I think it is important that all people testing this rom have the best radio suited to it.
This would eliminate some of the connection issues people are clogging the forum with. Several reported user issues have been due to them using old RADIO versions that don't work well with WM6.
We need to bug fix the ROM, connection problems are more likely to be RADIO related than ROM related.
Kyphur has asked me to start a poll asking:
SHOULD THE BEST WORKING RADIO BE BUNDLED WITH THE NEXT XDA LIVE RELEASE? v0.30
What do you think?
Dumb question, but is there any "easy" way to downgrade the radio if the device needs to be sent in for warranty?
I still say no, thw whole point behind cooking ROMs is customisation, the only thing Kyphur will have to concentrate on is the OS making it better than if he had to work on radio aswell, also what happens to use people who have a new version of the radio (1.35.00.11 for example) do we have to downgrade?!
Any radio problems can be narrowed down to just the individual radio versions and not blamed on Kyphur aswell!?
I say we mix and match our OS/ExtROM/Radio etc... as we like and let Kyphur get on with developing this (already brilliant) ROM.
I think people should install the Radio ROM they prefer, not be forced into an update if it's not necessary.
Now, if we could just crack that ExtROM...

Fair points!
How about just a RADIO recommendation from Kyphur then? You're right, lets not add extra workload, just make a suggestion as to which radio instead?
Users can then make their own minds up as you suggest.

A radio recommendation would be a good idea, like at the moment I gather from numerous posts radio 1.27 and hihger would be the preferred to use.
(P.s: sorry I read my last post, looked kinda forcefull)
(not a noob but not an expert :s)
what is the best radio to use tho? hehe
if i go to the wiki page download the 1.35.00.11 Download note: GPS Enabled!
run it
(same installer as for the rom)
and i go for it?
will it change anything to the current config?
thx a Lot

Test a few and find which one works best for you... It's amazing how little people are willing to experiment.
(I guess I was asking a lot of questions regarding ROM building, but that's something that could seriously screw a phone if you're not careful and I can't afford another Hermes right now!)

I agree. Just recommend a min version and leave the ROM with OS only.
I can think of 2 more reasons for not bundling the radio, further to what has been said above:
1) you avoid making the upgrade process process longer and
2)if people have a preference for a particular radio (different than what is bundled), they would need to reflash their radio every time they upgrade the ROM from 0.3 to 0.4 and to 0.5, ...,etc.

Why experiment when u got all this knowledge grouped in a forum,
not knowing if u might brick ur phone or not
IMHO radio should not be included with xda-live distribution. If flash fails while flashing OS or splash screens, nothing happens to the device, but if flash fails when flashing radio device is more dificult to unbrick.
I think the user should choose which radio he wants to have, and we do provide ways of upgrading only the radio.
An emphatic NO - don't include a radio.
1. One of the original ideas of this rom was to provide a stable OS with as few add-ons as possible.
2. This WIKI and forum encourages and helps us to learn about our phones, make informed judgements and customise to suit ourselves. OS, software, use, location etc are all user specific. What works for you doesn't work always for me.
3. There is already a suggestion of US and Rest of World roms to fix localised problems (PTT vs video). Does Kyphur then have to release these versions with & without his (our) chosen radio? Do each of these 4 roms also have to be released with & without Adobe? (now 8 roms)... etc, etc...
4. I travel all over the world with my job and I notice a good radio in UK doesn't work so well in China, Brazil, US etc. Which radio should I vote for? Or should we release the above rom versions with every available radio?
5. If we get Kyphur and the development team to embed a radio what's our next collective request?
6. Having everything done for me takes the fun out of having a Hermes - If I want to just wait for someone to solve my problem I might as well wait for Vodafone or HTC to release an update.
7. We already see loads of questions/complaints/comments about the few apps which are embedded in WMXL so the dev. team are now acting as tech support instead of developing more stuff for us to play with. If they get bored with this role they may stop - then who do we turn to for the next release of WMXL?
So, instead of including a radio I would prefer to see a WIKI which tells us how better to analyse the radio we have and maybe to compare the available radios for reception, data, country of use etc.
If Kyphur doesn't mind all the extra work and can release all the different versions then fine, but I'd rather let him work on a stable OS first.
Only my ideas, I'm sure others will disagree
Adding a Raido will add to the argument as to which is best? There are plenty of installs to do yourself. If you got the balls to do a ROM upgrade then download and install the Radio RUU of your choice before or after as you like.
I agree

I agree, a list would be better, obviously if you are looking at GPS (here here)
you would need a different radio.
kudos to the gurus!
Because different Radio Roms work better in different regions of the world and even with different OS Roms.
That is a lesson learned the hard way from Wizard & AKU 3.x. Ironically T-Mobile NL 2.19 Radio never missed a call with AKU 3.x or WM6 but Cingular's 2.25 Radio was a dog in the Chicago area!
Personally, I would stay away from any of the Trinity GPS enabled Radio Roms (end in .x1) because they just add yet another element into the mix and the goal of this project is stable WM6 not GPS..

