Your help friends,
I put a new rom(no problem with this). But my f** idea to use my backup files from previus rom was disaster my diamond stuck in the green screen at the begginig and not load windows. What now? any idea? Can i make hard reset in this situation with the buttons?(also which buttons?).No active sunch
Hello.
Yes, what you did is not possible, phone freeze is normal.
In order to do a hard reset, reset the phone (red button under the stylus) and immediately keep the volume down and the central round button (enter) pressed (you have to do that before the logo appears on the screen). The Diamond will go through the color stripes, and then to a gray screen which tells you to press volume up to start clearing the memory (not the 4GB, only the flash).
After that, you are left with the device as it was after flashing the new ROM.
Now, if you have the option to flash your previous ROM again, this is what you may do:
1. Flash the previous ROM back on the device
2. Do a restore from your backup, to have your device in the state it was before flashing the new ROM.
3. Install SPB Backup.
4. Make a backup of your device using SPB
5. Flash the new ROM.
6. Restore the backup you did with SPB. If asked, choose the ROM Update mode, and uncheck the Overwrite files check box.
Normally, you should get what you opted for, the new ROM with your old data and applications.
Please note that restoring a backup to a different ROM is not recommended, as there are a lot of (mainly) registry settings that are passed along which may give you problems. Nonetheless, if you want to do it, this is the way to go about it.
Best regards,
Nikos
make hard reset (look which buttons, i forgott it)
try your backup again, but you can choose 3 kinds of getting your backup.
you get a question before it startet. get you a question?

Anyone got Nanadroid working with Hero yet?
Need to take a back up on my device before I start playing around with it!
recovery.img with nandroid here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543571
Beat me to it - I did a successful Nandroid backup today before I rooted my Hero. So I guess if I need to I can restore that unrooted image. I used the recovery image in the rooting thread above xx
Hi Dayzee,
I'm pretty new to all this, su just to be on the safe side: does your method (linked above) allow me to make a full backup of everything I have in my phone now, and to restore that backup if / when I brick it trying to root it or install a different build?
Thanks in advance.

yes it will restore whatever you had when you made the backup inlcuding setting and just anything you can imagine.
i think that is what Nandroid does, but I've never had to restore from a backup so can't be sure - any thread or wiki on Nandroid will tell you.
The recovery image that you boot during the rooting process has Nandroid built in - when you get to the recovery console screen, scroll down to Nandroid back up and press the scroll wheel - away it goes, and then says back up completed - the file is then on your SD card in a folder called Nandroid and from the looks of the console, to restore, you'd just scroll to that option and press the scroll button.
If you're in doubt - do nowt - that's my moto. But good luck if you want to have a go
Dayzee
Thanks minogue, that's relieving. I'd like to start learning to make the most of my hero, but I'm quite afraid of breaking it, what with being so expensive and me having a monthly data fee for it and all.
Hi,
What is the image 'cm-hero-recovery.img' exactly?
Is it a particular Hero release? I presume this is the image of the rooted hero....but how does it compare to the unlocked HTC supplied Hero? Are there missing applications, widgets etc...?
Thanks
Phil
n00b question no. 1
I'm new to Android so I suspect you'll need to be patient with me, very patient. I'm trying to backup my device but I've been unsuccessful so far. This is what I'm doing:
1. Power down handset
2. Power handset back up(holding down back key) This brings up the Fastboot, I think, screen.
3. Plug in USB cable
4. Fire up CMD.exe
5. Enter "fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img" - this brings up Android system recovery screen.
6. but now when I select "[Alt+B]Nandroid v2.2 backup" it says performing backup for a second or so but results in: Error running nandroid backup. Backup not performed.
