't really see the point in using those specific pixels as a notification LED when any other pixels on the display work just as well. And if anything, you'd want to avoid lighting up the fingerprint pixels too much since they are being used more at high brightness and therefore more susceptible to burn-in.

I want one to do like Samsung's edge lighting. That with Pixel Pulse would be perfect.
Amy work on this?
I disabled fps on my 6t because of the annoyingly high brightness of this green circle when your finger is close!
I don't think there is a led, I saw a video where they open the 6t and access the sensor module, it's just a camera sensor under the screen, the amoled brightness is boosted in this particular part of the screen, that's all.
Thanks God they didn't use a laser light, half the people would go (really) blind.
You can use an app like noled to simulate a led anywhere on your screen.
What about this app?

Yes, that is the app that a lot of us have been using with no issues. You just have to go into the settings and tweak it to your likings.
