Which Today software are u using?
i bought resco phone today, (battery life acceptable, interface is good)
resco today plugin, (battery life acceptable, interface not nice)
tried free vito winterface (sucks my battery life)
original touch flo 3d (by far the best battery life out of the 4 i tried)
by far i think touch flo3d is the best.. but takes up alot ram space.. (more ram space = more batter life?) <- correct me if i'm wrong.
currently sticking with resco phone today..
feel free to comment

a quick question for those using the new Windows Mobile 6.5 Today screen...
How do you make it usable?
I think that it looks nice and clean, but it's just so much more user-un-friendly than TF3D...the calendar in TF3D is much cleaner and easier to use. Also the weather app in TF3D seems a lot cleaner as well. And the start menu/program launcher without TF3D is hard to rearrange.
What do you use to get around that?
And has anybody tried using SPB Mobile Shell 3?
Thanks!

Hey there
I really like your layout. It is very hard to find some good today layouts but I like this...Could you please let me know which theme did you use for the pocket plus and what plugins etc?
Did you also do some customization? Or customization including coding?
Thanks a lot.

Personally, I don't believe it's an app that they are too proud of ... and I CERTAINLY don't think they want you to read what's in their forum about it.
If you SERIOUSLY want to know the weather, look into SBSH Pocket Weather. THAT one works well.
NOTE: I am not affiliated with either product ... just a paid-up user of SPB who's experimenting with,IMO, a better (and cheaper) product.

But I'm evaluating the Mobile Shell...it takes up less real estate and I can have the tabs for all my pertinent plugins, which I do like.

Less real estate? The way I have SBSH configured, it takes about the same amount as SPB. OK, you can put SPB into a tab, but then you lose almost all WEATHER functionality and detail. If you delete it altogether, you'll also regain the program space. Why keep an application that hardly works?
FWIW, I plan to buy SBSH.

Get SBSH...
I highly recommend SBSH Pocket Weather over the SPB Weather. I used the Mobile Shell for their trial period. It was a nice app...but it did have some memory leaks...I'm sure they fixed it by now, but who knows.
The thing is...their weather app was just horrible. It was soooo inaccurate to a point where it was laughable. Then I found out that the weather info it receives is coming from some Russian site that uses weather trend to forecast and not from a real weather data sites like NOAA. It would be raining cats and dogs and SPB will say "currently sunny -- and for the next 5 days." I'm in California btw. Maybe if you are in Europe, it's more accurate? But I've gone through their forums for a solution and it's simply not a good product.
I am not affiliated with either one of those companies. After trial, I picked SBSH Weather since it was more accurate. Luckily, my company pays for software purchases ... but from what I remember SBSH Weather was cheap.
Just my $0.02.

You can configure SPB weather to use weather.com for a weather source and increase the reliability of the forcast data. I use it with Mobile shell 1.5 and it works great.
Anybody noticed that in new ROM`s SPB Weather and X-button (1.51) have an issue...where all the text of SPB Weather turns to black and it is not viewable in black themes? I have tried to uninstall the X-button and everything seems to be OK with SPB Weather...but X-button is a must have so...any tips?

Tip is to download the latest SPB Weather from the SPB Forum mentioned in this thread. That fixes the Black font issue.
And to be fair, you can configure SPB Weather to use any weather source using custom templates. Bit fiddly, but if you really want to then again, check out the SPB forum and you'll find quite a few templates that have been created by SPB Weather users.
Just to be clear, I'd go for SBSH everytime though. Not just for their Weather program, but in my opinion all of their products are slightly better than the SPB equivalent, and their support/forum is the best I've come accross (although Lakeridge are generally excellent too).

I tested the SPB and I love the tabs and the added real estate on the today screen because I could configure the launcher, the phone suite, weather and time, all to be in tabs...was great.
But the programs were a memory hog...after a SR, with all running was down to 18mb of ram and it was a little sluggish. Plus there is no built in task manager, which meant adding another task manager program.
I went to SBSH, which I had already purchased, and am using SBSH weather, and i-Launcher. I'm testing phone alarm though, but I miss the call filtering.
Now I'm running 24mb after a soft reset. Much better.
Jim
and it works on the HD.