I tried removing the USB cable but that doesn't help. Any advice/ideas/anything, I'm desperate(not really, maybe a little: ). Thanks

hmmm, you need to have at least 152 MB + the size of your data partition free on your sdcard. If you have the space and still doesn't work, you can try to do a backup using command line from the recovery:
Code:
adb shell
nandroid-mobile.sh -b
ps. nandroid options:
Code:
nandroid-mobile v2.1
Usage: /sbin/nandroid-mobile.sh {-b|--backup|-r|--restore|-d|--delete|-u|--getupdate|--webget|--compress|--bzip2} [options]
At least one operation must be defined, try /sbin/nandroid-mobile.sh --help for more information
Not choices: Space! Thanks.
OK just did a backup works great Thank you all
I've been reading/searching everything I can get my hands on but I still have some questions to ask before I bite the bullet on a new ROM for my supersonic.
I've done the unrevoked root and fiddled around (of course did the nandroid backup as instructed). Subsequently I've installed setcpu and other root-requiring tools.
However, now I want to try cyanogenmod but I realize that in the event something goes wrong, even if I have done a nandroid backup, I won't know what to do. All writeups I've found involve using windows command line (fastboot.exe?).
So the short of my question is, how do I:
a) Restore to current setup
or
b) Restore to 100% stock
(I do have rom manager with clockwork recovery installed but don't know how they work (can't find a good write up.))

when you boot into recovery create a new clockwork back...
wipe system/data/davlik cache
flash cyanogogen
flash gapps if you want them
then reboot phone (will boot into cm6)
no at any point in tim you want to go back to the back you made.
power off phone
reboot into boot loader while holding vol down and power
chose recovery
should boot into clockwork mod recovery
wipe system/data/davlik cache
choose backup/restore
chose your restore you made earlier.
let it do its thing and reboot phone
easy money its breeze
Backup your Nandroid to your Mac
I'd advise backing up your Nandroid to your desktop as follows:
Plug your data cable into your Evo.
Plug it into your Mac.
Depending on the ROM you're on, you should have a USB icon show up in your notification bar on your Evo. (That's the bar at the top of your home screen.)
Pull the notification bar down.
Click on the line that says, "Charge only."
Choose "Disk drive," then "Done."
Your phone will show up as a Volume on your desktop.
Double click on it.
A Finder window will open showing the contents of your microSD card.
You want to find the Nandroid and copy it to someplace on your Mac.
I have only used Clockwork Recovery once. The Nandroid is either in a folder named "Nandroid" or it's in a folder called "Backup(s)." You will have two Nandroids, one you made originally when you rooted, and the current one. I'd save both.
I'd also suggest you start using Amon RA for your recovery. It does a better job of wiping Cache and Dalvik and has the ability to backup your Wimax keys. (It doesn't often happen that you lose your Wimax keys, but if you do, it often means replacing your Evo.)
Now, when you're ready to eject your Evo, right click on the Volume on your desktop (mine is called "NO NAME") and eject it.
THEN, go back to your Evo, pull down the notification bar and click on the line that says, "Disk drive."
Click on "Charge only," then "Done."
NOW you can safely unplug your Evo from your Mac.
With clockwork your backups will be located in /clockwork/backup id you intend to back it up to your Mac
How big (MB/GB) should the backup be?

I've tried this and also the automated method from rom manager and nothing works. If I go into recovery it shows fastboot (says nothing about clockwork nor about nandroid). It does give a momentary run down of green text that makes it look like it's trying to locate some files but says they're not present and forces me back to the screen before I can read it all...
Any ideas?
Looks like something was wrong with permissions or clockwork. I reflashed clockwork, forgot and re-allowed rom manager and now it appears to be backing up properly.
Thanks to those who posted up!
I can't seem to get the nandroid backup thing working. I'm new to this rooting stuff, but i got i done with unrevoked. I haven't done anything since rooting, but trying to get the damn thing to backup. Everytime i try, no matter if its through rom manager or directly through the recovery menu, it freezes when trying to backup the system apk's. Specifically at either the weather.apk or calculator.odex.
The first time i tried it, it corrupted my SD card! Good thing i didn't have anything important on there though.
Any ideas?
All you need to do is flash a new recovery since yours is ill-functioning.
The best way of flashing recovery is through fastboot. In order for this to work your device needs to be S-OFF. You can do this by using the new Alpharev/Unrevoked tool.