That will be BIG NO for me to include radio. As said in previous posts, there are various radios out there and depending on where you are will get different results. Recommending which radio worked well for you at your location with x version of ROM is the best thing in my mine.
I am currently using 1.27 and it seems to work well for me and I won't change until I see a reason to do so (e.g. feature, service, etc...). So I definitely would not want to be force into another radio (although I can just extract the OS and flash with TTY).

We will not post a Radio ROM that is untested; at least I hope no XDA member would. So unless you screw it up it wont brick your device.
a wiki page is a better idea
I think that a sub page of the wiki special for the radio rom is the best solution...
Everybody can add their experience with any version of the radio rom...
A fool proof installer sounds a very very good idea for me!!
Is it possible to return to your original radio rom (or dump it) Radio rom 1.13??
Why dont you have the option for 0.3 with and without the radio rom. Before I put 0.1 on my hermes, I had 1.34 for my radio rom. I am going to attempt to get gps working soon, so before I upgarded to 0.1, I flashed my radio.
I think a lot of people that are holding out for a later version of WXML may be in the same problem that I had, that is, not having the latest radio rom.
Radios? We don't need no stinking radios! Sorry I couldn't resist...
Seriously, pof and the rest are right. Radio selection is highly variable based on location and carrier. Let the end user decide. Having said that, knowing the radios and locations/carriers that the ROM was tested in could be useful information.

I've been reading up on the cooked ROMs that people are using, and it seems that they are using an older version (1.48) instead of the released ROM from AT&T (1.54). Is there a reason for this?
The reason I ask is because i want/need a cooked ROM using the storage saver cab from tadzio.
I also like the looks of vp3G's WM6 v3.0 ROM, but it also uses the older ROM (1.40.30.00) instead of the AT&T version (1.54.07.00) I know this has to do with the radio and since I am using the 1.54 I have noticed a HUGE difference in signal gain... which is why I want to keep that.
So my question is, has anyone cooked up a ROM that uses the lates AT&T released version with vp3G's 3.0? And also, why do people use the older versions still?
There are many parts to a "ROM". The two parts you are probably talking about are the OS and the Radio. Most ROMs now are just OS ROMs - they don't change your Radio ROM. The best Radio is not necessarily the most recent one, so ROM cooks like to let people decide for themselves if they want to update their Radio or not.
Also, most unrecoverable bricks happen when flashing new Radio ROMs, so many people who don't have problems with reception or battery life (like me) don't bother to update their Radios.
If you want a certain OS with a certain Radio, you can use Dutty's Good NBH Tool. It is good. With that tool you can choose the OS, Radio, and other parts of your ROM before you flash it. Just download the OS you want, the Radio you want, use the tool to extract both and meld them together into a new ROM.
Happy flashing - and if you haven't already be sure to read Mr. Vanx's upgrade guide and flash Hard-SPL before you do anything else!
See, Im glad that I posted because I did not realize that there were two parts and that most ROMs nowadays are just opperating ROMs... so thats for that tidbit.
Alright, now I just have to go fishing for the OS that best fits me. I know that I want the storage/space saver and the updated BT and camera features. I also see that a lot of people are getting the WM6.1 so I'll have to check that out. Im going to have to spend a lot of time going throuh each and everyone.
Thanks again.
also, the os only roms WONT change your radio so you can find a rom you like that doesnt include the radio part of the rom and safely flash your os. you will keep whatever radio rom you currently have installed. so if you have the radio you like you can pick just about any cooked rom on this forum and still keep your updated radio (make sure its for the hermes though). happy upgrading. by the way, make sure you hard spl your phone 1st thing so if something does go wrong during flashing you migh recover it easier than if you dont. i suggest doing some reading 1st. cheers.
I just updated my at&t 8525 and well i got the i guess official rom its kinda laggy on my phone which is alright but ive uploaded some programs on it and i got my sms threaded which im loving just wondering what would be a good rom for it and would it be the same affect as me updating the official one so i dont brick my phone and mess it up cause there too much to be getting a new one thanks in advance for any help
If you want one that is simple, safe, and made for at&t, you should go with VP3Gs last rom. Its nice, and stable.

