Aero Problem? - G1 Themes and Wallpapers

So I've searched the forums on here and AC.
My phone was not downloading chomp sms update so I restarted.
I have the aero theme so it booted and showed the aero boot screen.
It kept showing it (flashing android) over and over.
The only way I could get around it was by camera + power.
Do a dreaimg.nbh (RC29)
Redo the whole root / mod process
Installed Aero theme again, worked fine.
Until I rebooted, it looped again...
So what's up?
Discuss.

NVM, not a aero problem.
I just did the whole process (except for the theme).
And right when I got to updating radio, it rebooted and is looping again...

you didnt backup before? you could of simply go into bootloader and restore

how do i do that?

Did you make a nandroid backup? If so look up "nandroid" or you can go to the sticky in the dream development secton.

[Q] Leaked & rooted FroYo 2.2 update ?? wipes everything?

OK so I have some doubts on whether to flash the leaked update and whether or not it is a TRUE update, or like a reflash where all my info/apps/settings would get reset.
Any light that you guys can flash on this for me would be great.
Thanks

You would have to wipe your cache before you flash. I tried it to see what would happen and the keyboard didn't install. Just back up your apps/contacts/calendar and you'll be fine.
i'm not sure if it wipes everything. you can always do a nandroid before..
titanium backup + google concacts sync and you wont even notice that you wiped, takes you 15 minutes to set everything back up, instead of a few hours.
forgot to mention that Im only partially rooted via the unrevoked3 method, been waiting on the official release of froyo before jumping in to a custom rom.

Check and check, I do regular backups of both. Hell I might just dive in head first, I could always flash a stock RUU if I screw up right?
Another question, does titanium also back up call logs/text messages?
The update doesn't require a wipe, but its always a good idea. I did it without wiping and everything pretty much worked, but I wanted to make sure nothing would go wrong later, so I did a factory reset afterwards. If anything goes wrong, just do a factory reset.

It should, but you need to back up a specific thing in Titanium Backup. It's a green entry that says (I think) Email & Messaging.

[Q] OK, so what am I missing....

First off, thanks for all the help so far, this site is the best!
I just rooted my Evo using the unrevoked3. Had a little bit of trouble, nothing major, and overall it was a success. I also installed ROM Manager and Titanium Backup, based on suggestions found here.
The problem is, I'm not quite getting how to flash the roms... I downloaded one through ROM manager, and it seemed to work, but I didn't notice a single thing different. I tried to install CyanogenMod, and it downloaded, but it would always fail during the install.
I tried downloading on my computer, then moving the .zip file to my sdcard. Then I select "install rom from sdcard" and everything seems to go ok, I end up having to go into recovery and "rollback" my phone to the stock rom, because twice now I've almost bricked my phone.
Really, what I'm wanting is a setup like that "Kuma Style" one (without the animal), and a different bootscreen. I have spent a lot of time searching around, and it seems simple enough, I just seem to be missing some integral part of the proccess.....
Any help is appreciated!

I am not familiar with Unrevoked, but just running unrevoked doesn't completely root your phone. You need to do the second parts of rooting which unlocks nand.
Ah, so there is more to do. Maybe that's the problem then.... *off in search of how to unlock nand

Unlocking nand just unlocks something so that you can save full image backups. That wouldn't lead to your phone not installing a ROM right, it's just something you'll want just in case things go wrong. So still finish the root and get nand. But that's not what you're missing here.
Possible error: Did you wipe settings &factory reset and wipe cache in ClockworkMod before flashing the ROM? I think that could lead to some problems.
Try flashing the alternative Amon Ra recovery through rom manager (will state that rom manager won't be fully functional unless clockworkmod is installed) and loading the roms onto the sd card then reboot into recovery. Amon Ra seems to work better imo than clockworkmod. When you're talking about something like "kuma style," those are themes that are usually flashable in recovery also. The boot animation could alse be flashable in recovery but if not, there are instructions on how to adb push custom ones onto your phone.

Gah! So I downloaded the enamored theme, moved it to the sd card, then went to ROM Manager and selected "Reboot into Recovery"and selected the enamored.zip. It said the install was a success, but when I rebooted, the phone stuck on the bootanimation. I tried restarting a couple times, but it always gets stuck in the same place.
I booted into recovery (if thats waht you call the hold the volume button down while pushing the power button trick), and selected recover, then nandroid, then a time under yesterdays date. Phone recovered fine.
WtH am I doing wrong? I realize I am way out of my league, but I'm not completely retarded. Again, GAH!
Are u wiping data and cache when flashing a ROM? I have been stuck at the CM6 boot animation when coming from a different Rom and not wiping.

