I've upgraded my MDA Compact IV (Touch Diamond) with the Shine on 2.4 Full ROM.
My question is, after doing the Hard SPL and running the radio etc for this ROM upgrade and then upgrading the ROM, do I need to do a Hard SPL and radio upgrade if I wanted to use a different ROM? Or will one single HSPL and radio installation suffice for multiple ROM upgrades?
Just the once will do for both, although some radios are better than others depending on your area, network, GPS program etc. and many people experiment with different radios before settling on the best for them

Face to various ROM versions available is important identify the more reliable and stable. Please tell us your opinion.
Thank you.
I'd say try the new 1.42 T-mobile, it might have some improvements over the buggy (at least for me) 1.40 ROMs. If you want to go for sure, go with the 1.31 Orange or O2 ROM and extended rom with the 1.13 radio. It is not the latest, but very stable.
Have to agree, I have upgraded to the new t-mobile 1.42 and so far has been good (I was using the IMate 1.40 rom), also this seems faster but that could be me (I reinstalled all my software again from scratch).
I also use the 1.13 radio.
I have messed around and mixed and matched between the Orange 1.40 extended rom, and the T-mobile 1.42, I use an Orange SPV 2000 so saved me messing around trying to reconfigure all the settings for Orange.
Still suffering from the poor bluetooth headset sound issues (I use a jabra 200), but have given up all hope of improving the quality anyway.
I'm currently using the 1.40.00 O2 Asian WWE ROM, and I love it!
1.40 iMate ROM wit 1.13 Radio works great for me. I think I will give the T-Mobile 1.42 a go tonight though!
I love the i-mate 1.40 ROM... but the new T-Mobile 1.42 ROM seems to be a little bit more stable and faster so far. I'm using a cooked ROM that comes the best available from i-mate's Arabic ExtROM with T-Mobile's new patches, etc...
Maybe a stupid question...
I've used the search function, but dit not find any related article about my question.
Question:
Is it possible to install and run one of the HTC Diamond ROMs on this forum on a T-Mobile MDA Compact IV (the HTC Diamond from T-Mobile) or will this be the end of the MDA?
I read that the hardware of the MDA is the same as the Diamond, but that doesn't answer the question. Maybe someone already succeeded with installing and running a HTC Diamond ROM on the MDA.
Thanks for the answers!
I am new to flashing ROMs and have been reading the forums here to try and work out how to do it.
As far as I am aware, yes you can flash any ROM to your device. I believe you will need something called Hard SPL - and your updated ROM.
Still not sure what 'Radios' are though lol...
Yes it is possible to install htc roms on mda compact 4 because it is basically the same device, not 100% same but you can use all software from the diamond on your device. But read below the important things.
HARD SPL IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO INSTALL OTHERWISE YOU WILL BRICK / DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE. CLICK HERE FOR LINK
2ND- you can choose an updated/cooked rom. whichever you like and follow the instruction given to flash basically simillar to hard spl.
From what I can work out I need the signed Hard SPL for ROMs which have been 'checked' and unsinged for anything else.
Can anyone shed any light on why I would need to flash a 'radio'?
OK! All of the stock Roms include the radio and most of the cooked Roms include one. But the radio is the software that allows your device to function as a phone/communications device. It is the GSM/GPRS/EDGE/3G/... communicator. So you will definitely want the radio ROM. If the radio is not included in the ROM that you flash, you can always flash the radio ROM by itself afterward (or before).
So did any of you manage to flash a Diamond ROM to MDA Compact?
I'm contemplating grabbing a German MDA unit and trying to flash a Diamond WWE into it.
Any suggestions?
yes it works fine.. as long as you carefully read and follow the steps you will be fine.
My mda compact 4 works well with 1.00.25.07 radio and rom which one you use of personal preference.. need to try a few and see which one you like.
I've just applied HardSPL 1.40 and the TLR Diamond Rom v3 to my UK T-mobile MDA Compact IV, no problems at all.
