HI,
I'm new to this forum and new to the phone, I've ordered mine.
Although I'm fairly tech savvy, I am a web developer, middle level technically proficient in VBA and so forth...
I ordered and decided on this phone because of the PDA, Organiser, pocket pc and of course the phone.. basically all that is advertised.
But i'm beginning to have serious and grave concerns.. can people of this forum enlighten me..
The importtant feature of this phone for me beside being a phone is:
1. can it competentnly and reliabley syn with outlook
2. is there any issues with Excel as I will be using quite a bit of this on the road...
I won't have time or inclination to mess wtih the code or add new stuff. as i need this phone for mission critical business needs and hence can't have it bneing unrealible...
i hope i havne't made the wrong decision to embrace technology (although I know some of the more complidcated features or nifty features may have isssues)....
is this phone worth while and does what it says it does? or have i wasted a lot money
It synchs brilliantly with Outlook (I'm synching at home with Outlook 2003 and at work with Outlook XP\Exchange), way better than any other smartphone - mainly symbian - that I've ever used.
The Excel is good (if not brilliant). It works as advertised. Whether it will be suitable for you depends on what you want to use it for. It doesn't contain all the functions of the full excel, though it always surprises me just how many of the more obscure functions it does contain (PMT is the most important function I use, and is included). However, if you are looking to use Excel for graphs and charts etc, then you are going to be disappointed.
Anyway, if you've ordered it, you usually get a 14 day cooling off period during which you can return for a full refund.
Excel isn't bad, but if you're working on advanced spreadsheets then you should definitely look at PlanMaker from Softmaker.de. This is a simply stunning package that is what Excel should be...
Cheers,
nick.
thanks for the review.. one other thing.. noise when hangs u
i've heard from other users that there is a notceable and unpleasant tone when it hangs up..
man.. the amount of issues that is raised, itrs so bloody scary, can this phone still be used as a phone?
some have raised issues of not receiving even a call or an sms...
this wholly defeatst he purpose of this device entirely!!
can people comment? under what circumstances does it not work, are many people messing with the phone with installing new software or what?
Well I am a heavy user of my XDAII. I use it for txt, voice call, excell, powerpoint, word, acrobat, games, and too much of the Windows Media.
I compressed the Video Karaoke VCD's or DVD's to my SD. I always sync with avantgo. I use Internet Explorer to view or approve transactions in our Office Linux Web based ERP solution wirelessly via bluetooth.
I still recieve my messages and calls so don't worry. But remeber, be a smart user. Since this is a Windows platform, you have to Soft Reset after openning a lot of applications or install the Omega One Battery Pack Software to end unwanted or running applications so that you do not have to perform a soft reset.
I hanged up 2x in my early experience with this device because I used up most of the internal memory. I learned my lesson now that all apps must be installed in the external memory.
I always made sure that I have 60 mb free of internal memory so that it will not hang anymore. This 60 mb free serves as the working memory of my running programs or apps.
Hope this info will be useful to you.

I have 2 XDAII, 1 for me and 1 for my wife. We are both heavy users and so far no problems.
Are we just lucky or what?
Another thing if you only want a phone then this device is not for you. The XDA is an overkill if you only intend to use it as a phone.
For me I treat my XDA more as a Portable Personal Computer (Pocket PC) that happens to have a cellular phone capability.
Additional comments. If you are a comfortable user of Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP and understand the Operating System very much, then the XDAs is for you.
If you hate Windows and prefer Linux or Mac OS then you better use Palm Treo, Sony Ericcson P900 or 910i., or other Symbian OS.
Windows Mobile based Smartphones or PDA phones to me are for advance users who understand the system very much. Otherwise you will keep on complaining that it is hanging, crashing, slowing down, etc.
My wife also give me these problems before so I have to teach or train her how to understand the Windows System. Now she is on the advance type of user and does not give me headaches anymore.
Personally I have tried the Nokias, the Sony Ericssons, and the Treos. I was never satisfied by those devices as the applications were limited based on my usage and other interface in the office. I have to use 3rd party solutions just to make them work. Some of them specially the Nokias simply won't work.
In fact I work with Sharp and our Linux based PDA takes a lot of tweaking to work with our system and it has no GSM phone capability. So Sharp decided to switch to Windows platform so that Zaurus will sell.
Personally I will not exchange my XDA II or any Windows Platform PDAphones to other devices.
My XDAII easily integrated with our system without any 3rd party solutions. Remember we are using Linux in the office and the XDA II is connected to the system via bluetooth.
I have to agree with rayt, there are enough people around (myself included) who are using these devices day in day out without any problems (other than the occasional, well documented, bluetooth glitch) to show that the device is fine.
I really do struggle to understand the mentality of some of the people on this forum who have spent weeks and weeks complaining about how awful their devices are.
All they have to do is perform a hard reset and use the device for a couple of days in a clean state. If it doesn't crash anymore, then the problem was third party software or how it was set up. If the problem persists, it's a faulty unit and should be returned for a replacement. It's that simple. It's almost as if they enjoy being a victim!

