I searched all the forums about this issue but all I can find is things dealing with setting up text messaging. I have no network problems with data, text, or voice I just used the HTC network wizard.
Whenever I get a text message I can see the the beginning of the text in the selection screen but when I click on it the message is blank? So I can't read the whole text. I searched this Forum but couldn't find any people with similar problems. It seems to send them fine I just can't read the whole message for some strange reason. I have been clearing my memory and then flashing my Tmob Dash for the last three Kavana releases, they all exhibit this behavior. Any help appreciated with my problem.

Kavana 080408. The texts that I get show up on the main screen with a little bit of the text but when I click on them they don't show anything. I tried pressing all the buttons I can but it doesn't seem to do anything.
See is UNthreading them helps.
Uhm, just a silly guess here, but next time you're on the blank screen, click menu (right softkey) > 5 (Folders) > change to inbox, at least if it's not on inbox already. My friend changed his to sent and couldn't figure out why he couldn't see new ones either hehe
I looked everywhere in the messaging app and also the regular phone settings I don't see anything for unthreading. Also MMS can be viewed and sent normally. Just whenever I try to send or read a recieved text I have problems. When I try to send a text it doesn't let me type anything in at all. Not recipient and not the body of the text.
No I have already gone to all the folders. The inbox folder is where I can see the messages. You can read the begining of them, and who it is from but when you select one it doesn't show anything.
I had the same issue before, the problem disappeared after I uninstalled CE-Star (Chinese-reading problem).. do you have it installed?

Check in Accessibility Folder for unthreading.
DON'T Turn off the Damn active x
I finally fixed this problem.
I had a problem with WM 6.1 will only showing the headers and not allowing you to read the contents of : Text messages, Emails, MMS. This errors would also not allow you to write emails or text messages.
I thought Kavana's ROM had some big error with it but no one else was complaining. I downloaded Ricky's rom but same problem. So this weeked I fooled around with my phone believing it was some program I was installing. Even though I only install Google Maps, TCPMP, YGo, and Windows Live. I would install something then restart. I tried installing them one by one then it seemed to work but still after a time was becoming broken. I thought it had something to do with synching corrupted contact data. So I didn't synch but after a while it still came back.
This morning I finally realized that if you turn off active x it breaks the email and text which I assume both use IE active x The bad setting is.....
Main Settings Menu->IE Settings->Advanced Options -> NEVER TURN OFF ACTIVE X CONTROLS.
I think if Kavana, my personal hero, rolls another ROM you should take out this option.

I am glad to hear that you fixed and resolved your problem, and haha I hope that Kavana makes another Rom, he is awesome. But then again I got to thank Ricky for this rom to I love it.
hello i am having the exact same problem i checked all advice given i.e. make sure it is on inbox folder, check ie active x is enabled, and no change.
any advice
also when u do see the message headers like yianaki but when you select the message and then press a soft key it says"message cannot be signed and/or encrypted"
You need an encryption key for your email and you don't have it on your dash email, maybe. Just a guess. Is there documentation as to what you need to set up your email. What steps did you need to take to get your email on your home computer.
i actually have kavana 6.1 version 080408 so i just used the connection setup for US tmobile. and it was working previous to this problem. i did a hard reset now and its back to normal for now
SWEEEET!
Thanks "Y" you saved my life, I had the same problem. Keep Active x controllers checkmarked "On".
change IE option.
I had the same problem only can view the header of a msg, but can
t see the content. Here is what I did to solve it: go to IE\tools\option\general\encoding\change to Unicode
Cant Open Text Message.
Hi, I'm from Jamaica, I bought my HTC S621 from Digicel Jamaica [here]. I followed the instructions and installed WM6.1 80408 Kavana and it was totally amazing, I did it on Saturday and it worked great, everything was working GREAT. On Sunday I realized I was unable to open my text messages for viewing. When I click Text Message, the colour wheel shows and it starts to open then it closes. I did all the suggested this in this thread but nothing works, any more suggestions please, I really need to send text messages to my work crew and this is a major hindrance. I dont know how to soft or hard reset and would like to try that first, any other suggestion would be great. Thanks.
PLEASE dont laugh or throw tomatoes, I fixed it. In my attempt to load a Yahoo messenger app I installed an SMS application that was causing the issue. Problem solved, sorry to be a bother.