Applying this seems to have increased the amount of internal main storage to the same as the Diamond. as I understand it, the difference between the Diamond and the compact IV is the internal memory (not the 4Gb).
The Compact IV has 96mb for storage and the Diamond 128mb. This shows up as more like 117mb of usable on mine now i've flashed it, up from about 85mb.
Maybe someone else can confirm there's also increased, or is it a false reading?
The compact IV and diamond are identical. Only the shape is different. The reason why mda has less storage in ram is due to the crap tmobile put on.
flashed my MDA with the latest HTC ROM .. works perfectly .. didnt checked the rom
I'm also considering upgrading my stock UK T-Mobile MDA IV rom and really the only thing I'm worried about is that once done I won't have the correct settings to connect to the internet, etc. Are these settings retained? In other words will I be able to use my phone as normal straight after upgrading the ROM and/or radio?
Those settings are the least of your worries, they can be easily re-added.
Just to clarify, I'm not talking about general internet preferences (like font size, homepage and all that) but the settings t-mobile set for the phone to connect to their network (and GPRS, SMS, 3G network settings). For instance if I go into 'Connections' in the settings it says "T-Mobile Internet...This connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified" Will these connection settings be retained after the ROM upgrade?
I also upgraded successfully my MDA with the latest HTC ROM. I used the unsigned HardSPL, with the signed one I did not manage.
After installation the phone asked me if I want to automatically reconfigure the internet access (or something like that), after that the T-Mobile Internet connection was back again. I guess this is a feature of the network/provider and it is not necessary something you need in your ROM.

The Network Connection wizard make that happend, because its in the Rom, so its very handy because its make your networks settings for you! And you can flash a new rom every day if you want
the Wizard make the settings(not your network/provider)
I'm a newbie and I've recently upgraded my HTC Cingular 8525 to the following =>
ROM = WM6.1 Touch Build 20924 V2.7
HardSPL = Ver 7
Image = Hard-SPL-2.10
IPL = 1.04 (G3 Series phone)
SPL = 2.10.01ipro
Operator version: PDAViet.net
ROM version: DVH_V27_BS
ROM date: 10/30/08co3.62.DVH.V27
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
ExtROM version: Black(Full)
HTC Hermes: HERM100
CPU: Samsung 2442A
Speed: 400 MHz
Ram size: 64MB
Flash size: 128 MB
Data bus: 32 bits
Storage size: 67.41 MB
This ROM seems to work great and is very stable and I've noticed a
dramatic improvement in my battery life and faster boot times.
I want to easily upgrade the Radio to a more recent Radio than 1.16.
What is the method of upgrading just the Radio to a recent stable Radio?
What version of the HTC Wizard Radios are recommended? I have seen
a number of posts that indicate users have Radio Version 1.47 and some
with later Radio versions. What are the advantages / risks involved in
a Radio upgrade? I assume that a newer Radio would be able to get
a better 3G signal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - John
For starters the wizard isnt a 3g phone so you wont get a better 3g signal and seeing as you have actually got a hermes if you tried flashing a wizard radio you will turn your nice cool little ppc into a paperweight SO DONT EVEN TRY FLASHING A WIZARD RADIO
Anyway radios are high risk for flashing so think carefully before upgrading the radio , you need to consider the pro's and cons of actually upgrading it.
Do you have loss of signal, keep getting disconnected or calls failing to dial, if not then why change the radio.
I am not trying to scaremonger here, but flashing just roms that have no radio is reasonably safe as 99% of the time, errors can be corrected quite easily, when a radio goes wrong it can be a completely different ball game.
Anyway if that hasnt scared you SH**less ,I have personally found that radio 1.47 is the best in my wizard, but i am in the uk and i actually have a wizard and a hermes and an orbit?
To upgrade the radio you just follow the same procedure you do with upgrading a rom ,except of course it is only the radio that is being upgraded and you dont need to reinstall everything afterwards. The O.S. is left exactly the same as before the flash.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET A HERMES RADIO if you do want to try flashing a new radio
Sources for Hermes Radio ROM Upgrades
Thanks for your reply. I was hoping for a slightly better signal in marginal reception regions and I had heard that the newer Radios have better reception.