Thank you! If your bluetooth glitch is hotsync or internet pass through, I made a solution for this. Go to this link at, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13387&highlight=.
I made a detailed instruction for the bluetooth. In fact my XDA is a virgin, meaning the OS is a factory original with 1.66.00WWE.
I dropped my XDA on the concrete floor 5 times already by accident so far no hang-ups except for external housing scratches.

any more tips and tricks welcome! feeling better now!
Yes, thanks oh so much for all your comments and tips and tricks,
I'd appreciate anyone posting to give some advice on how to use this,
so as i understand, install only programs on external memory,
keep it clean, don't mess about too often and use soft reset or download a software as one suggested....
I was beginning to feel very worried, that htis is some large rip off given its a huge pie in the sky ask for a company to put together what everybody is now thinking.. convering pda, phone, pc.... i know they are trying to break grounds, but heck, the stories we here on this forum,
its like its a unmerchanable product.. and a class lawsuit should be preppared....
keep the tips going
if you know how to use desktop windows xp then you should automatically know how to use the xda II and as far as keeping it clean is concerned if you wanna really keep it clean then you should buy a sd or mmc memory chip and install your programs on that so that your pda remains with full memory and does not get slowed down and stuff....

It is not an unmerchanable product! And a lawsuit must not be abused and unnecessary.
I have to remind that the product is not for everybody and I have to repeat again that it is intended for advanced users, Techie, or IT literate people.
You said that you were a web developer and in VBA. Now I want to ask you a question, can you name any Phone other than Windows powered that can run your VBA scripts? If there are any I will be glad to try them again.
I am not a loyal Microsoft User or Developer as I am also into Unix, Linux, and Mac OS. It only happened that my XDA solved my problems in the office without any 3rd party applications or tweaking.
I think this discussion is going somewhere else like what the EU government is doing to Windows. They sued MS because of the many funtionality and usefullness of windows like the antitrust case in the US.
Now tell me are you willing to buy the Windows Reduced Media Functionality because of what the government said so or are you willing to stand or go for a System that is complete and inovative at athe same price?
If you don't like it return it and don't insist on it. Buy another PDAPHONE device with a different platform like Symbian, Linux, or Palm OS and try your applications. Only then you will know that the Windows Platform is the right choice and is not a ripoff.
I sold my Nokias, Sony Ericcsons, and Treos as they did not work or fit for our systems in and outside the office.
The last 3 phones can't even perform my Hobbies done in VBA. These hobbies are satellite tracking, planet tracking, astronomy, and anything related to the solar system. These hobies run on my XDAs and my XDA tells me the weather conditin 5 days in advance.
I was using an iphone the other day. I like how it seems like its "accelerated" with a 3D graphics card. I got to thinking about my 8525 and how it jerks around, but then i got to thinking about s2u2, SCLPC++, s2u2 settings, iContact etc and wondered why someone hasn't created a home screen replacement. Is it just too entrenched into windows to do away with the start menu? Is there a way to create a new shell like you can on x86 based machines with windows?
I'm not complaining about anything here though. I'm very happy playing with all the different roms you guys create, but I'm hungry for something new. I've recently started playing around with linux on my home PC (been putting it off for some time b/c I am a vb programmer as well as a cell phone mod'er). The idea of taking something you own and completely changing the interface (not just the color or the pictures) really excites me.
For those who say "why don't you do it", I am a married factory worker with a two year old and I own my own home (yard mowing eats a lot of free time). I'd love to learn whatever language needs to be learned and start programming the heck out of this thing (if you want to see my work, go to www.mediaengine.org its for carputers ((which is a good way to take your phone one step further ))) <- heh nested parenthesis in a post.
I'm also not saying the iphone is a superior interface. I actually couldn't figure it out at first. I didn't realize that the "middle" button was "back". But I like that. Its different and I thought "whoa". I know that our phones can do it. I just wish it would now
I suppose this is a call out to the programmers around here to start working on a holy cow shell replacement so when people whip out their iphones and start wowing everyone, i can whip out my htc and go "ya I can do that, but I also have a transformer phone with a keyboard (insert transformers sound here when the keyboard opens) <- another thing my phone won't do and wish it could. - This leads me back to programming... When someone says "it can't do that" usually that means that there is a way, but no one has found it.
heh thanks to all (schaps, shamanix, and all the other rommers out there making the hermes rock).
BTW sorry if this belongs in another forum. I just always hang out in the wm6 area.
Opt 1:Wisbar and wisbar desktop advanced,
Opt 2: SPB Mobile Shell 2.x ( i think 2.1 is current version )
pleant of Lside 2 unlock and Iphone skins, interfaces etc.etc etc around the internet and on this forum. just gotta do a bit of search's
Just depends on how bad you wanna sit there and 1up and Iphone user.
As right now the only way to do Youtube video is a plugin and TCPMP where as Safari on the iphone just works. I'm not a big fan of the iphone but
in short the 1 fact that you can flash any firmware that was made for your hermes and install 3rd party software and your provider and device manufacture will not lock you out of your firmware by doing a forced update ( itunes updating the iphone ) means your is far superior then an iphone just in itself and we will not EVEN go down the fact iphones are NOT 3g from their 1st incarnation Nor can they NOT have additional memory
those reasons alone should say Buy your ipod touch and get a Htc Windows Mobile based phone and just run wifi router of you wanna use safari and have a fun time with the accellerometer in the touch ( same as iphone )

