Newbie Here - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi Guys,
Great forum, i just wanna ask a probably annoying question lol.
Im in Australia with a Touch Diamond, I have SPL-1.40.OliNex installed and i just want to know which Radio and Rom to use in my Country.
Any Help will be appreciated.
Thanks Guys

please refer to the radio topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470306
keep in mind though, if you want to flash radio from different devices (listed in the link above), your device must be Security-Unlocked (which is different from HardSPL).

I dont have to use a SU Radio do i?
Does anyone have any information regarding which Non SU Radio to use or if i dont need to change my current one i wont, but i would like to change the Rom, which Rom would i use in Australia? Is it neccesary to change the Radio?

Make sure you are Hard SPL before flashing anything. Regardless of where you are in the world, you can select any cooked ROM.
As far as Radio is concern, reception performance and battery consumption is dependent on location so I would advise trying and testing different radios. Just stick to the Radio's located in POST #2 as they don't require you to be Security Unlocked........http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470306

Thanks alot, Yeh im Hard SPL, and am playing with a few Roms now, one other thing though i was going to put the latest radio on, but it was a way earlier version then i have currently

This......Radio v1.11.25.01 (Quad Band)(52.58.25.30H) (NEW) is the latest version. Which radio do u have now?

I'm a total noob so please bear with me...
Does the country you're in matter when selecting a radio version? Or can you just apply a radio upgrade regardless of where you are..
edit: ok, ive finished reading the diamond radio thread. i can see that you can only go by people's reports of how it goes for them in their region...

u got it.
You can Flash any Radio, but some have better GPS/WiFi/Signal/Battery than others.
i personally use 1.00.25.05 - as i get good signal and good battery. It is a older Radio tho, and dont tend to change much

Another question - If the Radio I have right now is working perfectly well - I shouldn't need to upgrade it if I flash a new Rom, right?

it depends on if the ROM includes a Radio or not, if the ROM does, then just flash the old radio back on it
remember - its always a good idea to do a Hard Reset after flashing a new ROM

Please help on rom and radio for 8525

i done cid unlock and sim unlock also installed Hard-SPL-v7 and have now download : Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v3.62.3_ATT_Full.rar: rom
does this have a radio on or do i need to install one
and also what order does have to be in like
install radio first, then the rom or the rom first then the radio
thank guys
I dont believe Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v3.62.3_ATT_Full comes with a radio. you should do a search on that to read whats in the rom. If you are going to upgrade the radio PLEASE make sure You read the Wiki on what to do( search under radio rom upgrade or something like that). Be aware that there may be a problem upgrading to radio rom version 1.5x and check to see what people in your area are using as it could impact on reception and battery life. IF you decide to upgrade the Radio rom, be aware that ANY problems doing so can brick you mobile & it isn't fixable... you can use the pda part, but not Phone. So saying, if you follow the instructions in the wiki you should have no problems. Happy Upgrading. (Read the wiki).
thanks ultramag69 for reply
what if i dont upgrade the radio can i just upgrade to rom ?
thanks
Yes you can just upgrade the OS.
It is not advisable to upgrade radio all the time, so if your current radio version you have works good in your area, then stick with it!
thanks ai6908 for the reply
tell what so good about radio i mean what does it do

iam i good to go i done all the unlocking cid spl-v7

Radio improves your signal reception a bit, and it all depends on the area in which you live in too! I would suggest you upgrade your radio to 1.40 atleast. Radio links can be found in wiki.
thanks ai6908 for all your help i flash the rom and O.M.G what a diffence
i think i am going to play around with for while then do the radio.
once again thanks
Welcome to the wide world of ROM flashing.... Now you have to decide each time a new one comes out if you want to flash your rom......... Dont forget to thank the REALLY talented chefs who cook up these wonderful roms.

arg, flashed wm6....