Also with regard to Hermes Radio ROM upgrades - any suggestion on
where to find the 1.47 Hermes Radio ROM that I can upgrade?
Thanks in advance - John
If i was you i would seriously read the wiki here under hermes after you have read some of that i would try one of these that are found here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
remember what i said though there is a greater risk of bricking your device flashing a radio
Ok so i'm new to this custom rom thing but i'm kinda forced to it since I bought my Diamond in India and apparently htc doesn't offer updates on their site and I can't be bothered to go to the airtel website (wich is probably in Hindy ) and look for an update.
So I managed to update to HardSPL 1.4 using the tutorial thread (thanks btw, all worked like a charm ) and installed the radio 1.0.25.05 (according to the same thread the recommended version)
So now i'm seeing many roms out there and have absolutely no clue wich rom to choose.
Maybe some advice ?
Here is my wishlist/stuff that matters
I'm based in Holland, so i'm bound to end up with one of the major providers here and gonna go for some hsdpa contract.
I'd love my HTC to be faster
I like the msn thing, but it's not required.
I don't want to be running beta/buggy softwares, my pc runs that kind of softwares, not my phone
Also i've seen (after installing the radio rom) that in a different thread there is a lot more different radio roms, with people liking the some better than the one reccommended in the tutorial post, is there a better rom and should I use it ? (better gps, faster, less batt usage ?)
Best are 1.93 rom for the "fast" part you asked but it's getting old (like 6 or 8month i guess). After you will want to go for a 2.03 rom which provides you more functionalities.
I will advise you Hikari rom, udK Syrius Topaz or Shaks or nataly. These are the rom I try every time there is a new release, I change rom every 1 or 2week so better is you check yourself.
You must have HardSPL unsigned edition for some of these rom, it's the same procedure as 1.4 SPL.
BTW, you know you can upgrade directly from your internal storage?
just put your nbh file in your storage card with the name "diamimg.nbh" (stands for Diamond Image) then reset while pressing VOL_DOWN + BACK (the button up from the hang up button). After this, you will see a HardSPL like screen (red blue green) then a gray~light blue screen asking to press the power button to upgrade.
You can do this for radio, spl and rom. It's quicker, safer and better IMO.

Hi all
I ve searching for rom already for 2 weeks. I bought used diamond which came with cooked rom which I think was most stable rom, I flashed my dm many times to get my gps working but nothing helped I tryied official roms, cooked roms with different radios but cant find suitable (always flashed with mtty to avoid problems). please help me to find rom In which gps will work, will have integrated g-config, ezinput, manila 2.1 (not colored taskbar), and will be STABLE. Sorry for my english and thx for help
hspl 1.93 olynex
radio 1.09.25.23
The only rom which is close to original rom is satus rom below but it has some annoying bugs which roms are like this but fewer bugs ?
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559928
problems not the ROM's, its more likely to be your Radio.
Install a newer Radio from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470306
I tryed many roms with different radios but GPS is not working. I ve tested radios 1.09.25.23 and 1.11.25.01. Even with official rom and official hot fixes from htc, also with htc gps tool and cold start but nothing ...
Considering you did try everything concerning radio and rom, i get the feeling you might have a hardware failure. I've had some GPS problems on various devices but was always able to solve them with the HTC GPS tool.
When and how did your GPS stopped working?
when I bought it gps was not working It came with hspl 1.40 olinex unsigned, and wm6.5. I even tryed garmiin 4 and tom tom 6 without results
i've got the same hspl as you with a wm 6.5 rom on it and a rather old radio (1.13.25.24). No problems using GPS in Googlemaps and TTNavigator (7.916.9189)
Lemme know if you wanna try any of them, can upload them for you.
Have you downloaded QGPS data?

Install htc gps tool =>change mode to cold start
go outside and run google maps.