Right i'm not saying the iphone is better than the htc. I'm saying why hasn't anyone exploited its graphics speed very much?
maybe because the generic windows mobile driver dont have any speed to exploit
Does anyone think that the iPhone os and Android have helped kill the "smartfone"?
It seems these os's are intended for mainstream use, kind of like the symbian os a few years back where kid's, mom's and dad's used a nokia or even a motorola. While the business or tech heads used windows mobile for PC-like functionality.
Microsoft have dumbed down their w7 phone software to the point my grandmother, or 10 yr old brother could and would be sold one of these (as long as he had cash lol), in hope to compete against these new mainstream os's that are extreamly competitive already and not the business or tech-head market the os seemed to be initially intended for.
It seems the software design is focused on people updating their facebook status or tweeting that they are taking a dump, and not really using them for work purposes at all.
With windows phone 7 am i going to be able to work with basic word, excel and pdf docs? Will I be able to use remote desktop or setup multiple outlook email accounts? Will alot of the programs i use on pc be available in windows 7 phone format? I cant seem to find much info, all the reviews ive seen seem to concentrate on its "social networking features", or show its "image gallery" and uninspired UI.
A smartfone is suppose to be a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities. The iPhone and Android have pretty much become mainstream os's, so i personally wouldnt call them advanced devices, they are simply the 2009-10 standard device, a touchscreen multimedia phone with 3g connections. And windows 7 phone looks like its the same. I think Apple and Google have taken 2 steps forward and microsoft have taken 1 back. Leaving us with no real advanced mobile phone or os as they are all now on par, with android looking the most positive of these mainstream os's.
So if its not aimed at the business or hi-tech market, what are we going to buy? I wonder if we will all be trying to hack the windows mobile 6.5 os onto these new devices in the near future to get some multitasking business features and PC-like functionality back? Im sure it would run great on the new hardware hehe.
You are quite right IMHO, but there is simple reason for that.
MS was targetting PocketPC platform, giving "full PC in your pocket"-like experience. This was for techs, administrators, but not for teenagers eagerly wanting to touch their phones without stylus, browsing internet, having thousands of animations AND HAVING IT SIMPLE. With Apple and later Google coming out with platform that actually allows you to simply and naturally touch the screen with your finger without using stylus, do simple things simple way (and disabling the hard things, because why would teenager need eg PuTTY right, for security and having out of box experience "it works" without installing ton of software, going through registry etc), MS's sales are slowly moving towards 0. And now, MS is targetting those teenagers, giving them all Facebook integrated in contacts, with simple UI and powerful base for making rich applications and games.
That part is good, that MS restarted whole Phone experience, giving minimal requirements so no more sluggish phones (just look on even HD2, needing patching driver for GPU and so on), creating whole UI rendered on DirectX, having new kernel, thus having it all like.. superfast.
