Hi there,
My first post on this forum so bare with me Last week I got my HTC Touch HD, and I'm now for a day or two trying to get emulation of ROMS (GBA in this case) working. My favourite emulator seems to be MorphGear, due to the fact I can also emulate NES, SNES etc. on it, which I also like. The problem however is, the emulation of the GBA ROM works, although with very choppy framerate and lagging, bad sound. I've searched quite a freaking lot to find out what the problem is, and have come across some similar problems but nowhere a decent answer.
I've also read a lot about people that DID get their sound and framerate to work just well. PocketGBA is something I've also tried but it seems no option since A) it does not load the ROM, just shows a white screen (ROM is ok, works in morphgear) B) shows no D-Pad and C) I like the skins I can get for Morhpgear, they make gaming easier.
Sorry for the long post, I am really stuck now though and have fiddled around with many settings, reinstalls and tweaks. Tried different programs but it just wont do.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance!

I get the start screen but I cant get the ROMS to start, it just goes back to the start screen. Any suggestion on how to get the games to start?
Kinda related to this problem I think, but when I use smartgear and I turn off "throttle to 60 fps", it actually speeds up the games, and sometimes it crashes to the start screen.
Check settings, and play with it a little.
Yea I have been I cant figure out why it wont start.
ok I got it the application has to be in the same folder as the ROMS.
I see from your post above you got it to work... But just for future reference you don't necessarily have to have it in the same folder as the roms, did you remember to install the tgetfile program? You can find most emulator stuff related to the dash in my sig!
No i never heard of "togetfile" its just an exe. Someone mentioned in Modaco that it had to be in the same folder as the roms. I messed around with the settings and stuff, I dont really like it, the games are choppy and the control is sloppy.

You have to install TGETFile on the phone first I think... As far as choppiness though, you will find that it is more choppy with sound enabled. If you try without sound it should run a little more smoother (not perfect though). Overclocking your Dash might give some results as well. I've tried it with mine overclocked to 228-240 and it seemed to work a little better but again not perfect, so I just disable the sound and run at normal clock speed just to save battery (at least until I get a better battery, or upgrade to the HTC Snap/Maple thing - whichever comes first)
^playing an emulator with a trackball will be interesting. Mine is clocked at 252.
I do have the sound off and the screen skip set at 3. It seems to do ok.
I think you hear about FpseCE v0.10 is released.
I have WM6.5.3, but i get freeze on first (Load ROM menu)
I think start the topic for share our configs and problem solution on Touch HD.
I will update this first post, if arrive interesting things.

All right, first of all FPSEce is NOT WORKING WITH SOME ROMs, for example T2M's(maybe due to some additional programs or tweaks). Now I'm using XT GRID EVO 17B ROM(build 28014) and FPSEce runs fine for me.
Secondly, FPSEce is NOT WORKING if Showcase is installed.
About Frame Per Second... Final Fantasy runs with about 30-40 fps, Driver 2 - about 20 (really hard to play). As I know G-sencor is not currently working for all HTC devices.
I'm steel playing with setting and trying to get as much as possible.
Not working for me, what we all need is a nOOb guide.
Dont have Showcase installed and just hardreset my HD2...tryed with two different games, dont work. But then again, i dont know how the first screen should look and i find the info very confusing.
Ok, Colin Mcrae 2 worked. Runs nice but not my kinda game... If i can find any ok looking games (besides Final Fantasy) or make GranTurismo 2 work, ill make a donation next month!

hi mate,
I think u should really give up ur gaming desires with regard to touch hd, cos it's gaming porfermance is really pathetic as far as i know:
1, there isn't much games that fully works with wvga
2, our device doesn't support multitouch which is just a vital disadvantage for gaming.
and etc.
I have searched every possible aspects of gaming for blackstone device serveral months ago, and all i realised at the end is that this device sucks hard in terms of gaming....
if u don't believe me, just check out e.g. iphone's games in person, then u will know what i'm whining about...
and that's the truth..

