I know there is a post from duanes that supposedly walks you through changing drivers in vista to the earlier "xp" drivers. first of all it says "follow steps 3 and 4." THERE ARE NOT ANY STEPS 3 OR 4!!! also the attached file from rapidshare is not correct. in his instructions he says to extract the files. there is nothing to extract after the file is downloaded. any help on this would be so much appreciated. i am getting tired of my vogue and need a change. Thanks in advance!!!
would someone be willing to walk me through these steps in an easier way to understand??? i am running 32 bit vista
the link to duanes instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313001
I'm having no problems. Make sure you're using WinRAR (rarlabs.com , IIRC) to extract the file. If you want, I can re-archive the files into a ZIP file for you.
oh man that would be awesome. thanks so much!
ok so i got the files to extract using winrar or what not. now i can't seem to get my phone into bootloader mode. i'm holding camera+power+reset and nothing happens. am i doing something wrong? also when i go to computer manager and get into device manager "mobile devices" is not there. any help would be awesome, thanks
Make sure you are hitting all the buttons, maybe your finger is slipping off one. Also, be sure you're pushing the stylus in the right hole for the reset button. One time I accidentally let customizations run because I was trying to poke the stylus in the microphone hole.
As for device manager, make sure the phone is plugged in when you look, and make sure it connected. Stuff only shows up when it's plugged in. Also, go to 'view','show hidden devices'. Something might have set the device to hidden.
I have flashed several of NFSFAN's ROM with Vista with no issues. It shouldn't be any differnet that using XP. As long as you are connected to WMDC.
wait, so you have flashed roms without changing anything in vista? i tried to flash the 6.1 stock sprint rom back in the day and it locked up my vogue. thats why i am very weary of even messin with vista. so should the phone be on or off when i attempt to put the phone in bootloader mode? aaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!! i would like to think i'm not a noob but everything i try to do is actin different than all other posts that are reporting. HELP PLEASE!!! you all have been great so far!

All I do is simply let WMDC recognize my phone & run the ROM Update Utility. It is either going to work or not. When your phone goes to the boot loader mode from running the Rom Update Utility WMDC disconnects & other drivers take over.
If you are that paranoid than flash your Rom via the SD card.
ok so i am gonna give up on flashing from vista i guess. i have attempted to flash from the sd card. i'm using a 512mb card that is formatted to FAT32. i have read that you can use imcokeman's unlocker to unlock through the sd card. have extracted the files and renamed the .nbh file to VOGUIMG.nbh and put the phone in bootloader. it is getting stuck at the grey loading screen. does anybody have suggestions for what to do now? has this happened to anybody else? PLEASE HELP!!

I run Vista as well and always use the ROM Update Utility. It forces my phone into bootloader mode and everything else is pretty much automatic.
i have always flashed my phone from vista, never used any other version of windows, just started cooking my own roms a few weeks ago and no problem at all.
I'm on Win 7 Ultimate (Tech Beta tester, just got our copies on the 6th) and it works nice and smooth here.
I used to do some minor ROM work on my old i730 and i760 from Samsung under Vista though and it always went smooth.
i have seen a problem with alot of heros and mine, to do with when it is connected to computer the drop down menu doesn't appear for sync or mount sd card. i have tried everything and nothing works, the only way you can connect to pc is through fastboot i've tried to -
- checked enable debugging
- update my recovery (thought it was a bad flash)
- reflash radio roms (thought it was a bad flash because someone else had this problem)
- updated hboot
- updated roms
- tried a few different usb cables
- drivers up to date and reinstalled ( mojos post) edit
anyone know what i could do to totally wipe my phone and start again? like original radio, rom, hboot, recovery. thanks in advance for help, i know quiet a few people could do with the help.
Solution found!
i dont know how it worked but it did,
- i installed a 2.1 eris rom which got things rolling on the phone
- installed the new htc sync that was taken from the legend in this post! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653351
- returned back to madaco 3.2 and works perfectly!
Try re-installing the drivers on your computer.
hmm maybe a stupid and too simple suggestion, but are you using any kind of task killer app ? try ignoring the pc sync process,
worked for me,
regards Wouter

Install an RUU.