I have tried 2.1.3 with skins from here. It works, but changes the look of SPB Mobile shell back to the 'old' layout which is kind of different and the graphics really don't look so good on the big screen, maybe on a X1 you can't tell it so clearly because the screen is smaller (with the same resolution that is). It's also buggy, some icons on certain skins don't show, sometimes the weather doesn't show correctly, stuff like that.
Looked at a number of skins and decided, that the default skin was by far the best...you might give it a try though. Now running 2.1.4 with the default skin and find it way more useful than Touchflo 3d.

I love this software
it has great features and makes the HD or SEX1 wonderful and gives him a bit of iphone flair
hope they extend the functions until we dont need the winmo interface anymore
not as nice as touchflo but far more functions
it is worth a try and if happy a buy
It`s working great... I don`t really like the today screen it would have been great if it looked better...
It would be nice to run touchflo3d and with Spb Menu on the Today screen instead of the Programs button... best of both worlds... because with SPB i don`t really use the today screen as much as the first Calendar tab in its menu... which looks great...
It would be nice as a today screen... or maybe you can use it as such i don`t know. :|

SPB Mobile Shell really sucks imho
they don't appreciate our skinning abilities, they don't release any technical documentation for customizing (api, calls an so on) and every release mess ALL layout settings so all our work in finding correct layout has to restart for any little release. It's simply frustrating, so i don't even release my theme (90% done for my xperia) 'cause I don't want encourage people to use spb product. They don't deserve us.
Even integration with THEIR products (spb phone suite, necessary for phone profiles) is simply RIDICOLOUS as you can't have a wifi switch on "home" screen, 1 year old request on spb forum and no response
PhoneWeaver is FAR better, and I can invoke menu (fully customizable with self-explainatory skins) with a hardware button using TouchFlo3d
Been using Mobile Shell on my HD for a few days now, and I've had to soft reset the device almost once a day during the test.
Applications keeps crashing and the device hangs.
I find the GUI far better than TouchFLO, but in its current state it is of no use for me.

I definitely liked SPB Mobile Shell on my QVGA device. Tons of great skins have been developed. Just not too many available for WVGA yet though. Of course they're coming out with Mobile Shell 3.0 soon and PointUI 2.0 should be out shortly as well. I'll probably just wait to see how they do.
http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php for a nice set of skins for Mobile Shell
I have to say, I persevered with TouchFlo but after putting the superior MobileShell on it's clear HTC have a long way to go before getting it right.
The front screen is just such a waste of space, if you could at least configure it to display mails, calls and a couple of shortcuts I'd be happier. If I want to know the time, I look at my watch!
So if anyone is new to TouchFlo and new to MobileShell then give it a try just to compare, you don't have to stick with TouchFlo at the end of the day.
Added bonus is that most of the apps and extra skinning still work without the today plugin enabled so it still looks pretty.
i tried and took out the SPB MS 3.0... have iswith my contact mgr.. i am back to touch flow
i switched from touchflo to spb mobile shell and im loving it! so much better than touch flo for me, i can actually get to my messages etc with a few less clicks!
I really like Spb MobileShell. Nomore TouchFlo for me.
i went with spb as well but changed back to touch flo. Touch flo has much mroe information readily available without needing to launch any addition apps. it is very functional. spb isnt bad but lacks some of the data i am looking for. If i didn't have touch flo i would certainly consider spb as a primary interface. defiantly worth a try for those who have yet to give it a go.
I works pretty well on my TP2.
I do prefer Touch Flo 3D2 because i really don't use the functions on Mobile Shell.
I was usin an iphone for the past 2 years.. ( since it came out )
when i saw the Tp2 i was really impressed
and decided to change...
never used a WM device before.. never had a smartphone before
besides the iphone.. so im kinda new on all of this...
when i saw the starting menu.. i was really surprise in a bad way..
being used to have all the app right there ( iphone )
and now having the touch flow... it was pretty awkward
for me, same day of having the TP2 i was lookin for cool apps
and found SPB.. and from there.. i never went back to touchflow!
im so happy usin the SPB
For those of you who are trying the phone with both TouchFlo, and without it, can you tell us how much RAM is available after a soft reset in both cases?
Thanks!
i was not sure wich memory i was supose to
tell you so heres both
Storage Total 277.60mb Free 71.35
and Program Total 187.61mb
free 86.99mb
this is usin SPB shell and after doin softreset.
im guessin the one u want is the second one..
wich is the one that uses the RAM...
Wow! If there's only 87Mb left, out of 288Mb RAM total, something is taking up a whole lot of memory. Could you try it again, after enabling the TouchFlo Today plugin, and disabling SpB?
Of course, none of this is critical if in fact the phone can run a half dozen apps or so, along with your favorite GUI, whether it be TouchFlo, or SpB, or SBSH. My iPaq gets down to about 40Mb free, out of 128Mb, and it doesn't seem to hinder it in any way. I use the SBSH interfaces on it. It runs WinMo 6.0 Classic.
Have you noticed whether or not the phone is as prone to memory leaks as other WinMo devices are? It wouldn't be the phone's fault if it were, it's more about WinMo than the hardware methinks.
Thanks for the reply!
yups, memory leak seems prevalent here. i only have the default programs running and available RAM drops to about 80+MB.