When you flash a theme, it could take up to 2-5 minutes to finish. This occurs during the boot animation. I flash themes all the time and I notice it's usually around 2-3 minutes wait. Maybe faster for others but that's just been my experience. If it's over 5 minutes than there's probably something wrong with your zip file or maybe clockworkmod recovery doesn't flash it properly. Also, it could be an issue with the kernel you're using...I noticed on kingklick cfs #10, I was stuck on boot animation for about 7 minutes and so I reverted back to the stock kernel and the theme was applied within 3 minutes.
ok, apparently I've been missing that step...
where do I do that again?

I waited a good long time. Am I at least headed in the right direction? Sorry to sound whiny, it's just that there's a few little things I want to do, and I'm intimidated as hell by actually doing any command line, so I'm hoping to avoid that- aka riding someone else's coattails
First, which rom are you using and is it stock or custom kernel? Are you using clockworkmod recovery? Try flashing the alternative amon ra recovery in rom manager then boot into recovery and apply your selected theme.
if you are using a stock rom it must say stock 2.2 deodexed
if it is not a deodexed rom.. of any kind.. then themes will say they flashed but they will either brick your phone or not work at all.
and stop using clockwork.... just use amon ra

I could be way off here, but I've seen some people who rooted using unrevoked, and run into trouble flashing things (or maybe I'm thinking of trouble with terminal commands) and it turned out they couldn't find flash_image anywhere in there SD card, Which should be installed (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
I saw a lot of reports of this in chainsDDs superuser thread, if I remember correctly. They had to install flash_image.img (which is a file available on toasts part 2 root tutorial)
I obviously could be wrong about this, I've never used unrevoked, I rooted via toast, and his method included everything.
@ V_lestat
Thanks for the heads up about themes having the ability to brick your phone if not deodexed, I never knew that. I flash roms and kernels a lotbut never messed with themes much.
At OP, have a look at virus Rom thread. It's a great ROM, and he has built some different themes to go with it. Beautiful stuff, great ROM, great thread.
Good luck

See, some people say use clockwork, some people say Amon.
I looked around a lot beforehand, and people kept saying to use unrevoked, so I did. Now people say I should have used Toast?
Thanks for everybodies help so far, I am reading everything and taking it all in.
I Don't Mean to add any Confusion to your situation. I am new to this also.. I went with unrevoked also and when I booted into recovery with clockwork mod. I did a nand back up first to make sure if anything went wrong I could just boot back into recovery and load my backup. Then I wiped my Data & Davlick Cache all of the caches. Then I installed my Rom and it worked like a charm. I will add it did take about 5 to 7 mins to boot only on the first time though. I hope that helps some as to the process and what to do first don't give up XDA rocks with the smartest mind on the planet.

If you are using ROM Manager to "install zip from card" it presents you with a dialog with two unchecked check boxes. One of them is "wipe data + cache". make sure you check it before hitting ok on that dialog.
If you are manually booting into recovery then in the recovery choices you will see one that says wipe data and one thats says wipe davlik cache. first do a nandroid back up then wipe those data and davlik then install the rom. By the way are you just installing a theme or a full rom that might be the issue i am just wondering maybe a senior member can help on wether you can install a theme over a rooted stock theme or not?
Success!
I went into ROM Manager, backed up current ROM, went into recovery manually, wiped the cache, then installed from zip, and it worked! I tried a cool theme I found, and I like it, but it seemed old. I just installed fresh, and the enamored theme, and all is working great!
A couple more questions,
1) how do I get my contacts back?
2) How do I get my apps back onto my phone? I have them backed up on appbrain, but I haven't been able to find how to get them back to the phone.
So far, I've tried a couple of ROM's (and/or themes) and I've ended up flashing back to my own "safe" one, until I figure these two things out.
A tremendous thanks to everyones help! I seriously couldn't have done it without you guys
Edit; Oh yeah, one other thing. How do I delete the other nand backups? There's like 5, and I need to free up some memory. I tried going in and selecting one to see if it gave me the option to delete, but I didn't see anywhere that it did.... Got it. Search feature to the rescue

[Q] What to do now, is it a decoration, or can it be saved?

