I received a free replacement battery from T Mobile in january for my MDA Compact lll. But ever since the first full charge of the new battery, the phone still goes to zero battery power in less than 24 hours, even on standby and no use. Today, with battery freshly charged at 100%, I turned off Bluetooth, Beam and quit all running programs.
3 hours later the battery was at 88% not having used it at all, just standby. Another hour and 20 minutes later it's down to 79%! That means it's losing 20% every 4 hours or so while doing nothing. This is ridiculous, it's not even close to what the standby time is meant to be, which is somewhere over 150 hours. What am I supposed to do, would a hard reset do anything?
hav u overclocked ur processor??????
Try the phone in flightmode check the usage then.. Maybe try to update the radio rom of t-mobile website..

Nope. And I'm using the WM5 Rom as it came with the phone from T Mobile.
I've never tried flashing a new rom or overclocking the cpu.

What's flightmode and how do I find it? The radio rom? I don't even use the radio
Can anyone else help please?
Go download BatteryStatus plugin and under its settings have it display your power drain and cpu usage.
fubofo, did that, it gave me 201MHz.
Anyway, I had a breakthrough. I backed up everything to my hard drive then did a hard reset. I removed my 2GB storage card and rebooted the MDA. So now it's barebones. The battery life is awesome now. It has only gone down 15% in 19 hours on standby, which means it's definitely capable of lasting a few days.
Now I have to figure out what exactly was draining it, either a program that was on the device, or something on the storage card.

or maybe THE STORAGE CARD?

Good point. It's a sandisk 2GB. Are they known for causing battery drain?
I'm still lost on this one.
Well, it's not the storage card. After restoring my backup and replacing the storage, the battery life started depleting rapidly again. I removed the storage card, and battery still bombing. I started removing programs one by one until I was down to 2 programs, TCPMP ( used for viewing youtube videos) and Opera. I can't see that those would affect anything, and they weren't running anyway. All running programs were closed down, bluetooth off, I mean wtf, there were no programs running and the battery is going down fast. What the hell could be depleting the battery when no programs are running? Yet the battery is fine after a hard reset but before I restore my backup!
Hi all,
I installed the ARHD rom yesterday and it is amazing! Truly great
I have just one small question, that I hope I can find the answer to in here: Ever since I installed this rom, my baterry just drains like mad. I assumed that installing this rom would just make my battery life better, but unfortunately not. I am a frequent Whatsapp user and I know that it drains battery, but I lose around 12% power each half hour! If I don't use Whatsapp and just use my DHD in a normal way, I still lose over 6 or 7% each half hour. That can't be right I guess?
Does anyone have any tips for me, to make my battery life better? I really don't want to uninstall this rom, cause it's simply amazing! Only my battery is just killing it at the moment. Even worse than the stock rom that was on it from the store.
I thank you in advance for your patience with me and for answering my question
Edit: I added a SS of my software information
Boot into clockworkmod go into advanced section and choose 'wipe battery stats'. This will start to give you a more accurate account of your battery life. I have read in many places that this should be done every time you switch roms. It's suggested to charge the unit fully before wiping battery stats. This has helped me when switching to various roms.
Agreed, you should recalibrate your battery after flashing a new ROM. Loads of good battery info in this thread.
Also, for me, battery life on ARHD 5.1.11 is amazing when WiFi is turned off, but uses a lot more when I'm connected to a WiFi network. Not sure why, but I'm not too bothered because I can just plug it in when I'm at home on the WiFi
Confirmed ... my DHD bat life is GREAT !! since 5.1.11 ;D
Ok guys...Thanks for the response. So charge it fully, wipe battery stats and things should go better? Sorry if I wel stupid questions. I'm a n00b in here :-D
Regards
My phone's battery drains really fast (didn't had this before)
Well I found these steps:
1. Fully drain your battery, play some games, music, etc.. NO PORN!!
2. Let your battery cool for atleast 2 minutes
3. Restart phone to remove residual charge( it will boot only halfway)
4. After the phone shuts down remove battery and let it cool for atleast 2 minutes.
5. Re insert battery and charge your phone in OFF mode.
6. After the phone reaches 100% charge boot into recovery (Power+Home+Volume_up button)then go int o clowckword recovery by applying skingt1980 zip
7. choose advance option .
8. Wipe battery stats
9. Press Power/Back and Reboot your phone
10. Wait till the phone reaches 100% charge and disconnect charger
11. Have a happy battery life !!!!!!!
Question is: is this safe to do without any hard bricking etc ...

It's safe...i don't think battery problems can cause hard bricking....although you need to follow each step carefully to ensure your battery dosen't screw up....

You cant brick your phone calibrating battery! Just don't do it over and over again cuz then you'll have to replace your battery.

Ok thnx will try it out tommorow
that's safe but useless. battery calibration only useful for smart battery, like the one on notebook, but not for dumb battery, like the one in cellphone. smart battery keep battery statistic so it can provide you data like :
- how much electric charge saved in last charge and how much average power usage so you know how much time left before you need recharge
- how much actual battery capacity and initial capacity so you know when to buy new battery
cellphone don't have (and don't need) that features because it's using dumb battery. battery meter in status bar not actually represents the electric charge in battery, but electric voltage of battery.
battery stat in android phone only record power usage for every running process and don't know at all about battery capacity. and you don't need to wipe manually, it's reset every time you fully charge your phone.
That's mean no need overclock.
I don't think it safe

calibrating battery means we will delete some file inside /data partition. it doesn't related to the battery itself. its save, but useless. there's no proof that this method will increase our battery life.
Its completely useless.
It deals with batterystats.bin file in the data/system/ directory
and as a google engineer puts it..

This file is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings.

hello guys...i have an amazing device which is note 2
in setting there is a security tab.. right??
oki when i click on it..there is encrypt device...and sd card too.
but when i click on it..it says..charge your battery to min 80 % oki my battery is 100 and charger iis plugged in.
even on full battery i cant encrypt it. why?
btw im running stoch firmware and kernel.
device is rooted.
could anybody help me?
thx in advance
It suggest that you have a fully charged battery because the process of encrypting your entire device including the SD card can take a few hours and drain a lot of battery juice.
Hey dude i think you didnt read me post carefully..i said that it is fullly carged and 100.
But even on plugged in charger and battery 100..i cant click on the encrypt button..but why?
Thx for your fast reply.
You can encrypt even at 1% battery. You just need to set your lockscreen to "Password (High security)". Now you can encrypt your device and sd memory card. After reboot you will force to use password lockscreen. But you can change it to Patter lock (my favorite) or any other you like. You need to use this app to change your lockscreen in Encrypted device.

Maybe is battery wrong.
There may be a hardware issue. Did you bring it to the Samsung service? You might get a replacement...