Isn't that storage capacity?
Try to soft reset and click on the topright icon and see what percentage it says.
The main issue I had with MS3 was the fact it can't interact with the bluetooth, so I'm sticking with TF3D until SPB can get MS3 fully compatuible with the TP2 (would be unfair to expect them to have it compatible at launch since they haven't had the phone for long enough to iron out the bugs!).
can you please post some SPB Mobile Shell 3 screenshots?

Oh, lol,
Well, I got just TouchFlo3D and I have just a little more right after softreset.
Total: 188.21 MB
Free: 92.61
Switched to Mobile Shell as well because it offers much more individual editing of the screens, but I really miss the contacts and the SMS/MMS interface from TF3D.
Does anyone have a good recommendation?
Anyone disabled TF3D and kept the original WM home screen interface? I personally disabled it and kept the original interface even though I don't like how the WM SMS look. I disabled it because I don't like the default TF3D colors and I tried changing it black, but it's a no go. I don't know why! I did change the background and the drop menu all black which looks pretty neat since anything black looks good. What I really want is the WM6.5 Zune interface so I can't wait for WM6.5 official release!!!
Let us know what you have.
TF3D does not appeal to me!
TF3D is pretty, so people "oooo" and "aaah" over the phone and buy it.
However, I still think that TF3D is a bunch of useless kitsch that gets in the way of actually using the phone effectively. After a few hours of it interfering with what I want to do, I turned it off. (At least this time it took a few hours and not a few minutes.)
This is especially true of the messaging (it's just in the way), and the photo album. (who wants to see tiny, slanted, distorted versions of the pictures?) It's been a while, so I cannot remember the other specific things that annoyed me.
TF3D was the first thing I disabled on the device... I don't like that I cannot choose my own programs and way of working.
I use Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop
on my personal Touch HD I much prefered the TouchFLo interface to the standard windows one - saying that, that was running a Dutty ROM
However on my work TP2 - I have it disabled as it gets in the way of my business apps - i.e. MS Communicator etc.
TF3D has bad things an good things.
The biggest failure and that's why TF3D is just crap is because it's not intuitive and easy to use. Way to many steps to get things done, pretty useless taskbar (exepts for the killing programs part). You can do to much information on one screen at the same time and too little. It's nice that they include things like a calendar, but it's pretty useless and in many ways TF3D makes the use of third party software actually harder.
The very good things about touchflo 3d is the push pages, the scheduels, and the best thing is the fueture to see all of your conversation with one contact. I really love it. Next to that it's snappy and pretty.
Well I treid SPB mobile shell 3, but it just doesn't do it. Also many features, but the fact is: when I use my phone it's to get something done pretty quickly. I just want to be able that I have a good view of all the info I need (messages, appointments) in the least ammount of time and to be able to do something in little time. The regular wm is just very easy. Start - settings/programs - choose- done.
Seeing my messages when there is a new one I get a popup and pres view and I there. I do not have to click the task baar. Get a new screen there push on the button, then being transported to the touchflo tab and then have to choose the message.
THats 2 clicks vs 4/5 clicks.
I kept the default TF3d for now, as soon as the official WM 6.5 ROM will be available, I'll switch to the Titanium UI.