Hi everyone!
I managed to root my DHD last night, used the tool to get S-OFF and ENG-OFF thing, well, everything that I could. I changed my radio, and installed a custom rom, everything went well. Then, I decided I'd want a new theme..... And then everything goes... yeah..
I installed Android Revolution and chose CommonSense as my new theme.
Well, I as I read that you need to use CWM Recovery and install the theme as a .zip from there, so I did. Put the .zip in my sd root and installed the theme from there. But it seems that was not the way to do it.
And as I read the instructions, that was definitely not the way to do it.
So, now my phone boots, HTC with big letters comes up, and then it changes to HTC Quietly Brilliant with a twitch. After being on Quietly Brilliant, it goes to black for 400 ms, and changes back to Quietly Brilliant and starts to loop that.
I tested that I can still do fastboot, and go to CWM Recovery from there..
But, I firstly decided to come up on here to ask what should I do now?
You can reflash the rom or find a working theme and install so that the boot loop will be gone.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
its only a bootloop chillout there are 3 options, 1. find the version of that thme for your rom and flash it again. 2. flash your rom again. 3. push your framework-res.apk to/system/framework/ using adb
Yeah, I think it's being fixed right now.
I tried installing theme again.. THE RIGHT WAY and the RIGHT THEME. But, that didn't help, so now I'm flashing the rom again.
It's a great relief that it was just a "bootloop chillout"
Thanks for your help Lopio & AndroHero!

if your going to mod your device expect many bootloops best idea is before you flash anything, do a nandroid backup in recovery, it only takes a minute and if anything goes wrong you dont have to mess about flashing a new rom, you can just restore your old one
next time, backup before you flash from the CWM.
if u have a boot loop, you just need to re-flash the rom.

I loaded the syndacite rom about 2 weeks ago and i love it. Yesterday i started gettign this error. "twlauncher has stopped unexpectedly". I can't even get to settings. I can only pull down the the menu with the WIFI and GPS settings. any tips on how to get into settings? I keep on getting twlauncher has stopped over and over again.
If you can't open settings, try going into CWM > Advanced, and fixing permissions. Can also clear caches, and if that doesn’t work, reflash the ROM.
Actually, just curious. What happens when you try to go into settings? Does the menu come up to enter settings, does it FC when you open?
i couldn't open applications. Everytime I tried in between hitting force close it would just flash then come back and reload over and over again. I had the bright idea of pulling the battery and then it wouldn't boot at all. Had to reflash the ROM. Now need to reinstall all my apps. lol

If this happens in the future, hold down the search key and say something to search for, this should take you to the browser. Search for and download launcherpro, zeam, or another launcher you don't already have. After it installs, hit home and choose the new launcher, then you can clear data for touchwiz. This happened to me when I had one homescreen on touchwiz and it was full, and an app tried to automatically add a shortcut.

It sounds like a bad reflash though. I've had that, where it FCs so repeatedly that I can't do anything at all. When you have it all set the way you want, make a CWM Nandroid backup, and then restore that backup to turn journaling back on... then battery pulls won't affect you.

What a simple and elegant solution! This error showed up for me last night, and then completely ruined my morning. After searching countless forums and finding nothing but overly technical instructions containing so much jargon I had to search forums to figure out what the instructions meant....I nearly threw my phone up against the wall. Just before I was about to restore to factory settings, I found this thread and these instructions worked PERFECTLY!!! Does SynFro 1.1.0 clash with CWM5?
My Epic been on Bonsai 4.0.1 (CWM 3.0.0.6, ext4, golauncherex) for a long time. I used Rom manager to update CWM to 5, and to flash the ROM Syndicate Fro_fully loaded 1.1.0 . Seemed to run fine at 1st (hr or so) then while DL'ing a goLauncherex from market, the system froze. after battery pull and reboot, I had constant FC's. Booting into recovery from Rom manager lead to a generic Android recovery system (instead of CWM).
Powered off, 3 fingered into CWM, which suddenly had reverted to v3.0.0.6 . Tried to restore Bonsai, but only got error msgs ("syste.img not found. skipping restore of /system" same with data, android_secure, cache, sd-ext, etc. )
Had to triple wipe (data, cache, dalvik), reflash my bonsai rom and re-update CWM to 5 to get back to a normal functioning phone.
If the issue here seems to be conflicts between older roms clashing with newer CWM versions, is there a way to check which ROMs require which CWM?
thanks for your time.