hey guys, sorry in advance for the newb question.... ive been reading as much as i can about flashing.... long story short i figured it out got my wm5 flashed to wm6 (tytn I)
RUU_Hermes_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.54.707.3_6275_1.47.00.10_108_Ship
but... now im having call trouble. all my calls are going to voicemail before reaching me only 10% get through. im in full signal area. does the wm6 rom flash the radio as well? and if so does anyone know which rogers radio rom uses or even how to check the radio version? i see lots of ppl talking about it, but few how to find the version number, thanks in advance.
You may want to check the Wiki but I would definately upgrade your radio. That would most likely fix the issue. You can also try resetting and reinstalling the rom. Good luck.
so is that a yes on flashing a wm6 rom changes the radio? i still need to know where to check radio version. also ive searched the wiki up and down, but ill try again
also the wiki doesnt show my orignal software
1.34.631.14
or what radio stack it came with
Yes, flashing a WM6 rom will most likely change the radio. When you reboot your phone look at the very first screen and it should tell you the radio version. You should also be able to check while in windows under the settings / Device Information.
thank you. okay so im using 1.47.00.10 now.... does anyone know the standard rogers one? i guess i shoulda wrote all system info out b4 i flashed
it seems i found the orignal radio is 1.42 for rogers but it isnt on this site...
btw every wiki link on all the radios are dead...
okay update
so i got radio 1.48 which is supposed to be good working, and got the rogers cab and data working but my calls are still not coming through... under the call menu it says UMTS rogers but i think it should just be gsm.... anyone have any idea
fix: ended up flashing
HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108
fixed all the problems. if you have a rogers tytn i suggest staying away from the HK rom.
ty everyone

Take a look at the ROM package you are flashing...and USE CAUTION.!!!
Each time you flashed a new ROM you flashed a new Radio (not recommended frequently) , the radio you flashed which caused issues was 1.47.00.10, and notice on the official HTC ROM you flashed it includes radio 1.48.00.00. The ROM made no difference - do a bit more reading up sir since the radios are sepearate from most ROMs which are released on here.

how to flash stock telstra to use optus

Hi All,
Sorry, there is so much information on this site, i'm lost.
Can someone please provide links to what I need to download and install to upgrade a stock standard telstra diamond touch so I can get it working correctly with Optus?
Thanks.
OK, i've upgraded the bootloader to the hard spl, and the radio version is already at 1.00.25.06 (do you think its worth downgrading to 1.00.25.05??)
Now, what's the most popular rom for the diamond? What do people suggest?
Thanks.

I'm using Dutty's ROM at the mement. But I will be using this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438313
when its bugs get sorted out since its based on the Diamond 2 thingo or whatever so it'll have some new features.
I'm the same as you. Bought the Telstra Diamond and chucked in my Optus SIM. Pretty much just have to any ROM and you won't have to see the Telstra branding everywhere.
That ROM you linked looks rather spic. What issues are stopping you from flashing that ROM now?

To be honest I didn't find out about that ROM until just before I found your post, Mainly time has been stopping me and the hassle, and I read that there are some little bugs that it has when skimming through the thread but there was nothing that was bad enough to make me not upgrade. Just don't want to Flash to the ROM and then have a new revision come out two days later which is better.
Think I'll upgrade to this ROM right not though
Thanks for your post.
I decided to use the rom that you linked to, and found found it a 1000% improvement from the Tesltra one.
Only issue I have found so far is trouble connecting to wifi networks. Will have a bit more of a play soon.
Apart from that, it's good.
I 'downgraded' to the 1.00.25.05 radio and seemed to get alot better battery life from it.
Regarding ROMs, I agree almost anything is better than the stock Telstra one

[Q] Flashing Radio?

Looking through some guides about putting on custom roms and most of them say "flash the radio" or something along those lines.
Is this really necessary and what does it do.
Thanks.
You could use the search button first you know.
I have tried searching but can't really find anything, perhaps you could send me a link to the thread that you found?
hi,
here it is

enjoy
Thank you!
don't say it do hit the button
tks
some rom need it! but some not ,if it's not RUU.it won't flash radio
I think generally radio updates allow faster GPS and better reception. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Some mods require you to have a new-ish, or at least, not a really old radio.
I updated my Desire's radio to the newest one today, it works fine so far.

[Q] What radio version I have + more

Hello,
This is a silly question but i have searched the entire forum+google and I didnt find an answer on this.
So 3 questions
I am considering to install the Virtuous v3.2.0 ROM and in the thread it says
You must be rooted, have nand unlocked and be running a 2.x radio. Follow dadicus' guide for details on how to perform these steps.

NAND unlock = S-Off(?), checked
Radio 2.x??? How do I know what radio version I have?
My Baseband version is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
1) So is this my radio version? And if it is how i determine if it is 2.X?
Also I read the thread for updating a radio
I have rooted and S-OFF the phone with Easy Radio and S-Off tool. My question is:
2) It is ok to jump to Step 3?
3) And the version of the Radio that i will flash has anything to do with the current version? I mean to put 2.X i need to have 1.X?
Thank you for your time!