Just wanted to voice my agreement with Yianaki about "Never turn off Active X controls". The whole issue lies in the fact that the text messaging app is basically an Active X control. But I wanted to add the reminder that you need to make sure that the "Text Messages" app gets closed then reopened after you make the change, or it will not appear to work. (Use the task manager/celetask to close it)
I had the exact same problems with text messages: I could send an MMS, receive an SMS, but not send an SMS. When a text message came in, it showed up in the list as expected, but an attempt to view it resulted in a blank area with no useful menu options. I also couldn't send text (SMS) messages out because the create-new-SMS screen was blank and non-functional. It has nothing to do with the threaded vs unthreaded Accessibility settings for the phone, nor do you need to worry about configuring your WAP settings (GPRS and MMSC Settings); the "Connection Setup" app takes care of everything for T-Mobile perfectly. It's all an Active X issue.
PS: This is all on Ricky's v24 "Vanilla" ROM of WinMo 6.1 running on a T-Mobile Dash.
So on 01/01, I upgraded from my 2 year old 8525 (no mods done to it) to a ATT Tilt 2; and so far here is my issues/things I need help with/report:
Within the first 20 days of the 30 day return period, the SMS notification audible stopped working on sent messages. The notification on the screen still showed on the bottom just no sound. No setting change or soft reset fixed. No other issues before that point.
Got new phone.
Within 5 days on phone number two, the phone would default to SMS tree view (view is found by going to messages in touchflo and selecting 'All Messages' from the bottom left.) Would move TouchFlo to Home screen (my background that shows clock, date, etc.), hit the power key to power save, hit power key to power up, and then on SMS tree view, not my home screen. Didn't matter how long after I manually put phone in power save, it would still not default to homepage screen. Only consistently did this when I manually used the power button to put in power save. When I locked the phone and put in power save no issues, or it was random. When the phone went into power save by itself after my 2 minutes delay, the issue was random. This phone also froze on me twice upon in the SMS function.
Got new phone yesterday.
So far no issues.
So I'm on phone number 3, with the first 2 having software issues.
No mods to any of the phones (yet), and if this phone has issues, I have option to return and pay no restocking fee and get a different phone (probably an iPhone 16GB at this point, as much as I don't want one), or start downloading new manillas, cabs, and shells for this one.
Is there any updates out there I am missing, or anything else I am missing.
I've got my Cox Email (a POP3 push), my Hotmail, and my Yahoo Email (as an IMAP, it defaulted the setup that way) setup, and no other real changes. Using my old microSD card (1GB) that's got songs, audio clips, and pics/vids on it.
I saw the thread on att wireless forums for the update on an SMS freezing issue, not sure if relates to any of my issues, or if I should go ahead and upload to number 3 phone I currently have anyways. And should I upload other fix as well, eventhough I never saw issues with caller id on first 2 phones (coming in as unknown even though contact is calling you). Haven't had third phone long enough to discern any issues yet.
More info: I always have touchflo active
What do I need to do to get things on this phone to make sure it doesn't mess up? Other things one would suggest to customize the phone?
I WANT THE MOST GLITCH FREE POSSIBLE PHONE
Thanks
and sorry for the newb questions
Also to note:
I am technology illiterate. Simple explanations of every step is needed for me.
Also to note, I have a laptop that is running Vista 64bit and I have not uploaded the ActiveSync software to my laptop yet
my brother mentioned something to me about a PIM? for backup?
I can't speak to all the other issues you've seen, but AT&T packs a lot of bloat-ware on the stock ROM they put on the Tilt2, and it's usually stuff that users have no need for.
There's a utility at this thread that will sweep all that junk off in one swipe, you'll find it frees up a good amount of the available memory in the phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587637&highlight=crud+scraper
Okay. Thanks for the reply.
Something I want to do is get rid of all the crap I don't want, including but not limited to:
- all demo stuff
- the music files that came on the phone (artists: Chris Hawkes, Pacha Massive, Sidestepper)
- AT&T Navigator
- WorldCard Mobile
anything that is not related to phone, text, email, internet, my photos and music from my card, Facebook, stocks, weather = rest of it gone
I was reading in the sticky threads on how to do what and was still confusing and it scared me from doing anything to this phone, but I know I need to do things to clean it up and make it run better
Can anyone give me an idiot, idiot, to the supreme idiot guide on how to do what I need to do?
1. Upload ActiveSync to my laptop (not done yet) (my laptop runs Vista 64bit)
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
All I want to do is make the phone run better and fix glitches, and not have any glitches in doing this.
Thanks
After I do steps 1 - whatever,
should I install hotfix for unknown caller id and freezing SMS issue
htp://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=125218
or would another thing from someone else resolve this?
Maybe what I learned will help?
Have a look at this thread, and see if it helps you.