Both SFR and bonsai are oollldddd roms. SFR froze up because it isn't journaled. I highly recommend using ODIN to get to stock EC05, then update to EL30. Then use qbking77s "How to root Samsung epic 4g gingerbread" video to get CWM and root.
CWM 5 can flash any Rom, but those roms in particular are so old and buggy.

I've got you man.
What you need to do is direct your attention to this thread right here by DRockstar: RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 BML Officially supported by ROM Manager
What you had done wrong was you installed through Rom Manager, which is a temporary flash ontop of CWM 3, it in itsellf is not CWM 5 installed. Within that thread you've a choice of an update zip of CWM 5 or a Odin tar, CWM zip is preferrable. But otherwise you should be fine. The zip from within that thread is more final.

Ok, I got the real CWM5 zip, flashed, now all roads lead to CWM5, so that part is fine. And I stopped trying those olds ROMs , tried to flash SynIce.
My Epic runs Bonsai4.0.1, I did the triple wipe and then flashed the rom (from CWM5) but I get the following:
SYN Ice Logo
"Take a shower, pick an outfit, put on some smell good, call my crew.."
then the yellow bar freezes about 15% into its progress. it eventually kicks back out to CWM. no msgs or errors to share. I dont have access to Odin (or a PC) and Heimdall wont recognize my epic....any1 having similar probs? is it my kernel? I see suggestions sometimes to use Odin to switch from "EC05" to "EL30"...i thought flashing the ROMs changed your base ROM (DK28, EL13, etc) to the one it needed....is that not the case?

[Q] Nandroid Backup -- Lots and Lots of Dots

Am trying to do a nandroid backup using Amon-Ra 2.3, and it just keeps laying down line after line of dots, taking much longer than I would expect, and never finishes. I've tried the suggestions in this thread on the issue, and I'm still having no luck.
Anyone have any suggestions/wisdom to offer? I've let it go for 20-30 minutes on a couple of occasions, and it's still not working -- I just end up with a screen full of dots.
Part of the reason I'm doing this is that I've been having issues with my wireless, data, etc toggling on and off on its own lately, so I thought a fresh start with a new ROM might be worth a go. Doubt that's related, but who knows, so I'm throwing that out there in case it matters.
Thanks!
PS Currently running VirusROM Airborne RC 6, to the extent it makes a difference.
What rom are you trying to restore?
If you wanted to start fresh, than you can install your new rom fresh, then restore all your apps+data, just not system settings.
I wasn't trying to restore anything, I was just trying to do a nandroid backup so I could flash another ROM. With that said, I've tried to restore an older backup to make sure I had one that worked, and that isn't working, either -- just an endless stream of dots. If I pull the battery in the midst of a restore, will I screw anything up?

No it shouldn't.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/PC36IMG.zip Place that on your sdcard, and flash it in the bootloader, that'll re-flash amon_ra 2.3; hopefully that should fix it.
thanks man, I'll give it a try.
Aye aye, and I shall be around if it doesn't work.
well, I'm stuck in the back end of the boot animation now. Hmmm, very frustrating. How horrible would it be to just do a factory reset of the phone? Would I have to re-root?

If you do a factory reset, that just erases all data. You should always wipe the factory/data, cache, and dalvik cache in recovery before flashing a rom for the first time. You don't have to re-root, just restore your apps from titanium backup.
OK, so here's where I'm at:
1. I can't perform a nandroid backup
2. I can't restore any of my previous backups
3. I can't boot the phone to allow me to flash the new Amon-Ra you provided.
With all of that being the case, I feel like I'm sort of out of options at this point -- maybe just wipe it and flash the new ROM, hope for the best, and perform a nandroid after the flash? Can't really get any more screwed than I am now, right?

What do you mean you can't get to the bootloader?
Power the phone off/battery pull, upon turning on, hold vol+down till you see the white android screen, then it'll scan for the PC36IMG, which you apply update, then reboot. And it can still be saved.
I guess the question was how do I get the file onto my phone when I can't get the phone to boot up, but it occurs to me that I can pull the card out and load it on there that way, so let me give that a go and follow those steps. Now, I've just got to find that little card adapter thingy...
Thanks again, appreciate the assistance
Ah yes...the adapter...tis why I just always leave it in my laptop. But that will work, and you're welcome.
that did the trick, back up and running. Whew!
Much appreciated!
Glad that it worked.