On the other hand, they locked it down as hell. No teenager (except me ) wants to go through registry, they just want to have ton of apps on marketplace, and ton of games they can play. No manual googling for stuff, direct access from phone with cool UI. That's it.
I wanted to say something more, but I forgot what I wanted lol.
// ohh remembered:
Let's skip the definition "Smartphone is PocketPC without touchscreen", and say how do I feel difference between Smartphone and PocketPC.
I see smartphone as being something stupid with some internal APIs, integration option. (iOS, Android)
And I see PocketPC as being full PC in my pocket. Because of screen size, CPU power, RAM etc, it ofc has to be redesigned a lot. But the main idea "do what you want anyhow you want" must be there. It isn't in case of Smartphone (WinMo, partially Android).
No smartphones are getting more advanced. Yes the interfaces are about eye candy now, but I'd take that over the old WM6 anyday.

This. The OSs might have been dumbed down, but at the core, it's all what applications you use to run on them. I am way more productive with my iPhone than I ever have been an other smartphone before then, and I will be with WP7 more so with it's amazing Office integrations
can you elaborate on the office integrations? Are there new office features that we havent seen on mw6.5?
If you are more productive on your iPhone than on wm6.5 are you using it for business/pc-like features or for social multimedia use?
Im just disapointed that they seem to have locked down the device, dumbed the UI to a point it actually looks like a really bad skinning attempt to conserve ram lol. The first pics i saw of the w7phone i thought must have been someones photoshop attempt at a joke. I lol'd then got a look of concern on my face as I realised they were real pics.
They are trying to enter into a mainstream teenage market already accomodated by the iPhone and now android. Leaving the traditional "pc in your pocket-business user" market with a void.
I personally dont tweet, dont use facebook, and would never use a xbox live service while im taking notes on my device in a meeting. I regularly work on my home/work pc through remote desktop. Use the calendar to set appointments, browse multiple websites at once and generally run 2-3 apps at the same time. I regularly use word and excel, and always sync my business/personal emails from by pc each morning.
I suppose the question is will wm7 be right for me? I would have preferred them to concentrate on new touch friendly business applications, handwriting recognition and smarter gui, not concentrate on social networks and games which make it seem to much like a teenagers phone. If these features i need are there that will be great and ill consider it. If not I think ill have to look into being converted into an androidian and lay my pc in my pocket to rest in a safe place as one of the last of its kind
Many of us wonder how it will be.
From the sales point of view, you have to simplify and make more eye candy
to increase your sales 10 or 100 times.
Just count how many Communicators Nokia sold, or HTC TyTn II's
and compare to iPhone.
But it's possible that following the smartphone's expansion
users beeing more conscious will want more functionality
which will be brought back........
I'm very happy with better cameras and screens though.
And hardware became so strong too.
So not all is lost.
THE ONLY QUESTION is if Microsoft is willing to bring all those missing things
or not........................
I pray for the resurrection of the PPC!
If I had this

Yes it would appar that MS is moving to a more of a "walled garden" approach
yeah that sony in hd2 form factor would be great, i was hoping the tp3 would have been a similar device. Bring back the ppc! hehe.