Sparra, i'm having this problem also. Extended discussions have been happening on Modaco too.
foxmeister: you can't instal an RUU if you can't get the phone connected via USB
thanks people, going to try killing pc sync task dont think it will work though maybe will, yeah cant install ruu because phone doesnt connect to computer if you look at OP.
i had the same problem with my phone, had to send it in for repair as even after flashing the RUU update in fastboot i couldnt get anything

there is a thing call micro sd card reader.
before ur phone crash do u did a nandroid backup? if u do pls try restore to the previous one =)
i would of done this but my original nandroid backup was lost!! , wonder if anyone elese has an original unbranded nandroid backup? would be good to try.
From what I can see, you CAN flash roms (updated recovery/hboot etc). ADB is working?
My guess is that you're using one of the Eclair based roms, in which usb-pc didn't work.
Try downloading mountusb from the market.
Yeah sorry i can flash roms through recovery, but no adb, computer doesn't recognise the phone.
I can connect in fastboot and all works to pc in that, I have modaco 3.1 and have used all versions of his Rom, problems started around version 2.5 or so.
Ive also tried mount usb! Might have to send back to htc!
If you put your phone into fastboot and connect, can you then run an RUU against it?
Regards,
Dave
Try another computer and see if it works
If your doing this at work, a lot of companies stop the USB ports from working.
Tried another computer and doing the ruu in fastboot, its my home pc so all usb ports work, ok pretty sure its the phones software and not a hardware problem! Thanks for suggestions!
Yeah. It's a software issue, as you can use the HEROIMG.ZIP method (search here or modaco) from the microSD when you hold vol.down + power. You also get normal fastboot. So no hardware is broken
But... Nothing I've seen mentioned can fix it. Flashing seems to do nothing. I guess there is some NAND somewhere that needs a wipe/reflash (probably the same NAND that stuff like the IMEI is stored in, but that's just a guess at the architecture). If we could find the NAND, we could compare a dump between a broken and working phone and see...

it doesn't see it or says "no drivers found"
which os are you using
i can charge and usb mount even without drivers ...
It doesn't know what it is so doesn't install correctly. It's Windows 7 I don't have an issue with the druvers it worked fine before.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/h...om/300825/usb-device-not-recognized-solution/ on modaco. It's worth a shot, but bear in mind I think it will wipe /data. Might be hard to do a nandroid before though with no SD (as many people experience with this issue)
Well, I have the same problem with my hero and I have original rom, my hero isn't even rooted...
Hey..
I just installed Paul's version of the cyanogen mod, which i downloaded from the MoDaCo website, but now my phone isn't working properly.
(android . modaco . com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307607/01-may-5-0-6-test-r1-cyanogenmod-5-for-desire-online-kitchen/)
It boots just fine, but it doesn't recognize that i have a Micro-SD card and a SIM Card installed, and both my phone and my PC do not react when i plug in the USB cable. I have also tried going into recovery mode and run the .bat to get up the menu, but it just says "error: device not found"
Please help me, i am at a loss.
The nex-desire rom on here is based on cm and works just fine. Go with that instead?
I would love to try another ROM, or even just going back to factory settings, but how do i do that when my phone doesn't think that my SD card is installed and i can't connect it to my PC? :/
I have a nandroid backup image on my PC, by the way, if that helps
Boot phone into recovery and flash a different rom update .zip like the nex desire one from here.
i just don't see how i can
1. put a new ROM on my SD card when the USB connection doesn't work
2. get into recovery mode when the adb can't find my device.. i can get to the phone with the red warning triangle on it, but since adb can't find my device i cannot get the menu up
Thanks for replying, though!

To get an new ROM on SD card you can use a card reader.. This will solve half of your problem..
Sorry, I am not a tech person so I don't know how to get adb to recognize in such case..
Try to get Paul's answer in the Modaco Desire forum (you probably already tried).
Oh, one more idea, did you try to perform a factory reset from the settings/privacy menu?
Good luck.

All the stores are closed today, so i will have to wait until tomorrow to try with a card reader, since I don't own a micro-SD to SD adapter..
I tried doing a factory reset, but that just reloaded the cyanogen rom, as i expected..
Thanks for trying to help
Anyone have any other ideas while i wait for the stores to open? :>
EDIT: I just tried plugging in my old SIM Card from my old phone, and I am getting a signal on that.. is the new SIM Card toast?

Hello,
i've got a problem like the title says. Everytime i connect my phone to the computer via usb, i get the message the device wasnt recognized by the computer. i tried everything i know, another usbport. etc. i want to install a new radio, but without connecting to the computer it isnt possible, because i dont have the usb debugging active.
i hope someone has an idea what i can do. i have rcmix 6.1.0.1 installed.
Are you using Windoze?
If you are unfortunate enough to be doing so then you might need to reinstall HTC Sync program (sometimes it works better if you completely uninstall it first including manually removing any left over folders and files in the application data folder.
thanks for the quick answer.
i tried it, but it didnt help. where is this application data folder? do you mean on the computer? i found after uninstalling no more folders from htc.
and yes i use windows home premium 64bit.
got another idea? now it says also the device does not function properly. i hope that nothing on the device is broken.

yes he is talking about your computer... if in the "program files" you hasn´t anythink about HTC SYNC,, ALL IS OK...
but enssure that in the configuration panel-system-dispositive administrator you hasn´t any drive installed for your android device... if you have installed it, erase or uninstall it before re-install htc sync or the htc drivers....then you can re-install and reboot windoux...
and hey buddy!I recommend to you to consider to pass to linux, you will not have this type of mistakes... LOL
UBUNTU is great!
I'm afraid I don't know much about Windoze but memory serving appication data is a hidden folder so you will need to change it to view them and is in the Documents and Settings / [Your username] directory.
Device not function is just a default Windoze error when it can't install something, ignore it, your phone is fine.
If you have reinstalled HTC Sync, try a USB port on the opposite side of the PC. So if you trying ones next to each other on the front, try ones on the back (they use different headers on the motherboard).
If that doesn't work then I'm afraid I probably won't be of much more use, sorry.