One thing i would love would be if someone were to post their config here (i mean onscreen buttons/overlays). i just couldnt get it set up properly for the life of me. it would also save time when moving between ROMs. preferably as close to a ps1 controller as possible (or mutliple configs such as a racing (like gt) config with both analogue sticks, a fighter config (like tekken) with dpad and other buttons(not analogue sticks))
about the guy above me whining about blackstone games - there are plenty of good games if you know where to look. And when it comes to the iphone, sure it can game but once you stop playing and want to be constructive, the iphone fails miserably.
After searching the forums and installing different kernel versions and quite a few froyo roms, I have found android to run very well on my kaiser. One thing really bugs me though and would prevent me from using this as a day to day OS: All over the place there seem to be artifacts, pixels that do not belong there. It really does break the overall look and feel of the system. Does anyone have an solution for this?
Yes i did search, it might be that my phrases arent correct. I just cant seem to find an existing solution for this. It has to be a display module problem, since it happens on every single rom I tested.
Thanks in advance
Sounds like you have selected the wrong panel type in the kernel.
Kaiser's were shipped with 3 different panels over the production time, you will need to play around and see whether yours works best set as 1,2,3 with atools.
Since i dont have a linux pc available right now, i opted for a kernel that was already set to panel 2. Would be really cool if the community could upload version for all 3 types. Thanks for the pointer. I might just create 3 kernels and upload them to share.
you don't have to run a linux pc to use atools to edit kernels
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783514
Yeah i havent had time to test it, I have 2 linux machines running at home. Although this line kinda made me not test it under windows:
"If you are a stupid windows user you can't use it so don't ask!"
Thanks a bunch dude
You're reading into that too much! I would assume that since you figured out how to get Android on your Kaiser you aren't stupid. There are different kinds of windows users, stupid ones, smart ones, etc.
I'm also going to assume that because you also use linux you probably aren't the stupid windows user. I use atools on windows and it works great. Try a different LCD type, it should fix your issues (although I still get some weird artifacts with both type 2 and 3 on some kernels and type 1 never works).
Okay I managed to get the problem sorted out using atools and selecting Panel 3. Now I have a booting 2.6.32 kernel, no artifacts. Rom seems a little sluggish, but I am sure if i fiddle with the kernel enough, it should show some speed improvements. Thanks for the help guys, makes me remember why I loved this place and my htc's so much
Hello. I'm new on this forum so please don't attack me for this post.
I am a big fan of classic JRPG-s and i enjoy playing them on my HTC Desire.
The problem is that with every custom rom that has ICS or JB with which i tried to run any GBA emulator like Gameboid i have a huge problem.
The emulator works flawlessly except one big issue that i didn't have on my stock Froyo 2.2 rom or Cyanogenmod 7 2.3 rom. Whenever i press my display on two different places the emulator restarts or makes a quick load from last quick save state that i had and it makes some games unplayable. Does anyone knows what causes this or how to cure it. Can it have anything to do with kernel maybe?
I'm currently using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070704 ROM.
Btw i tried 3 maybe 4 emulators like gameboid and My boy and they all have the exactly same issue. Other games that use dual touch from market work normally.
I tried searching but i didn't find anything that could help me with the issue.
Any kind of help would be kindly appreciated.
Greetings.
In hopes of finding someone who's facing a similar problem, I'd like to ask you about a certain issue.
I've installed the Xperia Play Z Ultimate Edition rom on my Xplay r800i. It's running all cool and great, but there's one problem. The apps are closing for no reason. It's like, one moment you're playing a game, and all of a sudden the main screen appears, as if you pressed the home button, but the app is gone. It looks like they're crashing when the phone is under heavy load. It happens to literally everything. Even Messenger bubbles often disappear when there's a new heavy app starting.
I've searched the rom's thread, but didn't find any information about such problem.
If this matters, I've flashed the kernel that was supplied by rom creator - 480p DoomKernel.
This is the first rom I've seen which has an issue like that, and I don't think there's any alternative, as this is the only ICS rom I know that keeps all of Xplay's core features while significantly improving speed and functionality.
Please help. Does anyone know why this happens?
Update: out of frustration, I've changed to another ICS rom, Honami 2.1.3, together with switching to a Lupus V7 kernel (ram version)... and the same thing happens. Although with the new rom my phone's performance seems to have DRASTICALLY improved, apps are still closing for no reason. There's not even a popup or error, or anything like that - it just pulls the plug and suddenly kicks me to the main screen.