More like safety. I'll keep my guaranteed updates through one provider thank you very much.
I dont see why you are complaining about the path that manufacturers are going today.
It is easy to know WHY they make advanced devices simpler to use, (to get a broader consumer base).
And I must admit I will miss the usability of winmo, but when you think about it, who uses the original UI of that OS? It's all skinned for eyecandy and simplicity to the end user.
So I would like you to see the bright side of this: The HTC TP2 will cost next to nothing very soon (well its darn right cheap already!). And it seems it has all you need!
For taking notes who needs 1ghz, right?
So I consider it a win-win situation for you, cheap phones with the functionality you require
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
The concerns are understandable, but I wouldn't say MS is abandoning the business user. In fact, I would state they are allowing the business user to encompass the newer business model also which includes facebook, twitter and other social mediums. Since you don't use either (directed to the OP) you may have missed that nearly every large corporation has a Facebook page and many are using Twitter to stay in touch with their user base.
The business model of marketing has changed dramatically in the last 5 years and I wouldn't give the credit to either the Iphone or Android, but to the social marketing that occurs with mediums such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc... I must admit that I fought being a part of these as did many of my friends (ages 35-42), but truth is they work great when it comes to actually being in contact with each other and for a business, it's customer base. Word of mouth has always been the true back bone of these businesses growing and these social mediums all take word of mouth and expand it's power by the millionth.
I applaud MS for actually creating a brand new ui and os to take advantage of both. If you are really concerned with your ability to be productive on the machine look at the many videos we've seen so far. You still have outlook, the office suite, etc... I am unsure if remote desktop will remain available but I believe it will in WP7.
The people who are left out are us nerds. The systems are lockdowned for now on and we get left out the loop, but we buy less phones than the clones do even if we are the reason these things work out properly with all of our experimenting, rom chefs and willingingness to beta test any and everything that comes our way.
ok, so I'm enjoying my Desire's speed and stability compared to my WiMo HTC Touch HD. I can still use Word and Excell and synchronize email and calendars, etc. But there is one thing I am missing: handwriting recognition. Now people will tell me to use Swype (which I am) but it's still not the same thing. With the stylus and handwriting recognition I used to sit in meetings and take notes for real. Now it somehow does not work as well and I also feel a little like a joke swyping. I am not much of a poking-through-the-registry kind of guy but I did like having complete access to the file system, being able to move any file where I wanted it, and so on. But I guess this is just the way this world goes. IN the meantime, I am sticking with android for now. It seems that windows phone 7, although it does look great, I love the look, I just cannot part with copy and paste. There is more to this world than tweeting and facebooking.
^ I can agree to that. Not the swype part though, its fast as hell.
If i had to choose between windows mobile 6 or wp7, i have already made my decision
I will surely choose wp7, not because wm 6 is bad, but because wp7 works fluid. And I need my daily amount of eyecandy

I think the only time I have ever used copy and paste on my Vibrant is when I had to put in my unlock code for Launcher Pro. Other than that I really don't use it on a daily basis.
I think my more frequent use is just to clear a text im writing because they texted back and it changed my opinion, so I just cut all to delete it lol

I think most people complaining now are not thinking long term.
Yes the OS is simpler and 'less' business and PPC focused. But. Think of it like this.
Start with simple yet powerful OS with enough feature to hook some power-users and easy enough for the average consumer to pick it up.
Now this is where the strategy plays out over the years to come. You train you base customer with update that over time make the OS more powerful and more feature rich much like PPC that they don't even know they're using a smartphone because you have "trained" them.
Sound familiar. It was the iPhone tactic from when it was released. Everyone knows the feature the iPhone4 has now could have existed years ago but they are "training" their user base.
Analogy time: If someone handed you an Indie car (PPC) and said race it you would be so confused by all the buttons and controls and not know how to handle it effectively.
But.
If they handed you a Suzuki Swift (WP7 (No idea why I thought of this car: P)) and said they will teach you to drive you'll have no worries buying from them again and buying a slightly (updates) more powerful car next time.

