HELP! Info wanted on Pocket MSN - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have just upgraded my T-Mobile Mda Compact II for a Compact IV and although I knew it would no longer have the Pocket MSN application on, I was convinced that I could buy it from Microsoft still.
Unfortunately, that 'page can no longer be found' and although I have found a link from another site it specifies that it is for Windows Mobile 5.
Basically what this application does is allow you to use Messenger and Hotmail accounts without opening a browser window, Ie, Hotmail is just another account in your phone, along with Outlook and the SMS/MMS account, and it would seem I can't live without it!
Can anyone tell me if they know why it has been discontinued, if there is a newer version or if there is something else to replace it?
Thank you

Old Pocket MSN vs Live

I used to sync my hotmail and msn mails directly with Pocket MSN via ActiveSync, the messenger working too
Now with Live (pre-installed on WM5 AKU 3.5) it stop working (messenger) and i don't know how to re-configure mail accounts
any idea how to configure Hotmail or MSN with new Pocket Live
If any one has "Pocket MSN" installer please send it
best regards
Windows Live
I am using Ivan's AKU 3.5 and this does not come with Windows Live pre-installed. Therefore I downloaded the Windows Live cab-file from the xdev-ftp site and installed it. I just needed it to get access to my Hotmail account. After istallation I logged on to Windows Live and set up to only sync my email (not my contacts) and everything worked smoothly.
Dunno if it is of help, but there is no need to downgrade. I also 'tested' Helmi's UKA 3.5 and Windows Live worked for me (as far as I remember)

You can just copy the old PMSN from AKU2.0

I am using the Windows live and I do receive my hotmails without problems. In fact I would say it is better than previous pocket msn.
I have tested to sending myself a mail from other account. I have received the mail on my device ca. 15 -30 sec. after it has arrived on my hotmail inbox. It feels like push mail. Indeed I have started to forward my usual email accounts to hotmail and get it pushed to my device.
Who needs a exchange server :0)
I do exactly the same thing All my e-mail now goes to my hotmail account. Just be carefull that you don't drain the battery when staying connected
I was wondering if anyone has the cab installer for Pocket MSN. The ones before Windows Live? ... I've even asked this in another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1090483&postcount=334
Is the above cab file the installer?

Strange.
PMSN puts the emails (send & receive) in "Hotmail Inbox/Sent" but Windows Live put the emails (receive? & send) in "Windows Live Inbox/Sent". At least those which I sent via Windows Live goes into "Windows Live Sent", not "Hotmail Sent".

it doesn't work with me, but Pocket MSN does.
it fails at the final step with "Windows Live is unable to connect. The service may be temporarily unavailable, ..." error, but I have an internet connection (tested by IE)

pocket msn missing on uk mda mail

i dont know if its because its wm5 or weather t-mobile are being sneaky and hiding the app.
but on my last wm5 device (wizard) i had msn messenger and hotmail access.
but on my new MDA Mail (dash / s620) its nowhere to be seen and whats more ive been to windows downloads and its not there either.
does anyone know a registry hack to show it or where i can download it from???
cheers

search around for the windows live messenger program.
probably your best bet or upgrade to wm6.

Windows Live Messenger screwed (WM6)

Managed to upgrade my XDA Orbit to the original WM6 upgrade fine, was all running sweet. Had WLM set-up for my hotmail account. I wanted to use another hotmail for WLM so I decided to click on "Switch User"...... ehm now WLM is screwed. All my messenger contacts are gone from contacts, messenger will open but tries to sign in with no account?? It wont let me add another account, and I cannot set-up my hotmail for emails as it uses WLM to set it up. When I try to set it up for email, Windows Live just loads and never asks to set-up an account. I have tried reinstalling WLM but this just adds duplicate links and has the same issues?? LOL
Is there any way of "resetting" WLM (without having to hard reset my device?
Any help would be much appreciated
so I'm guessing nobody knows anything about this? Has anybody tired switching accounts to see if its just my software? Any response would be nice
Switching accounts works fine on mine. I am using the Touch-Flo ROM from on the site.

Windows live messenger help

Hello,
Is there anyway to stop Windows Live Messenger contacts being added to your phone contacts. I have tried going to Windows Live, select 'menu' and go to 'Options > 2 Sync options' and disable the option for sync contacts, But then when I go to sign in to Live messenger it tells me that it will sync my contacts to my contact lists.
Thanks
Anyone got any ideas for this problem
Hello,
I ahad this problem...But, when you install window live messenger, it ask you : "Add your MSN's contact in your mobile's contact", remove it. (I hope that you understood!!)
I understand what you mean, splodger15. I think it's kind of stupid idea that we have to sync all fkin contacts to our phone. I tried to disable it but , as you said, it seems like no way to do that. I don't think I need all msn messenger's contacts on our phone 'cos I use Window Live Messenger just to chat with my friends. so I don't need all fkin 500+ emails to be on my phone. for this reason, I prefer Pocket MSN to WLM, though WLM has more features than PMSN.
let's see what I got....
- My phone is Dopod D810 with WM6 rom and I love it.
- I tried to delete a WLM contact on my phone while I had WLM online. it was totally gone so I had to add my friend back again.
- I tried again, had WLM offline, deleted all 500 emails, and online again. I got nothing on WLM's contact list but......a second later, all email had synced and appeared on my phone's contacts again.
- if you know anything new, please let me know. I would appreciate it.
Good luck and happy holidays..........

Get MSN email on my phone.

Hey guys. For the past couple of months ive been trying to find a solution to this problem and its been driving me absolutely crazy. I have my email @msn.com and its been there for the past 8 years. It would be EXTREMELY inconvenient to change it to somewhere else. Well anyway, i want to be able to check my email from my phone, and be notified when a new message comes in. So i tried to set it up using the Mobile outlook, but apparently msn email isnt compatible with it(which i find to be one of the stupidest things ever). So then i thought to forward all my msn email to a gmail account or something, but msn only allows you to forward email to another msn or hotmail account. So then i found the Windows Mobile Live program, which i gotta say sucks to all hell, but apparently works with msn email so i thought id give it a try. Turns out though that my internet connection (the tmobile proxy hack which only allows me to use port 8080) doesnt work, and theres no way to change the port for Mobile Live. I was hoping someone out there might have a solution or an idea. Thanks in advance.

thats not a program, but a webpage through pocket IE. The problem with that, besides the fact that it sucks, is that it wont automatically download new messages and give alerts. i was hoping for a program based kind of thing. thanks anyway though