Once you have S-OFF, you can use fastboot commander, to flash the recovery.
If you get into any trouble or need any further help just holla
Okay, i have to S-OFF - seems simple enough with the new tool.
But after that, can you please guide me a little, I'm still completly new to this, and is somewhat worried about bricking when I haven't got a backup
All you have to do is downlaod fastboot commander, and the java jdk for the tool to work.
Then, download the Ra Desire recovery
Once you've got that, but into fastboot (power off, hold back key & power), and plug in via USB.
run fastboot commander, navigate to the "misc" tab, select "recovery" and nothing else and click "erase chosen partition", then go back to the "Hboot, radio & rec" tab, choose "recovery", and find the recovery.img you have downloaded.
Then, simply press flash recovery
Once that's done, power off and reboot into recovery (power off, volume down & power, then use volume down key to navigate to RECOVERY and press power to select)
Then do a nandroid backup.
Okay, I now got all that, and its making the backup, but how long should it take? It's been around 10 minutes now i think, and the screen is almost filled by rows of dots
wow, that's never happened to me... When I backup cyanogenmod 7.03 it takes under a minute!... this is a little strange.. If I were you I'd backup your texts (and apps if you want) and do a fresh install of a ROM (as in with fastboot commander, go to the "misc" tab, and wipe boot, system, userdata, sd-ext and cache then flash a new ROM through recovery), and try again. I've never had a problem like this before.
understand that if you're having problems with recovery now and if it didn't allow you to install, and if you wipe everything you might be stuck in fastboot, and then your only salvation would be a RUU

Thank with the thanks button
This is literally a step by step guide to get you rooted, flashed over to a custom recovery, and get you running a stable rom. I take no credit for the work of the devs. I also take no responsibility for any damages incurred to your cellular device, SD card, or voidage of thy warranty. Thanks for listening! Also I have an AT&T device so things here or there may change for others on different carriers. Read carefully.
1. Backup music, pics, and important files
2. Download xda member mskip’s toolkit that will be used for rooting/backing up your phone & restoring it if need be (http://goo.im/devs/mskip/toolkit/samsung_galaxy_s3/Samsung_Galaxy_S3_ToolKit_v7.0.exe)
3. Install the toolkit
4. Once installed run the toolkit it will ask if you want to check for an update ignore that for now as you haven’t donated to the project yet.
5. It will ask for which device you own. Read very carefully you want the one for AT&T 4.1.1 I think on the non donated version its selection 42 and on the donated version its 72. On your first time opening the toolkit may download the Stock rom for your phone incase you ever need to revert back.
6. Ok so now you should be at a list of options, this is the main menu for the toolkit.
7. Make sure your phone is unplugged and hit selection 1. This will install all the correct drivers you will be using with ADB to pretty much use the toolkit.
8. Ok so once that’s done you can go back to the toolkit to donate. Look for the option toolkit settings, go there. Look for the option to donate. This will take you to a separate page online to donate over paypal. Finish that get your activation code from your email. Go back to the tool kit setting and look for activate tool kit donate functions. Once in that option type in the code given and let the toolkit activate.
9. Close and reopen the toolkit this time select yes to update. It will probably ask twice as the toolkit will update then theres an internal program that will update.
10. Ok You ready? Were about to get rooting!!
11. Ok so open the toolkit, type no to the updater, now if you donated the option for your device will most likely change to selection 72. Now you should be at the main menu
12. Before you proceed make sure you have backed everything important up to at least your sd card or computer(Pics, files, music)
13. Go into the phone settings go to developer options and make sure debug mode is checked on.
14. Select option 2 (Root/Unroot options)
15. Select option 3 It does it all in one shot!
16. Select option 2 TWRP Touch Recovery (It’s nice)
17. Select option 2 I just did it cause it was recommended
18. It will compile a list then ask if you are ready type yes if you are
19. Let it do its thing. Now it will ask you to do some things with odin and stuff but the instructions are pretty clear. I cant bring them back up because im already rooted. once done your rooted and have a custom recovery (Woohoo)
20. Ok nothing has changed on the phone your Apps and app data are still there.
21. Ok open the toolkit back up. Select option 7 Backup/restore device
22. Select option 1 Backup all. Select 2
23. Select 1
24. Select option 2
25. Now follow the onscreen instructions you'll have to agree on the phone to let the backup happen. Don’t worry about encrypting the backup. Just let it do its thing
26. Let it do its thing, took mine a good hour to backup but its worth it as I did not lose my place in any of my apps or games!!!