This problem renders heavy games literally UNPLAYABLE. It runs perfect for like 5 or 10 minutes, with high framerate even, then out of a sudden BAM - back to the main screen. No error, no nothing.
Browsing around Lupus settings I've found something called Low Memory Killer. From what I understand, this thing kills the apps when the device is on critically low memory. Maybe this is the cause? And if it is, why the heck is it "going rogue" and killing apps that I'm ACTIVELY USING? How do I configure this? I assume you can't just disable it...
Please help.
Seriously? No one has ANY IDEA what's happening? Please help! I literally have no clue what may be causing this.
Switched to YET ANOTHER rom and kernel - Nexplay, with bundled Lupus kernel, this time also changing the firmware to R800i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Enhanced. With this one, the phone runs definitely the fastest, but guess what... same thing happens as before. Games commit suicide when played for too long. Out of all I've tested, the only ones that don't shut down are OpenTyrian and Nes emulator. Gun Bros worked fine for like 5 minutes, and suddenly closed, working very slow for like 2 seconds before it happened. Same thing with Vendetta Online but this one outright REBOOTED THE PHONE! And these games supposedly are optimized for xplay, so it doesn't make any sense why there's such a problem going on...
I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's because I'm using ICS roms? But then, I've never seen anybody reporting such problems with ANY rom. This definitely isn't a common issue. I'm also using Link2SD, but again, I've never seen anyone mentioning it causing anything like that.
I can relate to your problem. I've experienced the same (apps randomly closing while in use) issues 1 or 2 years ago and to me the development on these roms are dead since the developers have moved onto newer devices. Currently my xperia play is dead (bricked) however with experience of using many of the roms i can safely say that ICS is not meant for the xperia play. Sony themselves didn't officially release ICS for this device due to the number of bugs and problems associated with it. I'd recommend you to use GB roms to bring out the best potential of your device. ICS lags some way or another whereas GB doesn't. All games run smooth on Gingerbread and they certainly do not have issues like ICS does. The best rom for this device is Gin2kitkat ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144 ) and my personal favourite Xperia NXT 2 r1 (i've used this rom the longest). Here's the link for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368
From experience, as long as you use a Gingerbread rom you should be good to go as they are the most stable for our device. Good luck
Aaw, that's a real bummer. The problem with GB roms is that there's a lot of ICS apps and games that I really need. One of the main reasons I've decided to unlock bootloader on this device is because I wanted to get an upgrade to ICS. It's really strange. I've seen people play advanced games on this phone (example) and there are no signs of problems such as the one I'm experiencing.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess I'll use one more ICS rom, and if that fails, I'll give GB roms a try.
Btw, what do you think about NXT Gaming rom? I don't care much about flashy UI and widgets, and as long as everything in the phone works (camera, xLoud etc.) priority for me is gaming performance, and from description, this rom seems to be the most aggresive I've seen when it comes for optimizing performance for games.
I agree, from the vid the user is seen to be running the ROM "ICS Ultimate". Also i haven't tried the NXT gaming rom only the NXT 2r1 but regardless, with that rom i've been able to play emulator games and heavy intensive games such as Fifa 2012. I'd only imagine the 'NXT Gaming rom' is faster and better but since i haven't tried it, i'm unable to give you a direct response, sorry. Anyways Gingerbread will always be the best in terms of gaming performance and functionality, but if you're able to find a good ICS rom that is smooth when playing games such as GTA then it's entirely up to you whether you want to stay on ICS or not. Also correct me if i'm wrong but i remember GTA3 (not san andreas) being playable on gingerbread.
Correct, GTA3 DOES work on Gingerbread, but unfortunately only this one and Vice City do so. GTA San Andreas and Chinatown Wars will not work on anything lower than ICS. This is an example anyway, cuz there are few more things that I need and will work only on ICS.
Anyways, guess what. I've tried YET another Rom from a portuguese site (rom is Fusion ICS 2.4), and the problem stopped - apps no longer spontaneously shut down. There's another problem though... as this system is ridiculously unstable. Sometimes it's fast as lightning, then sometimes it slows down to a crawl for no reason - it has nothing to do with active apps; it often happens with no active apps running and with tons of free ram available. It's completely random. Even the interface sometimes crashes for no reason. Curiously though, all games run extremely fast and they never shut down on their own. Unfortunately, it's not worth using such a train wreck. Games running well while the rest of the system goes haywire defeats the purpose for me.
I'd give "ICS Ultimate" rom a try, but for some reason, I get virus alerts when trying to download or open the file. I guess I'll either wait until it's confirmed false alert, or go for GB roms finally.