yeah it was a help thanks for the reply, but it wasn't a help.
as you see above, i haven't even put the activesync software on my laptop. so after i do that, what do i need to do first to get that crud+scraper and other things on my phone?
idiots guide please
what i need to do in what order is very confusing to me. all of this is confusing to me
i just want my phone to be less bloated and work properly with no issues. i think i have seen the caller id issue and not sure if i'm still getting the sms tree issue i saw on phone #2 i just replaced
The order is listed.
Hi again,
Yes, go ahead and get activesync on your computer 1st thing
then, Look at post #9. Do it in that order.
The .net 3.5 mentioned can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=en
Just download that, and run it while your phone is connected to activesync. It will put .net 3.5 on your phone. Next, copy the 3 files for crud scraper onto the phone somewhere you can find it, like my documents (on your PC, you'll need to right-click, copy, then right click, paste). Once the files are on the phone, just find the folder you put them in and click on the 'poop' icon. You can then clean off all the crap you want by checking the boxes.
So,
#1 Get activesync
#2 get .net 3.5
#3 run crudscraper
#4 I highly recommend SPB mobile shell. (google it) It just makes much easier to navigate the phone. There is a free 15 day trial.
#5 any of the other apps I mentioned are good.
That should get you started.
thanks for the reply subterran
subterran:
any thoughts to my homepage/message tree issue that occured with #2, and mow occuring with #3 phone I currently have? Thanks
the phone would default to SMS tree view (view is found by going to messages in touchflo and selecting 'All Messages' from the bottom left.) My wife and I both now have WM phones (mine is a Tilt 2, hers a Pure) and we don't want to spend money on text messages to each other, since each text message would count twice... once for her receiving and once for me sending. (on a pay per use plan it would be $0.40 each!).
I was looking for other options. Push email is o.k. but often times there can be a minute or more delay, and my early tests of push gmail are not producing any confidence that it would push reliably.
So then I was thinking IM. It looks like IM programs would be battery hogs, and have to stay running in the background, and could easily be accidentally closed. Also, when the phone goes to sleep it seems like they then switch you to "offline".
So am I missing something? What are my sms like, non sms options?
Also does anyone have any small programs that would set up a auto-soft reset on a repeating schedule, it would be great if I could start the morning with a fresh phone. Thanks.

Yes, any non-sms messaging app for your phone would obviously use data (3G or EDGE connection) to communicate, and would need to be left on all the time to be able to receive incoming messages and notify you in real-time...so battery drain would be in direct proportion to that.
The best solution I've ever seen for that is Palringo, a free IM-integrator app that can connect you through most of the common IM networks (yahoo, AIM, Google talk, etc), or just direct through it's own (if I remember correctly)...meaning that as long as you and she both have the palringo client installed, you don't necessarily have to use any of those services to be able to IM each other. It's also free, and I seem to recall that it can be set (but isn't by default) to stay connected even when the phone goes to sleep, but don't quote me on that part.
It would be great if one of these programs had a "listening" service that would run in the background and then notify you of the "call" similar to an email.
I have seen a few online, (my research has just begun) that indicates "push notifications". Sound interesting, the data connection would remain active all the time that does not bother me.
I seem to have lost the setting to switch the "x" button from close to minimize. That would solve the issue with accidental closing the program. It would have to be managed via the task manager.. no biggy.. and then if I can find a soft reset scheduler it would keep the open programs from overwhelming the phone.

it's the other way around. default for winmo is minimize, there is
an htc bundled app called taskman. it's in settings - task manager which is making apps close when you click X
plenty of other apps can change that too

I just got a Nexus 5x and I'm looking to at least try project Fi for a week or 2. That said I don't feel like carrying around 2 phones all the time. Id like to forward my texts from my old phone but its a windows phone. There doesn't appear to be any way to do that I can see. There doesn't appear to be any text forwarding or mirroring apps that work on windows phone.
Is there anything you all know about it? Even if it's a web portal or something I can log into. I've tried a few different 3rd party SMS apps but they all use the number on the current phone, I cant find one that I can add a different text account...this would be the ideal solution.
Tried logging into verizon messages in the browser and I can get in but the text interface never loads.
Like I said this is only for a week or 2 so even a fairly clunky solution would be acceptable at this point.