Hey everyone,
I'd like to pitch in and start developing on WP7, thanks to my new LG Optimus 7. I have a working knowledge of C# and have earlier developed on WP6.5...
Unfortunately though.. the only computers I have on my disposal are Macs... Anyone have any luck developing for WP7 on them? All the tools I found don't seem to have open-source/Mac alternatives.
Please don't suggest a VM.. its too slow... Boot Camp is a pain (have other issues with Apple on that one!)
Thanks for your help..

Get a cheap Dell, put it on your LAN and remote desktop into it.
Or make your first goal a port of Microsoft's dev tools for Mac.
Ok, I hate macs with every fiber of my being and wouldnt use one if my choices were using a Mac or watching my legs go through a wood chipper but cant you just emulate the silverlight tools.... or I also heard macs can dual boot windows so you could use a good OS.

linux is unusable, however some people enjoy spending their days on forums looking up any number of random things from trying to make your cpu fan speed scale to getting your wifi card to work. That's for home use, as a server in a data centre in a pre-configured setup it's ideal.
Windows hasn't changed fundamentally since NT, even on 7 you still can't move a file while in use, sometimes you can't delete a file because it mistakenly *thinks* its in use, PCs are noisy and innefficient when running that OS. Stuff is just harder and more awkard to do, e.g. checking your IP address is over 7 clicks, if you make it that far and don't get confused by all the weird pictures of routers and globes. Even on 7 you need to resort to running cmd to do simple tasks that are a couple of clicks at most on every other OS.
With macs it comes down to the fact you can work quicker on it, there are less problems, the frameworks and dev tools are well designed, used by Apple themselves, so you can write apps faster, and make more money, and less frustrations along the way, leading to an overall less stressful more successful life. But I'm not going to argue with you, some people enjoy pain and just live unlucky lives, making bad decisions. All very strange to me...

Yes, we enjoy making bad decisions. We love knowing that if our webcam breaks we have to send the whole computer in or buy a new one. We also love the fact that our market share is ridiculously low because we offer no form of freedom. I have multiple phones with more gaming capability as well as functionality as a mac. Their are less problems because who wants to create "problems" for a 6 percent market share when they can clear 90 percent with their "buy our antivirus to fix our virus" crap. All mac has going for it is the fact that they "just work." Well, I built a PC more than 2 times more powerful than any Mac I've seen and it works fine for a much lower cost. If I were incompetent and planned on opening emails that congratulated me for winning 100,000 dollars and all I had to do was download the sign-up form then yeah, I'd use a mac. For now I like gaming, the cloud, applications that are worth anything being designed for my computer, freedom, being able to repair it myself, and not having to bend over for that nazi Steve Jobs.
If your webcam breaks you take it to a store which fixes it for free in a couple of days for 3 years, and if it isn't fixed to your satisfaction you get a brand new laptop, the latest model even if yours is years old, and its all taken care of by a hot girl. Yeh most people would totally rather spend their time instead under the desk with a screwdriver or surfing newegg comparing specs and benchmarks of harddrives that copy an extra 0.5MB/s faster. I totally understand your point there...
yes because people go to the apple store for the hot chicks, yeah, thats the case. Then they go without a computer for 3-5 days all to get a webcam repaired. Then they go back home and enjoy adding effects to photos.... seeing as how thats about the most amusing thing a Mac can do without emulating windows files.
Looks like no-one has the answer.
You need Visual Studio at the moment (AFAIK) and that only runs on Windows OS's.
Sorry.