Edit: I've just re-read your post and you've linked to a Droid Incredible ROM but you're posting in the Desire HD forums... The DHD radios won't work on a Droid Incredible, and the Incredible ROMs won't work on a DHD. Ignore everything below unless you're on a DHD!
I assume by "2.x radio" they mean a radio from one of the Gingerbread 2.x bases. Go to the Radio Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295 and check the description against each radio.
For example your radio for your 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M it says "HTC WWE 1.32.405.6", so I would think you need to update your radio. A lot of people are using the radio from the official Gingerbread final release
28th April 2011: Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
Regarding flashing the radio, I haven't read that thread in detail but it's for the Droid Incredible, and the method won't be the same for the DHD. There are better instructions in the radio thread I linked. Hope that helps.
Nice one my dear me
Sorry I totally didnt notice that that ROM was for another phone. Someone suggested it and I didnt check it...
Thanks for the information I will read the post...
Thanks again

Heh, no problem. The radio info is good then. You're on a very old radio, so if you want to try a custom ROM based on Gingerbread then it would still be a good idea to update it. Check the thread and also follow the link in it to the info about Radio RILs.
And there is a Virtuous "Unity" ROM for the DHD by the same team, the thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115312
Thanks, maybe that was the one that the guy suggested then
I will check the links. Respect
Oh another small question
Can I jump directly and install 28th April 2011: Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
Or because my radio is so old I will have to make some intermediate updates?

You won't have to make any intermediate updates, but I'm not 100% sure how the Gingerbread radios (2.x) work on Froyo ROMs - might be worth asking in the thread. I know people are doing it the other way around, i.e. using older Froyo radios (1.x) on newer GB ROMs.
But if you're on a Froyo ROM and about to change to a Gingerbread one, most custom GB ROMs have the RIL files for the radio above included. In that case you're fine, and it doesn't matter whether you flash the ROM or the radio first.
Yeap its me again Sorry for the many questions but I read that flashing a radio is too risky and I do not want to attempt anything before I am 100% sure that I have the full picture...
In the thread that you gave me with the radios (and thank you for that) next to the radio version there is a provider
eg
25th February 2011: Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3 - Orange UK 1.84.61.2 / CSL-HK CHT 1.84.832.2

Also the author suggests to download this one

Hi again. Don't worry, this is the Q&A forum after all.
I guess in theory flashing anything is risky, but it's very difficult to "brick" a DHD (i.e. make it completely un-fixable). I've flashed radios dozens of times, searching for that elusive perfect one. And if anything should go wrong (unlikely), as long as you have a working bootloader you can restore just about anything else. Just take your time and follow instructions written specifically for the DHD, the best ones are generally found in these forums.
By the way, you need to have Eng S-OFF (engineering bootloader) to flash radios in the standard way, do you have that yet? If not, jkoljo's tool for that is the best way, it has loads of fail-safes built in to make sure it works correctly.
To answer your questions, you can ignore the provider name (e.g. Orange, Cingular) - that just means the radio was released specifically for that carrier, but it often works well with other networks. For example the best radio for me on Froyo was the Cingular one, but I'm on Vodafone in the UK.
It's hard to tell you the best radio, as it depends on your network, location, etc. - for example one radio might use more power, and use more battery in areas with good signal strength (e.g. cities), but it would work better in areas with a poor signal. This is why some people flash different radios to test them.
It can also depend on which ROM you're planning to use. Gingerbread ROMs are generally built to work with the 28th April official radio, so I would suggest starting with that if you're on a GB ROM.
By the way, the key bit of the radio name that identifies it is the part after the underscore character "_", so for the
Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
radio you can refer to it as the "26.09.04.11_M2" radio.
If you're on a Froyo ROM, I would start off with the 26.04.02.17_M2_SF radio Drakknar recommends. If you're on a Gingerbread ROM, I would start with 26.09.04.11_M2. If it works fine, you're done. Unless you're like some of us, obsessively searching for something just slightly better.
Just don't forget that if you flash a radio other than the one recommended for the ROM, you should also flash the matching RIL file. The radio thread has a link to the RIL thread. The RIL for the ROM's recommended radio will already be included in it, though.
Anyone else reading this should feel free to jump if they have any differing advice!
I already have ENG S-OFF and I am using a Gingerbread ROM more specifically TRUE SENSE 3.0 - i00 ROM 5.5 (Since Android version that my device reports is 2.3.3)
But I have some issues with creating and renaming folders on the Home screen, and I cannot report it as bug because I do not have the required posts
Anyway Thanks again for the quick and detailed answer!

Ah, that ROM does recommend the 26.04.02.17_M2_SF radio, I see what you mean, I assume they have included the relevant RILs so I would start off with that one. It certainly performed very well for a lot of people, despite being an older radio.
Good luck with your homescreen bug.