Give people the google fi number and have them text that number and if you decide you do not like google fi try and to get the number ported to google voice and forward that to the windows phone.

I suggest you find the section for your windows phone as there will be other people/experts there familiar with windows phones that can help you better than us as this is android.
From my limited expose I would say probably not but I could be wrong.
Hey all,
Got the Pixel 2 XL and love it so far. Came from an iPhone 7 Plus, and really miss iMessage, but am learning to deal with it.
One feature that I've been trying to figure out how to do is have it so I can send text messages from my laptop. I remember back when I had my Galaxy Nexus I used to be able to use an app to mimic essentially how iMessage allows me to text people from my phone or my mac. Looking for something like that again.
I've tried researching but all I can find are thread's / articles from a couple years ago about apps that seem pretty dated. I tried using MightySMS, but after a certain amount of messages per month it requires a subscription.
Personally, I would have loved if Hangouts still allowed SMS, and that would've been the perfect solution.
Any suggestions?
I'm truly sorry if this subject has been beat to a pulp, as I imagine it probably has. I tried researching beforehand, and as mentioned, everything I found was pretty old.
I recommend and use Pushbullet as my daily driver. It is very light with Windows and Web integration. There is not a native app for MacOS but you can use Noti to sync to desktop. I personally just use the web version with desktop notifications on on any platform. If you have Verizon then there is Verizon Messages which is very robust and allows for syncing to iOS. Also MightyText and AirDroid but they are extremely bulky.
I used to use Airdroid quite a lot, and it was certainly a good program that did what it advertised. The only reason I stopped using it is because most people I communicate with use Whatsapp, and Whatsapp web is better than any SMS app on a computer.
Hangouts still does text messaging (SMS) or at least it did a few months ago when I used it last. Install it if it's not there then click on SMS in settings to enable.

I'm in full agreement on WhatsApp. Unfortunately in my experience (at least in my friends/family circle) it's tough for me to convince iPhone users to switch over to using WhatsApp.

As far as I've researched it only supports SMS now if you have your number ported to Google Voice or use Project Fi. Otherwise you cannot.
You are correct, Hangouts is not able to use your cell carrier number.

I use Join. It does clipboard sharing, notifications, SMS, and more. Has a PC app and chrome extension which should work on mac? It's $5 after a month free. Well worth it. I use it constantly both for texting and to send files or share a webpage from my phone to pc or vice versa. Give it a look

I'll 2nd Mighty Text here. I use the free version and never found anything else better, including PB. MT has a 200 SMS per month limit... I've hit it once in 3 years? I use it on my Wi-Fi tablet too.
+1 for Pushbullet. works great for me.
Mighty text or Pushbullet.
I've seen too many bugs in Pushbullet though.

Not sure who your provider is but I used to use Mighty Text when I was with T-Mobile. Verizon has desktop apps for Windows and Mac, however there can be syncing delays on the desktop versions.

Yeah I guess that's how it works. I must be used to it because I had to test it. It does seem to stay, I think, if you click on the extension and pop out join in a new window. But if you just reply to a text and don't already have it popped out in a new window it will disappear. There's pretty good support here if you want to ask http://forum.joaoapps.com/index.php?forums/join/
I like Join .. BUT .. Google Drive is blocked at work and since this is where it stores files/messages .. I can't use it. I use MySMS to send and receive texts but I might check out MightyText since it had some positive feedback.
I like Pulse.
It lets you sync messaging between multiple devices and the web as long as the primary phone is left on and has service. You can even text from a second phone using it. That's useful if you have a data only sim in a phone or a tablet.
In my experience the developer can be a bit hostile to bug reports when he isn't sure how to fix it or if you make a suggestion that doesn't align with his vision, but the app is well done.
I downloaded Pulse a few days ago it it seems to work well so far. I also really like the look of it.