You know back in the day I use to rely on cnet reviews in order to assist in my hardware purchases. That was a very long time ago. That being said I subscribe to Google Tech News and ran across this gem. http://news.cnet.com/8301-31322_3-20094766-256/windows-phone-7-challenge-week-2-the-verdict/?tag=mncol This is by far the most hilarious review of Windows Phone I've come across yet. I mean seriously this woman spent two weeks with the phone and got out of it what an average person may have in the first 3 hours. Absolutely priceless and comical if you regularly use this device and have a 3 digit IQ. After reading this thing I feel like a rocket scientist for being able to find my Skydrive Camera Roll in my Pictures Hub. Yes, it's that good.
P.S. - Considering there are people like this out there and dare I say they are the majority perhaps Microsoft should consider building a better introduction of features into the intial boot of the phone.
The WP7 UI is already simple and intuitive, shouldn't be really hard to use. But yeah, there should be a quick guide after phone setup since most people (including this woman) probably don't read the quick start guide first before using the product.
If you read the first part of the review, or any of her previous articles, you'll find she's actually closer to an Android power user. She is not dumb in any way.
Sorry but you can't blame the user on this one; if she couldn't find stuff in 2 weeks, it's because the OS is at fault.
well, i'm sure brandon watson wouldn't mind donating that 1k anyway
a better PR move will be to donate that 1k, after the user tried it, regardless of whether he/she likes it or not
creates positive publicity at the end

Agreed.
And her comments regarding Bing Map, Turn-by-turn navigation and Skyfire are unfortunately valid.
She did note that she didn't bother search for anything. She just tried to use the phone without digging into anything.
She didn't know what the hotmail email icon was or how to turn it off.. when it is only 3 taps away.
She couldn't find facebook chat even though it is integrated into messaging.. she just didn't *look* for anything.
Her primary criticisms are completely valid, though.
1. Turn by Turn should not require user interaction after a course is set
2. speech to text should be built more into the OS instead of limited to a few basic functions
3. it is difficult to access skydrive if you're not using it to open office documents or browse pictures. There's no universal cloud access for general purposes made available in the OS.. which is also a valid complaint.
4. It's not very simple to make a playlist in the Zune player.. you can't just long press on a song or an album and add it to a playlist.. you can only generate a playlist from your "now playing" internal playlist (you can save this as a new playlist) or using SmartDJ.
Most of these things aren't a big deal to me. Thankfully there is a "how to" section included in build 7720 for new users to go over the basic functions.
It's very easy to use, imo.. and is laid out in a way that makes sense.. but the average user isn't going to find every single little feature without help.

This is supposed to be a professional review. As such, there is a duty to find actual answers and solutions to problems. Sure, it is ok for her to try and do things without reading or looking for help. It is not ok to end a review without providing those answers or solutions.
This is juvenile journalism. It is sad that the current level of technology journalism has regressed instead of progressed. If our current journalists were to be compared to operating systems, they would be somewhere between DOS and Windows 3.1.
Many of the things she stated, as a journalist, were simply poor observations. The statements she made about Zune Pass should make that abundantly clear. She has no clue. I don't care if she is "considered" an Android guru. Who gave her that crown? I would love to go over her Android skills, if I only had that much time. If this review is any indication of her skills, she is a hack.

Amen! You know this whole thing of being PC on the internet allows some pretty assnine people to become prevalent personlities in the tech scene with almost zero credibility. Just cuse some chick can find the on button on an Android device does not make her a guru.

Sorry, but this is not how a professional reviewer works. One thing is claiming that some feature or functionality is not supported on the device. Another entirely different one is to say that it is indeed supported, but it is hard to find or know how to do.
It should have been her job to make sure what she can and she cannot do on the phone, and if it was too hard to find, then say so, but DO NOT say its not supported or that it cannot be done. Shame on her for this.
I doubt she used d phone for more than an hour. Hoe can u miss out on those things when ur a techie? D article is biased and no effort was put into it whatsoever.
How ever, android is more straight forward w its 'pc' like interface.. For me, I use a PC almost 10hours a day. Don't want a phone that resembles my desktop.. That's where wp7 cones in.

wow
this is one DUMB broad
Alrighty then
I would never trust a review with a woman with such a freakishly large left shoulder.
The chip is weighting the other one down.
I'm using Mango 7720 and i never had random reboots on my hd7
I'm using my phone without rebooting for a week without any problems

shades of OJ??
I'm reminded of a certain someone trying on a pair a gloves. He didn't *want* them to fit, so he made it difficult for them to fit, thus "proving" they didn't. Molly seems to be looking for ways to make her WP experience as disagreeable as possible. She wants it to fall short of Android, so she focuses on all the ways its not Android. She's clearly lost some credibility in my eyes.