27. Once that’s done go back to the toolkit select option 7 again then select option 5 (TWRP NAND) as this allows you to make a backup of
the original setup and is nice to have in case you mess up somewhere along the line.
28. Type yes
29. Now this next option is up to you you can have the phone save the backup on both your pc and sd card with option 4 or just have it save it to the pc with option 5 or just have it save to the sd with option 6. I would probably do option 4 just to have a safe backup on your phone in case your not near your computer.
30. Let it do its back up. This will take a while as well but is totally worth it as it insures that you have a stable backup to fall back to.
31. Ok so now EVERYTHING should be backed up to the MAX
32. Now lets discuss custom roms. You basically have unlimited options from tweaked original Sammy TouchWiz to AOSP & AOKP (That original Android look) and the Iphone looking MIUI.
33. I've Always been a fan of the AOSP and AOKP roms
34. As you become more familiar with how flashing works and constantly backing up and making a nandroid copy everytime you get a new rom setup you will be able to flop back and forth from your nandroid saves to see which roms you truly like best.
35. Ok so you need to download a rom (http://goo.gl/tTWxh) this rom is AOKP by XDA member TASK. So far its my favorite.
36. Now you need to download the google apps for this rom (http://goo.gl/QQqzc)
37. Now most roms that I've tried use the standard google apps. Task has compiled a set of google apps that work well with his rom so use them lol. When it comes to other roms cyanogenmod has Gapps on his site that you can dl if need be.
38. Ok once those finish dl, move both files to the SD card NOT internal storage as you will be wiping the internal storage.
39. Once everything is moved over. Make sure one last time everything is backed up as these next steps will erase all data on the internal storage of the phone.
40. Power down the phone. Remove the phone from its case. It was just easier for me with it outside the case.
41. Now you need to enter the custom recovery you flashed some 30 odd steps ago. Press the volume up key + Home Key + Power button. Getting the phone into recovery can be tricky. once you see the phone screen come on with the little blue words at the top left corner of the screen let go of the buttons and it should flash the screen a couple times and bring up the recovery. If it doesn’t pull the batt. And try again. Also I’ve had better luck getting into recovery with the phone disconnected from the usb.
42. Ok so your into recovery!
43. Select wipe, Wipe cache, Wipe dalvik cache, & System
44. Hit the onscreen home button in the lower left corner of the screen
45. Now go to install, Make sure (Use external SD) is checked
46. Look for the zip file with the rom should be like AOKP_datt2_ota-eng-task650
47. Click that file & start the flash process
48. When its finished go ahead and rewipe the Dalvik/cache
49. Now go back to the main screen on the recovery and hit install. Find the google apps that you put on the SD card. Install those.
50. Now this next part is important. After you install the gapps, go to the recoveries main screen and select wipe. Now do a factory reset. If you don’t do this its likely that you will either get a boot loop or get stuck at the animation screen.
51. Once the wipe is finished go back to the main screen on the recovery, hit reboot then hit system. Let everything load and you should be on a custom rom now!
52. Once it starts connect to WIFI but resist the urge to sign into google or any account just keep skipping.
53. Once you have android up and are at the home screen plug back to your pc and restart the toolkit. Also go back into the developer options and make sure debug mode is checked. Now I had an issue where the toolkit could see my device but would list it offline so therefore adb wouldn’t work to restore my apps. What I did to fix that was pull down the notification bar change the usb mode to camera let it install the drivers then switch back to media device. And poof it worked again.