Ya, and its always people with the 8525 lol.
I would use Binkys or MRH if I were you, thats what I use on my 8525. But in reality with SPB Mobile Shell you can use almost any ROM which is what im doing now.

While they are VERY good roms, if you're up for manually inputting Data, SMS settins, and tweaking a few other things, the new 6.1 roms FLY.

We were all noobs at one time. You need to read this first:

It explains everything you need to know to flash ROM's. Then you will need to flash many different ROM's and see which one has what you want. No ROM is the same, and everybody wants something a little different.
Hmmm

I havent tried the new ROM that he just posted but I flashed his rom on the 17th of June and it was SLOOOOW... I mean really slow - boot menu etc and it also sucked the battery down fast w.o WIFI and BT on. Really buggy for me. So, I switched back to a Schaps win 6.0 Rom - stable for now. But if you say this new one works pretty good and is stable, I will give it another shot.
Also, I cannot find out how to fix my QUERTY effin Keyboard. The blue buttons are all effed up - i.e. @ is ? etc... I have seen people talk about this encounter, but I do not know how to fix it. Has this happened to you at all? If so, do you know how to fix it?
so if i get one of these other roms i gotta flash it is there not any already on here made for the 8525 thats already flashed for cingular i mean im not getting this

With his rom there is a utility that lets you change the keyboard settings. It's called Advanced Config or something like that.

Remember most importantly step 1 is to use HARDSPL V7 this will prevent your mobile phone becomming a brick. You can find details about flashing and hardspl in MRVANX's sticky at the top of this forum.
Good luck .. become an expert and give back to the community.

so is there any unofficial roms out there that are faster and stable then then official one that is already flashed i mean what do i have to do just explain it to me i gave up a iphone for this and its alot better but iw anna make it faster
Ok
Step 1 : Read Mrvanx guide on how to HARDSPL your phone (and do it)
Step 2 : Load CRC's V11 rom
Step 3 : Enjoy
You will have to read MRvanx post
You will have to read CRC's post
Its all there so no one will repeat it here for you.
Heres the Link to Mr Vanx to start you off

You do need to put in some effort.
Sorry to bother you, I'm sure this info is somewhere (or if I understood it a bit better), but if someone could clear a few things up:
1) Have downloaded Hard-SPL 1.23, 1.34 and the latest version - is the newer better/more stable? Or I do have to use the one that matches the ROM I am flashing to?
2) If I want to do a cooked a ROM, will any of the versions of Hard-SPL listed above work for that too?
3) Is there an easy way to back up operator settings (internet, voice mail number etc?) Just got it so there's nothing else on it that needs backing up.
4) Offical ROMs are in .exe format, can I just install them on to my XDA?
Edit: Found the official ROMs, just required looking through several pages (sorry). Can anyone answer the other questions, especially how to back-up network settings.
For the mo I just want to get rid of the O2 branding.
Thanks for your time - have been a mod on several forums and I know you end up having to answer questions 20 times over.
Cheers,
Joe
Regarding Hard SPL, read here fully and carefully. It will tell you all you need to know.
With regards to ROMs, you could use the official ones but you will find AZTOR ROMs far superior. (AZTOR = Alpha Zero Tweaked Official ROM) or alternatively Shaks.P ROM in my signature which is set up for the UK. Both will automatically detect your network and use the correct settings and both are as stable as the original ROMs but with improved performance
I have a UK o2 xda ignito, and the only hard spl I have used is 1.93 from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400950
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=101134&d=1216793074
Most of the modded roms can be flashed with the included utilities. But most of the official 2.03 roms can only be flashed from internal storage.
Any info you need can be found with the search function, with a little time.
All the best.

Responding To Questions:
1) It doesn't have to match your original SPL...if the one you have downloaded works then use it. Very few chefs recommend a specific Hard SPL with there ROM. But this is so rare.
2) if you want to flash a unsigned ROM then you need a developers edition Hards SPL.....or jocky's works as well....I personally use 1.93 so I recommend that one.
3) don't worry about backing up operators settings.....most of these roms come with a "Connection Setup" which allows you to select from a list of operators and it does everything for you. I also have a little app for this if your rom doesn't have this.
@Everyone: thanks for your help.
Will install the 1.93 Developers HSPL and see how that goes.
Can anyone recommend a ROM (don't want any visual tweaks)?
Thanks again

I understand people have put a lot of hard work in and have taken a look at a few cooked ROMs, and fully intend to start cooking my own when (if) I have learned the skills.
However just got it and it has O2 branding, so i'd like to play with the original interface for a day or two before I start seeing what can really be done with the interface
Yeah, good idea, this will allow you to compare the true difference between a original and a cooked Rom. That is where one can begin to truly see how much better a cooked Rom is.