I've got the same problem with 2 different PCs, one with Win7 64-bit, the other with Win XP PRO.
Other devices work fine with the same USB ports, so i doubt it's windows or the PC...

you can´t flash any radio if your phone is not recognized
well.. Let's continue with the problem in question...
1.At some time could you have connected it?with the stock rom maybe?
2.have you tried to swich on mass storage usb mode?what´s the result?
3.when you tries to swich the phone for flash some radio you enables "usb debug"
and "only chargue"?
its a weird problem
Hey man, I've had the same problem with my old Desire (normal). Which was actually broken.. Went back to the store twice and it was sent to htc twice. But that one wasn't rooted tho. But in the end, the sensors were broken & something inside the phone that didn't recon the pc. But also try a full wipe, which helped temporarily for me.
1. yes i functioned, not only with stock rom, but also with the next few custom roms. but then 2 weeks ago the problem occured and i dont know why. before i used custom roms for months.
2. it also doesnt recognize the mass storage anymore, i dont see the memorycard as a storage device in explorer.
3. yes i turned usb debugging on and connected charging only, i flashed radios before. but the problem with the actual is, that my signalstrength is weak and so i wanted to flash the recommended for this rom, and so i recognized there is something wrong, cause my problem here occured.
normally i sync with myphoneexplorer so i didnt realize that mass storage didnt function anymore.
and because earlier i got no problems, i think more and more, that something on the phone went wrong.
maybe it helps if i go back to stockrom and undo all changes i made, to start all over again?
again thanks mate for your effort to help me out

you´re welcome companion
i reded in a spanish forum ( www.htcmania.es ) about your problem and there´s people that had the same problem with a S.GALAXY S & desire HD...
someone was solved it fullwiping and formating (in the paragraph of mounts & storage into CWM) and flashing another ROM... then they formatted their sd card with a card reader OF THE PC... later they was formatted the sd card from the pc and the problem was disapeared successfully...
BUT if it persists i think that you should (mi suggestion) send your machine to the thecnical service....

Hello guys!
I am noob right now. I just bought an used rhodium100 and I am trying to install a new rom on it. It has a different language, one that I do not understand.
So I read and read, and I download HardSPL app, RUU, and I wanna get it going when I realize that my phone is not recognized by my computer, nor by a laptop of a friend (both using windows 7). So my question is:
Can it be something wrong software wise that does not allow to connect to the PC or is a hardware thing for sure?

Are you plugging it in while in bootloader mode, or while in WinMo? Bootloader mode = tri-color screen where you flash.
Honestly, I would flash via SD. Much easier, no need to worry about drivers or any of that nonsense.
Thanks dude for that quick response.
I tried in both ways. As I said, I tried not to be a complete total noob and I read and read.
I tried to flash it via SD card, but I guess the previous owner did not HardSPL it, so when I reboot it in bootloader, it just goes to the screen "Loading..." and it freezes. I've let it over night but it just drained the battery and no progress.
Any other idea?

You should be able to HSPL from the SD. You just can't revert HSPL from SD.
Also, you can tell at the tri-color screen if it's unlocked or not - if you see anything about OliNix, it's unlocked.
well, there was nothing about olinix. So it's not unlocked. Can you tell me how to HSPL it from the sd? Can I then install the ROM via sd card? I do not need to revert the spl.

It's on that thread. You basically flash HSPL with SD. I could be mistaken, and you can only relock with SD? I can't remember. If I recall correctly, you can only go one-way with flashing via SD....

Sorry for my dumb joke
I do not have any clue how to fix your problem, it might be a software related, a cable issue or even the MB/connector could fail.
You could translate the rom using a cab file, but this isn't easy and requires a lot of resources and knowledge.

XDAndroid is completely different. Please don't mix issues here - Android questions go in Android section, preferably in the build thread you're using. That probably does rule out a hardware issue with the USB port on the phone tho.
I would ensure that you guys have the right setup for flashing. Make sure you try different USB ports, different cables, etc. Triage.

I understand that. I just said that the connectors are OK. Working. If android can connect so should original ROM load, or at least that's what I think it should.
I just hate that neither in active synch nor in bootloader mode can't connect it. Is there any program that facilitates the connection?