54. Select backup/restore option 7
55. Select 10 Restore apps from backup
56. Type in the name of the backup file listed in the toolkit. Once again you will have to confirm on the phone that you want to restore the files. Let it do its thing. It took a while to do. Mine seemed like it got hung up on a file but just let it work. Also mine didn’t go back to the home screen after it finished. You’ll notice as you are restoring the apps it will list the apps & data its restoring. When mine was finished it just stopped listing things on the phone. So you will have to back outta that and restart the toolkit.
57. After that’s done you should have all your apps back & data to those apps!
58. Now you can go into your phones settings and add you google account info. And your phone will get back all your contacts and what not!
59. Now as a final option you can go back in and do steps 27-32 to have a backup of this rom.
60. Enjoy the rom, go customize, if you have any questions hit me up on gtalk [email protected]

1-to root it the first thing is to have OEM Unlock available and enabled in Dev Options
if not keep the device fully on and with data on dont restart, power off or reset for at least 7 days continuously (or a bit more) and you should have it
if it's not shown dot bother with the rest
2-to have Dev Menu available go to settings >> about phone >> software information >> on build number tape multiple times 10 times i guess, you will have a pop up confirmation
once back at settings menu you will find a new choice at the very bottom "Develper Options"
3-next step with to plug ur phone with PC with usb cable
after installing SAMSUNG DRIVERS & ODIN and downloading TWRP (custom recovery)
in ODIN 2nd tab, untick "AUTO REBOOT" VERY VERY IMPORTANT
chose the TWRP file using AP button/option in ODIN
put your phone in download MOD power off completely >> power back on while holding vol+ and vol- at the same time
flash the file using ODIN to your phone
4- now here is the tricky part
after fklashing TWRP if you reboot normaly you will be locked again and you wont have that OEM Unlock option i talked about and you will be stuck
so, after flashing TWRP, press vol- + power button to reboot the phone
AT THE VERY PRECISE MOMENT WHEN PHONE TURN OFF BEFORE POWERING BACK ON WHEN IT BLINK
RELEAS POWER BUTTON AND VOL+ and PRESS POWER BUTTON + VOL+ AGAIN VERY VERY QUICKLY
if successful you should boot into TWRP directly
5-once you are in TWRP wipe everything then format the device (ALL DATA WILL BE LOST)
of course you need to have the needed files already copied in the SD CARD
from twrp after the wipe and formatiing
go to install and flash in that order RMM_Bypass_v3_corsicanu or RMM-State_Bypass_Mesa_v2
then no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0
then at the end flash Magisk-v19.3
once its done reboot the phone normally, you will have your phone working as normal
once you are in, install Magisk APK MagiskManager-v7.3.2
reboot again
and voilaaa, you should have root and everything should be functional for you
although of course I will not be responsible for any kind of software or hardware damage, and certainly not responsible for any data loss
as it is completely you responsibility
all files you could possibly need will be in attachments if I can attach them
dd tried but couldnt attach them, so ull have to gather them ur self from previous posts
otherwise everything is in the original post of the owner, i did not add or moded anything, i am not a dev
I just gatherded the infos already shared
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nuary-t3760975
so big thanks to the original devs for the great work

#1 ans 2 are kinda backwards and #4 is worded pretty badly. Kinda stuck is misleading and doesnt explain what pitfall to avoid. This could do with some edits. I mean this with zero offense and i didnt quote your entire post just in case you do choose to edit it.
I bring this up because your guide was quoted in another thread and caused some confusion especially regarding #4
Perhaps very stupid and ignorant question: after performing step 5 (TWRP wipe everything then format the device- ALL DATA WILL BE LOST), how can I recover all the application data present in the internal memory (which were present before the root) ? Is it enough to have copied the entire internal memory (including the "android and data" folder) and copy it back into the memory or will I have to install all the applications again and redo the entire smartphone setting (wifi, BT settings, menus, etc)? Alternatively, might a Smart Switch backup work?
I really apologize for the ignorance!