All,
Due to good success in the Blue Angel section, I have decided to open a Questions and Answers thread on this section of the forum as well. This will be good to keep the number of new threads with questions down to a minimum, which will make new threads essentially for people that are contributing to the Vogue in any way. This includes but is not limited to people that are providing
*New Roms and Kitchens
*Programs and Apps
*Fixes
*Skins
*Tips and Tricks
However, I have a life (and so do most of you), which is why I would like to request the help from other Seniors (or anyone who knows the answer really ) to monitor the thread as well. This will have the added side effect of creating an ever self updating knowledge base that will far extend the content of the Wiki. This will in turn save us from having to answer the same question 37000 times...
Without further ado, lets go for it!

Hi there Gents any input
Barogi awesome so far for v2; media player not staying in full screen mode though, and manila home weather under clock wont update when you push update now also getting error message for manila home on reboot
Great idea for a faq page!
I have been using a NFSfan rom on my bell vogue for a while, and it crapped out today for some reason. Rather than put another WM build on it, I wanted to change to Android.
I have looked through many pages in here, but I can't find a simple tutorial on switch from a custom WM build to a Android build. I prefer to use the NAND method so that I don't ever have to see WM again...
Can someone create or point me towards a step-by-step guide for installing Android? Keep in mind that I have absolutely no Android experience, and that my custom ROM is completely messed up, so would it make for sense to flash the a manf build and upgrade from there?
Thanks

I have a question:
I recently flashed the Bell rom with the latest radio (I couldn't get the radio only nbh to apply properly), and then subsequently flashed with the latest NagROM rom (which is awesome btw).
Now of course, at startup i have the nice HTC screen with the rom version etc, followed by an AWFUL blue BELL screen (and then the nice orange wm6.5 screen).
Is it possible to change the blue BELL screen? And if so how?

There was a cab to change that somewhere around here in this section of the forum. Alternatively, you can flash NFSFan's rom (which will get rid of it), or you can try mine as well and then reflash Nag's rom.

So I was running NSFANS 6.5 ROM on my device (Amazing ROM btw) But I needed to revert back to the stock rom. I used the VZW updater to go back to the stock rom and I changed the esn on line. When I dialed the *228 and choose option 1 I got a failed message. So I called customer support and he walked me through a manual programing. Well that got voice working but when I went to use the data it wouldn't work. I made sure all the network settings were right, and I still couldn't connect. Well then I hard reset the device and now I am back to square 1. No voice no data. Is this something from NSFANS rom that is messing the phone up? I don't want to call again because their tech support takes forever and I am afraid they are just going to tell me to take the phone into the store. Thanks in advance!

Why did you change the E$N? Where you using the device in a different carrier?
Back to your problem. Your EPST settings should survive a hard reset as those are parameters that are not stored in Windows (afaik). It really makes not difference which rom you are using (at least for Voice and SMS).
Lets focus on your main phone's capabilities first. If your EPST settings truly got lost, you will need to get them from Verizon again. The main ones are the MSD and MIN. Make sure that you write them down this time as you will need them again if they go bye bye.
As for your internet, you will probably need to set the correct username in the phone's programming as well (also info that you will need from Verizon, but it should be something like [email protected] or something like that)
Do that and let me know if this works. They will have to program this for you this time, but once you have the values that I mentioned before, you will be able to do it yourself.

I have android 2.1 currently on my vx6900, Id like to go back to close to stock Rom, but without all the verizon carrier "flavorings" and rescrictions.
Any ideas? Personaly I liked the simple clean useage of win 6.0 without all the extra graphics ( besides the HTC home plug in and the touch flo )
thanks in advance.

Try to get Barogi's latest "lite" rom. Also, you can't go wrong with vin's 28014 or NFSFan's rom. I would recommend mine, but I think they might be a little heavy for what you want. Good luck.
i checked out NSFSfan. It was nice, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much for what I want. Ill check out the other you suggested before i just flash back to stock rom

Try to avoid stock if you can... it has a bad tendency of being too heavy on the extra apps.
I checked out just SS's of both. Both look awesome, but theres something about the simple look ( or im just used to it since my 8125 ) of the stock look. I would like to have the look but the added memory of a cooked rom.
With NSFSfans, could you remove the today screen plug ins to get back to a more stock look?
Im runnin 2.1 android eclair at the moment, and im barley pulling a full day battery with no data/bluetooth. With the old winmo, I was getting 2.5 days-3days. Thats another main concern for me.