It replaces TF3D completely as a 'Today' plugin.
Basically one just has to install the CAB.
(Note: it will not show up under All Programs, but as a Today plugin only)
> Go into Settings> Today>
> Remove check next TF3D
> Enable Check next to FEWidgets Ultimate
Two versions- Large widgets and Small Widgets for anyone who needs a whole bunch of widgets.
I did try it out on my TMO TP2 and both versions basically work when I tested each separately.
Though I haven't tried fine-tuning each widget for my TP2 yet.
Enjoy.
i kept my TP1 and gave the TP2 to Dad whose TmoWing crapped out. Had to disable TF3D for him today. The last straw was contacts/call history will not allow you to dial out, it's link to the phone dialer was broken or something. I don't know if this is a result of a tweak I did or if the Tmo's TF3D version has a bug. After disabling TF3D, you can press the contacts again to call out. For future reference, anyone know the cause/solution?
Like above guy said, now I need a replacement for tf3d. The last version of BatteryStatus that I used was 1.04build266 from this time last year, which has since been replaced by HomeScreenPlusPlus or something like that. Anyone know of a stable version for the TP2? Stable enough for Dad?
Today Plugins
I kept the default TF3D, but with HDWall, because I love the eye-candy of the interface and I find it very intuitive to use. I have also tried other today plugins, such as PointUI Home 2, FEWidgetsUltimate and iPhonetoday, but none of them felt as smooth and easy to use as TF3D for me. Out of the other interfaces I tried I find FEWidgetsUltimate to be the best.

LINK - PointUI
EDIT: On my previous device I tried SPB Mobile Shell - LINK
I also got rid of TF3D. IMHO that is eye candy for people who don't know how to use a computer - and that is still a large number of people out there using phones. W/o TF3D I get things quicker done and have more flexibility to set up the phone the way I use it best.

Thanks for the link! HDWall and Mobileshell looks nice.
It is VERY usefull for me! I can't use without! I'm bored by WinMo interface.
I too found TF obtrusive and unintuitive so switched it off. I used to use SPB Mobile Shell on the Kaiser and liked it, but I'm a bit fed up of the way it doesn't integrate with Informant and Flexmail, so I'm back to the WM interface and don't miss all the bloat.
THEIRS A NEW VERSION OF SPB MOBILE SHELL http://www.spbsoftware.com/products/mobileshell/ TO BE HONEST, I HAVE NEVER BOTHERED, ABOUT TOUCH FLO AND MANILA, CAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS, USED SPB, AND NOW THEY HAVE FACEBOOK AND TWITTER WIDGETS, BRAVO AND I NEVER HAVE BATTERY DRAIN AS WELL WITH SPB.

Manila 2.5 is much much better ....
mobile shell since v2 its the same problems not finger frindly as manila 2.5
nice feactures but the same no sms app, alarm or calendar .. infornutaly uses windows app a terrible mistake again in M.shell v3.5
the new feactures are excelent customisation like android and a nice carrosel idetical to tegra UI but is still the same unfornutaly some times i need the stylus to go to calendar apointments, alarm and sms opens in windows ?????
a terrible mistake in this new version not finger frindly as manila 2.5 ....
mobile shell v3.5 to be perfect need 3part app for exemple vito sms chat , g-alarm and thumbcal ....
Agreed.
Even the simplicity of the music tab is missing. And using WMP produced huge load on the system.
From another hand the interface is more "Android" like which give more informative and comfortable screen.
I'll give a try. Combined with manila 2.1 though
A number of Mobile Shell threads already exist like these few. No need for another!
